I believe Joe Donnelly and Joe Manchin will vote for this tax cut if they hope to be re-elected.

50 million dollars for a new White House fence?
President just said that he was dumbfounded. Said they would bring that WAY down.

Heritage spent some time showing how to unravel Obamacare short of repeal, Trump just took the first step, now Congress has to grant state waivers for the mandates:http://www.heritage.org/health-care-reform/report/freeing-states-the-obamacare-insurance-mandates

Love how the E.O. will pressure blue states like NY, Cal, Mass, Ill, Ct whose profligacy the red states have, in effect, been subsidizing. Maybe the governors of those states should take a clue from Scott Walker.

President Trump is really making a pitch to get democrats on board. quoting JFK, pointing out Reagan's tax cuts were done when Congress was democrat, asking everyone to join together.
Call your Congressmaen, your Senators, let them know you're watching.
"Now is the time to act. If you demand it, they will listen and act."
Wow.
"Future generations will know that this was a time when ordinary Americans chose control of their destiny and brought back American prosperity, patriotism, and pride."
Posted by: Miss Marple the Deplorable | September 27, 2017 at 04:15 PM
EO an excellent plan.
No mandates and small group coverage.
Posted by: maryrose | September 27, 2017 at 04:32 PM
I missed something here... an EO just cut ACA coverage mandates? Is that for all plans or just some?
Posted by: henry | September 27, 2017 at 04:40 PM
The EO is for crossing state lines and another in the works for letting people join organizations to get group rates. Possibly more.
There is also some discussion of just zeroing out mandates on Twitter but I am not sure they can do that.
The thing on New York and California is in the tax plan, where property taxes and state sales taxes wouldn't be deductible.
I feel like the person in those old Raisin bran commercials, the Raisin Counter. My eyeballs are spinning around with per cents and numbers.

So, Miss Marple, I was trying to figure out your comment
Ability to write off entire cost of equipment in the year that you buy it for the next 5 years.
After looking at a description of the tax plan, I think what you meant to say was
Ability to write off entire cost of equipment in the year that you buy it instead of for the next 5 years.
Is that correct?

Correct, David. You can expense in year one the entire cost which would otherwise have had to be expensed (depreciated) over five years.
That's attractive because in effect it makes the equipment cheaper by front ending the deductions thus lowering the tax in year one as opposed to getting 1/5 tax deductions spread over the five years.

As to who is putting it in place, yes it is elite lawyers and non-elite ones too and law school deans will come up to me at legal programs after I have honed in on a point and ask how I knew the change agent/common good function of the law had become so dominant. it makes the equipment cheaper by front ending the deductions thus lowering the tax in year one as opposed to getting 1/5 tax deductions spread over the five years.
Or more than 5 in some cases. (In my world, it's usually 7 years.) This also makes expenses go up in the year the equipment is purchased, and profits thus go down, allowing businesses to ramp up bigly without paying taxes. Very inspiring as far as investment goes. If that passes, we'll see huge investment.
Posted by: Extraneus | September 27, 2017 at 05:31 PM
Extraneus, 7 year "life" here as well. Although much of that equipment burns out in about 18 months or is obsolete in 24. Thankfully WI just ended property tax on it, so I won't have to carry a depreciation at all if this gets past the senate (it won't). Simpler, lower cost tax audits too.

Welp, Pres. Trump was patient enough to let the Congress flail and fail with the same ACA they wanted to repeal and replace for seven years.
They haven't earned any support with their lack of commitment to the voters.

