The unexpected protests about a flailing economy are now overshadowed by annual pro-government protests.
Worth keeping in mind - this will almost surely be an internal Iranian affair and the West has few levers to pull or buttons to push. However! The Washington establishment and specifically The Resistance will only exert themselves on behalf of the protestors if a credit for a transition to a calmer, free-er, more market-oriented, less militaristic Iranian government can go to Obama/Clinton rather than Trump.
This suggests that Trump has to find a, hmm, less-often displayed side of himself and remember the wisdom of Ronald Reagan (sounding eerily Trumanesque):
“There is no limit to the amount of good you can do if you don't care who gets the credit.”

Saw a tweet this morning with a vid of Lindsey Graham connecting the dots (almost) on the dossier, the FISA, and it being very bad if this is the "new normal" so a SC is needed to look into FBI/DOJ malfeasance. I guess he saw new evidence from the OIG.

Texas Liberty Gal,
Thank you so much for your kind words at the end of the previous thread.
I am up earlier than I think everyone except anonamom and Gentlejim, but unlike them, I have no work demanding my time, so it is something I can do here to feel productive.
I do wonder why Twitter was very odd this morning. I have never had it freeze on me like that. Maybe just a glitch in their servers, but it did raise my suspicions a little.

In the past in Iran, when there are protests the government simply closes off the protest areas to the rest of the public. Sometimes 2 blocks becomes 4 blocks and so on.
The purpose is to make sure most people can't see them.

.BACK!
And to peace and quiet.
Have you any idea what bedlam ensues when grandparents spend the holidays with their kids and a 3 year old and twin 1 year olds? It was wonderful of course but we did miss hosting our own traditional Christmas at our house. Oh well...natural course of things and all that.
I have lurked whenever I could find a quiet corner and have only three observations:
1. Glasater posted a wonderful picture of a guy in a red jacket sitting on a rock outcropping which would indeed be my avatar for Ledge Sitting if I ever saw one.
2. You guys were too tough on Ext for expressing caution about over interpreting what we know-know from what we think we know about various matters related to the coup. Personally I agree with everyone that we know what they were doing...but the bad guys have too many lawyers to just assume that some of them will not skate on the legal nuances on words like "Insurance" and "Andy's". Lucy's football comes to mind, and we at JOM have been known to assume good news about outcomes that never come to be.
3. RG laid out an extensive roadmap of what he and we all hope, hope, hope is going on behind the curtain to get the bad guys. Observation: I wonder why the focus lately is seemingly just on the DoJ and FBI and we do not hear much about the Clappers, Brennans, the use of the Brit's Intelligence guys wink, wink, the "17 Intel Agencies all agree...", and all those dudes in khaki pants in cubicles with earphones listening to anything they like.
Oh. And thanks for the Tax Law, Mayrose. :-)

1. Investors are noticing that a lot of the entertainment sector is not drawing eyeballs. Virtue signaling to lefties isn't a money-maker.
2. When the companies' stocks are poorly performing, there is less money to fund these BS things like "The Handmaid's Tale". The need to make money is going to produce more mainstream productions.

That Lindsey Graham thing is interesting, but...
From my viewing, I am worried that Graham is speaking very carefully with the hope that we will hear something he is not willing to say.
As to why he is not willing to say outright that the DoJ used the Steele dossier to get a warrant (FISA or otherwise), I don't know. Maybe because he hasn't quite seen that evidence, or maybe he has seen the evidence but his Senatorial oversight duties don't allow him to disclose that.
Troubling.
FWIW, Paul Mirengoff at Powerline notes the careful wording and is careful himself:
Well, I can see another interpretation - Graham *might* be offering a general exhortation for DoJ transparency with the courts and does not yet know for certain (one way or another) whether they were candid in seeking FISA warrants (if in fact they did).
IOW, Graham remains troubled because he can't get clarity from DoJ and is worried judges didn't either, not because he knows for a fact how they used the Steele dossier.
That said, I want to believe.
Posted by: Tom Maguire | December 30, 2017 at 10:51 AM
Miss Lindsay implies he knows what's in the FISA warrant application, and Sundance puts a good timeline together, no doubt.
What's the crime?
Posted by: Extraneus | December 30, 2017 at 10:52 AM
Maybe the DOJ/FBI has a tame judge n the FISA court. which maybe why one application was rejected but the second approved - different judges.

Thanks for the 10:51 TM. Somebody is hiding something big.

is there a greater aggregator of fake news than memorandum?
Drudge accepts that challenge.
Posted by: Captain Hate | December 30, 2017 at 10:57 AM
Absolutely, Davod. Isn't the suspicion that the same judge who approved the warrant was the one to take Flynn's guilty plea and then recuse himself from the case? I don't think that's been backed up by evidence but I might have missed it. I do think we know the judge served on the FISA court in the timeframe of interest.
Posted by: Extraneus | December 30, 2017 at 10:58 AM
As mentioned before - it would be hard to believe this is the first and only time this rouge group presented less than credible evidence to the FISC, the purpose of which to reverse target their domestic political opponents.
Probably about 99.9% chance they have. And 100% chance Trump knows all the details.
Posted by: danoso | December 30, 2017 at 11:00 AM

1. The "Resistance" already makes common cause with our enemies so even if Trump didn’t exist they would not exert themselves at all for the Iranian people. This is especially true since their putative leader Barry, long ago chose sides and he chose the mullahs.
2. What possible good could that plague of Judases do if they did support the Iranian people? They would invariably pay them lip service then stab them in the back when they most needed support.
The only chance the Iranian people have is if the "Resistance" takes no interest in them whatsoever.

