Saturday is college football day so All Stand.
The NY Times presents the playoff implications.
The Shoo-Ins
These teams are probably guaranteed berths if they win their conference championship games. The group includes the top four teams in the current playoff rankings, who are all playing in title games on Saturday: No. 1 Clemson (11-1); No. 2 Auburn (10-2); No. 3 Oklahoma (11-1); and No. 4 Wisconsin (12-0). But because of their relatively high rankings and the strong competition they will face Saturday, two more teams can be considered shoo-ins in if they win: No. 6 Georgia (11-1), which plays Auburn, and No. 7 Miami (10-1), which faces Clemson.
The Teams That Need Help
Two need more than a win Saturday. No. 8 Ohio State (10-2) must beat Wisconsin for the Big Ten title and then hope the committee deems them more worthy than No. 5 Alabama (11-1), which is currently ahead of the Buckeyes but is (uneasily) off this weekend after missing out on the Southeastern Conference title game. Alabama would ideally have both Wisconsin and Oklahoma lose (especially since even with a loss Clemson might stay ahead of Alabama), or at the least have one lose and for the committee to continue to rate the Tide above Ohio State.
Can Alabama slink in without playing for a conference championship? Tim Tebow is right about Alabama vis a vis Wisconsin and Ohio State but a bit of the nuance may not stand out in this excerpt:
In an appearance on First Take, Tebow said that Alabama should have Wisconsin’s spot in the College Football Playoff if the committee truly wants the four “best” teams.
“I’m not saying they should not go, I’m saying the committee’s going to say that they should go.
I’m saying they’re not one of the four best teams. If you’re telling me that it’s the four best teams – it can’t be ‘who’s the most deserving,’ ‘undefeated,’ it has to be the four best teams.
And you and me both know if right here in the Mercedes-Benz dome, if Alabama played Wisconsin they would probably beat the brakes off of them.
And so when you say the four best teams, don’t say ‘undefeated.’ Don’t say ‘deserving.’ Don’t say ‘strength of schedule.’ Don’t say ‘strength of record.’ Because it’s not the four best.
…. That’s where I get a problem is they say ‘four best,’ but Wisconsin’s in there. And they’re just not [one of the four best]. You look at film and they’re not one of the four best teams.”
I agree. If Wisconsin becomes an undefeated Big Ten champion they have survived the selection process and are surely one of the four most deserving teams.
As to Ohio State, if they utterly crush Wisconsin then maybe they belong. But they humiliated themselves last year in a 31-0 loss to eventual champion Clemson so I would not be in a hurry to send them back.
And if Auburn loses a thriller to Georgia I would hate to see Alabama sent instead of Auburn since Auburn just beat them. Then again, sending three-loss Auburn would spark a mini-riot. Hmm, maybe Ohio State emerges from that dogpile as a compromise pick.
So many scenarios!
That sounds as much fun as scoring the tax bill. I liked it better when a bunch of different groups voted their own "Champs" and several sets of alumni got big heads all at once.

What does Tim know about football? He's a damn baseball player:)
And brought joy to this honorary Gator's heart for 2 years. I even got to watch him play for St. Augustine Nease when he was being home schooled. In Florida, you can home school and still let your kids play the nearest high school sports teams.

So, henry, lets bring back "the POTUS decides" way of proclaiming the national Championship, like Nixon did for Texas:)
Especially, if its between a blue state (USC) v. a red state (Auburn) and Trump gets to choose.
Posted by: Jim Eagle | December 02, 2017 at 12:44 PM
USC will be going to the Chik Fil A/Pop Tart Bowl so what do I care?
If there were a playoff or some other more objective metric, that would be okay, but when you get a year like this it's more like medieval physicians reading the turds of the king.

A commenter at BJG makes some of the same points being made here from time to time. It all makes sense ... but in the end, people like us just don't know what's going on behind the scenes.
"1) Mueller got Flynn to take the charge (with probably no jail time) in exchange for help prosecuting an unnamed person (presumably a bigger fish).
2) Flynn was Obama’s head of the DIA for 2 years.
3) Flynn was Trump’s National Security Advisor for 3 weeks.
4) Obama and Flynn reportedly despised each other.
5) Flynn and Trump were reportedly mutually respectful and cordial to one another.
6) Flynn is a career military guy.
7) The Obama Administration was openly hostile and disrespectful to the military.
8) Trump has great respect for the military, and has surrounded himself with Generals.
Now, ask yourselves … who does Flynn have more dirt on? And which administration is (was) the bigger fish part of?"