Not wanting to reopen the Strange v Moore debate
:-)
And knowing how you react to the following depends on where you stood in that back and forth, and knowing many will say "consider the source", and others will say "just another hit piece on Jared, move along", nonetheless for those who do contend that Trump missteps carry a political cost, here is Breitbart on the subject.
Just for entertainment...don't yell at me. I am a fragile old guy:

Posted by: Old Lurker | September 27, 2017 at 05:46 PM
OL, not sure what to think on Moore-Strange happenings. But #NeverTrump cycling back to "blame Kushner" is funny. It seems half the people assume Trump is in nD chess mode, and the other half assume he needs someone to ensure his socks match each morning. Both seem silly.
I'll read his EO, then kick back on the ledge with a beer while the GOPe campaign promise follies consume the Internet.
Posted by: henry | September 27, 2017 at 05:52 PM
From the previous Roy Moore thread:
Moore was hit with a huge number of ads and they seem to have had no effect, just like Clinton's huge expenditure didn't help her.
I am an Alabama citizen and these negative ads paid for by McConnell's super PAC had a huge influence on me. I voted for Luther Strange before when he ran for statewide office. I originally voted for Mo Brooks in this special election. You would not believe how many time these negative ads were broadcast. While I am a Trump supporter, I decided I was not going to vote for McConnell's preferred candidate. McConnell spent $30 million dollars to help Strange win. I think that meant Strange would have owed McConnell some favors in the future.
When it came time to vote I went with Moore. He may have some controversial views but at least he stands up for his convictions.
Posted by: Tom R | September 27, 2017 at 05:52 PM
I saw that Bretbart stuff about Jared recommending the Strange endorsement as well as the Comey firing. Maybe possible on the former but surely Trump himself was pissed enough at Comey to fire him without Jared's counsel.

Trump is an executive. He will make up his own mind. He will screw things up on occasion, but he will learn from it. Might as well be from Mars as far as the analysts are concerned with their armchair certainties and complete lack of accountability.
Posted by: henry | September 27, 2017 at 05:57 PM
Old Lurker,
Perhaps you aren't aware of the Breitbart MO. They have gotten WORSE since Bannon left the White House about going after Jared and Ivanka.
So bad that many of the people who are Trump supporters ignore them, including me.
Trump has flourished for decades in being able to read people and situations. He isn't stupid about understanding the dynamics, and if Jared presented him with his opinion and he followed that line of action, it wasn't because he was fooled or misled.
Bannon was a Cruz supporter until Cruz withdrew. He is associated with the Mercer family. There might be a hidden agenda in this; it's possible Bannon locked horns with Jared when he was in the White House, or he may be trying to position Cruz as a primary challenger.
At any rate, my policy is to listen to what Trump says. All of this soap opera stuff is stupid and counter-productive.
He supported Luther Strange because the guy had supported him on all major votes. He likes Strange. He probably also did it as a favor to McConnell, who may have been trying to get him aligned with a loss in order to take him down a peg. I can concoct just as good a conspiracy soap opera as Breitbart. (Maybe I should start my own web site - ha!)
Posted by: Miss Marple the Deplorable | September 27, 2017 at 05:59 PM
Hell, Trump was dead right to fire Comey and if anything should have done it sooner. I blame Sessions for Mueller. That said, I blame Trump for Sessions. So there you have it.
Posted by: Old Lurker | September 27, 2017 at 06:01 PM
Well too much of this is gossip, Bloomberg 'fortune cookieing' that trump wants to fire price, is the latest example, there is so much gunk out there.
Now sessions was a reasonable choice, who was the alternative Mccarthy, guiliani was dismissed because squirrel, but like aahcroft he is a little too disused on his image, then some objectives furthermore Mcturtle hasn't been helpful in reinforcenents

Cruz would be a fool to primary Trump. I don't think he or Bannon are fools.
Posted by: Extraneus | September 27, 2017 at 06:06 PM
No. MM, I know full well to be real careful with Breitbart (and I give you full credit for laying that out before). The thing of value in that piece to me was that it suggests that there is some portion of the Trump Base which is worried about those things which worry me too - momentum, perceptions, clarity, etc. Even Breitbart acknowledges that we stand with him still, but they raise the obvious question about how long that will be true.
Posted by: Old Lurker | September 27, 2017 at 06:07 PM
Kurds should have their independence.
They proved themselves time and again in the Iraq war.

OL:
That Brietbart piece was a hit job on Kushner and President Trump.
Not a worthy piece.

