Tomorrow is Mrs. Buckeye's birthday and she has requested linguine with clams, scallops and shrimp. I think I will add lobster while I am at it.

Is it too late to suggest some blue crab backfin meat?

I was wondering if Dave Weigel was the same guy who lied about Trump having removed the bust of MLK Jr from the Oval Office? Googling shows me it was not That prep was Zeke Miller of TIME mag.

But what noticed in that previous incident from Sarah Huckabee Sanders:

Tweeting again: wh aide confirms the MLK bust is still there. I looked for it in the oval 2x & didn't see it. My apologies to my colleagues

I don't think Team Trump is interested anymore in accepting Media apologies, nor should they be, since even the apologies are dishonest.

Zeke came to the ap from time magazine but started at buzzards feed.

If memory serves me correctly, Dave Weigel was quoted here by the afterbirthers for some of the fine work he did when is came to trusting Obama's narrative.

Unconditional surrender from those assholes or nothing; along with an admission that the founding fathers recognized those jackholes were nothing but gossipy pamphleteers that deserved no more protection from the repercussions of their traitorous actions than the state wouldn't hang them.

Thanks, Clarice!

If this don't make you thirsty, nothing will:)

And I also think a Milwaukee gal will appreciate the caption under this pic of Green River's famous SweetWater Brewery Building:

The Brewery is for real, it was the first Brewery in
Wyoming and in 1907 was so popular that
they produced 18,000 bottles a day ! Their slogan
was "the beer that made Milwaukee jealous"

Six women have accused a federal appeals court judge of sexual misconduct, according to The Washington Post. Alex Kozinski serves on the Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit and was formerly that court's chief judge.

Heidi Bond, who clerked for Kozinski in 2006 and 2007, said he called her into his office and showed her pornography on his computer. He asked her if she thought the images were "photoshopped." He asked her if they turned her on.

Bond, who now authors romance novels under the name Courtney Milan

My guess is the Judge showed her one of her book covers.

mad jack

i dont know judge k but he must not have been very good at the sexual harassment thing if you clerked for him and then he recommended you to clerk for the Supremes and you actually never provided him any sexual favors. maybe i don't understand what sexual harassment actually is. my bad.

mad jack

nor did he apparently ask for any sexual favors. so there's that as well. if you're going to be accused of sexual harassment and chased from your job shouldn't you at least have a grope accusation thrown in to give it some cred?

I don't think Team Trump is interested anymore in accepting Media apologies

Is anyone keeping a list of all these media "mistakes"? It would be good to have handy just to shut up the Trump attackers. It's not just the lies themselves, and how many of them are widely believed, but the fact that they need to lie. They have so few actual Trump outrages that they have to make them up.

I think where I'd actually like to move the EPA is to Fairbanks Alaska.

On the plus side they wouldn't have to go far to send their "Water Purity" Swat Teams in to harass decent American Goldminers in Chicken Alaska.

And on the downside they'd have to comply with the ridiculous standards they make Fairbanks valley residents currently comply with in banning firewood to achieve their mythical Air Pollution standards. EPA Moves To Fine Alaskans For Burning Wood To Keep Warm

Shove 'em all in some abandoned barracks up there on Eieleson AFB outside Fairbanks and let them freeze their butts off in minus 50 F for 3 solid months of darkness.

Captain Hate

Tarhole, how many hours of sunlight do you presently have?

Captain,

This calculator explains it.

For Anchorage today we had sunrise at 10 AM, Sunset at 03:41 PM, with dawn light beginning at 9 AM and total dark at 04:41 PM.

Up in the EPA's new home of Fairbanks, it'd be:

10:36 AM to 02:49 PM, with the twilights about an hour and a half before and after.

And if you plug in Barrow, way up North, you can see they never have any sunrise/sunset, just a twilight from below the horizon, starting about 11:30 AM and disappearing to total darkness at 03:04 PM.

daddy

Wow, minus fifty for three months of darkness.

JimNorCal,

It's not anywhere near that rugged and dismal here in Anchorage, which is why we don't want the EPA here, we need them relocated way up north in the boonies where it gets seriously cold. Here in Anchorage they could do serious damage, since many of them would fall in love with the place and elect even more Democrats, but way up north it's more like prison and there's many more "cabin fever murders," so we've got to be strong about this and make sure that Trump sends them up into the frigid wastelands of Polar Bears and killer mosquitoes.

daddy

You jet away to Hawaii and France and stuff, but I marvel at your wife.

