The flailing NY Times saves space on the front page for this:
How a Conservative TV Giant Is Ridding Itself of Regulation
By Cecilia Kang, Eric Lipton and Sydney Ember Aug 14, 2017
Brace for the brreakthrough reporting!
WASHINGTON — The day before President Trump’s inauguration, the top executive of the Sinclair Broadcast Group, the nation’s largest owner of television stations, invited an important guest to the headquarters of the company’s Washington-area ABC affiliate.
The trip was, in the parlance of the business world, a deal closer.
The invitation from David D. Smith, the chairman of Sinclair, went to Ajit V. Pai, a commissioner on the Federal Communications Commission who was about to be named the broadcast industry’s chief regulator. Mr. Smith wanted Mr. Pai to ease up on efforts under President Barack Obama to crack down on media consolidation, which were threatening Sinclair’s ambitions to grow even bigger.
Mr. Smith did not have to wait long.
Within days of their meeting, Mr. Pai was named chairman of the F.C.C. And during his first 10 days on the job, he relaxed a restriction on television stations’ sharing of advertising revenue and other resources — the exact topic that Mr. Pai discussed with Mr. Smith and one of his business partners, according to records examined by The New York Times.
OMG! They have so many smoking guns it looks like a Civil War re-enactment.
Or not. Dead Tree readers who follow the story off into the heart of the paper reach a few disclaimers, the gist of which is, a President favoring de-regulation is leading an Administration that favors de-regulation backed by a Congress that... well, here we go:
An examination of the F.C.C. records shows that the Smith-Pai alliance does not follow the familiar script of a lobbyist with deep pockets influencing policy. Instead, it is a case of a powerful regulator and an industry giant sharing a political ideology, and suddenly, with the election of Mr. Trump, having free rein to pursue it — with both Mr. Smith, 66, and Mr. Pai, 44, reaping rewards.
Neither Mr. Pai nor Mr. Smith would comment for this article.
Associates say both men believe that local television stations, which fall under the commission’s rules because they broadcast over federally owned airwaves, are at a disadvantage when competing against cable companies and online streaming services like Comcast and Netflix.
Tina Pelkey, spokeswoman for Mr. Pai, said the new chairman had not taken steps to help Sinclair specifically; his concerns relate to the broadcast industry generally.
“It has nothing to do with any one company,” Ms. Pelkey said.
Other broadcast companies, as well as the National Association of Broadcasters, have pushed for some of the same changes that have benefited Sinclair.
Oh, so close! But keep digging, Timesman (and Timeschicks!). You all look so cute when you go all Woodward and Bernstein.
I beseech you almighty God, give us the day that we can write "the failed, defunct, pining for the fjords New York Times".

[Overheard at a recent New York Times editorial board meeting]
"What leads today? Not Russia, again?"
"No, we have something that will tingle the nerves of everyone except one guy on the UWS."
"You tracked down the Paki, Imran Awan, and he had UBL's email address?"
"No, its better than that."
"Oh, you've been able to track that kid Ellison directly to Bannon?"
"Not that either, better."
"We need a stinger today, something that will send shock waves through Manhattan and Charlottesville."
"We have Ajit Pai agreeing with all the other broadcasters to allow Sinclair to claim more stations and release Bill O'Reilly back on to a unknowing public."
"My God. Why didn't you say so in the first place. Shit. I'm calling Pinch, right now. Page One, above the fold Triple the font. Ask graphics if they still have that Nazi flag with Rush Limbaughs photo on it."
"This is what we live for, folks, and ask our subscribers to believe in. Good work, Everyone."

Regarding tectonic plates and continental drift:
When I was a kid, specifically in 5th grade, I wondered why the coastlines of North America and South America seemed to line up with the coastlines of Africa and Europe. I even asked this question in class and was told it was just a coincidence.
When I majored in geology, many years later, they had discovered tectonic plates and established that continental drift was real. I was overjoyed to know that what I had noticed was correct.
For those unfamiliar with the concept, the continents rest on plates. There are also plates without continents. The seafloor and adjacent areas operate like conveyor belts. In the Atlantic, for example, the crust rises at the center and moves to either side and then plunges under the edge of the continental shelf. Those areas where it plunges are called subduction zones. In the Pacific, there is a huge one on the edge of the West Coast.
Subduction zones are prevalent to earthquakes and in some cases, volcanos, because of the friction as the crust dives under the surface.
Anyway, am glad to see the tectonic plates in the news again. Prior to the 1960's, anyone proposing this theory was mocked because "the science was settled." Now we see it wasn't.

The funny thing about this episode is the mainstream left doesn't realize how revealing it is...again.
The fact is, despite their hysterical denials they are communist sympathizers.
They are irate with Trump because they really do think Nazis are exponentially worse than communists.
That's because they know in their hearts, their ideology has the same roots.
Communists speak the same anti capital, pro collectivism the libs do because the libs are just a milder version of them and they may decry communists excesses but they sympathize with their goals.
If they didn't they would equate Nazis and communists as any sane person does.
They don't because deep down they don't think they're all that bad; they're just a little enthusiastic and who can really get upset by a few broken eggs by enthusiasts just trying to build the utopian omelet?

