WaPo ought to have checked their whole card before going to print. There was a case of a student government election (at the University of Florida) in which someone accused a candidate of a similar type accusation ... forget all the parties that sued, but the settlement was around 100K.

Does WaPo really want it aired out in court that their journalists are on the secret payroll of dirt diggers, ngos, and foundations and that their journalists don't declare the cash they get as income?

Posted by: rich | November 10, 2017 at 02:43 AM

Rich,
Yeah, I find this revolting in the extreme too. I'm a natural-born skeptic so, based on the way the story is written, it includes "facts " and innuendo.

And this quote in the WaPo article disturbs me, "Corfman described her story consistently in six interviews with The Post." Having had experience working for newspapers, and having been the subject of an ongoing reporter's story (that I wouldn't go into here), six interviews is a lot. It implies, to me, a creeping story-line. Tell me more, tell me more, did this happen, are you sure that this didn't happen? Can you make this juicier?

So accusation and counter accusation? Yeah, that's one way to go, but I would prefer accusation, and then confirmation or non-confirmation.

I don't know the truth of any of this. I don't like the way the article is written. I don't like the bit about "rumors". What rumors? Who provided them?

Miss Marple the Deplorable

I saw a good point on Conservative Treehouse which I thought I would share here.

If any of these world leaders have any sort of intelligence operations at all, they KNOW that President Trump isn't going anywhere. It is quite possible that either they have gleaned who is really going to be revealed in those (37 and counting) sealed indictments or the President has told them about what's going on himself.

China would not risk looking foolish by showering a soon-to-be-impeached president with a welcome and entertainment unprecedented since their modern government was formed.

So be of good cheer!

Miss Marple the Deplorable

According to what I saw on Twitter, the President just swung a wrecking ball at the WTO, and he also quoted the last words of John Adams: "Independence forever."

"Finally, let us never forget the world has many places — (applause) — many dreams, and many roads. But in all of the world, there is no place like home.

And so, for family, for country, for freedom, for history, and for the glory of God, protect your home, defend your home, and love your home today and for all time. "

Miss Marple the Deplorable

rich,

One of the deals he worked out with the Chinese was selling them LNG which they need to replace coal. New market for us, reduces the imbalance in trade, and one of the facilities is going to be in the hurricane damaged US Virgin Islands.

i'm pretty sure JiB and OL and jimmyk and henry (and missing DrJ and cathyf and Clarice) can give a graduate level course in the building of LNG plants and the trade offs of coal to nat gas and all of the associated issues, but this Asia trip and the situation in KSA strikes me as a much more serious and dangerous problem ... it goes back to the NK assassination in Malaysia and NK's not-so-secret relationship with Iran.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

rich,

I am sure my assessment was simplistic. Others can probably do a lot better, as I am not experienced in that stuff.

Night!

jim nj

Rich,

I don't see the situation In KSA as dangerous. It doesn't matter if the King is ill, or not, he has invested the powers needed to his son Crown Prince MBS.

I think MBS is a real game-changer. The arrests and the bank account freezes are a part of a plan to consolidate power and remove people of power from resisting modernization or his eventual rule of the country.

But I think it's even more. He wants foreign investment, you don't get that if you are forced to joint venture with a corrupt prince. So I think he wants to enforce the rule of law. Get rid of corruption and give foreign corporations legal protections and the investment will come because of certainty.

I also think that this is an international effort resulting from Trump's visit to Riyadh. I think that the US, UK, Israel, and others are feeding him information that domestic intel may or may not have.

Here's a chance to take out all the terrorist financiers, the shady behaviors of semi-terrorists who fund or corrupt politicians or institutions in other countries.

If he is successful in acquiring those assets currently seized he can block terrorist funding, foreign madrassa building, replenish SA's foreign reserves, which have been drawn down, as petroleum prices have fallen, and still have money left over to invest in the country.

It's possible that some of these people will face justice outside of the SA.

It's possible that MBS is willing to put the whole thing out for public consumption, international courts and let other people unravel the web and make more connections. And more arrests.

