The chutzpah of the year field has only just broken from the gate but I have to say that GPS creep Simpson saying the publication of the dossier got someone killed when he was, via proxy, shopping the thing to the media left and right, puts him on the rail with at least or two or three length lead.
Posted by: Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki | January 09, 2018 at 11:08 PM
Iggy,
I can't figure Simpson out either. It was his Lawyer who said that about the dead guy, but your point is valid---if it was supposedly so dangerous it would get people killed, why the heck would you be shopping it around to every media outfit on the planet except FOX?
If I understand correctly what Ijust heard on Shannon Bream's Show, Simpson is now saying "he misspoke" about something important in his testimony, possibly the part about Popodopolous being the FBI Mole in the Trump Campaign. I don't know if that means he lied under Oath in his testimony? We should know if he lied by tomorrow, but I am all for the President's Lawyers suing this SOB and BuzzFeed for every illegal nickel they got.

As for "Bum Gouge," I am not buying that Urban Dictionary thing. In the Navy "gouge" was a slang term for the stuff you needed to know to accomplish the Mission or to pass the test (i.e.: "Did you get the gouge for the test? Did you get the gouge for the inspection tomorrow?" Did you get the gouge on the check ride tomorrow?" etc.
So there is good gouge.
Bum gouge is when you find out you have been given incorrect information.
We used the term gouge and bum gouge a million times in the Navy and at my current employer and never once did that Urban Dictionary definition I just googled ever exist in my knowledge. I think the Urban Dictionary definition of Bum Gouge is bum gouge.

If you like Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch's series of books, you'll also like Stuart Woods' Stone Barrington's character. Went to law school, became a cop and detective, shot, retired with disability pay, passed the bar exam, opened an office in his home and became of counsel to a firm that refers work to him they don't to be associated with.
He also has a Holly Barker series, Will Lee series (which was made into a movie "Chiefs"), and an Ed Eagle series. The characters all pop up in each series. Like in a connected world.
The books are hard to put down - I've read 61 of them so far.

Fun to be back. Lost my internet access late last month. Had a valid OptimumWiFi login from a friend, but whoever in the building I was piggy-backing off of must had terminated their service.
Same time it turned below freezing around here. No internet to surf, no JOM, didn't have a clue about what was going on in the world, didn't want to go outside for long, found it oddly calming, more time to read interesting books. Finished some in less than a day.
So I'm back to find that Trump is insane, Bannon fell on his sword, the FBI is more corrupt than I had imagined, and all kinds of shat that boggle the mind.
And, apparently, someone is taking on the Russians in Syria

Black Swan event.
That was back before they found out that some swans were black.
It was originally meant to convey the sense of complete surprise that such an event could occur.
Donald Rumsfeld, our former Defense Secretary, would have included it in his category of "unknown unknowns."
It's something you can't plan for, or defense against, because you can't imagine it.
It's a failure of imagination. I think in olden times it would have been seen as an intervention by G-d, or gods, or superstitious or animalist beliefs.
In modern times, with much more information available to all of us, it's less likely to occur, but the effects will be more catastrophic. In other words, we can imagine far more things now, but some of them will be dismissed as crackpot theories without basis, or will will miss something essential about the way the SYSTEM works.
Posted by: jim nj | January 10, 2018 at 02:35 AM
Trump as a "black swan event" is accurate IMHO.
Another good example was Black Monday in the 1987 stock market. The market fell 587 points that day. The reason for that was an unforeseen event.
PHDs, or "quants", developed the idea of "Portfolio insurance." They sold the idea to MBAs managing large portfolios of stocks. The idea was simple. If the market tanks, you don't have to sell stocks, you can sell futures of the various indexes and whatever you lost on the stocks would be made back when you re-bought the futures at a lower price.
In other words, the loss in one market would be offset by the gain in the other market.
What they hadn't formulated in their calculations was that futures market makers had no obligation to trade.
Think about it from the futures market traders viewpoint. There's a deluge of "sell" orders coming in. You lose money on every trade, because the stock market is still falling. So the futures market traders backed away from trading.
The "smart" guys never factored that into their "portfolio insurance." They never imagined that a market wouldn't self-immolate to fit their model.
That day could have been a lot worse, but one, or more, major institutions realized what was happening and entered massive "buy" orders on the futures markets. The futures market traders, buoyed by the huge order stepped back into the market and started trading again, calming the panic.

Hi, Jim nj, and glad you aren't froze to death.
I just finished watching "Three Days Of the Condor" on Channel 511 up here. Great flick, still holds together really well, Faye Dunaway is cooly gorgeous and the role suits Redford like a suit.

