OK, high heels are sexist, warns the flailing NY Times in a guest piece. But its a Saturday morning and they are bound to deliver some laughs so man up and bear with me.
We are launched with an anecdote about the emoji for women's shoes being high heels. A compelling lead! Pressing on:
It’s been a year of reckoning for women on many fronts. In January, they led what was likely the largest protest in American history. Their stories of sexual harassment and assault have prompted a purge of powerful men in entertainment, government and media. In growing numbers, they are running for public office.
Some of them are also fighting gender discrimination with their footwear.
The struggle is real.
Ms. Hutchinson, for example, has sent a proposal to the Unicode Consortium’s emoji subcommittee, recommending that they add a ballet flat, a shoe that reads as female but not seductive or sexualized. (Ninety-two percent of people online use emoji every year; 75 percent of us want more emoji options.) She was particularly concerned about children, whose first forms of communication are pictographic and who are exposed to technology at ever-younger ages.
Well, OK then. Naturally, we are stereotypophobic. But what about this?
“I always had trouble finding shoes that were comfortable but also aesthetically what I wanted,” [comfort-shoe designer] Ms. Kim said.
She sees shoes as a means of both self-expression and self-defense. “If I know that I have to take the subway home late at night, I want to be dressed appropriately,” she said, adding that during the time she’s lived in New York, she’s been attacked twice.
“Men have no clue that this is something a lot of women think of,” she said.
Whoa! You mean a woman's fashion choices can lead to her victimization? OMG, I dare the Times to present that view at any feminist forum anywhere. Teach muggers not to mug!
As to "men have no clue", just where is the Times positioned on the 'Sweeping gender-based generalization' frontier here? Perhaps I was a young Sherlock Holmes but I noticed eons ago that many of my female colleagues in the Greatest City in the World would sneak into work in sneakers and style up once safely past sidewalk and subway grates. My goodness, I stole that trick myself and had some black sneakers that could sorta-kinda pass as dress shoes if the weather was foul during the commute. And - believe it or not - if you ask them about it, footwear is not a topic on which women are notably tight-lipped. Forewarned is forearmed!
But maybe I am the only guy in America with a mother, sister, spouse, daughter, and/or female colleagues. Maybe!
The article includes this:
As Prohibition and temperance reform swept the United States in the 1920s, high heels became a topic of legislation. A Utah bill proposed that heels higher than one and a half inches would be met with, at a minimum, a $25 to $500 fine, and possibly jail time up to one year.
Though they’re no longer punished by law for their footwear choices...
The Utah link doubles back to the Massachusetts link, which criminalized sale and manufacture, not the wearing high heels.
The Utah bill, after five minutes research, does criminalize possession as well as sale and manufacture. The bill was promoted by osteopaths and backed by women's clubs and suffragettes as a women's health issue. Believe it or not, even in the 1920's there was a realization that high heels are not great for posture. One might even say the science was settled.
But this is a different side of the Times - opposition to well-intentioned government regulation backed by women and intended to promote women's health while denying the patriarchy their eye-candy? I did not see that coming.
Since you ask, an excerpt of a non-endorsement explanation from the Arizona Republic, 1921:
Do let me add - the history of high heels as part of men's fashion is interesting (heels help horsemen, which we might have guessed). And they include kind words for Wonder Woman Gal Gadot, about whom no praise is excessive, so there's that.
I never want to miss an opportunity to impugn the non-character of the Rodham excrescence so I'm carrying this over from the last thread;
-- Clinton was smart enough to latch onto Bill and parlay a mediocre political career into a multi-million dollar empire. She dumb? Keep telling yourself that. She isn’t in jail.--
I have run into any number of stupid people outside of prison.
She, no doubt possess some measure of low animal cunning, like, say, a particularly thoughtful red toothed shrew, but I'm not inclined to include native intelligence as a characteristic of a particularly nasty little rodent with a brain the size of a pimento.
Nor is the blind dumb luck of latching onto an ambitious a-hole who through an unlikely concatenation of events became the rapist in chief any sign of brilliance anymore than any other broad who marries a guy hoping he'll steal a fortune.
Here's a test; the entire media and DNC and every major institution in the USA crowned her queen of the country and served the presidency up to her on a platter. All she had to do was have the brains not to muck it up.
Is she president?