I think he's the real deal and has the best interests of Saudi Arabia in his heart.

I also think this will put more pressure on Qatar to back away from funding terrorists.

What would the KSA's actions look like in the USA?

Start an investigation of the Ford Foundation, the Carnegie Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Soros Foundation, the Tide Foundation, etc., etc. For money laundering, corruption and influence peddling.

Seize all their assets while the investigation continues. Seize the assets of other groups as the investigation continues. Audit any organization that received funds from a Federal Consent order.

Find out who received funds from any of the above. Freeze those assets. And so on, and so on.

Ford, Carnegie and Rockefeller would be appalled at what their foundations are doing. Let's tax them, or shame them. Why are you spending millions on staff and silly grants, when you could be offering millions of dollars, each year, to deserving economically-deprived college students.

All you foundations, why aren't you investing in the next generation? Why are you spending millions on staff and pet projects, instead of investing in the creation of the country's next wave of leaders, scientists, etc.

Why are you subjecting the nation's brightest to enormous student debt, that you could easily pay for?

Hey You, yes I mean you. Why are the largest foundations in the nation not contributing toward your education? Because they don't want to help you, only to influence you, because it's cheaper.

Not a very convincing story, IMO.
A guy's 40 years of rectitude is flushed over what one person says happened 40 years ago?
How do we know she wasn't ticked off he wasn't interested? How do we know she didn't tell him she was 18, not 14?
The other women demonstrate (assuming they are true) that he did not approach girls under the age of consent, as does the wife he married a few years after this supposed incident.
This">http://therightscoop.com/tweetstorm-steve-deace-says-roy-moore-will-sue-over-sex-abuse-accusations/">This guy Steve Deace who I don't know of but who apparently is a friend of Moore and who spoke to Moore's wife, says they intend to sue for defamation.
A hard hill to climb for a public figure, but one I would pursue were I in his position and was innocent.

Ben "little shit" Shapiro claims the initial allegation against Spacey is very similar to this one against Moore and then asks if you are treating one differently than the other you must ask yourself why.
What a horses ass. Spacey acknowledged, no matter how weasely, that he acted inappropriately and others have accused him of doing so, so we know from his own mouth he's a creep.
Moore categorically denies the story and no one else has accused him of doing anything improper.
A slight difference.
Of course the charges might be true but then again they might have been true about Ray Donovan...but they weren't. Not a very convincing story, IMO.

A few weeks ago Sundance saw the possibility that the Alabama Democrats could win an upset victory over Moore, like Republican Scott Brown won against the favorite, Democrat Coakley in 2010.

Sundance worked hard on the campaign that beat Coakley and he believes the Alabama Democrats may be working just as hard to beat Moore. Sundance fears Moore might be believing he's invincible as Coakley did.

Last evening Beasts posted that he hadn't seen many Moore signs out, but he had seen lots of signs out for the Democrat.

I wonder if that is a greater threat than the smear story.

There was snow on my garage roof this morning. Just a little. We didn't have the first hard frost until the night before last; between that and the unseasonably warm weather the leaves have stayed on the trees, for the most part, until yesterday when they came down in huge volumes. We were afraid that because of the warmth and, up until a couple weeks ago, it had been very dry, that the leaves would just turn brown and fall off; but it just delayed them turning colors until later than usual. Once we had a freak early snowstorm where over a foot fell on November 9 (this was back in the 90s); the snow built up on the leaves still on the trees and split some of them right down the middle. You can still see some misshapenned ones from then.

OK timing raises eyebrows, WaPo breaks story in Alabama is more than a little suspicious, 40 delay also seems peculiar, no law enforcement involvement ever is added in.

You know, if you think about it there was an extreme age gap between John the baptists parents, Zacharia and Elizabeth. Elvis was sleeping with Priscilla when she was 14. Jerry Lee married his bride when she was 13.

We impose these social constructs, but biology disagrees with us. In 1880, 37 states had an age of consent of 10 years old.Delaware's age of consent in 1880 was 7. The remaining states were not as progressive at kept their age of consent at 12.
