Oh my - Congressional leaders may or may not be able to separate action on some version of the DREAM act with a funding bill needed to keep the government open. One scenario is a government shutdown for the holidays:
Concern is growing in both parties that a clash over the fate of Dreamers will trigger a government shutdown this December.
House conservatives have warned Speaker Paul Ryan against lumping a fix for undocumented immigrants who came to the country as minors into a year-end spending deal. They want him to keep the two issues separate and delay immigration negotiations into 2018 to increase their leverage — which both Ryan and the White House consider reasonable.
But many liberal Democrats have already vowed to withhold votes from the spending bill should it not address Dreamers, putting Democratic leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer in an awkward spot if they don’t go along.
Democrats know Republicans need their votes to fund the government past the current Dec. 8 deadline, and many want Pelosi and Schumer to stand firm against the must-pass bill until leaders save the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
Late in the story Politico describes the divisive issues:
The kind of solution being advocated by Democrats or even centrist Republicans could incite a riot in the GOP ranks. In exchange for a DACA fix, conservatives want to boost border security, curb “chain migration” and force companies to set up E-verification systems to check that their workers are here legally — proposals most Democrats will oppose.
Ok, 'chain migration', reuniting extended families, will obviously be important to the currently documented Democrats originally from elsewhere, as well as to the future Democrat voters they hope to wave in. Switching to a merit-based system similar to, well, every other country, has abstract yet diffuse benefits for the US as a whole, so why would Dems vote for that when their own voters can gain a specific benefit?
But seriously - Dems will oppose efforts to enforce the current law by means of border security and E-verify? OK, of course they will, but I agree - based on his campaign rhetoric, not to mention the concept of a rule of law, Trump ought to be dead-set against the sort of compromise these Dems seem to want.
No, the DREAM won't kill Christmas but it sure as hell is killing the Democrats.

Good morning, everybody. I've been supremely distracted by family drama. It's a tale uniquely Southern, I think, and definitely "Colored" but revolves around my soon-to-be 85-year-old mother and her hubby who is my age. If I'm not imprisoned over the next couple of months, I thank you in advance for your prayers.
Oh yeah, Happy Thanksgiving.

He has been incredibly perceptive but it isn't just that he lives in California, MM. He has said his politics are to the left of Bernie Sanders. Think about that. It's very hard to believe such a man understands the South at all.
Thus, if you think Roy Moore has already lost, you are certifiably clueless about that race and about Alabama, among other matters. Something additional may arise that makes Moore a loser but if it doesn't, he's easily going to win this vote -- in part, because he's clearly the victim of a political hit job that doesn't stand up to even minimal scrutiny.

The question is what part of Trump's campaign position was a throwaway to get the "deal"? My guess is he is open to something for the "dreamers" (like a green card and national voter ID to keep them out of the polls).

Let's not forget that besides intentionally humiliating little Laura Ingalls and probably being the reason she became a lesbian, Oliver Stone was also accused a month ago of just walking up at a party and grabbing some gal's boob and honking it like a horn.*
Ordinarily I would advocate caution regarding such accusations but in Stone's case that arrogant, smarmy, smirking face alone is evidence beyond a reasonable doubt.
*Note to Appalled; she didn’t want him to do it even though he is rich and powerful so she didn't "let him do it" which makes it not consensual. I understand that appears to you to be highly illogical reasoning but if you buckle on your JOM thinking cap perhaps you can grasp the bizarre concept anyway.

The gangs and thugs and cartels are vicious. Does anyone watch Narcos on Netflix? In September, the location manager for the show was murdered in Mexico while scouting locations for next season's production. The Juarez cartel was to be featured next season.

I remember that after 9/11,the COS met with the young staffers in the daughter's office to devise a plan of action to evacuate the building. The COS was so upset that she couldn't find the staffers on 9/11 because they had fled the building. She felt responsible for them. She was more upset than the Senator, truth be told, but we won't go there.

Now that we learn some of the details of gruesome John Conyer as a sexual predator, but also as we now read that Charlie Rose walked out in his bathrobe to at least 3 different women and I think walked out nude to a 4th, let me ask this question: Who is at the top of your list of the worst sexual assaulters we've learned about over the last month, and why?
I'll start. It's probably hard to top the sheer ugliness of Harvey Weinstein's rapes, or the sheer evilness of Kevin Spacey's rapes, but I'm nominating Charlie Rose, because Charlie Rose is such a preening dilettante asshole who has acted for ages as if he's god's arbiter of compassionate human behavior. He ought to burn in hell forever for simply telling that Secretary that she'd never be anything other than his secretary since she didn't have a College Degree.
"But soon, Godfrey-Ryan said, he began yelling at her, calling her stupid and incompetent and pathetic.
“He repeatedly attacked her in front of other people,” recalled a former producer who spoke on the condition of anonymity. “He once said that because she hadn’t gotten a college degree she would never amount to anything better than his secretary.”
E'ff Charlie Rose.

daddy,
The schadenfraude here is that all of this is coming out because of Trump! Back when Bubba had his "issues", none of this came out or would have come out due to his behavior. Of course not, doing that would legitimize his deviance.
So, the left felt enabled now to go after a harrasser (i.e. Trump) but it has backfired like all the other things they have tried to stick on him. Actually, this time it is a riccochet versus a backfire.