For a change of pace, here's an exciting and fun story from 'down under' that we can all enjoy, tho' some of us may enjoy it more than others:)
You'll recall that 2 Aussie Senators from the Green Party had to recently resign their Seats in Parliament when they discovered that they were dual citizens of New Zealand. It is against the Law to be a citizen of any other country and be an Aussie politician---something having to do with dual allegiance.
Well it has just been discovered that the number 2 guy in power in Australia, Barnaby Joyce, who is Aussie Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's top deputy, is a Kiwi himself, and thus he's ineligible to be deputy! Australian prime minister Malcolm Turnbull faces uncertain future after deputy discovers New Zealand citizenship
Barnaby Joyce is a New Zealand citizen and may be dismissed from parliament.
Mr Joyce, best known internationally for his threat to kill the pet dogs of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, became the latest victim of the nation’s dual citizenship crisis after revealing he may be a New Zealander via his father,
This means that Mr Joyce could be ineligible to be an MP under section 44 of Australia’s constitution which disqualifies candidates if they are a citizen of a foreign country.
The development could cost Mr Turnbull his one-seat majority in the House of Representatives and require him to depend on the support of independent MPs
In other papers it appears this is causing hilarity.
![](https://theaimn.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Barnaby-Joyce-e1455409227782.jpg)
Since Aussies generally believe that Kiwi's are individuals known to have unnatural relations with sheep, hi-jinks ensue: Sheep jokes, Barnaby as the 'beached as, bro' whale and plenty of Kiwi fruit: Social media mocks Deputy PM Joyce after he reveals he's a New Zealander and may have to quit parliament
Oh if only Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan discovered they were Kiwis:(

This is the statement from Living Cities that was created by the Rock and Ford F's but is now funded by virtually all the major banks.
Think of the stand down to police in light of this being seen as an excuse for revolution that was already being sought by fiat.
"This past Saturday, white nationalist groups converged on Charlottesville, Virginia at a rally that ended with the death of a counter-protester at the hands of a white supremacist from Ohio. Watching this unfold, I felt like I could have been in Germany in 1938 or Mississippi in 1960.
Saturday was a horrific and undeniable reminder how close hate is to the surface of American life and how important it is to speak out about it when you see it.
Race in America is a complex thing. We are a country undeniably founded on the genocide of one people and the enslavement of another. Throughout our history, systems were designed that isolate and separate us, and that empower a select few—based on the invention of race. These systems made it so misunderstanding, fear, and ultimately hate, are in our groundwater.
We have yet to eradicate that legacy from our society. The result? Not only senseless deaths like those in Charlottesville but extreme disparities across all major indicators of success and well-being between white people and Americans of color.
This latest horror in our nation’s tarnished history on race must be matched with both words and action. Inaction or equivocation in the face of white supremacy is reckless, and we must commit as individuals, as members and leaders of institutions, and as Americans to ending it now. As an institution, Living Cities is deeply committed to doing that. We’re convinced of the need for affirmative approaches to tackle these issues directly; to living a different set of values, rooted in a vision of racial justice and equity.

Leaders in government and other sectors must not equivocate on this point: the American Dream belongs to us all, and it’s worth fighting for. As long as white supremacy persists in all its forms, whether overt or covert, institutional or systemic, that dream will remain out of reach."

That piece that was so hard to download Resilient Boston laid out the plans for this shift back in July and now this tragedy is being used to force its implementation.
As I explained here yesterday http://invisibleserfscollar.com/shocks-stresses-and-yokeability-resilience-as-the-balm-masking-total-control/ this is all a different kind of communism that is more consistent with Marx's actual theorizing than anything Mao or Lenin tried or even knew about. That work was translated late per Daniel Bell and was something the behavioral scientists in the US were drawn to starting in the 50s.
Now we are about to get a full assault, which the media is trying to justify as a necessary transformation.

Feels good to be home after seven months, but the White House is very special, there is no place like it... and the U.S. is really my home!

Renna @RennaW
Last week: statues are everything and should dictate US immigration law.
This week: f*** statues

Good link rse, thanks again.

It all depends on whose statute is being gored.

In a diner in Riverhead. Just dropped of Frederick for second of football practice. To say he is sore is an understatement. Tomorrow they pad up. If he thinks he's sore now, wait!
Reading the web this AM it's obvious the "resistance" feels they are on a roll and that this time Trump can't come back. It's a full frontal assault. If I'm Trump I get a dog. We all know what Truman said.

If you have to argue with one of these idiots (including weak-kneed GOP people) here is a compilation of Trump disavowing David Duke and the KKK repeatedly, since 1991 and numerous times during the primaries.
Any reporter pushing the idea he did not do so is lying. Period. They are pushing an agenda.

It's prudent to presume a reporter is lying, period. The presumption is of course rebuttable.

Back from my travels, saw this at Althouse, a positive contrast to recent events:

21 years is a long time.

If you go to jimmyk's link to Althouse you'll notice on the sidebar Amazon ads for books on the Klan. There is a kernel of evil in these algorithms.

Jack,
Thanks for the information. I have an ad blocker on so don't notice stuff like that.

This is how the press is. As I said, they KNOW he isn't racist. They KNOW he got an award from Jesse Jackson for outreach to the Black Community. They KNOW he disavowed David Duke and the KKK repeatedly. They KNOW he stood up for Mike Tyson when everyone abandoned him. They KNOW he was a friend of Michael Jackson.
They are maliciously promoting a false story in order to delegitimize his presidency. Most shamefully, GOP elitists are running with the story.
The press has become a full-fledged lynch mob.