Hadn't seen it in a few years but I had no problem believing the CIA was corrupt as hell.
The only thing that actually made me giggle was in the end when Redford meets Cliff Robertson in midtown Manhattan outside the New York Times Building.
Redford (Condor) tells Robertson he told a story to the New York Times exposing Government corruption, and that he is certain they are going to publish it because the audience is supposed to believe that the NYTimes is honest and trustworthy and is actually eager to expose Government corruption, instead of aiding and abetting it as it's biggest co-conspirator:)
[Turner and Higgins stop down the street from The New York Times.]
Turner: Just look around. They've got it. That's where they ship from. They've got all of it.
Higgins: What? What did you do?
Turner: I told them a story. I told 'em a story. You play games; I told 'em a story.
Higgins: Oh, you… you poor, dumb son of a bitch. You've done more damage than you know.
Turner: I hope so.
Higgins: You're about to be a very lonely man. It didn't have to end this way.
Turner: Of course it did.
Higgins: Hey Turner! How do you know they'll print it? You can take a walk… but how far if they don't print it?
Turner: They'll print it.
Higgins: How do you know?
Other than that, great flick!

Daddy,
Thanks, you were probably warmer in Alaska, we had a record number of consecutive days below freezing here in New Jersey.
"Three Days of the Condor", yes, the idea that nothing is as simple as it seems.
You go out to lunch and find everyone dead when you return. Did the CIA kill them because they discovered something the CIA doesn't want known?
We tend to make fun of the way the CIA operates, but does the FBI work the same way?

House Chairman Asks Paul Ryan To Declassify All DOJ And FBI ‘Trump Dossier’ Docs
Florida GOP Rep. Ron DeSantis asked Speaker of the House Paul Ryan on Tuesday to declassify all of the Department of Justice and FBI’s Trump dossier files...Under House rules, the speaker of the House acts as an ex-officio member of any select committee, which includes the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. Under Rule X, the speaker along with a majority vote by the committee can allow for the disclosure of “any information in its possession after a determination by the select committee that the public interest would be served by such disclosure.”
So Ryan's been asked and he has the power with a majority Committee vote to let in the sunlight.

Here, from the NY Post, is the entirety of the Simpson Testimony mentioning the dead guy:
During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in August 2017, Glenn Simpson was questioned about whether he tried to “assess the credibility” of sources behind information uncovered by Christopher Steele, a former British intelligence agent who compiled the dossier.
“Yes, but I’m not going to get into sourcing information,” Simpson said.
Asked again what “steps he took to verify their credibility,” Simpson declined to answer.
His lawyer, Joshua Levy, then intervened and said Simpson was just trying to protect his sources.
“Somebody’s already been killed as a result of the publication of this dossier and no harm should come to anybody related to this honest work,” Levy said.
The interview didn’t pursue the line of questioning further.

Available soon, when Patriot's season ends.
Deepak Choprah's son's documentary on how a 40 year old QB trains off season, plays, and lives.
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/09/sports/football/tom-brady-patriots.html?_r=0
“We thought it would be fun to record what an off-season of training looks like for a 40-year-old athlete,” said Brady, reached by email Monday night.
The off-season ended, but Chopra and his camera stuck around into the season. “Tom is not a sentimental guy, necessarily,” Chopra said. “But I do think, as we talked, he was sort of discovering parts of himself. It’s like therapy. It’s the process of saying it and giving voice to it.”
Putting aside any significance the series might hold in the broader Patriots Kremlinology, “Tom vs. Time” is pure candy for football geeks, celebrity lifestyle voyeurs and pretty much any N.F.L. enthusiast curious about one of sports’ more enigmatic superstars. In the fifth installment (“The Spiritual Game”), Brady ruminates on the karmic satisfactions he derives through sports.
It will be on Facebook.

I read an interesting comment on Twitter from a guy I follow. We cannot afford to deport the millions who are here, because it costs around $50,000 per person to deport a person. Multiply that by the millions of illegals here, and you are starting to see real money being spent which we don't have.
Would I like them to go back home? You bet.
What would make that happen?
Removal of welfare and other government programs for those who are here illegally.
But that wouldn't remove all of them nor even a majority, because a great many of them work.
I do't know the answer, but "deport them all" isn't a viable option.

Well if they work, then they have money & they should pay for their own deportation.
If a citizen of another country is here illegally then they should be sent back to their home country immediately.
Unless a plane ticket to Honduras (or wherever) costs $50,000 then that claim is ridiculous.
We can give them a paper that explains how to apply to come legally from their own country.
If the home country won't take them then we cut off every bit of aid & send their diplomats home.
That's it. Every person that comes to America must come legally.
Here's a plan -

Unless a plane ticket to Honduras (or wherever) costs $50,000 then that claim is ridiculous.
Reminiscent of what anti-death penalty people say about capital punishment. It costs $millions, to execute someone, they say. Of course that's only because the government puts up all sorts of obstacles, giving the perp endless appeals to tie up the system and postpone the sentence for years. No doubt something similar (on a smaller scale) occurs with deportation. Talk about chutzpah.
And in any case, even if deporting all of them is unrealistic, that doesn't mean we can't deport the criminals first, then the spongers, etc.
Posted by: jimmyk | January 10, 2018 at 08:29 AM
Would be he "deport them all" plan work? Who knows. I agree with start with the criminals (those who've committed crimes in addition to the crime of entering illegally) then working toward removing others. I think the 50k per deportation is ridiculous. Even if it's true, it's a one time cost, which is much less than the seemingly in perpetuity $ illegals now cost.
Its almost unbelievable how these progtard judges twist our Constitution into balloon party animals to reach their absurd conclusions.

