rich, as you know I'm not that much of an IPA fan but I like the one you're sipping.

Dave (in MA)

I don't mind IPAs but I'd like the craze to cool down. The craft beer sections are pretty much dominated by IPAs and fruity/spiced seasonal concoctions these days, and it's increasingly difficult to find a nice brown ale, porter or pale ale etc. any more.

rich

Brown ales will probably never get real trendy but most craft brewers have at least one. There are plenty of porters available now: last weekend I had a Jackie O's Black Maple barrel aged porter and still have one brewed with vanilla beans added in my fridge (although for some reason Beer Advocate calls it an imperial stout), Founders Porter is good as is Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is always available, no?

had a good Märzen at Gordon Biersch a bit on the spendy side, but got the 2 Märzen and sausages combo ...

Dave (in MA)

CH, yes there are options, but most of the variety is all these bandwagon IPAs.
My fave local brewery, Blue Hills, shut down for the summer and never started back up again. The grapevine says the two owners couldn't agree on whether to emphasize distribution to liquor stores or to focus on a taproom.

Captain Hate

This was a great season for Oktoberfests, both Märzens and Festbiers. Sorry about your favorite local brewery, Dave.

This map shows the so-called 125th St fault line in Manhattan, along with "noteworthy earthquakes." Supposedly it's the reason the #1 line on the subway goes above ground at 125th and then back down underground at 116th and 137th.

John Conyer's lawyer, Arnold Reed: Nancy Pelosi did not elect the Congressman, and she sure as hell won't be the one to tell the Congressman to leave...There are by my count 5 of these allegations against Al Franken. There are 4 against the Congressman. At the end of the day I would suspect that Nancy Pelosi is going to have to explain what is the discernible difference between Al Franken and John Conyers? That is the question that she is going to have to answer...

What with lily-white Nancy Pelosi calling for Black Civil Rights Icon John Conyers to resign, and Conyer's lawyer demanding to know why Pelosi is calling for the Black Conyers to resign but not the Jew Franken, I think we may finally know why all those racist slurs were heard only by the black guys surrounding Pelosi but weren't ever heard by anyone else.

In the same vein, RattlerGator might appreciate this, you're walking down a street at night and coming toward you is a black man shouting and wildly gesticulating with his arms.

Crap! Is he yelling at me? What'd I do? I can't help it if I'm white. I hope he's not a racist. Oh wait, as I get closer I can hear that he's just singing along to a rap song coming through his earbuds.

Only thing worse, a white guy doing the same thing. 'Cause he got no rhythm and he's singing out of tune.

Just starting to read Clarice's FOIA paste:

The new FBI documents show FBI officials were concerned about a leak that Bill Clinton delayed his aircraft taking off in order to “maneuver” a meeting with the attorney general. The resulting story in the Observer is seemingly confirmed and causes a flurry of emails about the source of the article. FBI official(s) write “we need to find that guy” and that the Phoenix FBI office was contacted “in an attempt to stem any further damage.”

That's as far as I've got so far but I'm already ready to hang the bastards.

...and causes a flurry of emails about the source of the article. FBI official(s) write “we need to find that guy” and that the Phoenix FBI office was contacted “in an attempt to stem any further damage.”

So the question for Jeff Sessions is if the above FBI notes, written contemporaneously by Agents in secret FBI E-Mails, and thereafter denied as existing and intentionally hidden from Congressional Investigators, "looks" enough "like" the undeniable corruption that it is, even to Elmer Fudd?

An observation -

I'm a bit suspect about this negative article on bike share companies - https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/nov/25/chinas-bike-share-graveyard-a-monument-to-industrys-arrogance

Government run bike share programs have gotten positive press over the years.
Docking stations are everywhere....they're "green"!...healthy for citizens!...replace evil cars!!...
Getting the local government to put a docking station in your area was seen as a gift/perk from your government.
My neighborhood BEGGED for one.