Ext posted this excerpt from an article about the FBI and the tarmac meeting in the last thread:
A series of emails show one FBI official, whose name and email are redacted, fuming over leaks to the media about the meeting and what happened on the tarmac. The official received an email from a "layman" alleging a local Phoenix police officer who may have talked to a reporter "sounds like a security threat." Officials went back and forth about finding out if the officer was SWAT or simply worked the motorcade and that "at a minimum" he should never work another detail again. One asked if local law enforcement assisting the FBI on motorcades should sign non-disclosure agreements in the future. Another official called an Observer article about the meeting, with details about how President Clinton got to Lynch's private plane, "infuriating."
My question: why are any of the FBI agents referenced in the above paragraph still employed by the Federal Government in any capacity?

Well, I’m glad you decided to repeat your argument despite the fancy “so there” finality of your sign off.
She was clever enough to position herself as the heir apparent, but too lazy to read the mood of the country and understand how Trump, and Sanders for that matter, could happen. I don’t have to like her to recognize her ability to turn the 2008 disaster into a launching point for 2016, while making a boatload of money along the way.
You think that Obama laid all those minefields in the regulatory and law enforcement apparatus by himself?

Just a little joke.
But I still think you are crediting her with intelligence when blind luck and a certain corrupt cleverness and the legions of half wit fem Dems carrying the old creep on her shoulders to the finish line, where, like one of Monty Python's twits of the year, she reverses course, are more likely the cause.
Turning the disaster of 2008, where she was the heir apparent, into the even bigger disaster of 2016, where she was the heir apparent with booster rockets, seems to me an argument for her inevitable imbecilic breaking a fetlock at every golden opportunity her patrons and lady luck have handed the half witted, spavined old nag not her brilliance.

Daddy,
I'm about a day behind and just ran into your question on the FBI. I haven't had any dealings with the FBI, but have worked with the Secret Service, US Marshals, DEA and ATF. I've found them to be normal joes like local LEOs. I think that's the case since many of them started as local LEO or something similar. Those alphabet agencies also seem to lack the political component that the FBI has been outed as having.
Secret Service guys, VP protective detail, were just normal guys. Their bosses, who I didn't spend much time with, were a bit stiff, but likeable. My LT liaised with SS brass.
Back to catch up.

Still trying to catch up, but I want to add that these federal LEOs are lower than the worst type of criminal. They disgust me thoroughly because they've taken an oath and seem to be violating that oath on a daily basis. Your run of the mill criminal takes no such oath. I take that oath very seriously. I've given my word and as an LEO that's all I have. If my word is no good I can't/shouldn't be an LEO. I hate these people.

Yes, but they presumably have been prepped and would lie, and since there's no police investigation (the statute of limitations is always conveniently expired) there would be no way to prove otherwise. Unless the accusers went on a big shopping spree.

Also, to get back to the baby aspirin and old age discussions: I take one daily, more for the hell of it as it doesn't seem to bother me. We don't have much heart disease in my family, and my own seems pretty sound. In fact one of the reasons for my interest in the aging issue, aside from dealing with two parents in their 90s, is that people in my family seem to outlive their friends, and ultimately just deteriorate and die of "old age." I guess that's good, but it means planning ahead for needing care and companionship.

The deep state play would be delay until November 2018. Then impeach with the incoming Congress. Mueller's best play is to keep going until then, whether or not there is anything to what he is manufacturing. Schiff already gave up the purpose of the Congressional hearings, continuation is all the deep state wants. Then the DoJ IG gets to play Lucy and football with the always 3-4 months away definition of "soon." No need for a Hail Mary, it would end the delay game and possibly backfire.

Two shopping stops with reports:
1. Big Lots to pick up some odd items for the holidays, including cat toys for Edgar, bulk scotch tape, candles, and a couple of small gifts. People in there included a lot of Mexicans and Chin. Prices in that store are not as great as one would think, so we didn't buy that much.
2. Aldi's, which has a nice table Merlot for 2.89 a bottle and we bought a six-pack of German beer, brand unfamiliar, BUT it does say it was "brewed under the German purity laws of 1516" so there's that. We mainly were shopping for things we were running short on, like peanut butter, butter, etc. plus a couple of meat selections. Total was $51 which was well within our budget. Aldi's has pretty good quality but a limited selection, so we will make a trip to Kroger next week for dog food and some cleaning supplies.

