The Dead Tree NY Times is failing at math in their coverage of the election in Norway. This gem, since corrected online, appeared in my morning paper:

Ms. Solberg, 56, and her main coalition partner, the anti-tax, anti-immigration Progress Party, will wind up with 89 seats in the unicameral, 169-seat Parliament, assuming they have the continued support of two smaller centrist parties.

Another coalition led by the center-left Labor Party won 85 seats.

Since 85 seats is a majority in a 169 seat Parliament the early reports, since discredited (OK, re-edited), were that two different coalitions had won a majority. Exciting!

Jane,I just read a comment on Next Door posted by someone in our community. She got a Facebook message from a friend saying that there is a major gas shortage from the FL border down to Tampa. People are getting off exits because the gas buddy app says gas is available and it isn't. Of course,the problem should be remedied by the end of the week. Talked with a bunch of Dem operatives last night at the courtesy bar in Orlando(thanks Jeff Reilly and wife for being gracious hosts on the tail end of of Irma) and apparently Trump wants to deal with Schumer and Pelosi on a whole range of issues.

Catching up, peter asked a couple threads back about helicopter rescues, or lack thereof, at the WTC. My understanding is that the helicopters were poised and waiting, but access to the roof was locked. I don't think smoke was an obstacle. A horrendous error--God knows how many could have gone up to the roof and been rescued before the collapse.

Not clear, Sue, but there was only 15 minutes or so between the two hits. So my guess is that it had been hit, and the smoke hadn't gotten as bad as in that video. I recall the North Tower burned for an hour before it collapsed. The window of opportunity might have been there but not so long.

I recall that being reported on 9/11. There was too much smoke for the helicopters to make a landing on the towers. I'm sure that it was heartbreaking and difficult for those pilots to have to watch without being able to help.

I remain convinced that book contracts are a method of paying politicians off under the table.

Most of the publishing houses are privately held, so there are no stockholders to challenge excessive advances. There is no one to challenge a sudden cash infusion into the coffers of the company to cover those huge advances.

Furthermore, the media never questions these huge advances against royalties, simply touting a huge advance as a sign of how popular the politician-author is.

It's a perfect scheme for money laundering.

Fairly big local News--- A Judge has approved the Sale of the massively failing local newspaper, The ADN (Alaska Dispatch News) for $1 Million:

Alaska's largest newspaper avoids closure as bankruptcy judge approves $1M deal

Talk Radio News says that the seller, Billionairess owner Alice Rogoff Rubinstein of DC, was initially offered 1 Dollar by an in-state family (the Binkley's) for the paper, but she turned that down, hoping for other offers, but none came: so the Binkley's offered up $1 Million and she had to take it.

Despite attempts by Rogoff to sell the paper to national media companies and other local investor groups, only the Binkleys had enough interest to actually place a bid by the time the bankruptcy auction rolled around on Monday.

That is not entirely surprising: the company is losing $1 million a month, and there are big concerns about where the paper can be printed due to troubles with the printing press.

If not for the deal, the company would literally have been down to $467 on hand by the end of the week.

So the paper had less than 500 bucks in the bank.

The deal also means that Northrim Bank, GCI, and dozens of contractors -- most of all M&M Wiring -- will see little if any money for work they performed for Rogoff's company.

Rogoff walked away from reporters saying she would "never do an interview," but her attorney, Cabot Christianson said that people being left without money is just the way bankruptcy works.

"It's unfortunate, but that's what the bankruptcy system was designed for, when there's not enough money to go around. If there's not enough money to go around, by definition, somebody doesn't get paid," Christianson said.

Well my neighbors are able to get into my house today. I'll start with the bad news. Arlene said that she had to throw away half a watermelon because it was in my refrigerator too long.
