No, I missed it. If you or others have the link, please repeat it.
A biographer of Washington explained the pertinent framework of Virginia of the time by saying that character was a robe children wore until they grew into it. Washington grew into it.

There is a sturdy that Tillerson is out, to be replaced by either Pompeo, or Cotton. If Pompeo,Cotton would go to CIA.

Thanks, TK and Iggy.
Yeah, I read that and assumed it was directed at "voters", not a snide put-down of "Trump voters".
Sure, I can see it taken either way. And from reviewing some stuff, including daddy's link to the VDH "Angry Readers" web page, VDH is not a joyous celebratory Trump supporter like me. Instead, he's a reluctant "MUCH better than Hillary" supporter of Trump.
I posted an email to VDH :) :) at his "Angry Readers" site to ask his opinion of Trump voters. If I should get a response, I'll pass it along.

From a comment at Althouse: "Marco Rubio wants to raise the child tax credit for the poor with children who otherwise wouldn't be getting a tax reduction which would raise the corporate tax to 22% from the current 20% plan."
Idiot. The point is to reduce the tax burden on people who, you know, actually pay taxes.
And Norquist has pointed out that even the 20% is really more like 25% because of state taxes. So we'd still be well above the rest of the civilized world.

I still like VDH a lot, though I don't read him much and would be unsurprised if, as someone said back a thread, that VDH has been writing the same column over and over with different words since the election.
I _very_ rarely watch YouTube videos (you get more info/minute by reading IMO) yet I keep getting hooked into VDH video talks and interviews.
I'm about half way through this one and recommend it. A talk on "Trumpism". Hugely long (60+ minutes) but if you start about 13:00 and listen to a couple of minutes you'll know if it's worth listening to more of it or not.

Speaking out of turn for a moment, I am just going to observe that the fervent discussion on whether a pundit is 90% pro-Trump with occasional elitist moments or 100% pro-Trump seems -- just odd. To succeed, Trump is going to need to appeal to people who are not 100% pro-Trump, and appeal to pundits who, very timidly, in a parenthetical or a subordinate clause, introduces a moment of slight dissent or slight disdain. That means allowing your almost fervent supporter his moments of...pettiness.
(And, VDH has a pretty amazing knowledge of the Romans and the Greeks, and brings that to his columns. Do you think somebody like that isn't going to, every now and then, come off as elitist? Really?)

I can't wait for Snoop Dogg's opinion.
As to the post last night and daddy's comment, I found my copy of Peter Viereck's "Metapolitics - From Wagner and the German Romantics to Hitler" which discusses this very thing.
Instead of using the prevailing Marxist socioeconomic analysis, Viereck traced the romanticism, vague economic socialism, and revanchism of the Nazis using clasical and traditional ethics, which in the Mid-20th Century was verboten.
He has also written some great stuff on classical conservatism.
He traces Nietzsche, Fichte, Hegel and the Romantics and the smashmouth underlying philosophy of realpolitik and racial destiny based upon the hatred the Germans had for Napoleon.
As far as I know, there are few philosophers who have done this wayback analysis. If ever someone does a meta analysis of our own culture, what will they find?
Metaphysics seems to have been lost to the ages and it so well offers the framework to study the rise and descent of ideas and cultures.
Today you can't get a lot of people to look away from their iPhones for 3 minutes, much less have an intelligent discussion on how we got to where we are and how to proceed.
With AI and virtual reality, it would seem that the Wizard of Oz no longer needs the deception. Instead it has been contracted out to Russian hackers and Katzenberg.

VDH also did participate in the NeverTrump NR issue and that goes on the record too, even if he has mostly changed his tune.
I would still be happy to go see a lecture of his and will continue to read him (as much as I read any pundit these days, which is not often). In the larger scheme of things, VDH is definitely in the good guy section.

In the change of subject department - as my dad was driving us back to the Ft. Lauderdale airport this past Sunday, and conversation turned to golf, my daughter asked which president is considered to be the best golfer. I said it's Trump, no question, head and shoulders ahead of the pack.
My dad had a story from the old GE days. Seems Jack Welch played golf with Bill Clinton once, and a particular GE buddy of my dad's was one of the foursome. Vernon Jordan was also there.
My dad's buddy reported that Clinton's "official" score was in the 80s, but that his real score was at least 100. The word on the street is that he regularly cheated at golf. I know you are all as shocked as I was to hear that.
