Joe Biden thinks his party is in the mood for finding bipartisan consensus and illustrates his point by waxing nostalgic for the segregationists of yore who were, OK, morally deplorable. But fun guys!
Graham Vyse of TNR leads with the idea that earnest Progressives are in no mood for compromise with Trump. But this quote from Markos M, founder of the Daily Kos, suggests the real problem runs a bit deeper and longer than Trump:
But Moulitsas also had harsh words for the former vice president after his appearance with Jones: “If Biden’s solution to eight years of Republican obstruction and conservative slash-and-burn tactics against him and Barack Obama is to talk about ‘bipartisanship’ and ‘consensus,’ then he might as well pack up and go home. Because if he’s that stupid to believe that shit, then he’s no longer got any business being in the public face. The various wings of the Democratic Party may disagree on a bunch of things, but the one thing that unites us is the realization that the right wants nothing more than a white supremacist autocracy that would rather see liberals dead or in chains. You don’t seek consensus with Nazis. You destroy them.”
The racist white patriarchy has been in their sights for years. Reagan? Racist! Also stupid. Bush 43? Stupid! Also probably racist. Romney? Racist! Also greedy, but probably not Bush-stupid.
And so it goes. Now it's Trump, next time it will be whomever the Republicans cough up next time.
To be fair, there is a certain symmetry since Republicans did not exactly extend the olive branch to Clinton or Obama. But both parties raise more money exhorting their supporters to stand tall and write big checks to oppose the anti-Christ, and here we are. I blame Reagan - the collapse of the USSR as a credible existential threat took away from Washington a sense of seriousness and a belief that on some topics we really did have to find common ground. Not to imagine that the Cold War was an era of Congresscritters singing Kumbaya - Reagan encountered fierce resistance to his anti-Soviet policies, including the Nuclear Freeze movement which included a young Barry Obama. I vaguely recall the Iran-Contra debacle as modestly divisive as well. Or pick 'em - the Bork confirmation hearing was also a Cold War moment.
Lett me also ruminate that the reaction to Biden may pair with the NY Times attack on liberal lion Harvey Weinstein. The wing of the Democratic Party that really can't wait to tear down the white patriarchy won't be backing some tedious white guy (which is to say, any white guy) in 2020. Sure, that means outreach to the white working class may be a bit awkward and tense, but Resist!
Biden should go back to fondling daughters of his associates.

It's quite satisfying to watch the left openly write off and insult the largest voting bloc in the country. Saner Dems than Biden warned them about this long ago, but they didn't listen.
You can only get so many votes out of the Blue Hells, but Trump awoke the sleeping non-voting giants in flyover country.

We can go for some of the other Trump Quotes where the President wishes that his infant daughter have the same size tits as her mother. As we all know the men at JOM also wish that their infant daughters grow up to have the same size tities as their moms.

From the last thread:
Speaking of which, has anything been done with that rogue cop in Minnesota who killed the Australian woman or are the denizens just going to pretend nothing happened?
Nothing will happen.
If the police department or the city government were serious about actually protecting the public, they would have fired the cop, and his supervisor, and his training officers, and whoever signed off on hiring him.
If the citizens were serious about actually BEING citizens and not just sheep (or target practice dummies), they'd be voting out city officials until the above was done.
But of course none of that will happen.

Speaking of the Black Lives Matter movement -
I ran across this the other day & did a FB post.
from Oct. 2016...This is interesting considering the NFL kneelers & what YOU are supposed to put up with.
Here's Michelle Obama's "support" for Black Lives Matter -
"Staffers Worked to Prevent Black Lives Matter From Protesting Michelle Obama Speech" (scroll to #4) - http://freebeacon.com/politics/5-tidbits-clinton-staffers-hacked-emails/
Michelle Obama gets protection from BLM...but YOU are told to listen to them.
Citizens across America - all races - are supposed to put up with blocked roads, interrupted speeches, vandalism, fires, & assault...because, social justice or something.
FTA - "The first lady’s staff circulated a CNN article about Black Lives Matter protesting Chicago Mayor Rahm Emmanuel during the United States Conference of Mayors in Washington, D.C., in January. Staff members wanted to avoid the spectacle of protestors at Michelle Obama’s speech at the conference the next day.
“I want to make sure you guys have a heads up on this so that we can ensure no protestors make their way into our event. :)” wrote Chynna Clayton, who works in the first lady’s office."

That is delusional Miss M. The author thinks FB will be caught helping Trump conspire with Russia. If anything, FB will be caught helping bot farms defraud advertisers (as Google keeps getting caught doing). Also amusing, the idea that ads on social media do anything: Proctor & Gamble stopped all social media ads with zero impact on sales. That gets out, back to the "how do you plan to monetize all these hits" unicorns never have an answer to.

henry,
Thank you for your perspective. I thought the part where the author thought they would find collusion was wishful thinking, myself.
Regarding internet ads: the only internet advertising I ever saw that was effective was on the Pioneer Woman web site. Her web site was devoted to recipes, gardening, and family stories. She used to run contests featuring small appliances, craft kits, new cleaning items, etc. and when you entered the contest you got a glowing description of the item. You didn't need to click on the contest entry, but if you did, you got an ad and a chance to enter.
I entered a lot of those contests(never won) but it did convince me to go ahead and buy a Kitchenaid tabletop mixer with attachments.
I don't click on YouTube ads and have Adblock Plus for other sites.
I think the advertising industry is going to have to figure out a new method of promoting products.

"Flexible and more vulnerable, the malayan campaign for example was more spec up dependent then heavy ordinance."
This was the history for a long time. More recently (I cannot find a link) there is a view that the heavy lifting was done by the regular army prior to the introduction of the small SAS, and paratroop, teams.
The regulars brought in villagers and resettled them outside the influence of the communists. The communists had nowhere to go for local support and then the teams were sent in to hunt the hard core communists.
The Brits did use Lincoln heavy bombers and 5.5 inch and 25 pounder artillery.
