A school librarian in tony Cambridge, Massachusetts rejects a White House gift of Dr.Seuss books, explaining that they were written by and for racist haters. Also, sooo yesterday.
We all know she would never have written such a letter to Michelle Obama. By non-coincidence, both Michelle and Barack routinely praised Dr. Seuss during "Read Across America" day, March 2. Of course, that date was selected because it is the birthday of Dr. Seuss.
However, 'woke' scholars finally felt it was safe to emerge from the shadows in 2017 and tell us the grim news about everyone's favorite childhood author (Pipe down, you Winnie-the-Pooh holdouts).
This will not go well. Maybe in a grand Unifying Protest of Everything we can see NFL players kneeling during the national anthem and burning Dr. Seuss books in order to spark a dialog about the urgency of change and reconciliation.
Or at the Super Bowl halftime. That could work.
ASPIRATIONAL: Someone who has kept their sense of humor during this descent into the maelstrom is skewering this librarian in Dr. Seuss verse. They are a better person than I.

Well opinions are like noses (the polite version) and every librarian has one.
I bought the "Sam I Am" to read to my two grandchildren on some librarian's representation that Sam I Am was one of the most useful books ever written to teach children how to spell and read. Guess the snotty scotty librarian in Cambridge didn't get the memo.

Thanks for the Powerline link, narciso. I look forward to Moyar's analysis.
Del Vecchio's comments are also appreciated. What I know from that time and have read over the years supports what he and others here have said about the war.
Frankly, I can't think of anyone worse than Burns to produce such a film. Why did he do it now? Because if he tried to eviscerate our soldiers who have fought in Iraq and Afghanistan the way he does to those who fought in Vietnam, he would be called out for the fraud that he is!
Vietnam has always been an easy target for the left wing infotainment industry. I can only hope that those veterans who served like squaredance and JIB and others correct the record. It's worse than a crime to propagate more lies and deliberate disinformation about that period and the people who fought in that war.

Academic librarians are uber lefties but in my experience very few of them are book banning types. Now they aren't exactly out there buying conservative books, mind you. And most of the collection other than the hard sciences is written by lefties due to the nature of academia. But I don't see evidence of removing ideological reasons. We have plenty of books that the left hates, such as Free To Choose and The Art Of The Deal.
This librarian in Cambridge is typical of the SJWs that have come up through the library schools in the last several years. She's a fool if she thought anyone believed there were no Seuss books in her collection prior to the WH gift.

Thank you, Uniparty-R&L...From IBD:
"Economics: Here's something worthy of public protest: The U.S. isn't even in the top 10 in the world when it comes to economic freedom. That's bad for anyone in this country struggling to make ends meet.
Each year, the Cato Institute puts out a comprehensive ranking of more than 150 countries based on five measures of economic freedom: the size of government, the legal system and property rights, sound money, trade policies, and regulation.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the U.S. ranked in the top 5. By 2008, the country had slipped into sixth place.
But then came the Obama years. His big-spending, tax-hiking, regulating policies were, by his own estimation, supposed to quickly end the recession and drive annual economic growth up to 4%.
Instead, it knocked the U.S. way down on the freedom ranking. In Obama's first year, the U.S. fell from sixth place to 10th. The next year it fell again, to 18th.
The country made some gains on the economic freedom ranking since then, but it still ranks 11th — tied with Canada, but behind Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand, Switzerland, Ireland, Australia, even Estonia. The Cato's rankings are for 2015, which is the latest year for which it can get the global data it uses.
According to the report, the U.S. does particularly poorly on the size of government (where it comes in 80th place — down from 43rd in 2008), followed by free trade (63rd) and credit market regulations (44th).
Why does this matter? Because economic freedom and prosperity go hand in hand. The more free a country is, the wealthier, healthier and happier its people are. That's the finding of this and other studies that look at economic liberty, whether it's across nations or among U.S. states."

Muslims hate dogs and think they are "impure"
The more important aspect of the story is how Muslims want to impose their views on everyone else. If they don't like dogs, it's their problem, or ought to be. But a demand like that reveals a broader agenda.

About ten years ago we had a muzzie family move into the apartments a few blocks away. Elderly grandma likes taking long walks. After a while became very noticeable that her path was a bit strange. She kept crossing the street back and forth. Finally dawned on me that she was avoiding the sidewalks in front of houses that had a dog.

Jimmy, so all over NY, employees who had been covered by Workers' Comp because their employers did the right thing, will simply no longer get that coverage. More than one of my friends has stopped buying that coverage for household employees because it has become a headache (MD & MA for me), and eventually they say "what the hell, I'm not ever going to run for office..."
Once that line is crossed, the other lines (W/H and FICA and on and on) become easier to ignore as well.
That's how you end up with a country running on two sets of books when it comes to paying taxes.
Back to that "Rule of Law applied equally to all" thingy. Drip, drip, drip.

Anybody know why I have to go to a News site named NBC MONTANA in order to get an update on the trial of New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez?
Sen. Bob Menendez's trial by the numbers
Evidence
Number of free plane rides Menendez accepted from Melgen: It depends...
While the prosecution and defense don't disagree that these flights occurred, they completely disagree on how to characterize the flights and which ones matter in this trial. The prosecution counts each leg of a flight as a separate entity, while the defense counts total round trips. As a result, the prosecution has told the jury the number of rides Menendez received as gifts is 20 (including a commercial flight and two flights Melgen paid for Menendez's friend), but the defense has told the jury the number of round-trip flights is closer to 5 (excluding times when Menendez wasn't on the plane and only including trips to the Dominican Republic).
