FISA -imho ain't gonna happen, daddy. We might get to know whose signature was on the application.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

https://saraacarter.com/2017/12/04/fbi-supervisor-removed-from-special-counsels-office-had-interviewed-michael-flynn/

This caught my eye:

McCabe told Flynn “some agents were heading over (to the White House) but Flynn thought it was part of the routine work the FBI had been doing and said they would be cleared at the gate,” the source said.

“It wasn’t until after they were already in (Flynn’s) office that he realized he was being formerly interviewed. He didn’t have an attorney with him,” they added.

cathyf

JiB -- that's actually the main point of the calculator. (I'm very familiar with this because last year our itemized deductions came out to be $17 less than the standard deduction, so for the first time in a quarter century we didn't itemize. That's what happens when you are po' folk!)

BlueOx

JiB,

We currently itemize. The new standard exemption will be higher than our itemized deduction total - even with the SALT deduction loss.

We don't have medical expense deductions and after refinancing our mortgage (going from a 30yr in the 5's to a 15yr @ 2.75), our home interest deduction hasn't amounted to much.

I'm not seeing what the calculator is missing...

Old Lurker

Calculator is meaningless (for me) until they explain the AMT and the fine print on what LLC income qualifies for the reduced rate.

So pins and needles for taxpayers like me.

34) January 26th, 2017 - Sally Yates (per her congressional testimony in May) informs White House Counsel that Flynn is now vulnerable to Russian blackmail because he lied to the FBI and to Pence about the contents of the call.

37) "We weren’t the only ones that knew all of this, that the Russians also knew about what General Flynn had done and the Russians also knew that General Flynn had misled the vice president and others,” Yates said.

So we know for a fact that the bad guys somehow knew Flynn lied to the FBI but via the WaPo we absolutely know because the WaPo told us via these same sources that none of the bad guys knew about Strzok and his affair with Lisa Page, or about any of their inter office text messaging damning Trump which would have been wonderful blackmail material.

Old Lurker

But my kids are real excited if the death tax exclusion gets doubled or better yet if the whole thing goes away.

Since it's Christmas cookie season, here's a fun article about the history of cookie cutters, along with some representative prices, in case you have some old ones from parents' or grandparents' kitchens.

Old Lurker

Did you know today is National Cookie Day?

Clarice Feldman

I hope you aren't asking me which legal opinionator I prefer--Dershowitz or the former NJ municpal magistrate? This is all such merde I can't believe Mueller hasn't packed his bags yet or Sessions given him the boot.

Porchlight

There you have it MM. The Circa News story is Hannity's tick tock (for today).

Flynn was interviewed without an attorney because he was ambushed.

And who was one of the two FBI agents conducting the interview? Peter Strzok.

https://www.hannity.com/alternate/amp/2017-12-04-exclusive-fbi-supervisor-booted-from-mueller-probe-interviewed-mike-flynn/

Old Lurker

"Man, am I glad I'm not 19 all over again and having to go through college groupthink, version 2017."

Ditto that! Plus back then I couldn't get a date; today I'd probably fear jail for ex post facto rape.

Tough, tough choice.

If you want a legal opinion you might wanna call the other guy.

Thanks for the cookie cutter link, MM. I've been researching Springerle cookies because my niece brought me a lovely mold from Germany. There is actually a Facebook page of Springerle bakers who share recipes, where to buy molds, etc.

I have several of my g.grandmother's cookie cutters - they are tin with the red wooden knob handles.

daddy

Via BlueOx's Tac Calculator, under the House Plan I'd save $9,000 and under the Senate plan I'd save $18,000. I want what's best for America overall, but am happy to see both those numbers in regards to me personally.

Thats for the link Ox!

Well that's an interesting piece of the puzzle. So Flynn did not choose to not have a Lawyer with him---it was orchestrated by "Dirty Cop" Strzok so that Flynn would not have the opportunity to have a Lawyer with him.

Back up here, a minute... Does this mean that the Russians have both the FBI and the vice president bugged? And that the FBI knows it?!?
Miss Marple the Deplorable

Just saw the video of the President's appearance at the Utah statehouse.

Orrin Hatch introduced him, with many compliments.

Then President Trump got up and began by saying that he hoped Orrin "would be in the Senate for a long, long time", turned to him and pointed and nodded.

I think that spells the end of Romney's ambitions as a Utah senator.

jimmyk

I suspect we'll lose out under either plan, but by an amount that's dwarfed by what we've gained in the stock market, even supposing it costs us this much every year for the next 10 years. Of course if the market crashes anyway....

Jim Eagle

CathyF,

Hell yes. When I was in DC. we had a special anti-eavesdropping device pointed toward the Russian embassy up the hill from Georgetown. They were listening on everything not carpmented. Clarice can clarify since my memory is more distant.

