Exclusive: Russia Used Facebook Events to Organize Anti-Immigrant Rallies on U.S. Soil
Pushing fake news was just one component of the Russian campaign to shape American minds. Part two: organizing anti-immigrant events echoing themes from the pro-Trump press.
First of all, I am sure there were fine people at whatever rally Putin organized. I am sure of this because after a lot of alarmist verbiage we learn they may have been hand-picked:
The event was “hosted” by “SecuredBorders,” a putative U.S. anti-immigration community that was outed in March as a Russian front. The Facebook page had 133,000 followers when Facebook closed it last month.
Although 48 people clicked that they were “interested” in the protest, only four said they went to City Council Chambers that day, according to the event page, possibly because it was a Saturday and the Council was not in session. It is also possible to claim attendance on Facebook at an event that didn’t exist. Some of the profiles of interested rallygoers listed themselves as Twin Falls residents.
Four people? I hope they were bridge players. And Trump barely carried Idaho by only 31% so Hillary should add this to her list of whinges and excuses for her book tour.
133,000 followers? sounds like a bot test. How many were actual humans?

More things that make you go "hmmmmm":
So the Trump White House's chief legislative liaison to Clowngress is pushing back on Steve Bannon's comments about the Hill GOP leadership being useless and treacherous.
The liaison, Marc Short, describes Mitch McClownhell and Paul-osi Ryan as being, quote, "terrific allies" and "strong partners".
This is the part where I attempt the rare and tricky quadruple facepalm. Can you believe this crap?
Oh, for those of you who were wondering who this Short fellow is and where he came from, he's the former chief of staff to Kay Bailey Hutchison.
Yeah, nothing says "draining the swamp" and "taking on the establishment" quite like picking a long-term career swamp creature, an aide to an establishment fixture, to be the primary conduit between Capitol Hill and 1600 Penn.

Captain Hate,
I don't know your source, but my guess is that Short is there because Priebus recommended him, Trump's people not having a lot of contacts to assess who could fill such a position.
As I said when I got into my long discussion with Old Lurker, he got these GOP career people because he was trying to forge alliances with people who had opposed him.
I would watch what Trump does, not what individuals say. (Short, for example, would like to get a job on Capitol Hill when Trump leaves office).

Battle of the Mensas
MSNBC's Katy Tur wondered Monday why Democrats do not simply get people to move from California to rust belt states like Michigan and Wisconsin to solve their electoral woes.
While discussing the party's demographic problems, Tur pondered why Democrats do not ask people to simply move to those midwestern states from the liberal bastion of California.
Liberal guest Zerlina Maxwell interjected that there are policies in red states that "marginalize communities and that's why we choose to live in places like California and New York."
"Got it," Tur said.

Much of Rush's first 2 hours has been a discussion of some Mexican sideline reporter, Sergio Dipp, at last nights NFL Football Game. This rookie reporter for ESPN apparently made multiple comments about the importance of diversity and his Minority status as a Mexican being extremely important, and in some manner aligning himself with one of the NFL coaches who is also a minority. It appears that following the broadcast the Mexican sideline rookie Reporter took massive shit on Social Media attacking him for his stupid sideline comments and now the guy wound up crying and angry about racism and all the rest.

From Pagar's 01:42
Federal law enforcement agents working the Imran Awan and Hina Alvi fraud probe said the couple, along with other members of the family, were never properly vetted for Congressional security clearances.
Instead the clearances, which provided the Awans access to dozens of Congressional Democrats computer networks and IT systems, were likely approved absent each individual background file getting “fully investigated.”
“I seriously doubt they could have passed a full background (check),” one FBI insider said. “These clearances were pushed through.”
FBI insiders used the word “forged” to describe the process of what happened to the Awan files. Federal law enforcement sources with knowledge of the case divulged:
Nothing surprises me about the incompetence of Big Government.

Not sure they underestimated Oklahoma as much as they believed their own PR.

Also from pagar's 1:43 (and quoted in the previous thread):
This has to be a joke. "One USIS investigator approved over 15,000 case files in one month “with most of these occurring within minutes of each other on multiple days,” according to the report. USIS conducted clearance sweeps for OPM until late 2014 when the businesses folded."
Let's do some math. 15,000 cases in a month works out to 500 cases approved per day (let's be generous and rose be "over 15,000" down to 15,000 even).
If that unnamed USIS investigator worked every day of that month, not taking off weekends, no sick days, no nothing; and if he worked 16 hours a day, taking breaks only to sleep, eat 3 hasty meals a day and the occasional brief bathroom break, he would have to clear 31.25 cases per hour. Every hour. For 30 days straight.
That works out to approving a case in just under two minutes.
If he was slightly easier on himself and took off one day a week, and only worked 12 hours a day, he'd have to clear 600 cases a day, or 50 an hour, or one case every minute and 12 seconds.
And if he worked a more normal schedule, taking off weekends and working, say, 10 hours a day, he'd have to clear 750 cases a day, 75 an hour, or one every 48 seconds.
Somehow, none of his superiors at USIS, or anybody in the Federal Government who worked with them, saw anything odd about this.

Reporter Matthew somebody: It's being reported here that the Malaysian Prime Minister is staying at the Trump Hotel. Two questions on that. Did that come up at all in conversations with the President during their meeting, and is it problematic for someone under DOJ investigation to be supporting the President's for profit company?
Sarah Huck (smiling) as if he's a 3 year old): I'm not sure if that came up. I'm not aware if that was ever discussed. We certainly don't book their Hotel accommodations, so I couldn't speak to the personal decision they made about where to stay in DC.
Reporter Matthew: Do you think that is in any way a way to curry favor with the President?
Sarah: No I don't.

More Bannon questions from various reporters, and Sarah Huck comes out on offense with a well prepared statement on the despicable actions of James Comey as a consequence:
Reporter Maggie somebody: ...Is the President aware that Steve Bannon said that the firing of James Comey was the biggest mistake in Modern Political History?
Sarah: Whether he is or not I think that everybody knows exactly where the President stands on that issue. The President is proud of the decision that he made. The President was 100% right in firing James Comey. He knew at the time that it could be bad for him politically, but he also knew and felt he had an obligation to do what he felt was right, and to do what was right for the American people, and certainly for the men and women at the FBI. I think there's no secret Comey, by his own self admission, leaked privileged Government information. Weeks before President Trump fired him Comey testified that if an FBI Agent engaged in the same practice they'd face serious repercussions. I think he set his own stage for himself on that front. His actions were improper and likely could have been illegal. Comey leaked memos to the New York Times, your own outlet. He politicized an investigation by signaling he would exonerate Hillary Clinton before he ever interviewed her or other key witnesses. He (Trump) is very happy with the decision he made and I think he has been fully vindicated by a lot of those new things and knowing that it was the right one.

I recall Dick Morris a year back in an interview specifically saying that from knowing her all these years he felt Hillary honestly considered herself the most morally pure human on the planet because of the unassailable purity of her political goals. As a consequence of that she honestly believes that anything she does to achieve those goals is beyond criticism on any personal level---her political goals absolve her of sin like an Indulgence from the Medieval Church.
