Here's my breakthrough insight - Don't get the flu!
I am limping along the comeback trail but wow - that was a wipeout. I'd gotten the shot - I wonder if that helped at all.
And now that I am actually able to sit in front of a computer I see Drudge is headlining the same news.
Was it Sara Carter who said that the real story is not what they did to Trump and associates, but what they were attempting to cover up?

Pretty funny! Sorry, it's fuzzy - it says, "Trump is not your President. Check here if you wish to pay taxes at Obama administration rates."

Naïve of those who think this was good faith, Dave (in MA). However, there will be enough naivetes, and enough who are simply using the good faith argument as a talking point, that the tipping point needed to indict swampers won't happen.
But swampers deciding to spend more time with their families would still be a good result.

That's a short summary of how I see it.
I won't debate you, TC, because you're probably right, but if none of these people face prosecution and punishment, how can the genie be put back into the bottle?
I think it would be very bad if they get away with what they tried to do. In other countries, after a failed coup like this, they'd all be killed or placed in irons.

A former agent says if McCabe is subpoenaed by Congress during his "vacation time" and refuses to cooperate he can be fired and lose his pension. I think that's true.

If you want to "flip" McCabe, threaten to take away his clearance. In DC, you live and die by your clearance.

Loss of a nice swamp position and seeing Trump finish out two terms would still be significant punishment, Extraneus.

TC: Whatever overzealousness there might have been, the actors were acting in the good faith belief that there was collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians.
Over charitable? Naive?
Dave - I thought Comey told us that the key word is now intent!
If they didn't intend to do it - it's all good.

Didn't save the link, but someone on the Twitter was reporting that McCabe threw a hissy fit when his resignation was requested.

" the actors were acting in the good faith belief that there was collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians. "
That's funny because Lover Boy Strzok texted lover girl lisa just prior to his assignment to mueller witch hunt: ""you and I both know the odds are nothing. If I thought it was likely, I’d be there no question. I hesitate in part because of my gut sense and concern there’s no big there there." "
Plus a FISA app based on a phony dossier seems like bad faith.

Thomas Collins, why were the polls wrong about who would win the election but are now right about his popularity?
Don't you think the polls are questionable? I do.
I do not know one single person, in person or on line, who regrets his/her vote. Not one.
Not only that, but they support him wholeheartedly.
On the other hand, we have read several people, including Dennis Prager, who said they were surprised by how good his first year has been and how wrong they were.
My daughter is even beginning to thaw a little.
So, as far as I am concerned, he is just as popular now as he was on election day, if not more so.

MM, the polls weren't that off. The Real Clear Politics average at the end was closer than in the Romney-Obama campaign, and was well within the usual norm for POTUS elections. As far as the overall results went, Clinton, despite being a weak candidate and, even according to the FBI, grossly negligent in handling classified materials, won 48 percent of the popular vote, and came very close in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin. I think the election results support my argument. Swampers almost carried The Hill over the finish line.

TC, the polls don't mean a damn thing. They've been obviously co-opted by the establishment that fought Trump and pimped for Hillary.
Multiple high-level Obama Admin officials will be indicted, convicted, and go to prison. Including Hillary.
The only thing you have to remember that tends to prove this contention is this fact: Donald Trump is President.
Additionally, remember this: Clinton, Inc. and Obama, Inc. set up a process designed to guarantee the imprisonment of Donald Trump, ruin his business *and* his family.
He's not going to have any mercy on them. Would you ???

It was a very close election, RG. The electoral college, as it usually does, made the election seem less close than it was. In any event, we are not talking about whether Trump at 45% should be Trump at 51%. We are talking about whether a US Attorney would bring indictments against the likes of Lynch, Clinton, Obama, Strzok, Page, McCabe, Comey, and other swampers. The polls would need to be way way off for the political climate to be such that those types of indictments would happen.
Posted by: Thomas Collins | January 29, 2018 at 05:16 PM
Unless Trump is going to lower the boom on all the Republicans that allowed an illegal alien to sit in the Oval Office for 8 years, there will be nothing more than glorified wrist slaps for all involved in this latest attack on our republic.
These assholes have plenty more chips to throw on the table during the bluffing phase of the negotiations.
Posted by: Threadkiller | January 29, 2018 at 05:17 PM
TC, the polls still led people, even supposedly sophisticated ones like Nate Bronze, to give Hillary a high chance of winning the electoral college. Meaning that the battleground state polls were consistently wrong.
Polling something pretty objective such as "Who are you going to vote for?" is going to be more accurate than polls about "feelings" (approval), or policy questions, which depend a lot on framing.

[1] You're wrong about the polls, TC. They were way off, and pulled their usual trick at the end. They made the numbers much closer after having Hillary up by 10% at times. I mean, why the heck do you think Democrats were stunned that Hillary lost ???
[2] I don't get the sense y'all quite comprehend what is happening here *and* many of y'all are incredibly content to remind everyone what has happened in the past.
None of that shiznit is applicable. Or haven't you been paying attention to this revolutionary President ???