Narciso, convenient timing as Price is the support on the cross state lines EO (and more to come). Bloomberg is filling his depends as fast as he can get fresh ones on at this point. As is Bezos. And Brietbart. And Murdoch.
GOPe stall failed. Trump to go full EO plus " Secretary shall." They built the gun and gave it to him.
Posted by: henry | September 27, 2017 at 06:11 PM
Cruz is not going to primary President Trump. Full stop.
Posted by: maryrose | September 27, 2017 at 06:13 PM
Yes their independence hIS been deferred for nearly 100 years and they were the dependable fighters,
Yes their is no evidence of noltes claim, and that is the basis to gouge it.
Posted by: narciso./ | September 27, 2017 at 06:15 PM
Narc, when I said I blame Trump for Sessions, I mean mismanaging him once he had the job than appointing him in the first place. And before I get jumped on, I do blame the boss if he allows a direct report to head off in directions different than what the boss wanted. For sure that covers the recusal which led to Mueller, but it also covers the PR of what he does (civil asset forfeiture reinstatement) and what he doesn't do (demand swift and brutal justice for known and obvious crimes in DC these last years, regardless of the class of the bad actor).
Posted by: Old Lurker | September 27, 2017 at 06:15 PM
I agree with Janet and maryrose on the Kurds. They've been screwed over by the west for 100 years or more. They're the only Muslims in the whole region deserving of a state, and the only ones who've never had one. Screw the state department establishment.
Posted by: jimmyk | September 27, 2017 at 06:19 PM
Old Lurker,
This goes back to the old thing about Trump not telegraphing his plans. You don't believe things are going on and I think things are happening behind the scenes. Neither one of us really can be positive, which is what causes all of the friction while we all try to guess what's going on (or not going on).
I guess that's why I follow President Trump's tweets. At least I know in real time what he is thinking in those.
Posted by: Miss Marple the Deplorable | September 27, 2017 at 06:28 PM
OL, Miss M, I'm getting a product launch feel to this. Yes GOPe is in the way, but Interior will get spread to the hinterlands, EPA purged of loonie greens, etc. it was a join me and win too, or don't let the door hit you in the ass choice offered. GOPe chose the latter. Now we see how much power Congress ceded to the admin state (one EO on unions, another on civil service and that resistance folds). I'll watch from the ledge, but with popcorn in addition to beer.
Posted by: henry | September 27, 2017 at 06:33 PM

Posted by: Miss Marple the Deplorable | September 27, 2017 at 06:55 PM
Oh of course they want confrontation. My goodness, whatever else would they be doing this for? How blind can you be. These are not "sincere, but misguided Americans"; they are an internal enemy and they mean to destroy us. I do not even Trump quite understands these people, or what the real game. is.
Why on Earth would any businessman do stuff like this?
It is not spontaneous--those people are working! They are on the clock.
Do you think the players can organize something like this? What, you think that they have "social consciousnesses", misguided or not? Take a look at them, for pete's sake--a bunch of goons.
I only hope that people do not let them get away with "linking arms". They should stand, have their hands over the hearts, or, if former military, hands at salute. Period.
It is a very sad display, and reflects very badly on the state of The Nation. Frankly, we have never seen anything like this. it marks to me that we are very close to the point of no return as a nation: soon it will either be dissolution, civil war, or gradual and bitter submission to these vipers. We are very close to the point were the can be no reconciliation. We are very close to the point were if we are to survive we will have to topple these people: take from them their wealth property and influence.
We either will have to destroy the Liberal establishment--and I mean destroy it, not vote it out of office--if we are to survive.
Can you image people doing this 20 years ago? It would not even occur to them. but if it did and they tried it, the fans would be running across the field and kick the snot out of them.
The Democrat Party has been an absolute disaster to this nation, We may yet not survive them. In the end only one side can win.
Utter decadence and rot. If you cannot see this then you are blind.

