Coverage of the antifa goes mainstream?!? Peter Beinart takes a risk by stepping out of the mold and discussing the merits of totalitarian anarchists punching anyone who matches their current definition of Hitler. Shouldn't be a tough question but for progressives it has become one.
And yes, 'totalitarian anarchists' because I think these people know just where their preferred process will take us and it won't be anarchy.

Momto2 - Terrible news about your injuries and the accident. But glad to read your good humor still shines through.
Please don't let the orthopedic boys make a premature decision re cervical spine surgery.
Remember, "surgeons gotta surge" . . . so that is always their first inclination.
Let the initial inflammation and bruising start to heal before they decide you *must* have surgery. They can immobilize your cervical spine if necessary until they can properly determine that surgery is indeed required.
In the meantime, prayers to you and your family, and best wishes for a complete recovery, soon.

Posted at the end of the last thread.
OL,
Although I had great respect for Attorney General Sessions when he was a Senator, I wasn't intending to be kind in my comments. In my view, the opposition to President Trump took specific aim at Sessions, a sitting Senator of long standing, to effectively neuter him during the confirmation process.
They knew their target and what he would do if attacked. Sessions responded as anticipated, and took himself out of the picture. He basically removed the Attorney General's Office from action, and turned over the most serious threat to the President to someone else. (I won't go into the merits of Rosenstein here because he's not my target.)
If you are the opposition and are looking down the road to implement your agenda, as they left always is, and you are faced with a crushing defeat at polls across the nation, where would you turn next? Ferguson and Baltimore did not produce the war they were looking for, nor did the murder of police officers across the country.
We've had Berkeley, and the police stood down. Charlottesville and Durham are just the beginning of the next onslaught. In the meanwhile, we have no effective Attorney General. If Sessions doesn't retire honorably with his dignity still in tact, you know what I believe the President should do next.

'totalitarian anarchists' because I think these people know just where their preferred process will take us and it won't be anarchy.
Totalitarian anarchists isn't bad, but I still prefer the name 'anarcho fascists' . . .
mostly because I think they deserve to have the term 'fascists' hung around their necks forever.
For using the name "Anti-fa" to claim that conservatives are fascists, and that they are somehow warriors in a just cause, fighting fascism.

Well, that is a bold claim that melts when you try to pick it up and look at it.
What is the measure of "legitimacy" other than the authors sense of this and that? How "legitimate" was Obama after he lost the House in 2010? Yet where was the antifa?
How "legitimate" was Bush after he lost the House in 2006? Big antifa then?
If Beinart wants to write "the antifa is surging because so many on the left are in quiet support", well, fine, let him.
Posted by: Tom Maguire | August 15, 2017 at 02:34 PM
yes coldt. smarter way to fight them. now the entire MSM has to report how "evil" Trump is, and show the ad in doing so. Dummies can't help themselves.

Was it a hack or a leak? (3)
Power Line by Scott Johnson /
(Scott Johnson)
Salon has a good column summarizing the argument presented by Patrick Lawrence in the Nation asserting that the alleged Russian hack of the DNC email was rather an inside job. It nicely complements our previous installments in this series. Author Danielle Ryan quotes the official DNC response to Lawrence’s Nation article provided to the Nation after publication and now appended to the article:
"U.S. intelligence agencies have concluded the Russian government hacked the DNC in an attempt to interfere in the election. Any suggestion otherwise is false and is just another conspiracy theory like those pushed by Trump and his administration. It’s unfortunate that The Nation has decided to join the conspiracy theorists to push this narrative."
Ryan rightly comments that the statement “is so lackluster it is almost laughable[.]” Students of logical fallacy may recognize both the argument from authority and the ad hominem in the three-sentence DNC statement. That is pathetic.

Big dynamic no one wants to talk about because they don't want to comprehend or imagine the outcome: An Armed America civilian population. I know its a "last resort" outcome and one of those so-called "Black Swan" events but it is not an impossible consideration of where all this is headed.
I am not predicting a full scale uprising but we have already seen police officers assasinated by lone snipers and just walk-up bangers. That's the left, the BLM and for the blackbloc they so far prefer bike locks. But it is there as a potential when one of these comes to a place not warm toward the left or antifa. I see it escalating pretty quickly if the police, whether blue or red, don't take these clashes seriously.

Before we became fat, dumb and happy in this country, citizens and their neighbors had to fend for themselves because help from the government might be several counties and several weeks away. If we see our police not just not helping, but rather steering others into harm's way, then how long will it be before the rules of the wild west return? Will it be before or after the muddled mass in the middle watches all of the symbols of our past ground into dust by a gang of outlaws, or will something deep in our DNA wake up in time to demand action and if failing, take action themselves?

