Keep it up Hill. If I didn't know better, I'd say you are on the Trump 2020 payroll.

Buckeye

There I was, enjoying my pleasant Sunday afternoon and TM had to mention Chelsea.

Thomas Collins

Or perhaps Hill is correct but her timing is a couple of decades late, as there was a clear sexual assaulter in the WH in the nineties.

Catsmeat

Yes, the lovely damage she is doing to her own side in incalculable--no one likes a sanctimonious double-dealer. You know, I believe her when she says that her favorite book is the Bible--because I know how contentiously and stupidly her ilk read the Bible, including her on-the-record idea that the miracle of the loaves and fishes is to inculcate sharing (perhaps, very tangentially, but far more the miracle is to show something about the Kingdom of Heaven--that truth [from C. S. Lewis] holds that everyone of Christ's miracles teaches us very important theological lessons--such as everything comes from something!--he's not just doing magic to wow people).

matt, deplore me if you must

When she reads the Bible she's rooting for the bad guys.

The article linked below suggests that the replay official had the rule correct in overturning the Jets TD. The key question is whether there was clear evidence that the Jets receiver was juggling the ball as he crossed the pylon. That's a question of fact, but noone I have read questions the basic rule that if you cross the pylon without possession, it's a fumble out of the end zone, even if you regain possession out of bounds before the ball touches the ground.

I don't think the Jets got robbed, maryrose. It was a tough judgment call. I didn't see a replay that showed clear evidence that the receiver was juggling as he crossed the pylon, but I wasn't in the replay center. My main point is that the replay official applied the rule correctly, given his judgment on the facts. Similarly, I think the tuck rule call that took away a Raiders' playoff victory was the correct application of the rule, although I didn't like the tuck rule (it has subsequently been repealed).

Now for anyone who thinks the Pats always get the calls, google (or duck) "Sugar Bear Hamilton Patriots Raiders Stabler roughing the passer".

Do you know the way to San Jose
I've been away so long
I may go wrong and lose my way
Do you know the way to San Jose
I'm going back to find some peace of mind in San Jose

L.A. is a great big freeway
Put a hundred down and buy a car
In a week, maybe two, they'll make you a star
Weeks turn into years
How quick they pass
And all the stars that never were
Are parking cars and pumping gas

You can really breathe in San Jose
They've got a lot of space
There'll be a place where I can stay
I was born and raised in San Jose
I'm going back to find some peace of mind in San Jose

Fame and fortune is a magnet
It can pull you far away from home
With a dream in your heart you're never alone

Dreams turn into dust and blow away
And there you are without a friend
You pack your car and ride away

I've got lots of friends in San Jose
Do you know the way to San Jose?

L.A. is a great big freeway

Weeks turn into years, how quick they pass

Having looked at the Zapruder film a few more times and listening to the head ref's explanation, the call makes more sense. Once Butler loosened the ball from the receiver's hands, the receiver needed to get both feet in bounds with control of the ball to avoid the touchback. I don't think the ball being cradled on the forearm reestablishes control. Once again, I appreciate those who argue that the standard for overturning wasn't met. But it's a good faith dispute, not a robbery.

Wasn't Kasich the "last man standing" against Trump, backed by the #NeverTrumpers at NRO and WS?

There were 16 opportunities in 2015-2016 to beat him in the primaries and another in the general and they couldn't do the job. What makes Kasich think he has got more popular and Trump has got less popular?

Now he is being delusional as well as wrong.

squaredance

Somehow, these very terrible people have captured our entertainment industry

Not true. Pace perhaps Walt Disney, these vipers did not "capture it"; they created it. It was always like this--there ahas not been some dark "infiltration".

There was a time when they had to keep it under wraps, and not be so obvious about there agenda. There was a time when profits and pleasing audiences had a higher priority, no matter what they really thought of that audience. There was a time when people did not take them or their "product" so seriously. There was a more civli time where people wanted to see uplifting films and actors--a time when the audience wanted to see John Wayne smite that black hats, and Jimmy Steward show us the way back to our better selves. But there has not been a "takeover" from some dark outside forces. It has always been a viper pit.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

squaredance,

You have a point. After all, I did read "Valley of the Dolls" and "The Carpetbaggers."

I guess what I mean is that they have become guiders of the popular culture rather than a reflection, as you point out with your examples of John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart. We're probably not going to see another "Bells of St. Mary's" any time soon.

From Miss M's 06:59 link from Charles Hurt at the Washington Times:

All of this comes as Mr. Trump also presses for the most sweeping tax reforms in three decades. You can already hear the cries from lying Democrats about giveaways to corporations and the rich. Republicans watch nervously as they calculate how to achieve “tax reform” by doing the least possible to upset the disastrously rigged current tax system.