I think things are going on, but with the law and order stuff, when there are massive, blatant, brazen crimes committed, action. Weds to be public, and swift. Because every day that goes by where it looks as though the crooks will get away with their crimes, never having to answer for them in any way, is poisonous to the rule of law.
Patience is NOT a virtue when it comes to showing everyone that laws must be obeyed, and that there will be consequences when they're not. We all understand that in the context of gangs and street crime; it's equally true in the D.C. uniparty bubble.

JamesD.,
I understand your point, but if you remember, Trump didn't even have all of his cabinet when he was inaugurated, and I think many weren't in place until well into February. In the meantime, he had to deal with the protests and the vitriol from the press, and he still had Comey as FBI head.
I think he is playing it smart, in that he has demonstrated exceptional competence and people are getting used to him as the President.
Also, everyone is way tired of Hillary now, even many democrats. Even my daughter, as I detailed the other night when she told me she thought she was insane from syphilis she caught from Bill.
I understand the impatience. I just have to trust that Trump knows what he's doing.

Anyone else secretly giggle when footballers are wearing shirts with BIMBO blazened across their chests? Yeah I know it's bread...

Totally OT, but at last night's Yankee game a fan was ejected from the game for attempting to help one team. He was yelling at the batter in Spanish where the catcher was setting up- whether the catcher was expecting a pitch inside or outside. Not as dramatic as using an Apple watch to steal signs, but still interesting and unusual. I'd link to the NYTimes article, but it's against my principles.

I blame Sessions for Mueller. That said, I blame Trump for Sessions. So there you have it.
I concur, OL.
Do you keep any Black Label out there on the ledge? Might as well be prepared.
FWIW, I think that regardless of what happened in the Alabama special election, the President handled the situation quite well. He gave a barn burner of a speech that will be remembered for galvanizing the American people in opposition to the NFL as well as the GOPe. No one is going to remember Luther Strange six months from now. The President kept a commitment and McConnell lost a huge election gamble. We'll see if any of that pays off with the President's tax reform proposal.

I should have done a search and credited you.
MM,
You don't have to be sorry. Additional info on a story that is out there is a good thing for heaven's sake.
It is silly to expect that everyone reads every post or follows every link posted on JOM. I don't care if the exact same article is linked a couple of times. I appreciate it because I don't read entire threads anymore. I just don't have time.

MM,
I was being facetious but you're fine by me.
I told you it was a woman, well, a newly minted almost woman. Does that count?

Jack,
It seems there are 2 theories here. One is the one I just posted attributing it to his fascination with Chelsea Manning while at Ft. Drum.
The other says AT West Point, based on the change in his social media accounts. So could have been a female cadet there.
I go with the second, verified by the guy looking at his Twitter and Facebook history.

Paul Ryan is on with Hannity, and he isn't emoting like he was this morning. He's much easier to listen to.

Can you image people doing this 20 years ago? It would not even occur to them. but if it did and they tried it, the fans would be running across the field and kick the snot out of them.
It's a nice visual, squaredance. Perhaps it's not too late. People are pretty riled up about this.

Geraldo is in Puerto Rico.
FEMA administrator Brock Long, according to AP, warned people not involved with the relief effort to stay away:
"If you're going to Puerto Rico right now, it should be for only a life-sustaining, life-support mission," he said. "Because everybody that's trying to get in that's not supporting that is getting in the way."
Geraldo is getting in the way. Geraldo is misusing resources. Geraldo is ignoring officials. Geraldo is an ass.
But we knew that.

