Cry 'Havoc' and let slip the dogs of bounced checks!
I take for granted that Trump won't engage in Obama-style 'Shutdown Theater' and start closing visible yet inexpensive things like the Lincoln Memorial. That could be trouble for the Dems, since how will we miss the government if we don't notice it is gone? Time will tell.
Even scarier for easily scared progs;
we might notice it is gone and like it.

Euro-TV channels are going to town on the shut down and naturally blaming Trump. It happens to be a year since his Inauguration and French 24, BBC, Sky News etc, were all set to do a year in review of the "chaotic, divisive" President, and they are gleefully piling on with this latest tidbit.
In other news, I see that Tom Petty died of drug overdosing. Here is part of what he had in his system:

Since there has been so much discussion of Homeless shelters on the thread lately let me post this article on big problems at our Anchorage Homeless Shelter. Neighborhood chaos drives a new approach at an Anchorage social services hub
It has been a real crime ridden scene and my Nephew in Law is mentioned prominently in the column since he is a paramedic firefighter:
Now fire officials are trying something new. Paramedic firefighter Mike Riley, who has a background in what's called "community paramedicine," has been part of the team at Bean's Cafe and Brother Francis Shelter this month, joining cops and social workers patrolling the shelter parking lot and the blocks nearby.
Riley's duties have included helping shelter staff and clients know when to call an ambulance. For a seizure, for example, medication from the Brother Francis Shelter health clinic would be more effective than a trip to the emergency room, said assistant fire chief Alex Boyd. In at least one case, Riley recognized that a "seizure" was actually an uncooperative client pretending to have a seizure, Boyd said — an event that might have drawn down an entire ambulance crew as well as police in the past.
He is a good man and I sure do not envy what he has to go through, but he is definitely making a name for himself as a figure of consequence in our City.

If the Dems and Big Media are so certain they will win back Congress in 2018 then why did the 5 most vulnerable Dem senators vote for the CR?
The GOP votes against are not vulnerable since Flake isn’t running.
Why did Schumer think he could outflank Trump on this?
Because he has never had to deal with a “stable smart genius”. Should have paid closer attention to Adm. Johnson’s presser.

Miss M,
I don't know how he is able to seemingly come home and leave that stuff at work. I know I couldn't, but he seems to manage it. He is an exceptionally mature and very decent, well grounded young man. He and my niece have 3 young happy kids, 2 dogs, and a rustic cabin style home with a view and plenty of bears in the backyard. He goes off on hunting and fishing trips with his best bosom buddy from grade school and I think that is probably his personal therapy to handle such potent emotional stuff he deals with at work. I do know that the Firefighters quit going on calls to the Homeless Shelter about 6 months ago unless they had a Police escort, since the place was so crime ridden and out of control they feared for their personal safety. Nice to see from the article that at least they are trying to deal with the awful situation of our burgeoning drugged-out homeless population up here.
Also worth mentioning that one of our former pilots, a very committed Christian woman, retired early from the company about 10 years ago to devote herself entirely to working at this shelter trying to help these folks. I hear her interviewed on local talk radio frequently, explaining what she is up against. She and Michael are both way better men than I.

Even with a 90% negative media on the Dem's side, I can't see this being a winner for them. If Trump is remembered for one promise during 18 months of campaigning around the country it's his proclamation on "The Wall" and why we need it. He won the electoral and where he didn't is where "illegales" are a big part of the population.
I see the same dynamic here and Trump has a huge bully pulpit. If he goes back on the Rally Trail, heaven help those Dems in States that went for!

Buckeye,
My niece from Beaufort on the NC coastline came up to visit with a college girlfriend from the Alaskan bush. She stayed at our house for 2 weeks one summer and fell in love with the place---the natural beauty, the dog walks, everything. One night at I think Moose's Tooth Pizzeria she and her buddy were sitting next to some handsome young bush Firefighters and that was it. They fell in love, but she had a job in Raleigh NC, so he joined her in NC and went to School there to get his paramedic quals while working as an Ambulance guy for one of the Hospitals. Once he got his Qual which as I understand it is very valuable, he applied back to the Anchorage Fire Department and they took him in a heartbeat. She was able to work out a gig doing whatever she does from long distance on computer from Alaska, so she joined him shortly after, they bought a house in Eagle River, and the rest is history. They live about 30 miles away so we don't see each other too often, especially with me being gone so much, but we text constantly and are good buddies.

Daddy,
Citalopram is used to treat depression.
Your homeless shelter is an out of control criminal enterprise. The director should be fired. The shelter should be closed immediately. The idea that a shelter should be a no-go zone is obscene. Close the shelter, arrest anyone who deserves it, and start over or close it down.
Shelters are not meant to be criminal asylums.

