HOUSTON — This city sprawls over 600 square miles, an area so big that Chicago, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Detroit could all fit within it simultaneously.

Makes the concept of "overpopulation" seem pretty far fetched.

If Wikipedia and my math are correct. Houston area has 6.8 million people.

I wonder if the moderate baby killers know that there is this much room for Houston's population to grow?

jimmyk,

That's the only time they read the Bible. Whenever there is an issue they go to a Concordance and look up every reference, so as to find something to club their opponents with.

There's pretty selective about when they quote Scripture, however. I notice they ignore the passages calling homosexuality a sin or pointing out how precious the life of a child is.

Think I've mentioned this here before but I remember reading awhile back that the entire population of the world could fit into the state of Texas.

It is big! :-)

Janet the expert 🚬

I'm no fan of Osteen, but I could not stand the bashing.
I dropped people on FB because of it.

Who was gonna take care of the people that came in? Were members of the church taking care of their own families?
Any chance there would be suing if something happened to people coming in?

It is ridiculous to pick out one organization & bash them.
Did Target stores open up & let people camp there?
Did Nordstrom at Houston Galleria open up to let people stay there?

jimmyk

glasater, if I have the numbers right, putting the entire world population into Texas would result in a density of 27,000 people per square mile. The density of Manhattan is about 67,000 per square mile.

So it works, but you might not like all of your neighbors. :)

Yes, Janet; he seems like a target the MFM would love to gin up some hate about.

How about organizations of the left?
Were they open, taking in people & letting them sleep & stay over there?
Abortion clinics, all University buildings, all government buildings (libraries, auditoriums, etc.)?

How about any art museums? Did they open their doors & house & feed & treat hurricane victims?

There is a Sierra Club chapter in Houston - http://www.sierraclub.org/texas/houston

Did they open their doors? The Sierra Club has bajillions of dollars.

GUS

Janet, it's not by accident. The Full Commie is organized. Religion and virtue, decency and moral values. All are targeted and under assault. I've seen several JOM'ers make statements in DEFENSE of Joel Osteen and his Church. Mr Osteen has nothing to DEFEND, he was targeted because he is HIGH PROFILE, and because the VALUES he PORTRAYS, is OPPOSITE of FULL COMMIE VALUES. I don't know Joel Osteen, but his CONGREGATION follow Ostee, Jesus Christ, and Tradional Values.

Has THE FULL COMMIE attacked GEORGE SOROS yet?

Miss Marple the Deplorable

I remain convinced the only reason they went after Osteen was that they couldn't find anything substantial to criticize Trmp over (hence Melania's shoes and the empathy discussion) so they went after the biggest non-leftist target in Houston.

They couldn't go after the black democrat mayor. They couldn't attack Abbott, who was doing a great job and on TV almost 24-7. No way were they going after athletes os stadiums.

Hence, Joel Osteen. Their thinking was "Trump supporters are Christians so Osteen is worth attacking."

The NORK's are the asian phony Texan, "all hat no cattle", when it comes to EMP. I don't believe they have minituarized their H-bomb tech to fit an ICBM warhead either, regardless of the level of Persian technology.

That is why I wonder if we aren't planning a targeted EMP attack using our own real technology via cruise missles and other surgical delivery systems. We have cloaking technologies deployed in a lot of our priority installations but not the grid. But then the retaliation centers are all cloaked so its a stupid move on his part.

The food was very good, but a bit pricey because the portions are huge. Otherwise, pretty decent place. My only objection was that it was way cold in there, so when I finished I went outside to wait while Nate paid, something I wouldn't usually do.

Jim Eagle

MM,

-peter and I living on Long Island are probably world recognized experts on diners. Also the folks in Jersey, Connecticut and Rhode Island. But for some reason we seem to have one in every hamlet and town.

You will know it is a good diner if the menu is more than twenty pages and weighs 5#'s. Also, if it has blintzes for breakfast and hash. Steak and eggs is a staple.

Does Metro Diner have a case at the register where you can buy whole cakes and pies? If not, tell them to get with the program:)

Old Lurker

Daddy!

Wonderful find at 4:22. That be the place!

No JiB, not Greeks. By the time I came along the twin diners were gone and had been replaced by the Art Deco style building shown toward the bottom of the pics at your link. Same family, the G'daughter of which was in my class at HS. And she was one nice lookin girl, she was. As mentioned in some of that link, that street did become the nice shopping street in the 40s & 50s with other nice deco buildings for several blocks.

The town of course is now in the tank, less than half the size it was when I was a kid.