Apparently you're simply an idiot.
What does a gun to someone's head at screenwriters school have to do with the price of tea in China?
In the Stone case the boob grabee explicitly denied "letting" him and Gilbert described an intentional humiliation of her which she also obviously didn’t "let" him do.
This is contrasted with Trump's amazement that wealth and power attract women who do let you do such things.
That you stick to your bizarre reading of Trump's plain language makes me wonder if someone is grabbing your pussy as you write.

Let the record show that I didn't start this installment of this fuss.
Also let the record show that Trump, in using the word "let" essentially meant "consent" on the AH tape. The pedantic point I made with Porchlight days ago was that "let" is not necessarily "consent." I said at the time that it was a pedantic point, that it was not germane to the AH tape itself. But you felt it was something to litigate sooo...I litigated. I think we may share a character flaw ;)
As for the AH tape, you believe that only one interpretation is possible, and you have to be an idiot to think otherwise. I will just note that if there are cases with Trump where the lady claims Trump kissed her without consent, or grabbed her without consent, this tape is going into evidence. Trump will claim he meant what you say he made. The Gloria Allred equivalent will claim otherwise. We'll see what the idiots on the jury (or on the bench) decide.

Appalled's example of non-consent: "He had a gun to my head: of course I let him"
Mr. Trump's example of consent: "He is famous; of course I let him"
I feel like the little boy in The Emperor's New Clothes. If you listen to or read Trump's actual words, and you understand English, he is talking about
1) hypothetical situations; (subjunctive mood, baby)
AND
2) two entire classes of people; (famous men in Hollywood, women who turn skanky for famous men in Hollywood)
...and if we've learned anything over the weeks since the Harvey Weinstein story broke, it's that Trump was right about Hollywood, too.
Don't know if anyone else has already slapped this down, so this may be a repeat.Posted by: cathyf | November 21, 2017 at 10:37 AM
--Also let the record show that Trump, in using the word "let" essentially meant "consent" on the AH tape. The pedantic point I made with Porchlight days ago was that "let" is not necessarily "consent."--
Wait, so you have all along conceded that Trump in fact meant "consent" and was in no way describing non consensual contact and you have been off on a wild hair that another definition for "let" can mean unwilling acceptance?
I withdraw my objection and ask the court take judicial notice that Appalled has conceded his case and there is in fact no actual controversy before the bench.

One last point before I go.
If these cases ever got to trial, which they won't, all Trump has to do is be asked what did you mean by "let" Mr Trump and explain.
At that point the recording works in his favor because the plain meaning plants doubt about the accuser's story and their motivations, not Trump's.

Iggy:
Let's identify the point of contention and leave it alone. And here it is.
My View: Trump, in his AH tape, is a mind reader. He just kisses. He knows they want it, because he's a star, they let him. If his mind reading is faulty in any way, then he's just kissed someone without consent (and he has become Al Franken at the USO tour).
Ignatz View: Trump's getting prior consent (if he's really doing anything). He just knows women.
cathyf's view: This is just all hypothetical.
Judge's view: You may proceed, Ms. Allred.

How about the Human Rights Campaign's Terry Bean & the pedo charges against him - http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2015/09/225000_offer_by_gay_rights_act.html
FTA - "Prosecutors could offer the teenager only $5 a day as a witness fee to testify against Bean - along with "the chance to talk about embarrassing details from his past ... in front of a group of strangers," Hasselman said.
"Mr. Bean offered him over $200,000 to civilly compromise this case," Hasselman said. "Now if you're this child and you have the choice between embarrassment and $5 a day and over $200,000 ... it seems to me that would be a highly influential factor in deciding what you're going to do."

The only law suit I've heard about is by a crazy woman who tried it once already in California and it was thrown out of court, so she has now filed in NY.
If there really was a legitimate law suit, we'd have been hearing about it from the MSM 24/7 for months now.
But, hey, keep hope alive.

What's a KA?
Posted by: Janet 🚬 | November 21, 2017 at 11:46 AM
Ah, I looked it up, Appalled.
The only suit brought was by Summer Zervos, and it isn't for the sexual misconduct she accused Trump of before the election.
It's for defamation because he called her a liar.
So, how does the tape fit in?
And, mea culpa, it IS an Allred suit:

Kappa Alpha Order fraternity. Their designated gentleman is R. E. Lee and their formal theme is 'Old South'. At Alabama they had a 60' x 90' rebel flag that draped their entire portico, as they dressed up as Confederate officers and their dates in hoop skirts.

