Thank heaven for science:
Do Lefties Have an Advantage in Sports? It Depends
The CW is that lefties have an advantage in many sports, generally because of an oddity value (both lefties and righties normally face righties, so in a lefty-righty showdown only the righty is making adjustments). But what does science say?
Violins, cameras, school desks, computer mouses, can openers — these are just a few items that demonstrate how routinely disadvantaged left-handers are in this world.
One notable exception may be sports. Whether it’s Lou Gehrig in baseball, Wayne Gretzky in ice hockey, Martina Navratilova in tennis or Oscar De La Hoya in boxing, some of the best athletes in history have been portsiders.
But even in this realm, the southpaw advantage may vary, being more pronounced in sports where a player has less time to react to an opponent, like table tennis, according to Florian Loffing, a sports scientist at the University of Oldenburg in Germany and author of a study published Wednesday in Biology Letters. In such games, he found a higher proportion of lefties than in those with longer intervals between players’ actions.
Hmm. Reaction time? I am anticipating a minefield since I read many years ago that left-handed bowlers have an advantage (The righties are overlapping each other's paths in the oil coating the lane but the lefty generally has the left side to himself, enhancing predictability and consistency). However, as in other sports lefties have equipment issues in bowling (left-handed bowling shoes? Who knew?)
And here we go!
This “nurture” idea is supported by studies that have found a higher incidence of left-handers in professional interactive sports compared with the general population, but not in non-interactive ones like darts, bowling or golf.
Golf? C'mon - how many people will choose to find the special equipment and coaching for an athletic ten year old lefty who wants to try golf? Teach 'em righty! And I recall reading about southpaw baseball players who golf righty saying that having the stronger arm in the lead provides an edge. I don't golf, so what do I know?
As to bowling, lefties may not be over-represented in the overall bowling population among college students, as per the cited study but they are over-represented in the top ranks of bowlers.
Geez - send better Fake News.
I dropped in at Patterico a few days ago with the hope that some return to sanity would reveal itself. It did not. In fact, it appears that he and many of the commenters have gotten worse.
My question is this: isn't pragmatism a fundamental element of conservatism? Sure, we'd all like our political glass to be 100% full, but isn't 20% or 40% or 80% full a workable advance, compared to Cankles at 0.1% full? I truly can't wrap my little brain around their dissonance.
I mean, we got Gorsuch instead of Gorelick on the Supreme Court. That seems a whole lot like a win to me. The rest is giblet gravy! :)

Hey Beasts, just thought you'd like to know, I brought my 85 red swamp ash Telecaster thinline, with me on my hunting excursion to the north woods.
I keep an old Epiphone Texan at the "cabin" too.o
Let me explain..Pooooterico, Kristol and their female back up singers....THE NEVER TRUMPS......
They are like mid-level Chicago gang leaders and drug dealers. NOBODY MOVES IN ON THEIR TURF.
Trump moved in, kicked their candy asses to the curb, stole their girl friends, and girly MAN friends, soiled their togas, said RUDE THINGS OUTLOUD.....omigod omigod omigod. Trump WON, he didn't LOSE. He owed/owes them NOTHING.
Now it's scorched earth. And they have no MATCHES.
Posted by: GUS | November 22, 2017 at 08:31 PM
Beasts,
That is exactly how Reagan operated. There is even a quote about it:
“If I found when I was governor that I could not get 100 percent of what I asked for, I took 80 percent.”
I can't find the rest of the quote now, but it says you can always come back for more later.
The funniest thing in looking for that quote: most of the publications that quoted that wee liberal places like Newsweek and the New York Times, talking about what a great example Ronald Regan set, while they were talking about the election of President Trump.

Beasts, these white toga NEVER TRUMPERS, are like a drunken wife abuser. She DUMPS his AZZ, gets a restraining order, control of money, residence in the HOUSE, custody of the children, and he gets a cheap motel room and a 12 pack.
So he KILLS HER and then commits coward-i-cide.
If they can't be the GOP, no one can. BANG.
Posted by: GUS | November 22, 2017 at 08:34 PM
The weak ineffective less than tough, sort of principled/moral dudes that the GOPe has trotted out, rivals the parade of CHICAGO BEARS QUARTERBACKS for the last quarter century.

Very good points, GUS!!
Epiphone Texans are sweet guitars! The equivalent of a J-50 - my all time favorite acoustic. Two humbuckers in your Thinline? I miss mine...

Thanks, Miss Marple!! I knew Reagan would back me up! lol

Lovely Miss M, the media and the left, criticized and scandalized Mr Reagan for being divorced and remarried. The "casting couch" was sometimes invoked. IRONY. President Reagan was an "outsider", and the SWAMP did not like that. Eeeeerily familiar. The Swamp, the media and the CASH FLOW has exponentially exploded. The stakes are higher, and the animals all feeding of the PEOPLES carrion need to be CULLED.

I have a double dimarzio thinline, with a coil splitter toggle too. Look up TELE HMT.
As for the Texan, I love it, it's old and heavy and nice tuners, but the J-50 kicks it's ass. And, it's not the sleeeeekest playing neck. But it sounds great.

