Matt Lauer out, and I'm with The Donald on this one:
NBC fires Matt Lauer for alleged 'inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace'
- NBC News fired "TODAY" show's Matt Lauer, the company announced Wednesday.
- "TODAY" show hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb announced Lauer's firing on-air.
- President Donald Trump tweeted about the firing moments later, saying "wow."
Who the heck is next?
Was it NBC that broke the Billy Bush "Pussy Tapes"?

I just watched the ABC morning show clip of their 'take' on Matt Lauer. Stepanapolus was about to sign off to a commercial and Robin said, "Can I say something," and Step nodded. She rambled for a moment, AND THEN ENDED WITH a reference to 'where is this going to go, because people in Wall Street, people in politics haven't been touched, and THEN SHE SAID PRESIDENT TRUMP'S name."
I thought, yes, you bitch, suck it for awhile -- don't you know the poisonous media and left are scrambling and dying to take down the president more than ever! Oh, I despise them and her, she couldn't resist. I can't even imagine what the poison is like at a place like MSNBC or CNN.

If there ever was a New York "icon" it would have to be Trump.
I see his fingerprints on a lot of these revelations. A number of them originate or take place in New York. You don't think Trump doesn't have his spies and whisperers? Probably not much that happens in Manhattan that doesn't come back to The Donald.
And he has the patience of an oyster. Look how long he planned his political ascendency after the roasting he took from Zippy. Funny, we haven't heard much from Roger Stone lately and his most likely the trigger man for the Trump revenge machine.

TK, all the VDH YouTubes I've read and the articles (not that many, though) showed VDH as a solid Trump supporter. Including taking a lot of flak from colleagues on the Stanford campus. You consider him a (perhaps mild) Trump hater?
Don Surber opines that although Trump may be a master of 8 dimensional chess, he doesn't NEED to be when dealing with the media. This is because "This isn't complicated because he is up against parrots, not thinkers."
http://donsurber.blogspot.com/2017/11/8th-dimensional-chess-trump-beats-them.html#more
Case in point: media anti-Trumper Shapiro says Trump should be tweeting about more serious topics. Turns out DJT did, it's just that Shapiro didn't read, or selectively viewed the tweets and overlooked ones on the exact topics he chose to highlight.

One of the things about the Olympics is that the athlete's village is a rabbit warren. Kids hooking up 24/7, usually as soon as they finish competition. They give away tens of thousands of condoms, some of which get used.
It may have something to do with the performance enhancing drugs they use, but it's been that way for a long time.
We do know now that the team doctor for USA Gymnastics was a child molester.
Hormones running high, close proximity, an otherworldly environment. It at least gives some context.
Whether Lauer is a repeat offender or this was a one off indiscretion/assault we don't know. But the setting was certainly there.
I wonder when and how the bloodbath will end? I truly doubt there will be a thoughtful and reasoned response. It's more like Chinese apparatchiks shooting criminals in front of crowds of thousands.

I see that both Variety and the NYT were working on stories about Lauer, so NBC fired him to get ahead of the story. Multiple victims.
This of course opens NBC up to other questions, like who all knew about this, were complaints ignored, etc.
I see more firings and resignations coming down the road.

Tammy Bruce was talking yesterday about how the Cokie Roberts comment shouldn't be allowed to just quietly fade away. A couple of weeks ago, Cokie was chattering away about the sexual harassment carnage in Hollywood, and the NPR host asked her about open secrets in Washington. She paused a couple of beats, and then offered up Strom Thurmond as someone people "knew not to get in an elevator with". (She used that phrasing then, too.)
I expect there some other folks Cokie knows about, but she is not going to be the one that outs anybody.

The question is not why Matt Lauer was fired.
It's why he was hired in the first place.
You could ask that about practically every news anchor, not to mention late night host.
They always choose the committed leftist over the more competent. Dan Rather was a horrible anchor, stiff as a board, but CBS chose him over Roger Mudd, probably because Mudd had the audacity to humiliate the Lion of the Senate.
And passing over the apolitical and funny Craig Ferguson for the despicable and completely un-funny Colbert was another case.

Business is about maximizing return on investment perhaps with some civic responsibility along the way.
Instead we have been subject to political tests and old school ties in many cases. Groupthink has done a lot of damage in the country.
Upsetting half of one's potential customer base is bad business any way you look at it and now we have the layer upon layer of sleaze and hypocrisy on top of it.
We have had Industrial Revolutions and tech Revolutions. Interesting that we're having a Douchebag Revolution, or is that what it really is? I see a lot of Pharisees out there right now, especially people like Cokie Roberts.