Davod

So. We go from Comey's Flynn mis remembered to Yates Flynn lied.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Those are beautiful springerle molds but way beyond my reach, Porchlight.

Nice to know they are being made, though!

Clarice Feldman

Yes, JiB, we did--and now that the Russians have moved furhter north into new digs, every apt bldg roof near the new Embassy is covered with objects pointed at it and obviously geared for eavesdropping.

Ann Coulter right now on Howie Carr:

CNN seems to have some info we haven't discussed.

Washington (CNN)A former top counterintelligence expert at the FBI, now at the center of a political uproar for exchanging private messages that appeared to mock President Donald Trump [did we know that was the gist of the texts?], changed a key phrase in former FBI Director James Comey's description of how former secretary of state Hillary Clinton handled classified information, according to US officials familiar with the matter.

Electronic records show Peter Strzok, who led the investigation of Hillary Clinton's private email server as the No. 2 official in the counterintelligence division, changed Comey's earlier draft language describing Clinton's actions as "grossly negligent" to "extremely careless," [Comey's beard?] the source said.

http://www.cnn.com/2017/12/04/politics/peter-strzok-james-comey/index.html

Old Lurker

Clarice, F'them at the FBI for doing that. And doing it to a three star would be expected to push all of his duty-honor buttons just as it did.

We regular guys would have said "get out of my office until Clarice gets here to tell you officially to get out of my office..."

Dave (in MA)

BlueOx, maybe Coulter spent the past several days baking cookies for National Cookie Day.

daddy

Does this mean that the Russians have both the FBI and the vice president bugged? And that the FBI knows it?!?

Good question Cathy, if we use the same logic the Left has been using against the good guys.

Old Lurker

Ext, I recall reading that that particular change in phrase made some significant change in whether it would be prosecuted or not. A lawyer will know...

Old Lurker

Naw, Coulter plays dumb like that so she can then pretend to recover instantly and sound brilliant. She probably had read everything written about it.

Jim Eagle

daddy & cathyf,

In this world of cybernetics, electronic reach and digital intelligence, you have to assume everything is picked up by us and Russkies except those which are securely compartentalized. And even those may be penetrated. Who knows.

But my money is that the ChiComs and Russians and especially the Israelis know everything including what tie Trump will wear that day:)

Old Lurker

I call BS on Clarice. I looked it up: Phlegmatic people are meek, submissive introverts who live to please others.

Raise your hand if you have ever thought that applies to her.

Seriously, Clarice. I suspect you and your husband are both angry as hell because you worked in this town and with people on both sides who knew where the lines were and would never have crossed them in a million years. So more than most, you know what has been lost.

Well IANAL, but I know, too. Gross negligence is grounds for serious prosecution regarding many crimes. Extreme carelessness is not a term ever used in the statutes, as Strzok and Comey know.

How come we only have that one pic of Strzok with Mueller? Nobody thought the guy was important enough to photograph by himself?

Let's see some info on this dude. His Wikipedia page seems to have been cobbled together recently. Not even a pic of the guy, or any notes on education, family, etc.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Strzok

Old Lurker

Jack "And even those may be penetrated. Who knows."

I read a really really bad trash novel where the senior staff of a Sec State would actually copy top secret information off an air gapped secure government network so that it could be faxed over a copper phone line to the Secretary, and then they stored it, unencrypted, on the laptop of a child porn guy for insurance!

Can you believe an arthur would think readers are dumb enough to think that could ever happen?

Extraneus

Here's from that same CNN link, OL.

The shift from "grossly negligent" to "extremely careless," which may appear pedestrian at first glance, reflected a decision by the FBI that could have had potentially significant legal implications, as the federal law governing the mishandling of classified material establishes criminal penalties for "gross negligence."

Whoever Pamela Brown is, she's apparently an actual reporter. That whole piece is worth reading.

DebinGA

CNN on Peter Strzok changing Comey's HC server handling report to benefit HC:
"The shift from "grossly negligent" to "extremely careless," which may appear pedestrian at first glance, reflected a decision by the FBI that could have had potentially significant legal implications, as the federal law governing the mishandling of classified material establishes criminal penalties for "gross negligence."

Why was Strzok given so much power? Lead in HC's server investigation, lead in Clinton Foundation investigation, lead in Flynn sandbag, likely lead in FISA shenans and dirty dossier peddling imo.

DebinGA

Oops, sorry y'all. I type slowly and missed seeing the posts above mine.

Old Lurker

That's it, Ext, plus when I saw it awhile back, IIRC it went on to say that the DoJ will almost always prosecute Gross Negligence with Classified Material to the hilt because precedence.

Porchlight

Those are beautiful springerle molds but way beyond my reach, Porchlight.