Concur. Momma is amazing. Retirement for me may wind up being a bitch:)

And right on cue we get this bit of idiocracy from the WaPo: Hillary, please don’t reject romance novels — you are a romance novel heroine

— a woman is trapped any time she lets someone else define her. And no one understands this better than you. I think that’s why you have such an extraordinary record of fighting for women’s causes. It’s only by expanding our views of what women desire, what women are and could be, that our freedom is gradually secured.

Romance novels are about wholeness and the right of readers (and all women) to be accepted and loved for who they are. To achieve. To be heard. To be imperfect. To get back up on their feet after they’ve been knocked down.

During your legendary Wellesley College commencement speech in 1969, you looked into an unknown future and said, “Fear is always with us but we just don’t have time for it. Not now.” You headed forward fearlessly and achieved so many of your dreams, including love, marriage and family.

This is why I consider you an honorary romance heroine — no pedestal required, just a pantsuit.

This may be my favorite Romance Novel starring Hillary as heroine:

but I am open to suggestions.

Speaking of lynching Journalists, anybody know when we can piss on the grave of The Newseum?
Politico: The Newseum Deserves to Die

You know that triumphant feeling that sweeps from your brain to your toes when one of your enemies stumbles and falls into a mass of his own excrement? Such delight overwhelmed me yesterday as the Newseum—that gilded monument to journalistic vanity just a half-mile from the U.S. Capitol—hoisted its flag of surrender in the form of a press release. The Newseum owners can no longer afford to subsidize the place, they say, and are exploring plans to sell all or part of the building.

If the Newseum goes down, it will have deserved its death. Truth be told, it never deserved birth.

This night shift commentator was bored and went off to look at the new Bitcon (typo - but seems appropriate) futures contracts specifications.

The CBOE XBT futures are cash-settled contracts based on the Gemini's exchange (US) auction price for bitcoin, denominated in U.S. dollars.

Well that fits with what I said earlier - Gemini will establish the "cash" market for the CBOE contracts. The contracts start trading tomorrow.

Starting Dec. 18, the CME Bitcoin futures will be cash-settled, based on the CME CF Bitcoin Reference Rate (BRR) which serves as a once-a-day reference rate of the U.S. dollar price of bitcoin.

The CME CF Bitcoin Reference Rate (BRR) and CME CF Bitcoin Real Time Index (BRTI), a standardized reference rate and spot price index...

...Will be composed of market data from several bitcoin exchanges and trading platforms including Bitstamp (Slovenia), GDAX (US), itBit (US) and Kraken (US based, trading in Canada, EU, Japan and the US). From Wiki - Throughout 2017, the Kraken exchange has suffered from DDoS attacks and performance issues, to the point where the site has become mostly unusable.Trading volumes have declined as a result. They offer no citation to support this claim. Not at all sure if it's true.

Another site describes Kraken as a top European based exchange and offers a variety of fiat to bitcoin pairs such as JPY, EUR, GBP and USD. Volume is decent especially on the JPY BTC pair after MT Gox's collapse - with Kraken assuming the mantle in that region.

Comments on that site are disparaging of the firm. (are politics involved in besmirching exchanges?)

So, there will be two different "cash" markets for the two different futures markets.

And from what I've been reading their are different "cash" prices on the many different Bitcoin exchanges. In other words, there is already an opportunity to arbitrage the different cash markets by buying on the sheep (cheap) market and then selling on the deer (dear - pricey) market.

Beyond that there are "whales", people who bought in early enough, that they control 40-90% of each tranche of crypto-currency.

How the "whales" behave will have major influences on the market. If they continue to hold what they own, then the fewer available shares to trade will rise because of this scarcity.

Will the "whales", who might be true believers, continue to hold their positions in expectations of greater gains. If the greater gains don't materialize will they dump or just trickle out inventory.

Some are speculating that Bitcoin holders may be able to co-ordinate their actions without SEC intervention. The insider-trading rules only apply to corporations.

From now to the end of the year will be an interesting period. So will the next year.

jim nj

I just realized in researching the above that I had twenty-five tabs open in Firefox.

