The WashEx has yet more on the Steele dossier, and notes this puzzle:
Knowing Steele's sources is a critical part of the congressional dossier investigation, for both sides. If one argues the document is unverified and never will be, it is critical to learn the identity of the sources to support that conclusion. If one argues the document is the whole truth, or largely true, knowing sources is equally critical.
Beyond that, there is another reason to know Steele's sources, and that is to learn not just the origin of the dossier but its place in the larger Trump-Russia affair. There is a growing belief among some congressional investigators that the Russians who provided information to Steele were using Steele to disrupt the American election as much as the Russians who distributed hacked Democratic Party emails. In some investigators' views, they are the two sides of the Trump-Russia project, both aimed at sowing chaos and discord in the American political system.
Investigators who favor this theory ask a sensible question: Is it likely that all the Russians involved in the attempt to influence the 2016 election were lying, scheming, Kremlin-linked, Putin-backed enemies of America – except the Russians who talked to Christopher Steele?
Sure, maybe there were some right-thinking Russians who favored the predictability of a Clinton regime, even though Putin loathed her. Right-thinking people everywhere backed Hillary, didn't they?

COOOOOLD today, and I think we are nowhere near the end of it. Draped my visiting mother in sheepskin coats, which helped. Sprout the Brussels griffon has been returned to store (thankfully). Saw a fox on the front lawn on Christmas, who trotted off in the guilty way foxes have when they are caught out in daylight (this was about 9 am); what I always say on such occasions is "you, sir, are a fox." Fair cop, says the fox, moseying down the road. My son saw a pair of them a few weeks ago, also in the morning, also looking guilty as hell. These all seem well-fed, if that's good (am not sure). We live in pure suburbia, not the country.

Only NOW they are wondering about the dossier source??? Shouldn't that have been step 1?
It is ridiculous.
I honestly don't know what the specific crime they are even accusing the Trump administration of. What is it?
It seems like our tax dollars are being used to just endlessly harass the Trump administration.

One obvious problem with this WashEx piece is that it assumes that "Russian" "disruption" had some sort of significant effect on the election, rather than being a fantasy promoted to bring Trump to heel. A second is that it assmes that the "Russians" who supposedly provided "Steele" with the disinformation in the dossier actually exist and were doing the bidding of Putin.

To what joan linked on the last thread, I further believe the assholes on Team Curb Dive considered Steinle's family the enemy for filing a lawsuit against San Francisco, on what I'm not sure but obviously something having to do with their sanctuary nonsense. A fundraiser for the stumbling lush was canceled because it was hosted by the attorney suing the city and you know how much that grasping shrew loves money.
So there's no doubt to me between the trash denizens of the shithole city and the ambulance chaser prosecutors considered the Steinles the enemy and between a half assed prosecution and borderline retards on the jury, the fix was in.

Catsmeat,
Came across this Jane Austen reference in a bio piece about a New Zealand General in Montgomery's 8Th Army at the Battle of Mareth in Tunisia in March 1943, and it was so unexpected I post it for your amusement: From "An Army AT Dawn)-(Atkinson) Page 426-427:
..."Am sending General Horrock's to take charge," Montgomery added in his predawn message. "Am sure you will understand."
One man who did not understand was the New Zealanders' legendary commander, Lieutenant General Bernard C Freyberg, English born but raised in New Zealand. Freyberg had been a dentist before finding his true calling as a warrior of Homeric strength and courage. Known as Tiny to his troops, he had a skull the size of a medicine ball, with a push broom mustache and legs that extended like sycamore trunks from his khaki shorts. In the Great War, he had won the Victoria Cross on the Somme, served as a pallbearer for his great friend Rupert Brooke, and emerged so seamed by shrapnel that when Churchill once persuaded him to display his wounds the count reached twenty seven. More were to come. Oarsman, boxer, swimmer of the English Channel, he had been medically retired for "aortic incompetence" in the 1930's before being summoned back to uniform. No greater heart beat in British battle dress. Churchill a month earlier had proclaimed Freyberg "the salamander of the British Empire," an accolade that raised Kiwi hackles---"What in 'ell's a salamander?"---until the happy news spread that the creature could pass through fire unharmed. "Simple as a child and as cunning as a Maori dog," Freyberg was both superstitious---he refused for example to look at a new moon through glass---and literate. In his raspy voice he enjoyed reciting Mrs Bennet's gleeful prattle in "Pride and Prejudice" upon learning that her daughter Lizzy is to marry the rich Mr Darcy: "Ten thousand a year! Oh, Lord! What will become of me? I shall go distracted."
Here's "Tiny" in action:
That Jane Austen bit tickled me, and I hope it does you as well. Where don't she pop up?
Posted by: daddy | December 27, 2017 at 10:53 PM
Yeah, boatbuilder.
I would tune out except that I want to stick up for the Trump administration.

