The Nation recently ran an article noting some technical reason to suspect that one of the the alleged DNC "hacks" was really an inside leak. A key point - the apparent transfer speed of the hacked files exceeded the capabilities of a conventional internet connection but were well with the range of a normal USB drive.
Now The Nation has appended an Editor's Note which includes, among other resources, a report from an outside software expert. Here is a snippet on the transfer speed question:
Many Ways to 23 Megabytes per Second: Let us consider the “remote hacker” in this situation. The adversary in a remote intrusion can be physically located nearly anywhere in the world. They can be multiple people working in coordination, in control of a vast amount of physically diverse computing resources through vast networks of compromised machines (also known as “botnets”). They can also utilize a wide variety of network communication tunnels, proxies, and virtual private networks to mask their traffic and true network address. If this remote adversary was attempting to directly copy data from the compromised target server to their actual physical location, a very difficult-to-achieve high sustained throughput would be required to match the time-stamp metadata in the files.
But if the remote adversary was directly downloading the files from the target server to a temporary cloud server or otherwise compromised third-party server within close network proximity, that throughput speed would be possible to achieve. The cloud server could have been provided by a system like Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS), which provide computing resources in the Eastern United States. Creating disposable server instances on cloud services like AWS is easy, cheap, and achievable with relative anonymity. The adversary’s remote-control connection to the cloud could have been slowed by multiple hops through tunnels and VPNs, but the connection between the cloud server itself and the target server need not be.
Or, maybe we should smell a RAT:
Another scenario that would more precisely match the 23-megabytes-per-second transfer rate is that of an end-user workstation on the local area network being compromised by a remote-access Trojan (RAT). This scenario has also been called “the local pivot.” The compromise would occur through an e-mail-phishing or document-attachment malware attack on a staff member operating the workstation. These attacks are extremely common and easy to execute. RATs provide full “remote control” over an infected target system. Data exfiltration via phished malware is something that has been happening for at least a decade, as proven by the 2009 GhostNet attack against the Tibetan government in exile and others.
If the attack is successful, the RAT would run on the internal workstation, which was likely running Windows 7, with a primary disk formatted as NTFS and another local storage disk formatted in FAT32. The specifics of the file-system formats matter when it comes to matching the format of time stamps analyzed by the Forensicator. This machine would have been connected to the local area network and would have had access to a file-sharing server (likely “Samba” or Windows SMB-based) from which the documents were copied. The RAT would utilize the authenticated user it compromised to invisibly access the files over the local area network, copy them in bulk to the local machine at 23 megabytes per second, and package them into an archive for remote transfer. The metadata matching the Forensicator’s analysis would have been fully generated at this point. The final copy to the remote adversary’s source machine could happen at any speed.
OK, so the VIPS report is inconclusive and unimaginative. However, the central question - why is the FBI relying on the analysts hired by the DNC to back the DNC claim that they were victims of outsiders, not disgruntled insiders - remains unanswered.

TM, a lot depends on the bandwidth available at each end. At work, I have fiber bundles to allow many simultaneous downloads of program fixes to our customers, Our cloud service is on an external server. We transfer massive updates back and forth. The internal lan is the slow part. I doubt the DNC is set up that way, but without details, it is all bs anyway. Occam's Razor always favors internal penetration. That should be assumed without hard proof of other.

why hos [the internet seems somewhat divided on the proper plural form of ho] a plenty means guys don't get married.
Seems to me the direction of causality could be reversed: Men don't get married as much, so there's more need for alternatives. (Demand vs Supply)
As to why men don't get married as much (which of course implies that women don't get married as much), I would attribute to women's increased earning power, making traditional marriage less of an economic necessity.

