Bloomberg runs a breathless headline:
Papadopoulos Claimed Trump Campaign Approved Russia Meeting
And so he did, although eventually Team Bloomberg admit that the meeting never happened nor is there any evidence presented supporting the iudea that it was approved, rather than just puffery from Papadopoulos.
The NY Times, almost certainly unwittingly, does a nice job of distilling the absurdity of the Papadopoulos role to a few paragraphs:
How a Trump Adviser Repeatedly Sought a Meeting With Russia
...
On March 14, 2016, Mr. Papadopoulos, while traveling in Italy, met a professor who claimed to have substantial connections with Russian government officials. At the time, Mr. Papadopoulos was set to become a foreign policy adviser for the Trump campaign. [Sidebar: "Set to become"?!? Per the stipulation, p. 2, Papadopolous claimed he met The Professor prior to joining the campaign and the FBI busted him for lying about the timing. Whose side is the Times on?]
On March 24, Mr. Papadopoulos met again with the professor, who brought a Russian woman he introduced as having ties to the Russian government.
After the meeting with the professor, Mr. Papadopoulos emailed the Trump campaign supervisor and members of the campaign’s foreign policy team about arranging a meeting between campaign and Russian officials to discuss how United States-Russia relations would be if Mr. Trump were elected.
In response, the campaign supervisor said that he would “work it through the campaign,” but that no commitment should be made at that point, adding, “Great work.”
On March 31, at a national security meeting in Washington, D.C., with Mr. Trump present, Mr. Papadopoulos said that he had connections that could help arrange a meeting between Mr. Trump and President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia.
So to recap - Trump has hosted Miss Universe in Moscow, entertained development deals for sites in Moscow, and sold real estate to money-laundering Russian oligarchs all over the world. Papadopoulos has met a Maltese professor at a cocktail party two weeks earlier. To whom will Trump turn if he needs access to movers and shakers in Moscow?
And that is not even talking about Manafort and his own connections to Russia and the Ukraine.
Bonus points: Let's note that Papadopoulos was not above some shameless self-promotion in talking up his Russian contacts. Could that have carried over into his emails to his Russian buddies when he said a meeting had been approved?
And for a last note of unreality: Papadopoulos had a resume [ Link to WSJ_Career] that included a stint at a Model UN and a few months doing little to nothing for Ben Carson. He had no apparent personal connection with anyone in the Trump campaign and got the "job" of foreign policy adviser because the Republican fo-po establishment was boycotting Trump. Finally, he remained based in London. Everything about this screams "peripheral non-player".
Which inevitably means to the conspiracists that he was an incredibly crafty, carefully placed cut-out given the lead on a shady outreach to Russia to engage in campaign dirty tricks, or something. But in Realityville he would never have been trusted with that sort of role.
First, second, or third, and still moderate.

4th time in a row I left a comment on a thread not knowing a new thread had been published:)
Bringing over my last comment since it is more fake or misrepresented news or in error:
Fake news is sometimes a mistaken news report.
Just now the police commish of NYPD in the ongoing presser claimed that 5 Argentines, 1 German and 2 Americans are the 8 dead. That is patently false.
No Germans were killed but a Belgian woman:
Six of the eight people who died in the attack have been identified as foreign tourists.
Belgian mother-of-two Ann-Laure Decadt was struck from behind by Saipov's truck as she cycled.
She died in hospital shortly afterwards.
The 31-year-old's grieving husband said she was on a trip to the US with her mother and two sisters at the time of the attack.

Let me get this straight---
every visa lottery winner writes code to the degree of competency needed by the wizards of Silicon Valley, and better than any single American who may be within striking range of possessing that competency level?
Okay. I thought so. So why can't we shred the number let in down by 81% and put a moratorium on "immigration" for 3 years?
Oh. I forgot.
There aren't any American citizens who code up to snuff or who are too far away from being up to snuff that we couldn't produce legions of coders from colleges and universities in the next 3 years.
Don't we give away enough student visas to foot the bill?
Is there any kind of non-governmental body assessing manpower needs for Silicon Valley's needs over the next 10 years? Or is the assumption that the hyperliberal State department is just going to keep hosing us by keeping the barn door open with "coders needed" as the pretense.
Sucks when the Republic's Department of Labor is a hot/outhouse for union interests and fails to project manpower needs for vital industries in the United States.
Instead, employers can rely on Mahmoud and his cousin to give us names of their relatives (and their families) as to which countries can provide the best source of coders (engineers and other specialized disciplines too).
After 20 years of breeding and multiplying in this country, aren't there enough of those families sending their kids to American colleges to major in the disciplines that SV needs?
Or is this a myth that American institutions are failing to graduate adequate numbers?
Someone needs to call this out and reduce the number of work related visas down until those numbers are produced and credible targets are set for institutions to use as recruiting goals for their engineering and science programs, technology programs as well.
That's what we did in the old days. It would work now just fine.
Posted by: Account Deleted | November 01, 2017 at 01:04 PM
Far be it for me to disagree with Chi-town, but I think it’s the H1B program that Silicon Valley lives on.
IIRC this “diversity program” was a sop to “immigration activists” by creating what amounted to a quota system that favored applicants from countries that had few admitees.

Good.
All these people in Hollywood and the MSM pushed the false "campus rape epidemic" stories that led to kangaroo courts and young (and relatively powerless) men expelled (or worse) based only on (often flimsy or totally unprovable) accusations, and with not even a semblance of due process. They cheered that madness on, and mocked anyone who dared to say that, hey, maybe we should let these young men at least know what they're charged with before wreck their futures.
Well, if that treatment was good enough for dumbass 19 year olds who had regrettable drunken hookups, then it's damn well good enough for highly credentialed professional adults.

MM-interesting testimony since I just put up several links on my blog showing how what is going on in ed ties to a broader initiative called Behavior Change for Good project that is being funded by the Chan Zuckerburg Initiative.
Google is of course tied through Schmidt to the New America foundation's work. These companies want a revolution without that being noticeable.

At doctor’s for my back which gave out last week. No progress.
At the other end of the spectrum, after enduring a painful lower back and hips since late July, I came back from the dog park last night with Teddy pain free. It even withstood a mile walk through furry tailed rat infested park trail this morning with a frantically lunging dog.
I knew this day would come; I just didn't know when.

James- a great deal of what goes on in english or history or other social science classes, at the k-12 or higher ed level, has to do with encouraging students to role play what it would have been like to be a person in a given situation. it's all emotion and the brain responds to the role playing as if it was a real situation being confronted. Virtual reality compounds this and is seen as a major virtue of digital learning.
In the real world, for example, there are people like yesterday's killer but the programs in vr will have everyone believing we can live together kumbayah fashion. As an Oxford program in september put it use ed to "encourage attitudes and values that promote peaceful social evolution."
That won't alter the would-be killers but it wil disarm the intended targets.
