Is Al Franken burning? He will have an announcement later today after Senate Democrats womanned up and decided his baggage was tarnishing the brand. Presumably this makes their ever-so-highly principled case against Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore of Alabama a bit more credible.
And I do love this epiphany in The Atlantic:
I Believe Franken’s Accusers Because He Groped Me, Too
The Democratic Party needs to stand with women who have been harassed—and not defend the politicians who abused them.
This is by occasional Atlantic contributor Tina Dupuy and do take a moment to deplore her implication that those who lack a personal and deplorable personal encounter with Al Franken might reasonable disbelieve these accusers. But no matter - her moment of awakening is this:
This year’s pervert purge has inspired many to look at uncomfortable truths about their heroes, their co-workers, and their values. The New York Times’s Michelle Goldberg repented of her support for Bill Clinton, writing a piece with a battering ram as a headline, “I believe Juanita.” For me, it’s been sinking in that the working white women who felt condescended to by affluent feminists voted, by significant margins, for an admitted sexual predator over the lady who’d not believe them if they were abused by someone she liked. Their choices don’t seem so ridiculous to me any longer.
Democrats sold our soul. Nothing makes that more clear than how women voted in the 2016 election.
Wow. No righty making that argument could have convinced her of the obvious, yet finally the light is shining. I wonder if she still wonders whether Trump made in effective decision in bringing various Clinton accusers to one of his debates with Hillary.
UPDATE: Franken out! And as per the old saying, hey, Al, don't let the door grope you in the ass on the way out.
He denounces Trump and the lying women who lied about him as he says good-bye:
“Some of the allegations against me are simply not true,” Mr. Franken said. “Others I remember very differently.”
He went on to say he felt confident he had represented the people of Minnesota well. “I know in my heart, nothing that I have done as a senator, nothing, has brought dishonor on this institution, and I am confident that the Ethics Committee would agree,” he said.
He also said he was “shocked” and “upset” by the harassment allegations and that in responding to the claims, he may have given people the “false impression” that he was admitting to any of the accusations. He added that he planned to continue to be a “champion” for women and would be active outside of the Senate.
Progs will take a bad circumstance and make it worse. We'll go from guilty male creeps getting away with it to different female creeps being believed when they falsely accuse the innocent.
The War on (crazy prog) Women is over. The War by (crazy prog) Women has just begun.

Franken will not resign. He will point fingers and say others are worse. (The Conyers gambut, but Franken isn't 86 and feeble). This oughta be good.
Besides, as Insty points out, if Franken resigns, both MN Senate seats will be up for grabs in 2018. Trump came close there.
Posted by: henry | December 07, 2017 at 09:40 AM
Ignatz,
Just as the prog creeps went too far in their treatment of women, thinking they were immune, so too will this bunch of suddenly awakened dem women who suddenly see how they have been treated.
I have already seen inklings of this. Pretty soon it will reach a fever pitch and then an accuser will be found to have lodged false accusations in revenge for a poor review at work or not getting a part she was obviously not suited for, and the entire controversy will collapse.

In colleges taught by TA's who don't speak English and if they do, it is communism they teach? By watching role models on TV and Movies? By watching role models among our political leaders?

My sister-in-law secretly dated then married the plant manager of her company. They kept their relationship a secret for 2 years until the plant was bought out by a Canadian company and they were both fired (along with a large percentage of the workforce.) So I'm sitting there wondering what a chick would look like with those on her car and sure enough as she pulled away I could see in her mirror [we were in the left turn lane] she was not only lily white and middle aged and square jawed and wearing those ubiquitous horned-rimmed-hag eye glass accessories, but she had those thin terse lips poised in their perpetual scowl that every one of these broads [and yes I mean to demean* her] seems to possess.
*Would that I or someone could actually de-mean these mean broads.

Speaking of JFK, last night we watched "Hidden Figures", a movie highly recommended to us by our 12 yo grandson, where vintage clips of JFK speaking of the space race with USSR appear. It's a wonderful film, but agonizing in its depiction of racism at the time.
A description: "As the United States raced against Russia to put a man in space, NASA found untapped talent in a group of African-American female mathematicians that served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in U.S. history. Based on the unbelievably true life stories of three of these women, known as "human computers", we follow these women as they quickly rose the ranks of NASA alongside many of history's greatest minds specifically tasked with calculating the momentous launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, and guaranteeing his safe return. Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson, and Katherine Johnson crossed all gender, race, and professional lines while their brilliance and desire to dream big, beyond anything ever accomplished before by the human race, firmly cemented them in U.S. history as true American heroes."

This new-found Dem morality, of course, is setting the Democratic Party up to be "the new Women's Party". Bernie will be put out to pasture with another house for his fat fugly wife and the Women's Party will prepare to battle President Trump's incumbency.
But there is a nasty swarm of flies in their ointment as I see it.
What will the new "Women's Party" do if 2020 turns out to be like walking into a tree shredder because
1) Trump lances the boil that is the Deep State and all the cash intended for their brown paper bags dries up prior to the election; and,
2) the American economy (stupid!) is humming along on its best run since the late Reagan years making the Women's Party platform *ir-fucking-relevant.
Oh, and 3) the Party of Stupid Elites (GOPe for the slow) disintegrates in the face of a Trump onslaught 2.0 which brings more true-to-life WOMEN (ass-kicking-conservative elected officials) to the national political scene who will make Kabama Harris and "y'all" look like Maxine Waters 2.0.
What will the Women's Party do then? Simmer and stamp about "Just Wait til Our Turn in 2024"?
By the way, is this new Women's Party ready to cut a deal with Fauxcahontas Warren who seems to be suffering from a bad case of "It's MY TURN-itis" just like her predecessor, Hildo the Rodhammer.
Senator Warren is a giant greasy fly in the ointment.
If WARREN ends up being the best the Women's Party can do in 2020, I'm here to say that Trump 2.0 will flatten her like a melon under tank treads.

