My goodness - three-time NFL defensive player of the year JJ Watt of the Houston Texans has raised $37 million for Hurricane Harvey relief but he needs to raise his game if he wants to pass himself off as a premier athlete. OK, he is throwing from one leg and using one crutch, evidently impaired by a broken leg. Still, his ceremonial first pitch at the Astros-Dodgers Game Three is Obamaesque.
C'mon, don't embarrass us out there.

This is actually a liberal professor who has been intimidated by the radical left.
This follows the discussion on the previous thread about the book "Republican Like Me" written by an NPR executive who went undercover in GOP and conservative circles for a year and was surprised to discover we weren't all knuckle-dragging racists.
To discover a liberal prof writing a bit disapprovingly about the far left seems to me to be an interesting development.

The Mueller indictments will drop Monday. Which is kind of a shame because I've been loving the Right-wing campaign to muddy the waters on Russia and deflect blame from Heir Trump. Loved how the Clinton funded dossier fell apart when it was revealed a Republican entity initially funding the Oppo research. Heh heh heh...that was sweet.Loved Nunes little GPS fusion stunt allowing the President to tee up his now infamous tweet. And even the Uranium one fallacy was dusted off.
Everything a Right-wing media empire would need to falsely accuse Democrats and the people investigating Trump of being the ones colluding with Russia. Nice.
Now, normally I'd let this shit go.....I got a full-time trolling job and these kinds of coordinated strategies between the media, the WH and the RNC don't really interest me.But man.....the amount of effort that went into this particular one got me thinking that there's a lot of Republicans out there who are really fucking worried about Mueller's findings. The only reason this level of effort went into this kind of obfuscation campaign is because someone from Trumpworld is 100% guilty of colluding with the Russians......and it aint Ivanka.
Holy shit!

Tying an ex-President and current Sec State to Russian bribery and uranium will go to the corner office pronto. There to be covered with a pillow it seems.

Unfortunately my legs are the same length and my feet while a bit flat still work fine. My problem is forty years of accumulated trauma to that ankle. My first bad sprain was in high school then again at about 30 and again at 55.
It's been warning me lately to give it a rest but I ignored it.
My concern is this time my cartilage may have been the victim rather than previously when it was my ligaments. Cartilage, without a blood supply, either takes forever to heal or just doesn't.
Time will tell.

I went looking for some comfirmation of my previously stated sense that not much has changed in the electorate since the 2016 election. I thought that Fox News hype poll of D + 15 was ridiculous. Well here is a survey done of 1000 likely voter nationwide, cross tabbing by region. Its mostly graphs and charts well labeled and worth your time to look at if you want to understand where we stand today as we begin to approach an off year election in 2018.

I doubt its R + 3 except in the South. But that is the thing that we should now look for. Running up the score in New England, New York, Illinois and especially California does not get Democrats to a majority.
Go look at the Midwest crosstabs, remember that Illinois is blended into them and realize that every Democrat Senator in that region outside of Illinois must lie awake at night wondering if they may be forced to get a real job.
Posted by: anon ( AKA common man ) | October 28, 2017 at 09:54 AM
BTW if you missed it, Mueller has to release his spending accounting in two weeks so he probably wanted to show we are getting something for the cash.
Posted by: Old Lurker | October 28, 2017 at 09:56 AM
For one example of what I am talking about look at the second question:
Would you like President Trump and Congress to :
A) continue the policies of President Obama
B) Change direction and move away from the policies of President Obama.
Continue lose 43 to 50 in the South. But it also loses badly in the Midwest 41 to 47.
For those keeping score at home that is +7 for the good guys in the South but also + 6 for the good guys in the midwest.
Not time to get cocky but I can say with confidence based on this snapshot, certainly no wave and Fox can stuff their ridiculous + 15 D poll so far up their keister that if they invert their eyeballs they can read their trash in private.

From Janet's link on the previous thread:
"The mainstream media is constantly under attack by the president."...
" We should all be worried that more than 65 percent of voters think there is a lot of fake news in the mainstream media and that our major media institutions are seen as creating, not combating, our growing partisan divide."....
"Some of this loss of reputation stems from effective demagoguery from the right and the left, as well as from our demagogue-in-chief,"...
"None of this justifies the attacks from President Trump, which are terribly inappropriate coming from the head of government."....
Then who do they think should be doing the public criticizing of the News Media which is without question so biased? Anyone? No one? Only approved mouthpieces of the Media? Who? Tell us please who should be doing this criticism?
The Media is claiming here that they have the right to criticize all of America in every way possible they choose, but that they themselves, like Caesar, are sacrosanct from criticism unless from their approved sources. What a bunch of bull-shiitting media assholes:
"None of this justifies the attacks from President Trump, which are terribly inappropriate coming from the head of government."....
To the contrary, all of this justifies the attacks from President Trump, which are totally appropriate coming from the head of Government.

Very interesting question, Cap'n.
No to the rock question. It is hard packed sand and clay all the way down with the turtles except for some areas where rocks were pushed ahead of the glaciers in the last ice age. (Those areas attract lightning strikes).
So for hundreds of years the houses were mostly built on stacked fieldstone foundations and small crawlspaces. One reason the houses survived over the centuries is because they leaked air and they moved so they survived the storms.
The big change in the last decade or two, as houses evolved from "summer camp" structures to year round copies of what we live in at home, and as objections to footprint size and land prices forced, newer houses all tend to make use of basement spaces. (we don't refer to them as "basements" of course, they are "lower levels")
The result is a big business in lifting existing houses, digging beneath them, pouring a modern foundation, then lowering the house down onto it. Complicated as that sounds, it is so routine you can practically order it up over the phone.
The unintended consequence of course is that the rigid sealed houses on rigid foundations do not sway in the storms like the old houses, so constructing for 130 mph winds is a real trick.

Thanks for the detailed answer which was exactly what I was looking for, OL.

Say what you will about ol' W, but that first pitch - while wearing a flak jacket - was pure Alpha.
Yes, it was moments like that which make his GOPe tendencies even more infuriating.

OL - this sentence stuck out to me in the article:
On top of those concerns, all the stakeholders agree that climate change will only exacerbate these problems. “As sea level rises, waves are going to be breaking further up on the beach, further up on the bluff
Is that so? Do they ALL agree?
That one photo of the house on Smith's point is rather frightening!

And since Alabama is off today, Go Buckeyes!!
Thanks Beasts!

You are welcome, Cap'n. I love talking about that stuff and became an "expert" once we decided to build our own house there.

Mom, that line jumped out at me too! Let's just say that NOBODY will speak up in opposition to that. Nobody. The social price is just too high. At a party the only way to spot the smart people is to see who is just being quiet when the libs are ranting.

Also Mom, when that house gets set back down on a foundation, it will sell for $2M.
Smith Point is where Mr. Rogers lived.

OL, you'd think all those 'smart' stakeholders would be cashing out and letting those stupid 'climate deniers' buy their homes.