This whole montage resembles two regrettable instances of sabotage the smoking gun, curveball had been a bnd connected asset since one of their inspectors recruited him as a source. Stephen Grey who unraveled much of the rendition program interviewed rafi alwan and siscivered much of what the late Mr. Drumheller had relayed to drogin and sid vicious was entirely wrong but the bnd which clearly was not disposed to cooperate withheld any communications
Then you have the Niger affair, those cables that emerged via a journalist intermediary from an asset with a checkered past, who had contact with a rival power adverse to the coalitions goals

A huge stack, it was prominent on the History/Politics section second floor and surrounded by other anti-Trump screeds, including Noam Chomsky and Ta Nesi Coates. I was in the store for about 40 minutes doing my usual slow browse and tho' the store was packed I never saw anyone at all pause anywhere near Hillary's volume or show the slightest interest, and since I had already read a bit of the previous thread it made me wonder if Vanity Fair Mag had recommended anyone in particular to be Hillary's Ghost-Knitter.

Crazy game on Arizona v Purdue...
Since I didn't get to post the annual bowl pool, How bout a nice quick pool for the Rose/Sugar bowls and a prediction for the Championship Game?
Put your predictions for UGA v OK and AL v Clemson and who will win the final game (and the winning differential: OK wins by 3). Winner will be whoever picks the correct results (1 point each bowl) and the diff between their winning differential and the final margin of victory iow you pick OK winning by 3 and they win by 5 you get two more points... if you pick the loser no points awarded for the loss or for the score differential...if you pick OK winning by 6 but they win by 1 then you get credit for 1/2 the differential or 2 1/2 points.
Anyone wanting to play just post:
OK v UGA:
AL v Clemson:
Championship Game:
If there are any takers, post your predictions and I'll vacuum them up and put them in a spreadsheet this weekend and post the results Monday night after the games.
You have until midnight Sunday to post...
Mine is:
OK wins by 6
AL wins by 4
AL wins by 14

---J. C. Beaglehole's "The Life of Captain James Cook" (huge, but brilliant.)
---And as a NorCal guy I don't think you can go wrong in reading Richard Henry Dana's classic autobiography from 1840, "Two Years Before The Mast." John McLaughlin is an amazing guitarist of astonishing speed and also capable of blowing your eardrums clean out of your head. If you're going to see him Stephanie I'd definitely wear earplugs. Used to be with The Mahavishnu Orchestra, and was wrapped up into worshipping some Indian Guru and convinced Carlos Santana to become a disciple for a while also, so they cut a few albums together. I saw him in college about 1975. Sometimes I think McLaughlin's speed can be self defeating as his speed overwhelms the music. I don't know if he's still in that cult scene nor what he's done the last 20 years, but I did enjoy some of his soft acoustic numbers. Here's a short and sweet acoustic example from 1970 of "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat."
Posted by: daddy | December 28, 2017 at 02:03 AM
Jeff Sipe is a drummer who also goes by "Apt. Q-258", and has played with Jonas Hellborg and a bunch of jam band people mostly in Atlanta & Greenville IIRC. John McLaughlin (not the WRONG! Morton Kondracke guy) is one of the most famous jazz guitarists still living. Jimmy Herring is another leading guitar player on the jam band scene, most recently touring with John McLaughlin.

Hydromorphone (Dilaudid, Exalgo)
Beginning January 1, 2018, all drug testing at [redacted] – federal and non-federal - will include these four synthetic opioid drugs in addition to marijuana, cocaine, phencyclidine (PCP), amphetamines (amphetamines, methamphetamines, MDA, MDMA [ecstasy]) and opiates (codeine, morphine, and heroin).
Why the change?
In short, the addition of these four "synthetic" opioid drugs is in response to the nationwide epidemic of prescription painkiller abuse...
Looks like industry-wide our urine tests will be a bit more in depth than previous.

JimmyK,
It was great but I thought jim was asking more for focus on a single individual. At the Bookstore I saw Chernow's huge new bio of US Grant. By chance have you ever met him, since i know you enjoyed his Hamilton book? We are just about to do the 10 hour leg to Guangzhou, so I should finish the WW2 book in flight and inwinder what ill pick out if the bookbag next.

Every middle schooler should learn how to do CPR. I learned it as an eight year old, when my daddy the Personnel Director at the utility company brought home the reel-to-reel projector and ResusaAnnie and gave the neighbor hood kids an evening to remember.
There's some 28 year old walking around who we saved on a lacrosse field ten years ago this spring after a hit to his chest threw him in to a non-perfusing rhythm with basic CPR til they got the defibrillator his school fortunately had in the AD's office out to us on the field.
Went to his prom the following Saturday; then to Chapel Hill in the fall.

anonamom,
I agree. I learned CPR years ago when I was doing substitute teaching and took a free first aid class. I have always been glad I did.