I believe that was Clarice who posted the link, but as a matter of fact I got obsessed with springerle molds last Christmas and purchased one from a House on the Hill vendor called Gingerhaus. It's a detailed Nativity scene and we had pretty good success with it last Christmas.

I also got some smaller molds from an independent seller on etsy.

Ghoulter is probably banging Ross.

cathyf

Ok, guys, that's not the logical flaw that I'm dealing with here... The only way that the Russians could BLACKMAIL Flynn with any discrepancies between what he told Pence & the FBI and what actually happened is if the Russians had successfully bugged both Pence & FBI AND the FBI knew AND Flynn didn't know that the FBI knew.

Blackmail is all about keeping secrets in exchange for something of value. If it's not a secret, blackmail is impossible, and the notion that Flynn could be blackmailed is ludicrous.

Meant to add that Lisa's daddy has disabled his account since his daughter has been exposed.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Old Lurker,

I would like to see Strzok's bank account with a record of deposits and dates.

I would also like to see if he got any government bonuses.

Where's his house? How big is it? Who holds the mortgage? What's his wife's job? Did SHE get any unaccountable deposits in her account?

You cannot convince me that this Strzok guy just did this stuff out of blind loyalty to the Clintons and/or Obama. Either he has been paid off, or he has someone who hholds something over him.

Old Lurker

And this is your logical flaw, Cathy: "is if the Russians had successfully bugged both..."

What if the Clintons and Obama were already up to their eyeballs in collusion and rackets with the Russians and were in the habit of sharing gossip with their gang members all along. What if no bug at all was required to get inside the crime circles in DC?

Just sayin...(as they say)

Clarice Feldman

The more scatalogical molds often involved strewelpeter--

Right, OL when Howard and I first worked in DC the DOJ was full of the most upright, competent people--many of whom had been barred from the big firms because they were Jewish--then after serving in WWII, they went to Justice. They had more talent in one bldg than all of the shite shoe firms had. During the Carter years it began to devolve and is now largely a collection of the bottom of the barrel.

Jim Eagle

jimmk,

We are in the City weekend of 15-17. Staying at The Frederick in TriBeCa. Having dinner the 15th at the Odeon (for old times sake:).

Will be in midtown for the tree, window viewing etc. on the 16th. If you want to get together we always go to the Oyster Bar at GC for lunch.

Old Lurker

Clarice, when my Dad got out of law school circa 50 or 52, a few years spent in the right office in the DoJ was a high honor and path up the ladder.

cathyf

Right -- but that means that the FBI on their fainting couch "he could be blackmailed" is all projection. The only way that the FBI could know these things that they are claiming make Flynn blackmailable is that the FBI has been doing things that make THEM susceptible to blackmail.

(...which makes you wonder...)

jimmyk on iPhone

Ouch, JiB, that's exactly when I'm out of town visiting my parents on the occasion of my father's 96th birthday. We'll have to get together another time.

Old Lurker

Not quite, Cathy. Projection is placing onto another faults you have yourself. Back at that time in the transition Deep State just wanted to damage and deny Trump at every turn. Any top person who could be taken down was a win for them. Just claiming Flynn talks to Russians wouldn't do it, but whispering he might be blackmailed by the Russians could indeed get him fired. And Trump embarrassed to boot. Win-Win.

Momto2

Trying to follow just this one story (Strzok/Page/etc.) and it has so many twists and connections and potential dirty players that I cannot keep it all straight.

It's like a ball of yarn that my cats have unwound all around the room!

Someone on Twitter (sorry I didn't save it) said that Lisa Page now works with Feinstein on the Intelligence Committee. Could that be true?

Wait. Do you think ...

 narcisoyea

Actually it all makes sense, now, how the the travismockashan came to be.

Threadkiller

Anyone else remember when the afterbirthers told us to trust the FBI and the DOJ?

I do.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Momto2,

Of course it's possible, as we have seen with Strzok showing up at every point of trouble in this whole matter.

Why not get her into the Intelligence Committee and feed Feinstein whatever information they deem "helpful" to the cause.

Feinstein used to be sharper than she is now, and her getting ol'Lisa in that position probably seemed like a good idea since she was so familiar with everything and had FBI connections.

If Lisa is there now, it is NOT a good look for Feinstein. We will see.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Threadkiller,

My list of people that I trust in government has grown very short, and I believe besides Trump and Pence, it only includes a few cabinet members.

This is an interesting read:

While working with General Michael Flynn on The Field of Fight, I interviewed many of his former colleagues in order to better understand my co-author. Virtually all of them described a man who cared deeply about the truth and presented it in circumstances that were certainly not favorable to him. These people portrayed General Flynn as a compulsive truth-teller.