Yesterday driving home I caught bits of Newt on with Hannity on the radio in a replay from Friday, and parts of Larry Kudlow's Saturday show.

Newt said he was very optimistic about real and meaningful Tax Reform pushed through until about 3 weeks ago when he became very pessimistic. He says he fears the Repubs in the Senate will not do any meaningful Tax cuts/Tax reform and we will again waste an amazing opportunity to do something constructive and positive, and as a consequence of that epic fail the Repubs will do crappy in the MidTerms, when they ought to be running the field at full momentum.

Kudlow on his show with his 2 panelists said he was hearing via the back channels that the Repubs are going to come out with a program of piecemeal Tax cuts, with time delays and all sorts of gimmicks to protect them from Political attacks. Kudlow says it is as terrible an idea as he can imagine and will continue to ensure that US Corporate money overseas continues to sit on those uninvested billions, and the economic invigoration we would have if we acted boldly and sensibly will not occur. Both of his guests agreed that it is the worst possible plan the Repubs could come up with.

Speaking of Hollywood, my sister and I went to see Blade Runner 2049 this afternoon. Watching it was exhausting. It was real work. After about 30 or 40 minutes into the film, my sister leaned over and said, "This is so boring, I'd like to walk out." I was so relieved, because I'd been thinking the same thing. I like Ryan Gosling, not too crazy about Harrison Ford. Won't reveal any spoilers, in case some of you are planning on going. I still remember the first Blade Runner, especially Rutger Hauer's acting--and his final speech: "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die."
And, I can still see his face, with the rain falling on it, and those blue eyes -- and I've only seen the movie one time when it was first released.

I wanted to see reviews of the Blade Runner 2049 movie after I came home, expecting to see at least 50% ripping this newest film, and I was really shocked to see that about 88% admire it. Rotten Tomatoes says: "Visually stunning and narratively satisfying, Blade Runner 2049 deepens and expands its predecessor's story while standing as an impressive filmmaking achievement in its own right."

Have any of you guys seen the new Blade Runner? Did you like it? I will say, if they'd reduced it by an hour or so, I might have liked it.

One other thing, my daughter had given both me and my sister $10 cinema gift cards for Christmas 2016 -- and, this was the first time since then that a movie was released that I wanted to go see.

Wow, I am so out of step with popular culture and the entertainment world we live in now

FWIW, and definitely not casting any stones at anybody...

Have not watched a single second of NFL today even tho' we have that channel that has every play of every game without any ad interruptions. No biggie. It's easy to do so far with Baseball still going on and Library runs and Dog Walks etc. I plan on watching NFL in Bars on the road since going to Bars on the road is what I do, so I'll watch what's on tube at LuLu's, or The Great Canadian, or the Malibu East, same as when they force me to watch Hockey or Soccer---ughh:(

So I just took Nelson out for a short walk and bumped into my good friend the Tax Attorney doing circles in the cul de sac on his new mountain bike. We talked Baseball and when the topic got to NFL he said he refuses to watch it at all and he said that he guessed the reason I wasn't watching it was the same reason he wasn't watching it. He was correct. So anecdotal input, but boy I do think the NFL screwed the pooch on this one.

I'm not someone who expects or wants explosions in the first five minutes of a movie. I can follow complex plots. This movie was just too, too long. Visually, it was interesting, even fascinating at times. I do wish I'd read some good reviews of it so I'd know what was going on -- something I didn't need in the first movie. I grasped what was going on immediately.

Here's a review, if anyone is interested, that explains a lot (mostly about plot that completely went over my head -- I won't say more because I don't want to ruin it for you.)

Ha! I have to laugh, because I'm not wanting to spoil it for anyone wanting to see the movie, and this particular review is in depth. And it reveals lots of things that I didn't understand, especially about the landscapes and also missing humans. Or else I am totally deaf, as well as totally dumb and lacking perception and nuance. :) But, that's okay. :)

Can't speak from personal experience, as I am not a football watcher, but I have noticed little local talk radio comments about the Colts. No one seems to be interested enough to call.

Don't know if attendance is down because it's hard to tell. We are a fairly new franchise and Peyton Manning showed up last week to remind everyone of the glory years.

We haven't watched an NFL game since the disrespect began. My husband even growls under his breath when a game is advertised on television. He's through with the NFL.

We went to our grandson's baseball game a couple of weeks ago, and some man sitting by my husband, probably about 35 years old, out of the blue said to my husband, 'no more NFL for me.'

I hope they lose viewers until they realize what they've helped destroy -- as well as what it would be like to live in Lake Makoko, Nigeria.
