Jared Kushner and other White House staffers have been using private email accounts as well as their official '.gov' accounts. Now, a private email account could include 'gmail' or 'hotmail', which means the server and related security are handled by heavy hitting tech firms. However, Politico [seems to] mention in passing that Kushner is on a private server [But he's not; see UPDATE]:
Presidential son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner has corresponded with other administration officials about White House matters through a private email account set up during the transition last December, part of a larger pattern of Trump administration aides using personal email accounts for government business.
Kushner uses his private account alongside his official White House email account, sometimes trading emails with senior White House officials, outside advisers and others about media coverage, event planning and other subjects, according to four people familiar with the correspondence. POLITICO has seen and verified about two dozen emails.
“Mr. Kushner uses his White House email address to conduct White House business,” Abbe Lowell, a lawyer for Kushner, said in a statement Sunday. “Fewer than 100 emails from January through August were either sent to or returned by Mr. Kushner to colleagues in the White House from his personal email account. These usually forwarded news articles or political commentary and most often occurred when someone initiated the exchange by sending an email to his personal rather than his White House address.”
The original set-up doesn't sound too dastardly:
There is no indication that Kushner has shared any sensitive or classified material on his private account, or that he relies on his private email account more than his official White House account to conduct government business. Aides say he prefers to call or text over using email.
...
Still, Kushner and his wife, Ivanka Trump, set up their private family domain late last year before moving to Washington from New York, according to people with knowledge of events as well as publicly available internet registration records. At the time, Kushner — who served as a senior campaign adviser — was expected to be named to a White House role, while Ivanka Trump was publicly saying she didn’t plan to work in her father’s administration.
Kushner's representatives declined to detail the server or security measures on it.
People familiar with the account say it was primarily set up for Kushner’s personal communications, but he has used it to communicate with acquaintances outside the White House about matters relating to Trump and the administration, according to people who have received messages, as well as with his White House colleagues.
Well, Hillary made the same argument - she wanted to keep her personal emails off the government system. Of course, her solution - keeping all her emails off the government system - was problematic. It doesn't seem that Kushner has gone that route.
[Kushner attorney] Lowell said Kushner has adhered to government record-keeping requirements by forwarding all the emails to his account, though POLITICO could not verify that.
What does it mean? Who knows?
UPDATE: Politico sort of danced around the private server question, or else I misunderstood "Kushner's representatives declined to detail the server". In any case the NY Times has this:
A government official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak about Mr. Kushner’s email habits, said that unlike in the Clinton case, Mr. Kushner had not set up a private server to house the personal email account. While Mrs. Clinton used her personal account exclusively, the official said that Mr. Kushner does use his government account.
Yikes!

an old comment -
Just so we're clear when there is a Republican administration...
From now on every SoS can have their own private, off-site computer setup so they can connect with ONLY their own chosen crew & do whatever they want with no interference.
No more prosecutions for mishandling classified info either. Who cares about that anymore. It apparently doesn't make any difference.
And lying at Congressional hearings is a-okay.
The IRS may demand info on all opposition party organizations. They can obstruct & deny applications & hold them in limbo.
All Department heads can have phony email setups using made-up names like, Richard Windsor or Toby Miles or Diane Reynolds or Elizabeth Carlisle or Henry Yearwood or David Kendricks or Lew Alcindor to avoid FOIA requests.
A Republican administration will be able to regulate-out-of-existence all businesses it dislikes. It can demand no regulations on businesses it approves of.
**
Richard Windsor - used at the EPA,
Toby Miles - Lois Lerner,
Diane Reynolds - Chelsea Clinton,
Henry Yearwood,David Kendricks, & Lew Alcindor - Eric Holder
Elizabeth Carlisle - Loretta Lynch

