Trump begins the push for tax reform. The plan outline is here. One of the many talking/sputtering/choking points is this:
ITEMIZED DEDUCTIONS
In order to simplify the tax code, the framework eliminates most itemized deductions, but retains tax incentives for home mortgage interest and charitable contributions. These tax benefits help accomplish important goals that strengthen civil society, as opposed to dependence on government: homeownership and charitable giving.
Th non-deductibility of state and local taxes is a slap in the face to Blue states.
Has Paddy's Place quoted an over/under on the number of pages this simplification legislation will consume? By the time all the deals are cut and the transition rules applying to a single taxpayer are written in, I'll say 878 as the over/under.
Posted by: Thomas Collins | September 27, 2017 at 10:23 PM
I think the two most sure things about this legislation are (i) estate and generation skipping tax survives, and (ii) state and local tax deduction survives.

Also does anyone not think that Elmer Fudd did not know the lay of the land in Alabama.
As everyone says patience. Elmer Fudd gave an excellent speech that unfortunately no one saw about the Free Speech hypocrisy on college campuses and the administrators are on notice. While he was doing that Miss Lindsay had his nice little debate about the special counsel being inferior to President and the President's right to fire Mueller. Bottom line is the Liberal law professor conceded that the law has has been turned into politics. That who can prevail in public opinion will be able to rule the day. Boy do they think their staged hearings amount to anything and do they not perceive the utter disgust and contempt that the majority have of Congress.
In addition , Elmer is in the biggest cesspool so he has to do the work at a slower pace. Recall the indignation regarding DOJ possibly looking into the Asian students claims of discrimination in admissions to the elite colleges.

Long OT
For the past year we've all heard the meme drummed out daily by the Left that Russia's interference in America's 2016 US Presidential Election was the most egregious such action of political interference by a foreign entity ever, and with that said they then try to hang collusion with that envisioned crime upon Trump. Well in the last Chapter of The Great Upheaval, author Winik reminds us of another such foreign attempt to influence an American Presidential Election, the Election of 1796 to succeed George Washington.
You'll all recall that during and following the Revolutions in America and in France, Jefferson viewed the French Revolutionaries favorably and the French Revolutionaries viewed him as an invaluable ally, whereas John Adams was considered an unpleasant emissary by the French right from the git-go, way below his beloved co-emissary, Ben Franklin. And when in 1793 the first French emissary of the Revolutionary French Government, Citizen Genet, came to America fomenting problems for President Washington, he was feted and applauded by Thomas Jefferson, while Washington and his Vice President, John Adams, hated Genets guts, so President Washington defused the situation by having France recall Genet. Thus with Washington leaving and an Election coming up for his replacement, it is easy to see that the French preferred Thomas Jefferson over John Adams. So here from Winik is a bit of what happened next:
Page 504: ...Nor was America immune from the (French) Directory's wrathful gaze. They interpreted America's Treaty with Britain as a threat to France, or at least an affront. And so US-French ties quickly began to unravel, and the storm clouds of war again increasingly hovered in the air.
As quick to anger as they were to insult, in a reprise of Edmond Genet, the Directory had dispatched a new emissary, Pierre Adet, who had openly interjected himself into the 1796 American election; this time he sought to swing it from Adams and toward Thomas Jefferson. Actually, he came quite close to succeeding. Eschewing official entertainments in Philadelphia, Adet instead busied himself in manipulating American opinion. Thus, he published a series of menacing essays against America, tartly instructing all true friends of France ("a government terrible to it's enemies but generous to it's allies") to wear the tricolor cockade---and many Americans did. Then he hotly labeled Jay's treaty as an outright alliance with Great Britain, setting the stage for a diplomatic break. And ultimately he announced the suspension of relations between Paris and Philadelphia. Too, like Genet before him, he sought to split Republican from Federalist, American from American, and citizens from their government: "Oh America," he preened, "you who have so often flown to death and to victory with French soldiers...Let your government return to itself." When his silver tongue didn't work, he used intimidation. Far from being clumsy, he actually succeeded in helping to sway Pennsylvania toward Jefferson, thereby diminishing Adam's victory. Just as ominously, the French also announced they would seize American ships carrying goods bound for British ports; within weeks, virtually all American ships became fair game. And salting the wound further, Adet even joined Benjamin Franklin Bache---Benjamin Franklin's grandson---in a widely disseminated pamphlet attacking Washington himself.
Where was all this heading? Alexander hamilton had always believed foreign influence to be the "Grecian horse" of republics, and by this stage, one had to wonder if he was correct. Washington thought so. "It remains to be seen," he wrote "whether our country will stand upon independent ground." Independent ground. Few men believed in it more than the shaky new occupant of the presidency. Yet few men had the odds so seemingly stacked against them. So as the presidency fell to John Adams---he had won by a mere 3 votes---it also fell to him to guide America through a world now indisputably at war.
----------------------
So as Facebook and Congress continue to hide from "we the people" the "Russian Ads" that supposedly threw the Election to Trump, it's worth keeping in mind that the French in 1796 were able to flip the vote for President in Pennsylvania yet evil Putin didn't change a single vote in Wisconsin.