JiB,
They are very optimistic about their future. They are raising good outdoorsy kids who love hiking and fishing. Mike was straining at the bit to get out of Raleigh and get back to God's Country, and pretty much so was my niece. He's making a name for himself in his job and has been ordered by the Fire Chief to speak to the City's Assembly members a few times because of his expertise. It daunted him the first time but now he's used to it and I can tell from the write ups in the paper that he's considered a person of real consequence and expertise.
Buckeye,
It's a beautiful state. The view out my living room window, even on the shortest and coldest day of the year, is spectacular. Winters are indeed a bit long, so a winter break to Hawaii is pretty much essential, and you come back ready to tough it out till spring.
Jim nj,
I didn't know what you'd think of our Homeless Shelter situation but I appreciate the input. We have an enormous amount of the Native population that is homeless, and they are probably the majority of the homeless in our shelters. The standard sociological problems exist with any such group who's Culture has pretty much disappeared, and who's Genome never developed the ability over 3,000 years or so to drink alcohol without going crazy and winding up in the gutter. Fetal alcohol poisoning is a huge problem up here, and according to the papers IIRC sexual assaults of Native women and children in the villages lead the nation every year by huge numbers. As I understand it most all of our Natives receive some significant amount of income from the Native corporations, whether they work or just lay around, so there is no imperative, no real incentive to have to work, and it is tragic that on almost any street corner downtown you see numbers of homeless lying around or panhandling. I have no solutions, but I sure admire my Nephew In Law for trying.

What if, because Dems pushed us over the cliff, they now have to pay a price? Schumer can choose:

JiB,
Yesterday read about 110 pages in that interesting book on the 1854 Cholera Plague in London, "The Ghost Map." Had been carrying it around in the book bag for quite a while but finally got to it yesterday and it hit the spot. Not beautifully written, but the information is excellent and well worth the read. Interesting to read that it started in Soho, on the same block where Karl Marx and his family lived, though in a different year. I noticed as I started it that the receipt from when I bought it was inside. It had a date about 5 years back, and was from the Anchorage Salvation Army store. The price? 25 cents😀 Is there anything in America you can buy anymore for 25 cents? I doubt it. Feels like I made a killing!
If it wasn't rainy and nasty over here, 37F, I'd consider hopping the train to London and wandering the plague blocks of Soho.

We suspect it was from the bottled water people favored from those hand-pump wells in SoHo. He took ill in the morning and died at 7 PM that day. Cholera works fast.
He's buried in Highgate Cemetary in the same section as Karl Marx. Talk about a coincidence:)

UK teen gained access to CIA chief's accounts: court
LONDON (AFP) -
A British teenager managed to access the communications accounts of top US intelligence and security officials including the then CIA chief John Brennan, a London court heard Friday.
Kane Gamble, now 18, was aged 15 and 16 when, from his bedroom in Coalville, central England, he managed to impersonate his targets to gain highly sensitive information....
...The court heard how the teenager founded the group Crackas With Attitude (CWA), who used "social engineering" -- manipulating call centres and help desks into divulging confidential information -- which they then exploited.
Gamble impersonated Brennan in calls to the telecommunications companies Verizon and AOL
Doesnt say a lot for John Brennan if a 15 year old in pajamas with a Brit accent can make telecommunication Security experts think he's John Brennan.
And "Crackas With Attitude"---wasnt that the name of some Rap Group, or have I mixed up my Racial epithets?

You are correct in your assumption that Dems need a distraction from devastating illegal spying on Americans during Obama time.

re staying grounded doing hazardous work with dead, dying, wrecked humans- first responder work....
lot of cop friends here (make friends in every town I've ever lived in --- the guys with the guns and the guys who owned the liquor stores) and EMT pals.
they all say the same thing about "seeing things you can't unsee." Key skill that is developed by experience or one leaves the job: compartmentalization.
i had one first responder type experience on the farm....volunteer fire. saw a farmer and 3 sons burn alive in a barn fire (propane tank explosion). it gave me proper motivation to shut down my plant-breeding business, go to graduate school, and do something safer. but those burning bodies running out of their barn is something i can't unsee.
God Bless first responders and everybody who actually serve others on the front lines of poverty, disease, and chronic illnesses.
(You guys, I am back to 100 per cent energy mode...3 2 mile walks with Anya yesterday-- the Voonder Doggie--- "Daddy, where have you been?" she was asking me.)