Posting from a USNA, class of ā60 grad. No, itās not DoT.
An open letter to the NFL players (and other equally stupid pro athletes):
You graduated high school in 2011. Your teenage years were a struggle. You grew up on the wrong side of the tracks. Your mother was the leader of the family and worked tirelessly to keep a roof over your head and food on your plate. Academics were a struggle for you and your grades were mediocre at best. The only thing that made you stand out is you weighed 225 lbs and could run 40 yards in 4.2 seconds while carrying a football. Your best friend was just like you, except he didnāt play football. Instead of going to football practice after school, he went to work at McDonalds for minimum wage. You were recruited by all the big colleges and spent every weekend of your senior year making visits to universities where coaches and boosters tried to convince you their school was best. They laid out the red carpet for you. Your best friend worked double shifts at Mickey Dās. College was not an option for him. On the day you signed with Big State University, your best friend signed paperwork with his Army recruiter. You went to summer workouts. He went to basic training.
You spent the next four years living in the athletic dorm, eating at the training table. You spent your Saturdays on the football field, cheered on by adoring fans. Tutors attended to your every academic need. You attended class when you felt like it. Sure, you worked hard. You lifted weights, ran sprints, studied plays, and soon became one of the top football players in the country. Your best friend was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division. While you were in college, he deployed to Iraq once and Afghanistan twice. He became a Sergeant and led a squad of 19 year old soldiers who grew up just like he did. He shed his blood in Afghanistan and watched young Americans give their lives, limbs, and innocence for the USA.
You went to the NFL combine and scored off the charts. You hired an agent and waited for draft day. You were drafted in the first round and your agent immediately went to work, ensuring that you received the most money possible. You signed for $16 million although you had never played a single down of professional football. Your best friend re-enlisted in the Army for four more years. As a combat-tested sergeant, he will be paid $32,000 per year.
You will drive a Ferrari on the streets of South Beach. He will ride in the back of a Blackhawk helicopter with 10 other combat loaded soldiers. You will sleep at the Ritz. He will dig a hole in the ground and try to sleep. You will āmake it rainā in the club. He will pray for rain as the temperature reaches 120 degrees.
On Sunday, you will run into a stadium as tens of thousands of fans cheer and yell your name. For your best friend, there is little difference between Sunday and any other day of the week. There are no adoring fans. There are only people trying to kill him and his soldiers. Every now and then, he and his soldiers leave the front lines and āgo to the rearā to rest. He might be lucky enough to catch an NFL game on TV. When the National Anthem plays and you take a knee, he will jump to his feet and salute the television. While you protest the unfairness of life in the United States, he will give thanks to God that he has the honor of defending his great country.
To the players of the NFL: We are the people who buy your tickets, watch you on TV, and wear your jerseys. We anxiously wait for Sundays so we can cheer for you and marvel at your athleticism. Although we love to watch you play, we care little about your opinions until you offend us. You have the absolute right to express yourselves, but we have the absolute right to boycott you. We have tolerated your drug use and DUIs, your domestic violence, and your vulgar displays of wealth. We should be ashamed for putting our admiration of your physical skills before what is morally right. But now you have gone too far. You have insulted our flag, our country, our soldiers, our police officers, and our veterans. You are living the American dream, yet you disparage our great country. I am done with NFL football, the NBA, and Major League Baseball and encourage all likeminded Americans to boycott all pro sports until the light goes on for these crybabies and their rich owners who are afraid to speak up lest their spoiled brats (felons, wife-beaters) who are, in most cases, unable to even speak English in any understandable manner.
Anyone who confuses respect for our Anthem and our flag with the right to support BLM and ANTIFA is just plain ignorant. Use your freedom of speech in the proper forum and stop trying to hide behind your freedoms to relieve your ignorance. BLM and ANTIFA are issues totally unrelated to respect for our flag and our anthem. Your claim to freedoms are bogus and you should ask yourselves what is it you have ever done to earn them.
Dan
PS Trying to excuse your actions by highlighting the actions of our President on matters such as this is pure unadulterated BS. Whether he is right or wrong in his criticisms does not relieve you of your stupidity.

Mr. Burns and Ms Novick, shame on you! You either donāt have a clue to what went on behind the headlines, or you have chosen to present a very lopsided story designed to alter a far more accurate cultural-story.
narciso,
Thank you for the link to John Del Vecchio's article on Ken Burns' latest piece of propaganda. Sad to say, I'm not the least bit surprised by his assessment.

Anyone who has ever been to PR for any length of time on business are shaking their head in agreement regarding the post at CTH. At my hotel the wait staff acted as if I should be doing their jobs instead of them.
It is pervasive through out the Island.