After 48 year career of boredom and dullness, United States reporter Charlie Rose finally breaks interesting news story.

My favorite KA:

I sent his Porter Osborne trilogy to Soylent when he was in Afghanistan. Great stuff. Would probably be considered way too politically incorrect nowadays.

Allred.

rich's view: Appalled is being dense, intentionally so, and needs to be trashed some more on 2 blogs.

I know I speak for others here, RG--we'll all claim you were with us and out of town when whatever you did happened--and we have signed, dated yearbooks to prove it.

When is PBS gonna be cut off from taxpayer money?
Seriously, they need to make it on their own like every other TV station.
Not one dime.

Insty links to a piece where Dems are "concerned" that ramming through Trump's judicial nominees despite blue slips by trampling the filibuster will lead to said judges being considered political partisans.
Wow. And they found someone to say that with a straight face?

Henry. Ayers and dohrn were also on the ferry that tried to beach in gaza.

KA was pretty much the Animal House of hardasses at Maryland when I was there. Charlie Rose being part of that does not compute, even as a family legacy and he was a genetic anomaly.

When the Uniparty is in the minority.

Paul Ryan sniffing and downcast eyes, "this is not who we are."
Posted by: rich | November 21, 2017 at 12:13 PM
and seeing as the thread topic is "DREAMERS" Roided Up Ryan and the fairy band of GOPers are thinking of cocking up tax cuts just like they did "repeal and replace".

The 2018 primaries will hopefully be another definition of repeal and replace. I really hope Bannon has a good plan.

RG,
Gator booster buddy confirms Chip Kelly and is beside himself since Kelly is not a Florida guy and is afraid he won't know how to relate to the kids during recruitment, etc. Evidently, its not going down well with the donor class.

"If (Trump's) mind reading is faulty in any way, then he's just kissed someone without consent (and he has become Al Franken at the USO tour)."
Appalled, would you agree there is a difference in an unwanted kiss, even lip to lip, and thrusting a tongue down someone's throat? Or not?

I'm listening to a woman at the bar mention that she has 38 people for dinner tomorrow night and 54 coming in for Thanksgiving. Uh...
Posted by: Beasts of England | November 21, 2017 at 12:54 PM
Wow, Beasts. We're "only" going to have 28 at our Thanksgiving.
And hopefully no politics!

Good afternoon!
Good news! Switching to a combined Medicare Advantage/Prescription Drug coverage as opposed to a supplement plus a prescription policy is going to save me over $200 a month!
This is a BIG DEAL for me. God bless that agent!
Now, who's been accused of sexual harassment while I've been gone?
Posted by: Miss Marple the Deplorable | November 21, 2017 at 12:57 PM
Deplorable Don Surber has two posts related to the groping Dem "Biden Brigade"
http://donsurber.blogspot.com/2017/11/charlie-rose-shows-how-not-to-apologize.html
In recent days, America has learned there is a whole legion of lecherous lefties out there ... On Monday, Charlie Rose of PBS and CBS, and Glenn Thrush of the New York Times fell.
http://donsurber.blogspot.com/2017/11/republicans-need-to-learn-lesson-of.html
Scott Adams of Dilbert fame thinks Roy Moore is toast, I don't. ... The election comes down to whether Republicans want to limit government, cut taxes, and Make America Great Again -- or whether they would like to please the news media. We cannot risk the disapproval of Charlie Rose, can we? ... I love my country more than I love my party -- so I say vote for Roy Moore. If guilty, you can remove him. But if innocent, you cannot install him if he loses to super-liberal Doug Jones.

Appalled has reaccused Trump while making misstatements about the facts. Does that count?

We will have at least 21. Maybe more if grandson brings his girl friend.

I'm not hosting, for the first time in 3 (?) years. Yay! My mom, my aunt and I will cook together for a total group of nine including the kids. Nice and easy.

In Florida. I will wave hi to all the Floridians! Maybe we will take a spin up to Palm Beach and say hi to the Trumps. :)

Evidently, its not going down well with the donor class.
It seems like a horrible culture fit and coming after a prolonged period of failure in the NFL. Nothing works like winning but it will cost them a lot to find out if that's what will happen.

Thanks for answering Appalled...
It's (asperger's) normally attributed to high-functioning individuals on the Autism spectrum..but social cues are just a part of if. Then you have many claiming Asperger's, where stubborn explains it. 😉
Each individual's affectation on the spectrum are as different, nuanced as, say..Mars & Venus!
And then you have sociopaths..like Hillary or Spacey, no conscience, only self-aggrandizement.
Everyone else can learn, joke, empathize and respect individuality.
Happy Thanksgiving🦃🇺🇸