Helicopters have been flying over all day doing water drops and checking for hot spots. There was a huge wall of dark grey smoke that moved from West to East as the fire jumped the freeway again to burn back into the canyons. It's dissipated now.
A tropical storm - Lydia, I think - has moved in and is now dropping a light rain in our area. There was even hail in the Santa Clarita Valley earlier today. Very weird with the temperatures in the high 90's.
The fire is about 15 percent contained, and as anyone knows who's experienced a fire in Southern California, it ain't over 'til it's over. There's a lot of work yet to do. People are being allowed back into their homes in some areas, so that's a good sign.

The decision not to indict Hillary Clinton was not made by then-FBI Director Comey. It was made by President Obama and his Justice Department – Comey’s superiors. If you want to say Comey went along for the ride rather than bucking the tide (as he concedes doing when Lynch directed him to call the Clinton probe a “matter,” not an “investigation”), that’s fair.
Thank goodness it's fair to think that---I wouldn't want to go out too far on a limb here.
So if I understand the Andy McCarthy column, James Comey is an automaton following the direction of the President if the President's name is Obama, but if the President's name is Trump Comey is instantly not an automaton but is completely capable of independent thought and action and started taking secret notes the instant the President named Trump said "hello," because saying "hello" might be criminal but ordering the exoneration of Hillary wasn't. OK. Got it. I also want to know if the President was the guy who told Comey he would be "nauseous" if he didn't give Hillary a pass or if Comey came up with that "nauseous" feeling all by himself. You never know abut the automatons.
And finally, if it's fair to ask, which Comey is the Comey with all that personal and professional integrity that Andy and all the legal talking heads have all that respect for?---The Obama Comey or the Trump Comey? Or both? It's fair to ask that, right Andy? Personally I hope McCarthy is on the NRO cruise this very instant and being keelhauled by Jane and Caro.

I remember reading some years back about a cyber break-in.
The FBI had noticed an attack, of which the target was oblivious. IIRC the attacker was China. The intended target was a big US firm. However, the actual target was the company's law firm (!) because they were much easier to penetrate. And, as mentioned, the law firm was SO un-techy that they didn't even know they had been compromised.
The fascinating point to the story is that after the FBI got them clean and back up and running the law firm chose NOT to disclose what had happened to their client. It would have poisoned the business relationship or something! So the big firm went ahead doing business in China, knowing nothing.
This resonates with the DNC/Wikileaks story. After the FBI inexplicably chose NOT to examine the server, after the in-house investigation, after so much time has passed ... one thing is clear. Just as in the law firm cyber break in, there is a set of major players who are determined that the facts of the case will NOT see the light of day. Despite what most citizens would regard as simple fairness, ethical due diligence and the public good.

Tony Schaefer was on Fox and brought up what I have suspected, that Iran is in cahoots with North Korea. He brought up the large amount of cash and the rapid progress the Norks seem to have suddenly made.
I got to thinking all the way back to the late 70's, when the odious Jimmy Carter, who is still not dead, stabbed the Shah in the back and started us down the road of Islamic terrorism.
So Carter is the first part of this. Then Bill Clinton and Madeline Albright, giving nuclear stuff to the Norks and missile technology to the Chinese.
And then finally, Obama, who ignored the Norks and gave all that money to Iran.
A tragedy in 3 acts, all perpetrated by democrats whose foreign policy was one of propping up dictators, undermining national security, and getting as much loot as possible. As far as I am concerned all 3 should be in prison.

Jim,
When I read about Awan and his secret E-Mail account still open at Rep Carson's Congressional Office, it makes me think the smartest place for hackers to hack directly into is Congress---they seem even stupider than the Lawyers in the Law Firm you mention.
From The Daily Caller last week:
A spokeswoman for Carson, Jessica Gail, did not express concern or surprise when contacted by TheDCNF about Awan’s still-active email address Monday morning. Bennett said Tuesday morning Gail had not even informed him of the details.
Bennett, who is Carson’s deputy chief of staff, told TheDCNF he has no control over the 123 address. “However this happened, it was not with my consent or control,” he said in an email. “For the record, I do not, nor have I ever, had control of the 123@mail.house.gov email account or any other account connected with Imran Awan or his family.”
Apparently nobody in Congress knows about cyber-security and nobody in Congress cares about cyber-security. Femall.