OL on the last thread:
most of it is not "tax money" so much as "directed settlement" protection money exacted by government thugs with baseball bats in return for backing off "that nice business you got there...".
As I'm sure OL knows, it's effectively tax money--it's coerced from corporations, and more important, even if it were legit it could otherwise go to general revenues and deficit reduction.
It will be great to see these organizations fold for lack of funds, or have to go begging to their supporters.

Indeed, Jimmy. I have long advocated that ALL monetary damages derived from the use of Government force should go to, and only to, the General Fund of said government. Never to an outside group, and never to the agency that won it. If individuals want to be paid, they should pursue their own suits alone or as class actions, and if they want to "drift" behind the government case, fine, let them wait until the government winds or loses.

Protestants almost came to blows when the Progs changed the Prayer Book a couple of decades ago. A slippery slope was foreseen.
For the longest time, our summer chapel refused to use the new book. Alas they caved.
Fast forward to today, and the new "thing" in several Episcopal Churches I attend is for the Program, formerly a one pager announcing which service applied that day and where in the Prayer Book it starts, now has become a typed out 6-8 page booklet for each Sunday which is used in place of the Prayer Book and Readings.
Now why would they do that? Hmmm?

Mrs. Kid hails from the "jewel in the belly of Long Island", aka Great Neck (moved there at 3 years of age after being born in Brooklyn).
She's a dyed in the wool city chica.
Lately, the East Bay Regional Park system has been leasing lands near the roads to cattle ranchers.
That puts their herds up close and personal to the bike riders who train up in those hills each morning.
Mrs Kid's quote of the decade comes from her recent education on the bovine persuasion--- "Fuckin A bitch! Cows can really shit!"
Can't wait til the ranchers rotate some bulls into closer view of that all-female ridin' crew.
So impressionable so late in life. ;)

Narciso---> thanks for asking about my business partner.
He came out to Califas for Thanksgiving to visit his longtime gal pal. That was a good sign. The ALZ is slowing down some given what it was doing to him at the beginning of 2016.
He's gone under the care of my doctor who helped me climb out of the Type II diabetic syndrome. Same diet (no sugar, no carb, with supplementation) as me. He's responding well.
But he still signed everything over to me. My turn to run with the ball. Having fun with it. First order of business: increase the number of shares and raise some capital in order to move forward. He signed it over during his Thanksgiving visit.
Very tearful thing for him. We're just glad the progression is slowing down. Not taking any chances though.
Peace.

Are any of you aware of how many years a Congressman or Senator must serve to be fully vested in pension????
Fucking unbelievable.

Gus, 5 years per wiki

Ugh. Fake News CNN assigns 3 reporters to quote anti-Trump skier Lindsey Vonn saying she won't be representing Trump, but the country, in the February Olympics. Has there ever been a U.S. Olympian who claimed to be representing the sitting president? No.

A senator wouldn't even have to serve a complete 6 yr term? Wow.

Are you a ‘person of color’ losing an argument? Are you feeling triggered? Fret no more! Call Superwhitey!

Of course they will insist this be applied to Republicans even for the most absurd and unsubstantiated charges, which is the whole point.
Good luck with that happening. That sounds like something as neutron star dense that RNC Top Men come up with.

CH---> Mrs. Kid can curse in 5 languages. She can also write marketing plans in those same five languages. ;)

Kev, is there a difference?

Maybe Miss Vonn can go represent Tiger since he's been such a fine role model.

Jimmy, I like to imagine what that meeting was like. Dementia ridden corrupt democrats who don't give a shit about the abuse but are determined to find the bright side. Hours later someone jumps up and screeches: "ZERO TOLERANCE" that's the ticket! Frankly I don't think it will work under Trump.

I don't have enough data points, Kev!! :)

Iirc open-primary Alabama voters who chose Moore over Strange included a lot of Dems wanting to make it easy as possible for Jones to win imo. Moore's endorsement by AL Trial Lawyers Assoc is Exhibit A.

A touching comment I saw at another blog, hope I'm not infringing on privacy in posting it here.
"One of my dearest memories is when we took my wife’s Dad back to Pearl Harbor, a place he had not been since a couple days after the attack. He was on duty as the radioman in the USS Maryland radio room when the attack occurred, and stayed at his post for hours relaying messages until they were ordered to abandon ship. At that point, he related, the water in the radio room was over his knees.
When the family took him to Pearl Harbor he broke down in front of the plaque at the visitor’s center that has the Oklahoma and the Maryland on it. They had been moored together and the Oklahoma took nearly all the damage…and loss of life. As he looked at the plaque he started crying, and when one of the grandkids asked: “What’s wrong, Grandpa”, he replied: “The Oklahoma saved us…I’m alive because the Oklahoma, and all those men, died”."

Progs, progressives, liberals, libtards, lefties, socialists (have to give the group the full LGBTQQQQ treatment--not that there is anything wrong with that, and I want to be inclusive).
The entire group consists of people who are too soon old, too late smart.