CNN dickweed;
"How Sarah Sanders humiliated the press."
She suggested they say what they're thankful for before asking a question.
That was the great humiliation that prompted this;
"But I believe her little stunt is just part and parcel of a longer, larger effort by this administration to undermine the credibility and stature of a free press in this country."
Why can't they just admit they needed absolutely ZERO help in undermining their credibility and stature to the point they are now negative values all by their little ol selves?

Narciso, when you play musical chairs with engineers (aka normal Silicon Valley stuff), encryption is irrelevant. Too many people know the passwords. Human factors will short circuit any tech solution.

Gus,
Ronald Reagan brought me to the Republican Party. I had voted for Jimmy Carter, having grown up a democrat.
My ex-husband and I got married in 77, right in the middle of the mortgage interest rates going up and up. Our first home had a loan with an interest rate of 12%! We re-financed a few years later, but can you imagine. When I tell my daughter that, she is just amazed.
That was also when Islamic terror surfaced in Tehran, and Jimmy Carter sided with the terrorists instead of the Shah!
It was also the time gas rationing, and also the beef shortage! (That was when Kroger started selling ground beef with soy mixed in. It made GREEN grease when you fried it!)
It is also when Carter made us turn down our thermostats in our offices so that everyone walked around in bulky sweaters and had frozen fingers.
Boy, was I ready for Reagan! That is why I was pretty sure that Trump would win - I remembered how flat-out PL'd I was at Carter because of the economy, and I was sure average Americans were feeling the same way!

I am going to bed early, I didn't sleep well last night. If I wake in the middle of the night I will check in. Right now all I can think about is getting horizontal.
God bless you all.
Nytol!

Henry, I heard about your new set up.
I remember seeing your MASSIVE VINTAGE TRAIN collection in your RACINE COUNTY MANSION. It pretty much took up a full room in it's boxes.
Btw, I've known you for a long time, and you "MAY" be 72" tall, but you're not too curvy. You've still got a SOCCER build.
Listen, lets get together soon. Would you like some venison burgers???

Posted by: narcisoyea | November 22, 2017 at 09:12 PM
Lovely Miss M, the parallels Reagan to Trump are real. Malaise under Carter was capitulation to DIFFICULTY. It was HORRID incompetence coupled with WEAK IDEOLOGY. Paralled to Obama's contentions that ZERO GROWTH wasn't HIS EFF-UP, it was the NEW NORMAL.
Weakness and incompetence suck.

It's impossible to explain to any youngsters just how bad the Carter years were. The absolute misery of the JEF plus inflation. Inflation was a crusher brought on by Landslide Lyndon's Great Society on top of a war. Then Nixon and Ford gave us an early heads up on just how inept the GOPe could be. Wage and Price Controls anyone? It took Reagan to tighten the money supply, endure the economic hit and inflation went away. I still think the Feds grossly understate it by not including food and energy prices, which strikes me as completely even if the objective is to lower volatility. But it's gone.

Believe it or not, I'm not involved with the kitchen in any way, GUS. It's a sublet with a personal services contract. He pays me a fixed fee per cover. He had the same deal with the previous owner and it's a win-win.

My first mortgage ('81) was 17%. Learned to pay that down ASAP (by '86). I was lucky to find a job in Reagan's first year, especially since he got shot right before my graduation. But the Reagan boom was prosperous.

I'm a GUY. I'm a MAN. I'm not CIS, I'm not BI-CURIOUS.
My boy is 16 and nearly 6'1". He's and EAGLE SCOUT, a JOCK, a TRAP SHOOTING CHAMP, and he was CONFIRMED in the CATHOLIC CHURCH over 2 years early. He has a good $11 per hour job (LIVING WAGE, though he has no CHIDDDDDDRENS), my boy is a 3.68 student at the BEST H.S. in WISCONSIN, he does volunteer work, at a group home for mentally challenged adults.
What I am describing, USED to be considered AMERICAN EXCEPTIONALISM.
Libtard/Marxocrats have been ATTTTTTTEMPTING to tear that down, throughout my BOYS, entire life.
NOT GOING TO HAPPEN ON MINE, nor JACK'S WATCH.

Re identical twins, Mrs MT was reading an excerpt from a new book she is reading, one of the newer Stieg Larsson replacement novels.
I think this is interesting given the new revelation about dyslexia being the eyeballs not being left/right in configuration.
Posted by: Man Tran | November 22, 2017 at 10:30 PM
What does "not being left/right in configuration" mean exactly?
Posted by: Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki | November 22, 2017 at 10:35 PM
Eyeballs are left and right handed IIRC. They discovered recently that dyslexia is from two same handed eyes that cause some signal interference. There was also an issue about blue receptors being non standard. I think MM may have posted the article a few weeks ago.

Man Tran, I'm a freak. I was born cross eyed, 7 weeks early. To this day, I am legally blind in my left eye. I never had any problem hitting a curve ball nor a slider. I NEVER let anything get in the way of SUCCESS.

The EXACT opposite of my lifes experience.

GUS,
I started flying in HS, but didn't finish my ticket until the mid-80s when we started our company. I was always invested in aviation from working on the Boeing SST avionics while in school to proving the concept of a crashworthy armored crew seat that eventually was perfected for the Blackhawks.

Btw Man Tran, I was joshing. I know ALL about your flying circus!!! In fact, I've read about you, your career, your careers, and your plane of record.
You are quite an impressive man.