As TC knows well, the Estate Tax repeal will be an acid test of the concept actually put to words By Obama when it was pointed out to him that a reduction in the capital gains tax rate would actually produce more capital gains tax dollars paid to the government. Obama admitted he didn't care, it would be more "fair".
The Estate Tax raises chump change in actual cash to the government, consumes vast amounts of unproductive spending on lawyers and accountants to minimize it, and, as I mentioned yesterday, freezes billions in assets in less than optimal ownership structures because freeing them for better use is too expensive from a tax standpoint, even though that would be good for the economy. In spite of that, Progs in the Uniparty L & R will want to maintain it as a virtue signal that the uber rich must not be allowed to escape double or triple taxation of their loot.
Even my own Estate Lawyer would refuse my fees if I asked him to start drafting around the assumption that it and the GST will go away.

Indicating method to his madness imo, Trump was on Fox and Friends this morning, knowing he'd as asked about the NFL fracas. His answer - "Owners are afraid of their players". As ~70% of the players are AA, that's being dubbed "racist".

It's on.
Being organized on-line by veteran's groups, Academy grads, first responder organizations and sitting military:
"A National total boycott of the NFL is planned for Sunday, November 12th, Veterans Day Weekend.
Boycott all football telecasts. All fans, all ticket holders, stay away from attending any games; let the NFL play to empty stadiums.
Pass this post along to all your friends and family. Honor our military, some of whom come home with the American Flag draped over their coffin. Continue with the weekly boycott of televised games.
They have a right to protest if they want to --- but during the National Anthem is NOT the place or venue! They show an utter lack of patriotism and total disrespect for our Veterans – living and dead – and everything for which they put their lives on the line!!!"

I'd be amazed if you got a single insightful and coherent response.
But, CH, your response was insightful and coherent.
Actually, I want to see the pretzel twists.

While Byron York thinks the Alabama election was about Alabama politics, Kurt Schlichter has a different point of view.

I was wondering who that sad-looking Indian girl was sitting behind Jon Huntsman during his US Ambassador to Russia confirmation hearing.
It's Asha, adopted from an orphanage in India. And then there's a Chinese girl, also adopted as a baby, from China.
What's with these adoptions.

The NFL protest isn't anti-military imo. It's anti-police, but that distinction is being obscured by focus on the anthem and not the public "justice for blacks" statements of the kneelers.

BOSTON (CBS) -- Boston's five major pro sports teams are uniting to fight racism and hate speech.
The Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins, Patriots and Revolution will launch the "Take the Lead" project Thursday morning at Fenway Park.
I assume this is a week from today. This will be a professional sports Jonestown. This is what going full retard looks like.

This tweet shows a picture of Senator McCain's home. It's very lavish, but Cindy already had a pile of money when they were married.
What I find interesting is that it appears to have an observatory.