Now there are companies starting bike share businesses that don't need docking stations. They aren't run by the government.

And now here come the negative stories!
Too many bike share companies!!
Hah!

So, Matt Lauer was spotted at the Easthampton 'Riverhead Building Supply' across the street from where I do my PT. He was handing an envelop to Ed Burke, Jr. one of our top attorney's. Hmmm?

There is a story in the Daily Mail but was also reported by Southampton Patch. His wife and kids live here full time at his horse ranch just outside of Bridgehampton. Wonder how that's going?

Another Bob

What sort of law does the esteemed Mr. Burke practice?

The POS Lauer is trying to extract another $30M out of NBC. Would a lawyer take that on on a contingency basis?

Another Bob

Oh, and under the circumstances, does anyone else think that was an odd first reaction? "I was likely fired for cause. Let's create circumstances where every single detail will be made public."?

Henry,
The Democrats will vote whatever way will stop the tax reform bill from going forward. Their eyes are on the big prize, which is the Republican blood bath in November 2018 if GOP Senators fail to pass tax reform after having failed to repeal ObamaCare. Is the GOP brain trust bright enough to figure this out? Hard to imagine, yet hope springs eternal.

Jim Eagle

As far as I know, Ed Burke, Jr. and his firm do not do divorce or white collar or sexual harrassment. Mostly negligence (Auto)and DWI kind of stuff. But he has represented some high profile summer people who get in trouble out here. Some is criminal, so he must practice that also.

He is not a litigator as far as I know, so him representing Lauer versus NBC is not likely.

Apparently Jimmy Kimmel threw all he had at Roy Moore yesterday, and per Althouse played to his audience but probably helped Moore. Of course he used words like "child molester" and repeated the BS about his being "banned from the mall."

Remember this recent revelation?

A pharmacist who fills all the scrips for members of Congress says he’s given Alzheimer’s drugs to lawmakers — who may be running the country while losing their marbles.

“At first it’s cool, and then you realize, I’m filling some drugs that are for some pretty serious health problems as well. And these are the people that are running the country,” Mike Kim told STAT News, reportedly citing diabetes and Alzheimer’s treatments.

https://nypost.com/2017/10/11/pharmacist-hints-some-congress-members-have-alzheimers/

At a recent press conference some jerk demanded to Sarah Sanders that Trump needs to have his annual health check and we need to see the results.

Miss Marple

On a related subject, I was discussing on the phone with a friend of mine why Franken wasn't asked to resign by Schumer and was instead referred to the Ethics omitted, which we all know is a stalling tactic,

She reminded me that Schumer's niece Amy is a comedian (sort of) and probably played the same clubs as Franken and Franken might have heard stuff from Amy, who is not the brightest bulb. It is possible Franken knows something which he is holding over Schumer's head,

Jane

"The POS Lauer is trying to extract another $30M out of NBC. Would a lawyer take that on on a contingency basis?"

In a heartbeat. Frankly I'm shocked that the amount is so small.

Miss Marple

That should read "Ethics Committee."

jimmyk

It strongly suggests he's[Conyers] not all here.

At the risk of offending, there are very few 88-year-olds who are "all there." Some more than others, but it's rare for one to be as mentally acute as twenty or thirty years earlier. Never mind physically. Why don't they retire?

Actually I take that back - Lauer had one year left on his contract which paid him $20m. I think it's the perfect amount (if you are the lawyer)

I would never settle on a for cause firing. Bad precedent. But NBC plays with other people's money, so who knows.

After Bret Baier's story about close to a third of our population being composed of people we did not necessarily want (ok. "intend to be") here, why the F should we agree to DACA on any conditions before the grownups have figured this mess out?

As to trading anything for an ACA Reform or Tax Reform delivered by this Congress, I have yet to see an outline of either which can pass the laugh test of being good law consistent with "draining the swamp" or "bending the curve - any curve" or addressing any core problem of either the Health System or the Tax system.