The problem the "we don't know if the dossier was used" argument has is a year and a half later there is still no evidence that there is anything else they could have used and we do seem to know for a fact the eff-ups who would have been the ones applying for a FISA warrant clung to that dossier as their Trump Rosetta stone.
The chance whatever they used was not knowingly false and misled the court is vanishingly small and since the dossier appears to be the only thing that could have backed up whatever they presented to the court it's getting pretty hard to consider any other possibilities.

Trump has the power to publish a FISA warrant.
That's the interesting thing, isn't it? He knows the details but hasn't let them out. All the stonewalling from DoJ and FBI could be handled in an instant, and anyone resisting could be fired for insubordination. Yet, we're still in the dark about the evidence that Trump and Sessions obviously have.

MM,
Nicolae Ceaușescu did exactly the same thing. He organized a giant rally--and the crowd overthrew him.
The armed forces joined in, and that turned the tables.
We stood in that square and listened to a gentleman who was 15 when it happened and was wounded along side his buddy who had his head blown off. About 1200 killed in the fish/barrel situation, but that was the end of it all.
I had our fave snapshot of the fearless leader and his evil wife mid-fall on my phone and never passed up an opportunity to show it to the locals we were traveling with. They were all happy to see it and remark that the evil wife got many more bullets than he did.

The most interesting question for me remains, How many Trumpists actually believe the president’s false boasts at face value, and how many cynically dismiss it as just Trump being Trump? Seems an important faultline. http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/455008/trump-health-care-yuval-levin …

For too long, the Iranian people have been oppressed by their government, which cares more about sowing instability abroad than its own citizens. The U.S. stands with the brave protesters who yearn for freedom, peace, and an end to corruption in Iran.

Why the lack of coverage of the Iranian protests by CNN and the networks?
My theory is that Obama sent word to avoid it, hoping that regime change will fail. Why?
I am convinced he and Hillary are afraid of what documents are in the Iranian government's hands, which would then fall into the hands of the pro-US factions in Iran.
I am serious. CNN has even offered the excuse that "Americans aren't interested in international news." I saw that by one of their reporters on Twitter.
I haven't forgotten how they sided with Iraq before the Gulf War. They are terrible people.

Speaking of miscreants' docs falling into the wrong hands, CTH links to a doozy today - a September 2016 BOzo National Security Division filing to the FISA court admitting they'd been covertly surveilling Americans (BOzo "enemies") since 2010 - without FISA sanction if I read it right, which is no sure thing.

This is good - https://spectator.org/the-prince-and-the-community-organizer/
" For a self-described community organizer, full of the anti-colonial dreams of his father, Obama seems to enjoy inordinately rubbing shoulders with monarchs and princes. The BBC this week hailed his embarrassingly empty chat with Prince Harry as his first post-presidential interview (it was actually conducted last September but released only on Tuesday). The interview allowed two vapid liberals to wallow in their privilege while babbling about a world without privilege. Nothing phrases like “platforms of change” tumbled forth as they both longed for greater egalitarianism. The prince and the community organizer agreed that they are both “passionate” about helping paupers."...

William of Occam would argue it's because he prefers the mullahs to the people.

I still think Dinesh D'Souza was closest to what motivates Barry. Yeah he's a sanctimonious leftist but as his self indulgent even if not self written book makes clear he's got big time daddy issues. And who was daddy but an oppressed colonized African, ground down by that Churchill guy [explains the peculiar slap in the bust].
He's a knee jerk anti-colonialist to the point he will support any homegrown tyrant so long as he is hostile to the ultimate evil in the world; Western colonial powers, including the US.
Combine that with Shelby Steele's illuminating reflections on Barry's struggle with his detested cracker half and we have what CH always decries; a country that elected a mental case who used the presidency to try and work out his personal demons [unsuccessfully] for eight years.

Here's to the Trump and Netanyahu Administrations (and perhaps the Saudis, too) if they can pull off assisting in the toppling the mullah regime in Iran. Quite a bold move. Spontaneous protests? There may be an element of that, but this looks to be planned. Clearly whatever help the opposition is getting from outside needs to be kept under wraps.

Boy, am I enjoying my Apple TV 4K (HDR). By just keeping the basic Opitmum account in Southampton, I can get all the BPL, College and Pro games plus Netflix, news and other shows both there and here in Florida.
The threat to cable companies must be significant as people drop their large bundle accounts and install Apple TV, Roku and/or Fire.