It's fair to say that Roger Simon places blame a bit different than does Andy McCarthy:
Time for a Full Investigation... of the FBI

I agree with you on Pres Trump's motives.
Also that guy bought The Nation theory of "insider leak" not "hack". As TM demonstrates in his post that's debatable! For me, the interesting part is that the article argues Trump is gradually clobbering Deep State. The Russia conspiracy, prominent Dem leaders, even the enemedia are starting to crack. (In his opinion).
Some truth there, but I'll feel better when/if the RINO wing of the UniParty shows signs of collapse.

The NeverTrumpers are less acute. They are pretty much astroturf. A few loud leaders, no popular base. Once the MSM no longer needs quotes to gin up fake outrage the NTers will fade quickly to oblivion.

A quick shout out to my NorCal compadre Kev. Hope you continue to heal. Same to Momto2 and all other afflicted JOMers.

Apparently George Clooney's new movie (directed, he's not on screen) is an anti-Trump movie promoting the idea that white suburbs are hotbeds of racism.
What a coincidence that it debuts right after Charlottesville. Almost like it was planned.

Signing up for that verrit account will no doubt give them a bunch of data. With the Clintons, nothing is above board.
Meanwhile, in a repeat of the Obamacare web site, verrit was immediately his with a DOS attack and went off line for a while. Dhou tweeted that it is now back up.

CNN had this remarkable piece of BS yesterday but I avoid linking to them.
I don't think Obama wrote it. I think Ben Rhodes penned it. I also think that they leaked it, probably to try to prove that they had nothing to do with Antifa because Obama was all conciliatory and stuff.

But he thinks The Donald is in it for power
Yeah. Right. That’s why Trump fixed the Central Park Ice Rink. Power? No.
He can’t stand broken communities in the hands of incompetents. Neither can I.
Got a problem with that?
MAGA!

Yet unwed motherhood is still the shortest route to poverty for women and children, no matter how much women's earning power has increased.
And unwed mothers require government programs to replace all the things fathers would provide; just as those in poverty require government programs to make ends meet.
EVERY progressive position and policy is explicitly designed to destroy traditional family and social structures, thus requiring government to step in and do for people what they could previously do for themselves. EVERY ONE.

daddy: [Which Comey is the real Comey?]
Excellent tweet material.
The Comey that was just following orders?
The Comey that illegally presumed to make DOJ judgements about prosecuting Hillary?
The Comey that was fast and loose with immunity?
The Comey that lied to Congres?
The Comey that illegally leaked?
The Comey that didn’t let the FBI investigate?
The Comey that ruined the FBI reputation for integrity?

Local radio reminds me that 53 years ago today the Beatles played at the Indiana State Fair.
My sister and her girlfriend went. They were complete fans. I liked them, too, but I didn't want to spend the money on a ticket, as I was saving for college.

James D. has it exactly right at 07:53.
Here's an example of creating disaster.
https://www.weaselzippers.us/355701-the-s-word-how-young-americans-fell-in-love-with-socialism/
This young woman thinks that killing babies is good. How could a youngster grow up thinking killing innocents is good? How could a youngster come to the realization that she wants to live under socialism? IMO, this is insane.

Words to never forget/ Teach your children:
James "EVERY progressive position and policy is explicitly designed to destroy traditional family and social structures, thus requiring government to step in and do for people what they could previously do for themselves. EVERY ONE."
PS. Because in their secret minds, every Progressive assumes he will be in charge of the Government which will then control everybody.

Meanwhile, we're spending millions to have a bunch of (taking money under false pretenses)lawyers claiming to be trying to figure out how to charge Trump for what the leftists are doing. This is insane!