Lets stop calling these commie thugs counterprotesters.
They actually manage to be worse than Nazis. The Nazis tromp down the street in their black shorts, mostly saying hooray for our
siderace and if left to their own devices would raise their skinny little white arms in salute and wander off to the nearest Der Weinerschitzel for a post-op debrief. That's a protest, as preposterous at it is.Showing up by the busload with 2x4s and masks and intent to commit mayhem and gross bodily injury is not a counter-protest. It's a mobile riot looking for a venue.
The truly noxious thing is after they start a riot, they and their media pals inevitably try to create the meme that some beatific Millenial Ghandis were linked arm in arm, singing Bless the Beasts and the Children when they were set upon out of the blue by the Waffen SS.
Also inevitably it turns out the commie creeps started the violence and then pointed the finger.
Imagine being so loathsome you make the KKK and Nazis look like the second worst people in any gathering.

Actually, Marlene, what is needed is to see every single person damaging private or public property being sent to jail and forced to pay for the damage they caused. If appropriate, their parents should pay. It is unthinkable that most of this destruction is done in public on camera and without any repercussions whatsoever.
And as James has stated often, any policeman who takes no action while watching it happen should be brought up on charges himself and certainly fired.

Once it becomes clear that the bad guys are never held to the law, and that the police are enabling the bad guys, and that the police are not protecting the good guys, and in fact that most of the elected political class has a blind eye to it...then the entire fabric of our society which is based on the rule of law will without a doubt crumble. Then the wolves will eat the sheep and only the strong will survive it all. From the beginning of time it has always been thus. Anybody who thinks those days are in our past has read no history, much less the Bible.

I don't recall any Lee stuff in public hands; Lee Highway is in Arlington. His childhood home is a tourist attraction.

The full presser was on Fox Business. Did you know Trump has a home in Charlottesville?

He owns a Vineyard near Charlottesville.
Presser heats up at about 10:00 mark. He was asked why he made more than one statement.

When asked about a claim that the "alt-right" is pushing attacks against McMasters, Trump says, "Who said that? You mean Senator McCain? The one who voted against Obamacare?"
Poor McRINO.

AP reports ... "A North Carolina sheriff says he has identified some of the people who toppled a nearly century-old Confederate statue, and he plans to charge them with felonies."

Igantz - I wasn't there, and "heat of the moment" makes it wrong to judge, but the driver had no trouble backing out in a damn hurry. Why not do that first? I don't know the answer, but he may be having to answer that, if claims he was placed in fear.

Marlene: The people in the country aren't going to tolerate their history being vandalized, torn down,or smashed to bits.
Of course they will. Forty-two states have already approved the National Council for the Social Studies program that, instead of teaching history, teaches our little darlings to BE historians. Swell. They can write history but never read it.
That is not to mention the stripping of economics and political theory, replacing it with how to be an activist.
That’s what civic responsibility is today.

I suppose one's first instinct would be to accelerate, rather than to brake, go into reverse, and then hit the gas pedal, which would not be the quickest way to get away from trouble. Agreed, hard to judge without knowing more, which of course doesn't prevent the media from doing just that.

What you won't find out about from CNN
Saw that story the other day, CH, looked like a "neighborhood dispute," not necessarily political. But of course, reverse the roles, or make the shooter white and the victim black, and ... you know the rest.

For Stephanie @ 2:09 - I shared this on the earlier thread:
US-Taliban on the move:
(GA's) Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams called for the removal of the giant carving that depicts three Confederate war leaders on the face of state-owned Stone Mountain, saying it “remains a blight on our state and should be removed.”
Printable words fail in the face of such ignorance. What does this person know of *our* history and especially the famous monument at Stone Mountain?
Gutzon Borglum was hired in 1915 as the carving consultant, and in 1916 he was appointed carving sculptor by the Stone Mountain Monumental Association. ... Borglum went on to carve the famous Mount Rushmore sculpture in South Dakota.
My inner Seymour Hersh language demon wants to comment appropriately to this runaway stupidity.

I don't know whether he did it intentionally or not either, cboldt.
However, he kind of had to back out since it seems he rear ended a car, which as I pointed out awhile back isn't exactly the path a guy hoping to hit as many people as possible would take.
If the path looked clearer forward he goes forward until it closes off and he backs up when he can't go forward any further? If you're panicking you just kinda hit the accelerator I would guess.
OTOH maybe he's an evil nut who mowed down as many as he could.
If he was not the latter, not sure he's got much of a chance at trial of proving it, and in this kind of case, let's be honest the burden of proof is largely on him.
