A Texas woman has seen too many spy movies and the police attempting to detain her have not seen enough.
LUFKIN, Texas (AP) — A Texas woman is being held on several charges after she slipped her handcuffs, stole a police SUV and then led officers on a pursuit that reached speeds of nearly 100 mph (160 kph).
Thirty-three-year-old Toscha Sponsler was being held Thursday in the Angelina County jail on charges that include evading arrest.
Authorities say Sponsler had been detained Saturday on suspicion of shoplifting and was in the back of the SUV when she managed to slip her hand through one of the cuffs.
The (edited) police video looks like outtakes from a caper film. Well, except that (spoiler alert!) the escapee doesn't make her escape.
UPDATE: More here. The downwardly spiraling drug abuser reminds me of Michelle Dockery's character in "Good Behavior", so now who has seen too manyvideos?
Low number?

The only good thing about Hugo was that I was selling high-end furniture at the time and it was an all-purpose excuse for explaining why shipments were delayed. I think I used that excuse for about 4 months, even though in most cases it really didn't have anything to do with it.

Very good press conference with the Emir of Kuwait. The President seemed ca,m and in command and did not get into arguments. He pointedly directed questions to the Emir which I was glad to see, as it has gotten embarrassing how the press just wants to harp on their pet issues even though something important is going on.
Nice zinger at the end about the Emir having problems with the press just like the president. (I think this was referring to al Jazeera.)

Especially in the 70s, anonamom. When I was in law school and reported my car stolen to the Boston Police, the officer to whom I reported the car theft could hardly conceal his boredom. The police report stated that when the car was found (in Mattapan) the radio was intact. By the time I picked up the car at the tow lot, the radio was gone. Noone had any idea what had happened to the radio.

TC, our car was stolen from the Star Market parking lot in Cambridge. Rush hour chase ensued on Storrow drive; MDC police got involved. Lots of our friends saw it, as it wnet right by the hospital as they were leaving.
He ran two motorcycle cops off the road as he merged on to 93!! Ended up being held in an MDC facility in Southie. When we went to view the totaled car--a used Mercedes 450 SL convertible my delighted FIL had gifted his firstborn son after he presented a paper at a major meeting in their common field--the officer at the desk said:
"He hasn't told us his name, and until he does, he don't have no rights."

Fear and total lack of responsibility.
Sounds like what we're being subjected to at home, just earlier in the process.
All the locals that are explaining things to us are brutally frank with us about every phase of their history. Excellent insights.
This morning a new fella gave a long dissertation on the refugee problem.
Went from 1000 to 300k in one year (2015). Thomas was caught up in the personal level of helping. Ended up running one train station with 1000 refugees for months while attracting many other helpers: clinics, food, homes offering bathing laundry, etc. Mostly against the government position. My take was that the locals rushed to bring food for the starving families, but when there was pork discovered, they refused to eat. Tough shit!
The ones who want to go back stayed in Turkey. Those who came through severed any ties with home. None wanted to stay in Hungary. Every country up to Hungary abused them in every way imaginable. Hungary's generous help was a pull, that was discouraged obviously, even though they weren't inclined to stay.
They hadn't heard about the EU decision yet, but were not optimistic.
Our group coordinator: think Melania, about like she looks in her Texas tennies. Must be an eastern Euro thing!

There are no real building codes in the Caribbean based on sound engineering. People know cyclones and build on the cheap knowing that the will have to repeat every season.
Internationals, resorts, etc usually use US standards like Florida. We built petroleum-chemical plants, power plants, refineries and large infrastructure using US standards and the local supplier couldn't bid even for basic because the had no ISO or ASTM certificates or standards. Build cheap you stay cheap. We had to train local craft hires in every trade because they didn't how to perform to US standards.

From VDH's article:
A closer look suggests that Comey may have been the most politicized, duplicitous, and out-of-control FBI director since J. Edgar Hoover
I'm really uncomfortable with this characterization. Hoover might have been a weird guy, although I strongly suspect that most of this is pushed by people who were upset that he went after their pet icons, but there was a much greater level of professionalism exhibited by the Bureau in handling security issues under him. The incompetence under Comey when valid security heads ups have been routinely ignored and complicit people lost puts that tall drink of piss in his own category at the bottom. The Bureau has become a laughingstock of incompetence under Comey's leadership, perhaps by the design of who appointed him.

Ralph L.,
Many years ago I noticed the change from "I couldn't care less" to "I could care less."
The first means that one has no lower interest in an issue, the second means that one is moderately interested.
I happened to be a homemaker at the time and had the soaps on in the afternoons. It appeared on first one NBC soap and then another. Now it is common usage, but it drives me crazy.
I wonder if the use of "gifted" for "given" was simply a typo or absent-minded error which has unfortunately gotten the same unthinking repetition.

Love the Irma stories. Here's one about an Atlanta synagogue matching 600+ fleeing FL Orthodox Jews with Orthodox Jews in Atlanta's Toco Hills community. ... Here's another about the huge Atlanta Motor Speedway offering free camp sites/bath houses for FL folks. This is near where we raised our children and where the FL Bengal tiger on the loose was shot earlier today. Those "campers" will experience excellent Southern cooking via various church lady brigades. Hope the Orthodox Jews understand those sweet ladies don't do kosher. They would if they knew how, but most don't.

Message from Marples Faith & Patience Portico:
To all the residents of Lurker's Ledge: are y'all ready to admit that Trump *and* Sessions (Elmer Fudd, huh?) have been on the job doing serious business?
Hmmmm ???
I'm specifically addressing Mueller: it is becoming clear, is it not, that Mueller was likely brought in to help close the deal with a completely boxed in FBI director -- right?
Boxed in, mind you, by the President and the Attorney General making wise decisions based on prudence (a core conservative trait, last I checked). Pure genius to give rabid dogs the scent of bait, and then watch them frantically chase their tails. All for a nothingburger.
No one in the administration is showing *any* exasperation with Mueller, are they? The speculation that he was brought in to help restore the honor of the FBI *and* clear Trump of any taint from the bogus Russia charges seems to be right on target.
Comey has probably been given immunity. So, Democrats are in deep, deep trouble. This means Trump can seriously play (legislatively) towards the center-right consensus of the country and either get plenty done or exact a very heavy cost in the 2018 elections from intransigent Republicans who dare to refuse to work with him.

Tell me again why some links "bleed" like that.
Can I fix them?

right now Atlanta is dead center in the cone
Ugh. We're a little over an hour northwest of Atlanta. Well, the Speedway gambit at least gets some cars off I-75 and provides a transit point for travelers to be picked up by state/county/church buses and brought or directed to safer spots elsewhere.

Just heard Laura Ingraham on FOX asking re: Ben Sasse's bellyaching, "What did he think was gonna happen"? Seems that a JOM'er (Ignatz?) copyrighted that just last night; think she's lurking?

We're smack dab in the northern center of that cone. So is Charlotte, NC where we're going when grandbaby #4 decides to make her debut in the next several days. Yikes!

Hrt::
Liked her comment of "Where have you been the last 7 weeks."
Repubs can get things done if they choose to put the effort in.
As to Murkowski gumming up Obamacare, McConnell was the one backing her run as an independent write in candidate.
She then stabs him in the back on the Repeal Ocare bill.
As for Collins, run another Repub in a primary for governor against her.
Votes have consequences.