"You sure Justice is still blind? The Benghazi mastermind gets off on murder charges. Kate Steinle’s killer gets off on both murder and involuntary manslaughter. BUT, talking to Russians is a political crime worth both a Special Counsel, millions of dollars in investigative time, and the media’s entire attention span?
All while taking millions from the Russians in speaking fees while signing off on the sale of our nuclear fuel is A-Okay and hardly moves the investigative needle. But don’t worry folks “justice is blind.” Blind to Democrats."

i agree with much of McCarthy's analysis in Kev's 1.47 link. (And note, especially, that an honest media would have been shining the spotlight on the Obama administration's disgraceful efforts to use the transition period to cripple the incoming administration via both the anti-Israel UN resolution AND the premature Russia sanctions).
However, his opinion that Flynn spoke voluntarily to the FBI out of stupidity makes no sense, given what we know of the man. Something else explains it, imo.

Does anyone know with the Tax Bill if the changes will make it easy enough for an individual like myself to be able to do my Income Taxes by myself, without need of a CPA or Tax Attorney?
I had done my Taxes for 40+ years until I was confronted with "The Kiddie Tax," an incomprehensible set of rules dealing with my daughters in college while working part time jobs. That frustrating incomprehensibility forced me to go to the CPA.
I would love, love, love it for the TAX forms to once again be comprehensible and doable by an average citizen of reasonable intelligence who can read.

I remember last year coming out of lurkerhood I posted at length about magnesium supplementation and the benefits of doing so consistently.
Now it's been 19 months and the benefits make up a healthy list.
I didn't stop with me.
I'm helping my sisters with supplementing their diets and their childrens'.
More importantly, they are supplementing the grands' and the great grands' diets in the Vitamin D, magnesium, and niacin areas.
Niacin fortifies the kids against the onset of anxious depression syndrome.
Magnesium is especially good fortification against "attention deficits."
There is a lot of bad behavior that is connected to bad nutrition.
My sister had two teenagers that were taking anti-depressants and smoking weed chronically a year ago.
They've been following the same supplement regimen as me (dosage appropriate). They have stopped smoking weed and are off the anti-depressants.
They have energy. Their grades have improved. They find school interesting. Their TV consumption has dropped by half. Their interest in "hanging out" has decreased.
They are reading more because they can remember what they read on a page. One of the things they hated about reading was getting to the end of a page and not remembering what they'd read.
Speaking of bad behavior and the connection to bad food and water and lack of nutrients in foods.
The same can be said for the syndromes of poverty, welfarism, jailism, youth studding and breeding compulsions, the kind of low self-esteem that leads to teen prostitution, narcotics dependency, and hyper-violence tendencies.
Take a tour of a ghetto, barrio, reservation and check out the mainstream food supplies in those areas. There is a connection to the bodies dropping, the disease rates, and the high school dropout rates with the foods and water supplies.
It's odd that if one advocates for clean water, better food and vitamin supplementation that the advocate will be threatened with jail time for "making health claims", the stuff that's the domain of conventional doctoring and big Pharma.
Funny. I've never heard of anybody being hospitalized for overdosing or experiencing side effects for taking proper dosages of vitamin supplements, or drinking water that contains accessible oxygen in it without any disease signatures such as strep, staph, e coli, and flouride.

So now we find that Mueller's star witness was called out for lying to Pence and being fired for it.
Hmmmmm...doesn't fit the narrative, does it?

https://pjmedia.com/trending/dont-be-fooled-the-left-doesnt-care-about-morals-it-cares-about-power/
We are not living in a time of spiritual or moral awakenings. We are living in a time of cultural and political war. Morality is a weapon in the struggle, used by the Left to attack or defend. If it works for them to puff up their own legitimacy and “reputation” as do-gooders and cultural saints, then they’ll use it. If it works to beat up on their opponents who are making political decisions no different than voters have made throughout the course of American history on both sides of the aisle, then they’ll don the armor of morality and take aim...
The worst thing any conservative can do today, in any situation that is politically motivated on any level, is to think the issues before them are just about maintaining one’s own reputation or simply standing for “principles” without an eye to the battle. If you’re willing to abandon those who are in the political and cultural foxhole with you because you’re afraid to lose your personal moral authority (or the moral authority of a political party) due to labels manufactured by the Left, you’ve already lost your moral authority.