Gentlejim "Its almost unbelievable how these progtard judges twist our Constitution into balloon party animals to reach their absurd conclusions."
The other day when I outlined the two books I would love to see written, the first was to explain to us plain folk how the clear words of the Constitution and Bill of Rights have morphed since 1789 into the 4M pages of rules that control every human action and interaction today.
Regular plain people think you start with the original contract, you modify it infrequently with amendments using an on purpose cumbersome process, and then for decade to decade "details", elected representative write up subordinate laws and regulations and get them passed or rescinded as the prevailing winds dictate.
Easy Peazy to grasp.
What those judges and the lawyers and the law school swamp from which they all rise know and the rest of us do not fully appreciate, is that one man in a black robe can rewrite the whole contract brick by brick by creating "precedents", some of which get thrown out, but most of which just slip into the fabric and in time become almost as impactful on the Compact with the Government that dummies like me thought we could rely upon.
I often refer to the old days when religious leaders controlled the entire secular world, and to protect their hold on that power they used a language only they knew and they separated themselves from the unwashed with raised floors, iron curtains, and stone walls not unlike castles. What's the difference today, except for the God thingy?
Silly me, huh?
But a heck of a book idea for a Mark Levin.

old post from a FB friend -
You know perfectly well what is the matter with you, Winston. You’ve known it for years, though you’ve fought against the knowledge. Only the disciplined mind can see reality, Winston. It needs an act of self-destruction... an effort of the will. How many genders are there, Winston?
Two.
And if the Democrat Party says there are not two, but five, or an infinite number of genders, then how many?
Two.
No. That’s no use. You’re lying. How many genders, please?
Two. What else could I say?
Five, or anything you like.
Stop the pain.
How can I help it?
How can I help what I see in front of my eyes? Male and Female men two.
Sometimes, Winston. Sometimes they are five, sometimes they are three. Sometimes they are all of them at once. Neither the past, nor the present, nor the future... He, She, Ze and Hir... Reality is in the human mind... not in the individual mind... which makes mistakes and soon perishes... but in the mind of the Party... which is collective and immortal.
No.
How many genders, Winston?
Four.
Four, I suppose there are four.
I tried to see five. I wish I could.
Which do you wish? To persuade me that you can see five genders, or really to see them?
Really to see them.
Again. How many, Winston?
I don’t know.

Grady the author of six days was a hill staffer for senator mansfield I think, and the operation uncovered was even more nefarious. In a recent sequel, they split the plots saying they can't tell which is which.

It just shows everyone how broken and unfair our Court System is when the opposing side in a case (such as DACA) always runs to the 9th Circuit and almost always wins before being reversed by higher court

Henry, I had a close friend of 50 years who was always smarter than anyone else on computer matters and secrets. As a real estate guy who prided himself in making his deals so complicated nobody could ever follow the breadcrumbs, nonetheless he was hyper-careful about leaving written records of his arrangements. I think he was confident he had masked everything.
Until his son grew up, became a computer nerd of the first order, and went to work for the NSA. As it began to dawn on my friend what a Brennan or Clapper could find out if they wanted to, he was quite rattled.
Long way to say "Trump knows what they can do and writes his messages accordingly".
At least I sure hope so.

Old swamps never die. The remaining GAB conspirators at the new WI Ethics Commission were called out by the state AG in his John Doe leaks investigation. So the Legislature decides to hold confirmation hearings (which these guys will fail);. Their response? a new secret ethics investigation of the Rs in the leadership of the Senate and Assembly. Headed by a lawyer for their paid thug in the John Doe (a PI named Nickles). A life sentence to public stocks is too kind for these assholes.

From the tech show in LV:
"A robot that fetches beer, does cleaning
The robot from Aeolus can recognize “thousands of items," the company said in a press release, letting the robot pick them up off the floor and put them away where they belong. It even goes as far as remembering where it saw them last to help locate lost items, the company added.
Its advanced sensory and biometric technology "recognizes and differentiates between family members."
And it can even fetch a beer from the fridge, according to one report."

How can a judge stop Trump from stopping a prior EO? The logic behind the ruling makes no sense to me. That is why I argue EO is not the way to solve immigration. The next president can undo what his predecessor did.

I am unclear on this. Did Trump stop a former EO or did he chose to not extend it?
I thought he was simply letting it time out.

The fact that Sneaky Dianne Feinstein, who has on numerous occasions stated that collusion between Trump/Russia has not been found, would release testimony in such an underhanded and possibly illegal way, totally without authorization, is a disgrace. Must have tough Primary!