In light of Hillary grandstanding about sending the Navy, and MSM talking heads like this creep at MSNBC damning the Government, a company I am familiar with just sent out this update on the situation in decimated Puerto Rico that I think you guys will find interesting:
The situation in Puerto Rico remains extremely fluid, but as of today, we have landed our first relief flight in San Juan. This flight was boarded with over 160,000 lbs of supplies...water, MRE's and crew snacks, for our company personnel living in Puerto Rico. Our ramp continues to be powered by generators and manned by a skeleton crew. Communication remains problematic as well. Yesterday we were able to transfer 7 Global telephones up from South America and are in company personnel's hands now. When we receive word from SJU managers that the supplies have been distributed and they are able to receive an additional flight, flight ops will be ready to launch another flight. Currently, SJU ATC is only able to accept 3 aircraft/hour.
BQN remains closed except for military and hurricane relief flights. Our BQN ramp is closed and will re-open when all personnel are able to travel to the ramp safely.
Posted by: daddy | September 25, 2017 at 05:39 AM
Good morning, all!
daddy,
I don't think anything enraged me lately as much as seeing Hillary saying the President should send the military to Puerto Rico and flagging Secretary Mattis about it in her tweet, like no one was doing anything.
First of all, it was an absolute lie (like we should be surprised) as the last I saw we had multiple Navy ships, coast Guard cutters, helicopters, and cargo transport planes there.
Secondly, FEMA is on the ground there and is coordinating everything. It's hard to get news out due to the cell phone towers being down.
Here's an article detailing the current state of things:
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/ct-dam-failing-puerto-rico-20170923-story.html
Here is something interesting from that article:
Rossello and other officials praised the federal government for planning its response in detail before the storm hit, a contrast with what Puerto Rico has long seen as the neglect of 3.4 million Americans living in a territory without a vote in Congress or the electoral college.
"This is the first time we get this type of federal coordination," said Resident Commission Jenniffer Gonzalez, Puerto Rico's non-voting representative in Washington."
What? They are being treated BETTER and they are PRAISING the Trump Administration? How could that be? Well, in that case, disappear any news about this and let's move on to talking about how Trump is racist.

One thing I did learn is that the DC police chief, the one who was in charge during the Seth Rich investigation and the violence during the Inauguration, resigned in late January and took a new position. Guess who she is now working for.
The NFL!

If the media didn't run non-stop Trump hate, perhaps these people who are either disturbed or possible terrorists wouldn't be inflamed.

DebinGA, I think you may (may!) not understand what is happening here. Have y'all seen this from September of 2014?
The valuation of these NFL franchises has been skyrocketing. Shad Khan bought the Jacksonville Jaguars a few years ago for less than $800 million. They are now valued at $2 billion.
Is it possible this NFL stuff wasn't just a diversion? Just an attempt to force the idiots on the leftwing to give up more Pavlovian responses?
I suspect there is, after all, a very definite method to his series of tweets. I think the NFL has been baited into a truly stupid response and . . . #MAGA 45 has produced yet another winning tweetstorm.
This GIANT TAX SCAM discussion *is* a winning discussion, wouldn't y'all agree ???

MM. That DC police chief was also the person who drastically cut gang crime by changing the name of the gangs to community groups which meant their crimes did not get reported to the Federal gang crimes data base.

DebinGA,
Why does "must" indicate a law? It's an auxiliary verb like "should."
In this case, he feels they "must" change because if they don't, there will be bad consequences, such as loss of revenue and viewers.
I "must" get some work done around here this morning. There is no law that governs that, just simply what I feel is productive behavior.

From the Horde:
In Pittsburgh here. The sportswriters who live in the liberal bubble are all missing the earthquake that just hit Steeler nation. They, as the logo coffee mug crowd, see the Steelers as standing up (or kneeling) against some sort of racism or bigotry.
The real people, the people who vote, are pissed. The Steelers just did the unthinkable... they just became the second most popular team in the city behind the Penguins. People are mad, people are pissed.
This was a dagger to the teams fans, and none of these idiots can see it. If you want evidence, go read the responses to the steelers official twitter account, then go read their beat writers and sports media in pittsburgh... total disconnect.

RG,
Good catch on that old tweet! I had forgotten that gem.
Hmmm. We are getting ready to discuss tax reform, too.

Not unlike the capitol police, who put pressure on the awan bros, he may get a cupcake.

RG (at 8:22):
the internet term for what you describe is called "trolling". I also think you are right on the money on what's going on here. (And good find on that prior Trump tweet).
I think I will watch soccer games for a while. I don't like politics in my football, and am not happy that the President and certain players think its a good place for it.

I readily defer to your understanding of the NFL, RG. Can't get my uninformed mind around the (to me) absurd idea of the NFL enjoying "non-profit status".

So the foreign exchanges should be interesting today,

Absolutely; those assholes lobby 24/7 to not have this discussion. This is the one item to kick Goodell's fat ass out the door on.