So Mule Tool's strategy is to run out the clock in the hope that mid-terms favor the EmoCrats?
What do our JOM Congressional oddsmakers say at this point in regard to the GOP keeping the House? Will the Democrats be able to launder enough money to mount grassroots campaigns for the House?
Related question: Would President Trump be treading on thin ice to drop a few MOAB's on the Deep State during his upcoming State of the Onion address (late January?)?
What if POTUS was to announce the pardon of Lt. General Flynn during that SOU address, complete with reasons why the pardon was the honorable thing to do?
What would the Deep State Franfurters have to say about a weekly commentary by President Trump on the integrity of US Elections during the 11 month run-up to the mid-term elections?
Wouldn't POTUS be able to use his bully pulpit to speak to issues like voter i.d. and other issues that have to do with election integrity and to comment on the glaring absence of findings re Russian tampering given all these months of SC nose picking?
Or is it verboten to comment on an ongoing molestation, er I mean investigation.

I've discovered a new fall/winter treat: Pomegranates.
I've been buying them by the dozens. There is something very zen to peeling them say 2 in one sitting. Listen to a radio program or watch a "Blue Bloods" rerun.
Put the ruby red fruit in a cereal sized bowl and compost the husk and rinds.
We put two small sugar bowl spoons in the bowl, one for me and one for Mrs. Kid. Then, throughout the day we take servings for a little lift.
We've been getting perfect pomegranates at Safeway. Sometimes other stores, especially the Commie Farmers Market, the pomz are not very good. But this year, the rubies snap when you bite into a mouthful. The juice runs down my chin if I am a bit too zealous.
Simple pleasure in the wake of all this national hubbub and wading through spreadsheets more than I'd like to.
Pomegranate: it's what's for breakfast.

MM---> do you have a goto spray disinfectant cleaner or do you brew your own?
We get "Fabuloso", a grape-koolaid colored pinesol spray cleaner for the bathroom. Keep out of the reach of small kids. They tend to drink it.
The other one we are liking more and more is Clean Day's Lemon Verbena. Good cleaner and smells great.
Mrs. Kid's fav peanut butter is Skippy Super Chunk. I have to refrain due to alflatoxins in the peanuts (commercial storage problema).
Target and Orchard Supply Hardware (OSH) are our GoTo spots for cleaning supplies. Target offers the best specials on big jar stuff like peanut butter and these gigundous 8 pound cans of honey that Mrs Kid goes through in about 2 weeks. Eats more honey than a live bear i think.
I made Spanish rice last nite for the first time in 2 years. Even had me a few ounces with fresh made pinto beans. The highest order compliment I've ever received in life was when my Ma tasted my Spanish rice one evening at Sis' house and said "Your Spanish rice is better than mine."
Boy howdy. I'd arrived. Sauteeing the rice in onion and "dying it" in red chili sauce is the key. I thought since I'm going back to 95%+ full on raw come 1 January I'd take a culinary trip through memory lane. Still love Spanish rice. Had me a silver dollar pancake. The thrill is gone. No love lost over grill cheesed sandwich or a quesadilla. Pizza I haven't had in 19 months and can honestly say that the Pavlovian response to billboards, tv commershies, and exhaust fans on pizza street here in Berkeley is no longer a factor.
These changes have taken forever. Some will probably never slip away. Glad to know I can have a bit every now and then (a year apart). And go back to THE FOOD. Ramping back up to 95% since the surgery. Weekly increases. At 85%.
Going to be eating at Noono's two restaurants, rather I'll be spectating at those two restaurants he owns in Palm Springs. The plan is to have a coffee-rubbed rib eye on New Years Eve and a Caesar salad. No desserts. Salads most other sittings.
If you get to Palm Springs in 2018----> LuLu Bistro (Palm Springs) and Acqua (Rancho Mirage). Loads of success.
All right. out.!

My sister still watches the evening news and shows like Dr. Phil, when she has time. My brother gets his news from the union newsletter and the small news programs on his rock and roll radio station.
They are still my siblings and we have many fond memories of our childhood. I love them and I am not cutting off my connection to them, and I imagine Captain Hate feels the same way.

Yup. Thx, Kev. Interested in reading about it.

CC kk on the pomegranates. Maybe it's my flailing memory but quality and price excellent this year plus gifts from friends with trees.
Mrs NorCal has a Costco Vitamix machine (all the other ladies were buying one) so we juice the little guys. That seems to vaporize the seeds mostly.