It kinda reminds me of my market data analysis days back at the investment firm.

Market data isn't free. You pay for access for every market your traders need. The Bitcoin exchanges will now receive fees for providing their data to the future markets. Another revenue source for them.

Clarice,

When you check in there are 2 errors in your article:

1. In paragraph 3, the quote from Walter Russell Mead is repeated.

2. In paragraph 8, I believe some words were left out, as I think what you meant to say was the claims of the Project Veritas videos being phony was pushed by Fusion GPS.

Not being nitpicky, just trying to help. It's a good article about the funding being cut. Hope it makes more people have confidence!

By the way, everyone is free to mock me, the notorious typo maker, for pointing out these glitches.

Now, since I woke at 2:30, I am going to attempt to go back to sleep.

It's going to be interesting to see how the futures trade when the "cash" market disappears from time to time.

It's way more than "interesting" when the electronic medical record goes down for maintenance, let me tell you. Why is that old lady in room 420 here again??? What meds is she on???

I am not kidding---that happens. Yes, that is a planned event, something that happens regularly. And then , of course, there are the crashes....which last even longer.

Stay healthy, my friends.

JimNorCal

I meant to note hat I attended an investment event yesterday. This was advocating purchase of raw land in Lancaster and Palmdale CA and holding it for eventual sale to developers. Naturally they spent a lot of time covering the reasons why the area would surely be expanding in a big way.

I'm sure savvy people like OL will exclaim it has ever been thus but I confess to being shocked at how much was based on govt, not private econ factors.
Stealth bomber production. Along side high speed rail LA/SF. A stop along proposed high speed rail LA/Vegas. Site for giant greenhouses for Marijuana cultivation. Solar panel "farms" for clean energy generation. Electric vehicle production and proposed plan to ban gas vehicle sales in CA.
I'm missing a few ... it was striking how govt fiat is creating winners and losers rather than actual, you know, superior products and other market forces.
Fits in with the earlier observation that formerly the high real estate values corresponded to areas that "made stuff". Today high RE prices are in places that "make rules".

Basic news on Bitcoin from Fox, courtesy of some economics professor:

Increase in price is due to everyone thinking it will go up.

Don't invest in it if you are counting on it for your retirement.

Futures market will show its true value and cause price to stabilize.

More popular in countries without stable currencies.

That was it. Pete on the show has bought some. NO mention of the coincidence that the price rise accompanied all of those guys in Saudi Arabia possibly trying to hide assets, which I thought was a very valuable comment made yesterday by jim nj.

Fox spent more time on the graphic that preceeded the segment.

The longer list would be intentional misrepresentations by the MSM. Those they won’t acknowledge. They won’t even listen to the possibility they do what they do. A friend said the MSM have bananas in their ears.

They fool themselves -- or their readers -- that criticism of their faulty reporting is an attack on journalism. No. Faulty reporting is an attack on journalism.

Good Morning,

It may have looked like white-out conditions at the game but field visibility was fine. You could even track the passes (all 3 of them), punts and PAT's and FG's.
I bet there were fewer empty seats than there would have been for an Eagles game under the same weather.

Sitting in 2 rows in front of us was Ron Jaworski. A number of people getting selfies with him but Frederick said he would wait until the half. Jaws left after the first half. Immediately behind me in the broadcast booth was John Feinstein and the guys bringing the radio play by play.

The great thing about the Panasonic Club is the huge food and drinks court with seating and tables. But boy was it packed and doing land grab business. The line up for the Philly Cheesesteak station was a mile long:)

Looks like most of the snow is gone but still cold. Leaving in a few hours for the journey back home.

BoE,

The "hook & ladder" Navy attempted went to the wrong receiver, IMO. But it was well conceived, just fell short. After Navy stopped Army who was driving early in the 4th, Army changed up their rushing attack to bring Davidson more into the game and rest Bradshaw for the big plays. It worked. Navy D tired and Army got more confidence.

But a typically hard played game.

Bravo Zulu to the ground crews who before & during the game kept the sidelines and yardage lines cleared of snow. Must have been 10 guys with leaf blowers walking those lines during every timeout. And the crowd was great from both sides. No mouthing off or nastiness but a feeling of real comradre.

No wonder it is called America's Game.