Now here is the really small world. A few years ago one of the cable tv car channels had a show touring the collections of fat cat collectors and their over the top houses. So I'm watching, drinking an adult beverage, and one of the collections was housed on the lower level of a big CA place, and the setting was made to be a small town street front with the cars parked in front of the storefronts. I'm looking at it and say "that looks real familiar to me...it almost looks like Quarrier Street where I grew up. Then the camera moved to one store front which included the interior as well and lo and behold, it was the Blossom Dairy where I would have lunch on days I was not at the Quarrier Diner one block closer to HS.

Now that was just too weird, and the TV show did not reveal the owner, but just said he was a small town kid who hit the big time, and when his hometown was on the skids, he bought up the street he grew up on and moved it to CA.

Took only a few clicks to find the kid was Chairman/Founder of Cisco, and he sat in front of me in math classes from Jr. HS on, and our families had been friends for several generations.

Your 4:22 touched all of those buttons for me!

GUS

What I like about Jim Justice, he is trying to restore West "by God" Virginia to the great state for tourism and fun. Many a white water adventure and backpacking there. Love the state.

Plus Charles

Jim Eagle

...plus Charlestown races.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Jack,

Metro Diner isn't what I consider a real diner, even if it was featured on Guy Fiere's show. It has some of the trappings of a diner (varied and large menu) and serves a lot of diner classics (breakfast all day, burgers, fired chicken).

However, the specials today were a blackened chicken quesadilla and some sort of spiced chicken salad. The portions are too big and you can't order a la carte. No pastries or cakes in a case, and it seems that they keep it to cold in order to hasten turnover. It was very crowded and we had to wait half an hour to be seated.

There actually is a real diner about a block south and west of me on a major street. They cater to the students so have a lot of cheapo eats. Menu like you described and old stand-alone building. No cases of baked goods, though.

Captain Hate

But please, Lord, keep it east and away from the Gulf.

Old Lurker

Yes, still on island, Jack. Till mid October. I was thinking about why you get all the big dollar cars and we don't. Then I realized you can't get them on Gulfstreams and the owners ain't about to drive them to the ferry and come over on the slow boats. But it would be a hoot, since the max speed on the Island is 45 and then only on one street for a few miles.

OL,

Funny story.

Most of us here are convinced a lot of the young guys out here partying and driving exotics are rented. So to prove that thought, Frederick one day pulled up to a Ferrari on Hill St. coming into the village and asked the guy waiting at the light how much Hertz charges a day for the ride.

I only wish I could have had a magic camera on his bike to record that reaction.:)

Also some neat WW2 History as I started scrolling through the pages of that link. I was hoping you'd get a kick out of it and I'm glad you did. I want the 60 cent T-Bone steak slathered in a half dozen fried oysters for an extra 30 cents. Also thought it interesting that the link says that Diner's were traditionally off limits to women and mainly for men. I suppose that makes sense in the day, so interesting to see how the owners went out of their way to encourage women to come on it---"THE LADIES INVITED."

And great story about Mister Cisco and the hot granddaughter!

Old Lurker

One last thing. As the USAF FALCON'S FOOTBALL TEAM ran onto the field. They ALL, ran to the distant (South) end zone. Each and every one of them, knelt down and PRAYED, individually on their own. I have ZERO idea who THEIR....GOD....is......BUT APPARENTLY........THEY DO.

What a WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE.

My NIECE, is a USAF FRESHMAN CADET. I could not POSSIBLY, be MORE PROUD.

Old Lurker

Daddy, the back story on Ladies Invited, and the reason the twin diners were replaced with that two story deco building with the curtains drawn on the second floor windows, was that WV had no liquor by the drink, but private clubs could pour it a glass at a time. Quick thinkers discovered they could have a private club, charge $5 per year in dues, and have one heck of a bar business. Dad's law office was on that same street, and there were maybe four such clubs on that block. If you needed a lawyer or a judge or both, you knew where to find them.

From age 12 through HS, I worked on a parking lot Dad owned, and that view of "The Ott Building" was exactly the view from my "office" all those years.

I am sure Laura Bush is a lovely person, but she's about my size and shape and has never learned basic fashion stuff, like if you have a short neck and a full bust do NOT wear round collars, but choose v-necks.

I often thought that designers made her look dowdy on purpose. My clue was that when I occasionally saw her in jeans and a shirt, she looked much slimmer and younger.

I am not a fashion maven but my sister, who has worked in fashion retail all her life, taught me quite a bit. I am able to look presentable without spending a fortune thanks to her advice.

Those Vogue harpies think that we plebes don't remember that Melania was on the cover of their magazine when she married Trump. I happen to remember these details.