Silver had candidate Trump at a 29% chance of winning at the end, jimmyk. I would say a 3 in 10 chance, coupled with the closeness of Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan, indicate that the polls were not that far off. But once again, my argument about the polls is not that they are precise in measuring Trump's popularity. My argument is that the polls indicate that there will be no rush to demand indictments on the part of the general public.
Posted by: Thomas Collins | January 29, 2018 at 05:31 PM
What is the US Code on using a fraudulent document as identification?
Not much will happen. Plus, as long as the economy is booming it will be seen as reckless for the party in power to consume time and treasure on what will be portrayed as vendettas instead of justice.

That's simply not the case, RG. The RCP final average was Clinton plus 3.2. The final result in the popular vote was Clinton plus 2.1. The polls were off in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan, but keep in mind the state polling wasn't as rigorous as the national polling. Overall, the polls understated Trump's popularity by less than the polls understated Obama's popularity in 2012. An analysis of the election polls would suggest that at most, Ras tracking is understating Trump's popularity by 3 or 4 points, and even that may be a stretch. That's hardly a popular wave of indignation against the swamp.

Thomas----> I concur with much of what you stated. My concurrence comes from my skeptical side about government's propensity to underwhelm with overpromising and under delivery. Government disappoints.
The last coup (the killing of John F. Kennedy) went unpunished. A consummate insider was put into office and smothered any credible investigatory interests while launching the current Leviathan via Great Society legislation and a defense buildup which hasn't retreated since.
However, this is Donald Trump we are talking about facing down another coup d' etat. The popular meme is that this is some kind of partisan resistance movement, when in fact it is a coup attempt that seems to be in the midst of a failing first wave.
Should POTUS lose his nerve and not decapitate the coup, it will allow the coup to revive itself and reinstitute its tentacles, only deeper and more covertly.
Calling this the "resistance" is in error IMHO. It has suggested it is willing to go over the top into full frontal violence mode with the ANTIFA movement, BLM, and the attack on Congressmen and Senators. The coup leaders remind me of the old west gunfighters/bandits who come to town and tap their fingers on the butts of their six shooters to suggest they will rock and roll at the drop of a hat.
This is a coup attempt. My hope is that POTUS will listen to his generals and admirals about what is really happening. And so far he appears to be listening because they've caused the first frontal assault on the Presidency to crumble.
There is not only the prosecutorial campaign that POTUS could initiate before statutes of limitation run out. There is the "turn the rats" campaign yet to be initiated. The first rats to turn on the higher ups get the deals. That would expedite the discovery process and save a lot of time wandering in the swamp looking for bodies.
Seth Rich and the Awan Bros would be two key entry points into snagging some top players quickly. Those are verifiable felonies that the American people can understand. Then tie those crimes to the coup and keep building momentum for rooting out the rest of the players.
Then there is the institutional reforms that could take the wind out of the Democratic party's domination of the narrative as they work it through the judiciary. Dissolve congressionally created courts and replace it with something better. That is a second term endeavor. So moving against the coup in the first term is essential to set that up.
There is the 14th Amendment eradication of the flawed interpretation that has given us the anchor baby problem and the chain migration nonsense. There is Teddy Kennedy's immigration act that needs to be repealed in order to give us a "living immigration policy" (turn the cannons around).
These suggestions take away the fuel of the coup d etat lite that refers to itself as "the Resistance." They are really the Insistance Movement to reinforce bad laws and misinterpret good laws (like the 14th Amendment).
Pincer movements always have a purpose in case one campaign stalls for whatever reason.
I belive in one thing for sure: POTUS understand the Art of the Deal *AND* the Art of War. That makes him the master of the carrot and the stick. The carrot is less effective against the Clappers, Comeys, and Jarrets. They deserve and will get the stick.
If POTUS is smart, and he is, he will offer amnesty for the Resistance lite who realize the error of their ways and are allowed to stay out of prison----> for a price: information about the folks who are higher on the food chain.
Thanks for writing, TC.

TK at 5:32 PM makes an additional point about the likelihood that the swamp avoids indictments. Trump himself will view indictments as a distraction. The evidence being accumulated against the swamp will be useful to Trump in chilling the swamp's ardor to continue coup attempts. That, plus loss of jobs, is the most to be realistically hoped for.
Posted by: Thomas Collins | January 29, 2018 at 05:44 PM
Just look at NR's McCarthy. He wouldn't indict a ham sandwich if it went to the right schools and was a fellow swamp dweller. No indictments even if the polls turn around and millions of pike bearing taxpayers show up at Sessions' pillow. It isn't who they are.
Posted by: henry | January 29, 2018 at 05:46 PM
I think you made the best argument for indictments, Kevlar Kid. Trump might decide that indictments are the only way to head off the coup. Threats won't have a chilling effect unless swamp perps end up in the courthouse. That's not how I think it will play out, but I concede it's a possibility.
