Let's have the traditional Friday afternoon "WTF is it now and why is the icemaker on the fritz?" open thread.
OK, I get that the icemaker crash doesn't hit hard with the beer and wine crowd but please take a moment (or a drink) to empathize with the rest of us.
OMG, how will you survive? That's awful TM (and I'm serious). Now I'll go check mine.

TM, please pass the Grey Poupon. Your terrible state of affairs is exactly why I have two ice makers in each house. Now I do confess I feel bad when I have to send Mrs. OL to the first floor bar to get ice for my G&Ts when cocktails are on the second floor deck and the upstairs bar's icemaker is acting up. So I feel your pain...or should I say my wife feels your pain.
Ducking.

According to something I saw (on CNN of all places) the Obama administration approved more flights on military aircraft by cabinet members than Trump has: 94 vs 77 over the same time period.
Not defending Price, just pointing to the double standard.
Posted by: jimmyk | September 29, 2017 at 03:45 PM
Maryrose, Price put Trump in a tight spot. Too much DC water I guess.
Posted by: Old Lurker | September 29, 2017 at 03:46 PM
At yesterday's President's Cup opening, Obama stood with his hand over his heart when the anthem was played, along with W and Billy Jeff and all of the American players, captains, caddies, etc.
Interesting. He seems to be going out of his way to avoid doing anything overtly political these days, at least in public.
He didn't use to do it, Boatbuilder. It makes me laugh knowing that Trump making this an issue forced Obama to have to cover his heart and pretend to be respectful:)
Posted by: daddy | September 29, 2017 at 03:48 PM
A possible response by Trump to l'affaire Price would be to shake up the staff that approve all those flights, rather than fire Price. That has more a 'drain the swamp' feel to it.

There are these old fashioned little trays that you can fill with water and put in your freezer and voila, you have ice!
I have never had an ice maker on my refrigerator.
Posted by: maryrose | September 29, 2017 at 04:00 PM
Oh Maryrose...you don't get it. The icemakers in the refrigerators are the machines of last resort if the bar icemakers are not working. It is a serious emergency if my G&T arrives with refrigerator ice in it! I mean, those cubes are foggy and shaped funny and the real one's are carefully calibrated to slip into my mouth just so...
I hate change.
What's an "icetray" thingy you mention?

Posted by: maryrose | September 29, 2017 at 04:11 PM
When I visit Belgium at my FIL's house they never have ice (it is not a Euro thing) but they do have a tray that is never used. I have to fill it first thing and then find a place in the 2 freezers to put it. That is not as easy as you think since they are filled with all kinds of food.
The only liquor is gin, cognac, scotch and boubons as well as vermouth, lillet, campari etc. So, if I want a vodka tonic I need to bring a bottle I bought at Duty Free knowing it won't be there. But there is tonic as my late MIL loved her pink gins and tonics. With a bowl of crisps (chips) and some Strauss playing she would imbide in the fumar while doing needle work.
Over 18 years I have learned to adapt and find ways to make it more personally enjoyable while tending to the W to E jet lag.

Senator Menendez is probably kicking himself for not pulling strings to make Comey his prosecutor. That way Comey would never be able to fathom Menendez's motivations, or whether when he took those 28 free airline trips he had full knowledge that it was illegal as all get out, so he'd walk like Hillary and Loretta Lynch.

The Sarah Hoyt article is excellent, lyle.
Perhaps the masquerade of the left to appear as polished, attractive characters with seemingly no personal flaws (or at least none that the media would report) began with the Kennedy candidacy in 1960. He was smart, clever, poised and somewhat handsome. He had a beautiful wife and the requisite number of children. He went to the right schools and had a charming sense of humor.
In short, he provided a template that politicians tried to emulate and it became the standard. Then came Donald J. Trump and he blew all of that out of the water. He was frank, brutal in his assessment of his competitors and he had according to the media an outlandish life style. It didn't phase the voters at all because he spoke their language. At last we had a candidate who said what we thought in a voice that we had never heard but could relate to.
And it's driving the left and the RINOs nuts. I'm sure you know people who fit in this category. The one that says, "he's not presidential," and can't understand why he succeeds. I hope this signals that the mold has been broken and that starched and pressed candidates are a thing of the past. Perhaps not. There aren't too many Donald Trumps out there unfortunately.
Posted by: Barbara | September 29, 2017 at 05:01 PM

Good evening all.
Feeling better. I stretched out on the bed and promptly conked out. Daughter is bringing home burgers for supper. I should have gone to the grocery today but was just too tired, so that will have to wait until tomorrow morning.
What I was doing is that my friiend who helped me last year, and her sister, were trying to sort out and get rid of things in their father's garage, as he has remarried and is living in the lady's house. (He is 91 so quite the guy. HA!)
Anyway, the sister sold her house in Rushvile so she is going to live in the house for a while since she and her sister actually own it (signed over to them a few years ago for estate purposes).
So we were dealing with his stuff and her stuff which the movers had put in the garage. Couple that with my friend having had 2 hip replacements and the sister having a bad back and wearing a back brace, you can see why I was needed and also why I am tired!!

Great point, Stephanie.
I wonder if Trump had Menendez's fraud in mind when he pulled the trigger on Price? I sure wouldn't put it past him. It brings the topic of fraudulent use of airplanes front and center doesn't it, and just in time for the weekend gab shows if anyone cares to make points on the subject. Makes it a bit tough I'd think for the Talking Heads to be damning Price on the one hand while excusing Menendez on the other for far worse behavior.

lyle,
That Nixon/Mark Felt movie is a guaranteed box office bomb. It's nothing but a vehicle for Liam Neeson to go around pontificating about "abuse of power" and "coverup" to the media.
No one will be interested in it at all, except for a few old liberals. Nixon's impeachment hearings were in 1974. That was 43 years ago. hat means anyone under 40 has zero memory of that era. I just looked it up on a Nielsen site and over 60% of movie goers are under 55.
It will be at a few art houses.
More interesting to me is how they will make a bitter bureaucrat into a glamorous hero, which they will.
