It's Fitzmas at Halloween as Team Mueller releases info about a plea deal with George Papadopoulos, an actual member of Trump's campaign. OK, the guy was nobody, sitting off in London trying to promote himself by writing emails no one seems to have read. But hey, the failing NY Times gets a Fake News headline out of it:
Trump Campaign Adviser Met With Russian to Discuss ‘Dirt’ on Clinton
Hmm, he met with him to discuss it, as in, George P knew in advance that dirt was on the agenda? Neither the affidavit from FBI agent Robert Gibbs nor the stipulation agreed as part of the plea deal go that far. Here are pages 6 and 7 from the stipulation:
And from the affidavit:
A couple of things are missing. First, as proof of a false statement the FBI really might have wanted to include an email from Papadopuolos mentioning the "dirt". Instead, the Big Reveal in the affidavit is that the Professor was not treated as a 'nobody'. Disappointing!
No doubt some will say that Mueller is keeping his cards close to his vest. Please. If the people on the receiving end of the George P. emails hadn't already checked every email mentioning Hillary, Russia or emails, well, they surely have by now, with special emphasis on any email chain including George P. The idea that Mueller will mousetrap someone by producing an email from George P. of which the recipient is unaware is Fitzmas-level fantasizing.
Also missing, contra the Times headline - any indication that the agenda of the meeting was to discuss Hillary dirt. One might infer from the follow-up about arranging a Trump meeting with Putin that the agenda was in fact the ongoing discussion of a meeting that was never going to happen.
And speaking of this never-meeting, one of the more revealing factoids from the stipulation is this:
So the nobody in London has been "working" on arranging a meeting for since March but only finds out in June just who on the campaign will set it up? Come on. And the footnote, where the message is passed that the whole thing is a non-starter, reveals just how completely out of the loop this indictee was.
So why was he lying about what are transparently legal meetings and gossip that never went anywhere? And why did he think any of these lies would hold up to a cursory (and inevitable) examination of his emails?
Obviously conspiracists will conjure an answer but I think we should never underestimate the power of stupid.
Just saw those Kendall Jenner photos about three threads back. Funny!

The indictments (and rectal exams) have served one major purpose already:
People have to think twice about whether they want to work for Trump (or any GOP nominee) because who wants their whole life history under an FBI/Justice microscope?
In this sense, the Dems/GOPe have already won.

As far as Sessions, here is how I see it. When Trump sacked Manafort the story was "Campaign in Chaos!!" What Sessions has done is showed that a Trump's instincts on who to shitcan are impeccable. Even Mueller couldn't find fault with Trump's course of action.
Manafort gets less than zero sympathy from me.

Did Clinton's experience with indie counsel or GWB's in the Pflim Pflam Pflame Pflambe deter people from working in successive administrations?
I'm taking a different view that Deep State wins by intimidation on this deal.
Agreed, the fishing expedition could do some damage--- but lethal damage? I doubt it.
The important difference between indie counsels of the recent past and the one of today, there are real crimes and extreme instances of corruption by an Executive Branch cabinet officer doing the bidding of a corrupt President in the pockets of foreign powers (The Rat).
Real crimes are going to get prosecuted. But it's going to take a while to get the cases constructed let alone prosecuted. In the meantime, POTUS is abiding by Napoleon's adage--- "When you see your enemies making mistakes, do not interrupt them."
Further, what happens once names become known with regards to the rank-and-file deep staters who are holding their secret meetings to conspire against the President and the government itself?
Pressure is mounting on the rotting heads and now the fungus in the feet and the deteriorating musculature of the legs is going to be revealed (release of Klein's next haymaker won't be pretty).... this bodes well for the "undecided" who are uncommitted to either the Deep State or the President.
We've been told that people have chosen sides. But I think the meaningful side-choosing has yet to happen. Now that it's investigation and indictment time, the stakes are much more prounounced and defined than they were at election time.
So so many people dint think Hildo was going to lose. And then she did. And then the Deep State staged their coup, as lame and frustrating as it has been (because they were hubristic and smug failing to plan).
I think POTUS is going to destroy his enemies. And that's why people will have to choose sides. They are either going to help by kicking in some timely and telling intel on the Deep State "dignitaries" who were counting on profiting from a Clinton coronation; or, they are going to slink off in the night to a non-extradition country with their ill-gotten insider trading loot.

Oh BS
These are two separate issues, two separate investigations. One is actually damaging people, the other is completely theoretical and likely will never happen (not in a meaningful sense, not with prosecutions).
Sure, its easy to be blase about people being prosecuted for the horrible crime of not filling out some paperwork -- that is unless you are the one being targeted.

The Pee Wee Herman rule - every gang dude who is easily recognizable by his gang tats is fair game to have his head blown off by any citizen without worry of reprisal by the constabulary. The only recourse for the thugs is showing up at the bodega wearing a Pee Wee outfit. Bow tie, pants up under the armpits cuffs up near the top of their socks. No hat. No facial hair. No posturing.

Assuming what they have accused Manafort of is true, it's not a process crime but a fairly major felony.
However that is a large assumption.
Not as large as the task facing poor Weedavey of trying to sound convincing that he's excited about the phantom meatgrinder that cometh, but pretty large nonetheless.
Now, I'm not sure where I stand on whether foreign income should be taxed but it is, so he's likely got a problem. The question I have is why he would take such a high profile job knowing he's got something like that sitting out there and knowing as a Republican he has no possible recourse to Dem prosecutorial immunity.

peter,
I try to put up the overnight stuff to get everyone started. I didn't realize how many I had done until you mentioned it. LOL!
Iggy,
General Kelly also said it on Laura Ingraham's show last night, so I figure it's true.

Papadopolous was part of FusionGPS? This guy thinks the Podesta Group put both Manafort and GP into the Trump campaign. Screws loose? Who knows. One of those Twitter thread things:

I wrote this on the last thread yesterday -
Caught just a bit of PBS Newshour. They were giddy with excitement.
They had a short bit on how Republicans were trying to tangle Hillary in the mess & some guy did his best to debunk that notion.
Insty linked this which looks like the SAME thing on CNN - "CNN raises the Trump Media Conspiracy Theory"

I've heard that theory before, henry. Given the events of 2016 I'd say anything is possible.

Big news out here on the indictment is that Manafort could lose his Bridgehampton home if convicted. Don't know the logic there but I guess his defense will wipe him out.
That's how we roll out here, if it isn't real estate in the news then it isn't news.