I think I'm catching up, but you people keep posting links so I'm not sure. :)
I don't know why anyone would ever talk to LEO in an interview/interrogation setting. Miranda basically tells you to STFU. Amazing how many still have to flap their gums post Miranda even with attorneys present.
Back to slogging through links.

MM, do you have a Ruler Foods store in your area? It is a Kroger's brand that competes with Aldi. Sells lots of Kroger house brand stuff, at lower prices.

"I'll say one thing for Bannon, he brings out the worst in the left/Prog/Dem universe."
Yes, remember that lady who confronted him in an elevator, and then went to the media about how a-scared she was when his security guards gave her a mean look?

That's very kind of you, Miss Marple. Mrs. H was also employed by legacy media and has a personal loyalty which exceeds what is imo deserved. My blood relatives, sibling and cousins, are all conservative; my cousins ferociously so.

"I ask once again---How can you bear living with such a person???"
Mrs K used to default to watching CNN, which I only knew because I'd flip on the TV and it would be tuned to CNN. I think it got too much for her, plus I would gently ridicule her over it.

Still amazed the Dems nominated her.
Their bench is far worse than the Browns. This Pervnado stuff is probably the only way to clear out the dead wood.

Clarice,
I did seem to know that, I think from one of the guys I follow on Twitter.
The thing that got me was McCabe and Strzok being assigned to investigate Benghazi, and once they had done their swell job there, they have been involved in every Clinton investigation ever since.

A-mom, next time I'll marry for something other than love.
That does not answer my question. Loving somebody is one thing; living with them is totally another.
What is it like to sit across the table from somebody and listen to them spout the MSM version of reality, when you know it is so totally at odds with what is actually---factually-- the case?
Hmmm--maybe that's where the CaptainHate comes from???

Great job Kevin, we are all proud of you!
=============================
I don't know why, but this made me smile. I guess it's because we had 8 years of Obama demanding he be the sole center of attention, and here is President Trump giving public praise to a Congressman.
Excellent point Miss Marple. Good Morning!

Have to admit that having woken up and read Thomas Lifson's linked piece, followed by Sundance's linked piece, I now shift my view to being in agreement with Rocco:
I don't think the IG is leaking info, I think he's informing the congressmen investigating the matter as to his findings thus far. So far so good IMO.

Sams grandpa, was one of the leading cold warriors founder of the committee of the present danger but went all blanc mange when assigned as chief arms negotiator and ultimately endorsed bill clinton.

We generally don't talk politics; there *are* other things in life. She voted twice for Reagan so she's not completely doctrinaire.
Hmmm--maybe that's where the CaptainHate comes from???
That was given to me by someone I worked with at an electric utility. It wasn't a bum rap.

We don’t talk politics on my husband’s side of the family.
My husband, Porch, and Clarice are the ones who convinced me to get on the Trump train.
So far I think he is doing a great job. I see Corker will vote for the tax bill.
He doesn’t want his last act to be one of defiance.
And yes , I do feel bad for John McCain.
I think this is his purgatory right now.
One person shouldn’t have to suffer so much.

He suffers mostly because he is a bitter prick. Self inflicted.

More state control over the market. Plus more of the rapidly shrinking JEF legacy flushed away.

Extraneus @4:25
Sounds like Mueller wants to go one on one with the Inspector General. You've got your text messages; I've got mine. Pretty juvenile and frankly disgusting considering what's at stake.

Ex,
I am seeing 4:28 a lot even in toney Southampton in letters to the editors. People have caught up with the Eastern Establishment Elitists especially the DC-NY-Boston nexus. We have too many Afghanistan/Iraqi served veterans who are not only pissed but prepared to dook it out verbally and confrontationally with creeps like Holder.
I think the best thing Trump did was to talk back and get in the elites faces during the primary and campaign. He showed the rest of the silent ones how to take back your country and your voice. Paronto is just the most visible right now but there are others every day that are letting their "betters" know that they are not.

Or care about his opinion on anything?
Thanks for the Tweet re: Holder.
That fellow put it so well. Love retweeting the gems.

California is now considering a mileage tax on drivers which will hurt most those too poor to lice close to work and must commute. Is there any doubt that the Democrats have been trying to return us to a feudal state and the republic into a series of hereditary duchies? In the end the only way the middle class will survive under such rules is as household live in servants.'