So on the memo, 200 Reps in the House have seen it and nobody is calling for McCabe or Rosenstein to be fired? They don't have to disclose any classified info to say that one or both of these two shouldn't be anywhere near high-level law enforcement decision-making authority.
Seems suspicious, as if nobody has been caught red-handed. FISA application signed off by some low-level functionary, layers of deniability like a mafia hit, everyone able to testify that they were truly worried and only acted to protect the nation that they so patriotically love, etc.

He took ill in the morning and died at 7 PM that day.
Wow, Jack. But less than 24 hours seems to be the standard length of survival once infected. Man, how brutal.
What amazes is the bravery of those trying to treat the afflicted because since nobody knew how the disease was transmitted, they were putting their lives on the line every second. Astonishing courage.

You can blather on about about everything but the truth, how much time was wasted on wolffs whistle but William Campbell can't get a hearing to save his life (and I'm not being metaphorical) operation cassandra well it lives up to its namesake.

You know damn well the MFM would accuse them of leaking classified info and would talk about nothing but that.

A "Bright Moments" moment for this conservative---
1. I have my ultra-liberal siblings and their mates on long-term "soak" re Trump and constitutional conservatism.
2. Two sisters (out of my four) went to go see "Post".
3. They said the audience cheered at the end.
4. My older sister said: "I just hope our journalists continue to keep telling us the truth."
5. I Press pause in the conversation and tells her: There is something coming out from the Congressional intelligence committee that is bigger than Watergate (which turned my sibs into die-hard liberals) and the mainstream media is suppressing.
6. Told her the media is part of a covert coup d etat to topple the freely elected president.
7. Have a look at American Thinker.
8. Read back issues of "Clarice Feldman" and her "Clarice's Pieces"
9. 5 hours go by.
10. My sister is on the horn crying.
11. What up?
12. "Oh my God?!?! Why aren't we being told about these things."
13. You are now, Baby. Don't worry. Stop listening to NPR. Read AT and other referenced conservative sites (Gave her access to my tothepointnews.com paid site). Quoted Lincoln.

i love 25 cent books. i love free ones even more. i am a book hoarder. but running out of room. planning to sell off my inventory, give some to the mini-free libraries around town. sell others on Amazon (or a suggested resale site if I can find one).
There are two great used book stores in Berzerkoville. But like second hand stores are now "vintage" BS resale retail priced scam shops, so are the used book stores.
I'm sure everybody here has had experience with Amazon's "used" pricing on books.... 99 cents and 3.75 to ship it. puck that.
" Gonna Pain My Mailbox Blue" ...Taj Mahal goin on this morning as the contractors are here finishing off our bathroom and laundry room remodel. (And in the background their Mexicano music is creepin in....hilarity) Guess I got to turn it up some!

Talked to my friend n Wednesday who was in the accident last weekend.
He came around a turn in the right lane and blinked when he saw headlights apparently to his right coming at him. He had time to move into the left lane [he was in a stretch of road with a passing lane] but the gal must have woken up at the same time because her car veered to his left as though to get back in her lane. Bam.
Said after he assessed himself he got out and found their car in the dark. Said he could only see the top of the driver's head because she was jammed down in the footwell as was her daughter on the other side.
The sad thing is he emailed a pic of their car later and there was plenty of room for them to have survived if they'd had their belts on.

Gamble's "Crackas With Attitude" is a wigger play on the old time rap outfit "Niggaz With Attitude" (NWA) from the early to mid-90s.
When I worked in cultural affairs in Vermont's main hire ed salt mill, we co-sponsored bringing "Public Enemy" (Chuck D and Flavor Flav before Flav got jail problemas), "Naughty by Nature", and NWA.
My admiration for anything related to rap ended with that concert b/c it seemed like Def Jam records and Russell Simmons took over with their "bitches, ho's and bling" nonsense soon after.
Public Enemy to me was a tour d' force but had its market undercut by the sensationalist hip hop hucksters like Simmons. They also had a dj who did his scratchin the old fashion way with turn tables not DATs.
I'd never seen a live musical audience move in synchronous motion for over 5 hours of music (not even a Dead show) like they did for our concert lineup. Haven't been to a hiphop or rap show since. Was only there because I was working. Raised a lot of money for the arts and the homeless. Wild times in the Green Mountain State.

I think you're right, danoso. Only a few people are authorized, but apparently it's supposed to go to the top.

by some weird coincidence, a friend of mine from elementary school was treated by a nephew who works in an ER, they got to talking about last names, and my nephew gave him my email address, so we are going to get together for coffee soon, reuniting after 50 plus years. My friend lives in Park Slope, told me this morning he is going on the women's march, supports PP, etc, etc., I told him that's ok, some of my friends are leftists. I see it as an opportunity for some soft exchange of information.
