The bitcoin bubble may play out at an accelerated pace:
U.S. Regulators Subpoena Crypto Exchange Bitfinex, Tether
U.S. regulators are scrutinizing one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges as questions mount over a digital token linked to its backers.
The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission sent subpoenas on Dec. 6 to virtual-currency venue Bitfinex and Tether, a company that issues a widely traded coin and claims it’s pegged to the dollar, according to a person familiar with the matter, who asked not to be identified discussing private information. The firms share the same chief executive officer.
Tether’s coins have become a popular substitute for dollars on cryptocurrency exchanges worldwide, with about $2.3 billion of the tokens outstanding as of Tuesday. While Tether has said all of its coins are backed by U.S. dollars held in reserve, the company has yet to provide conclusive evidence of its holdings to the public or have its accounts audited. Skeptics have questioned whether the money is really there.
More background here but the gist is that Tether is what you'd get if you had a cryptocurrency "pegged" to the US dollar, backed by bank deposits, and managed by Bernie Madoff.
The good news, this is only a $2 billion scam we are talking about. The NY Times just had a story about financial scams in China which cited four recent instances in the billions. The lead is the now-collapsed Qianbo, with $5 billion in losses but this is included:
Just four months ago, a Beijing court handed down a lifetime prison sentence to the founder of a $9 billion online lending platform called Ezubao that authorities now say had been a Ponzi scheme. Last summer, Chinese police arrested the head of Fanya Metals Exchange, which offered investment products promising double-digit returns, after it lost $6 billion of investor money. One month later, investors in a company called Shanxinhui lost billions of dollars and many hundreds of protesters took to the streets. In response to protests in Beijing at the time, Guo Shengkun, then China’s police chief, pledged to rein in fraudulent financial schemes.
People want to believe.

Had a guy I flew with about a month or so ago who was consumed with BitCoin. Couldn't get him to shut up about it in the cockpit---he was totally obsessed with it. I let him talk himself out and told him I had zero interest of any kind whatever in it. And again, and again, and again, and again, etc. He had bought a few coins from some lower rated Exchange like Lightcoin or some such for x amount of thousands and I simply thought he was nuts. Whatever, that amount of passion for some theoretical thing caused me to take all the challenging landings:)

JiB--were you in Dulwich to think of cricket pasts or Wodehouse's?
Clarice--your first idea wasn't that bad--I read the link and the Sardinian fellow was very proud of the island's history as resistance against tyranny (real tyranny, like the Romans) and described his ancestors (a claim we take with a grain of salt) as being like Bravehearts.
MM--we have a copy of All About Dinosaurs by Roy Chapman Andrews!
Daddy, that photo of Anchorage looked like an N.C. Wyeth--so beautiful!
I sure hope Trump does not release the memo right after the SOTU because I want to go to bed.

Jane, I've been thinking of your lively concern--that we as a country cannot afford to get into what might be perceived as perpetual tit for tat among the presidential losers and winners. Madness lies ahead. I hate Obama and Hillary, truly a lot--but for comity in the state and a break in the pattern, I would want Pres. Trump to pardon both of them as soon as the public record confirms what we here already know, their confirmed villainy and violation of federal statutes. I do think he would probably have no sweeter moment as president than signing those pardons--can you imagine? Jackie Gleason, "How Sweet It Is," has nothing on it.

I don't think the FBI will survive it's reincarnation unless those at the top, all of them, pay dearly. Early retirements with pensions intact won't remove the stench. Because right now, they all smell like Hillary's urine, that's how she marks her territory.

Is there any benefit whatever, in any circumstance you can think of, where bleeding a patient actually improves a condition? I ask because it seems our ancestors were very sharp in so many ways in sensing what prevents or relieves various ailments. I know the thought of the bile's and the multiple phlegm's and all that, but prior to all that mountain of ancient and medieval theory, can you think of any reason why they would have tried or observed bleeding and concluded "Hey, that's a good therapy. Let's try it in all sorts of conditions."
Bleeding a patient (withdrawing blood) is used now in cases of hemosiderosis(a disorder of iron accumulation) and polycythemia vera (too many red blood cells)..
It's thought by some to be a good thing to donate blood regularly, as men with lower total body iron levels---not pathologically low, but low normal--seem to live longer and to enjoy better overall health. Theory is that Iron can accumulate in tissues---the problem in hemosiderosis--and cause organ disfunction.

I have been thinking about Jane's comment as well.
I will be satisfied if both the Clintons and Obama are shown to have been up to illegal stuff. I don't think a trial would be a good idea, even with a pardon afterwards.
I know this sounds wimpy, but once Pandora's box is opened, who knows what evils would fly out? I can see the democrats mounting a presidential campaign based on nothing but revenge, and there are enough nut cases out there that who knows what violence would come out?
I have said before that I think this entire Russia thing was designed as revenge by Obama (for the birth certificate) and Hillary (because she viewed Trump as a threat to her power). I point again to David Plouffe's "destroyed not just defeated" tweet.
I think all of the rest of this stuff was covering their tracks afterwards.
Proving that they were doing this should be enough. It should horrify Americans.
I don't know the answer. Maybe just keeping them out of the public eye would be enough, although Obama probably wouldn't adhere to it.
So far the President's instincts have been remarkably good. I guess I will trust him to know the wisest course.
Posted by: Miss Marple the Deplorable | January 30, 2018 at 06:49 PM
Catsmeat, I agree but the push back would be ugly and should be ugly. And if the lower people do time while Hillary is sipping chardonnay, that works but it's also very ugly.
No real good answer but I don't want to destroy the republic over it. Boy was I mad when Ford pardoned Nixon.

I want to see The Bath House Rat and Hillary to be hung as traitors and spies for Iran and the uranium.
The message must be clearly sent to the American People who want to see that *NO AMERICAN IS ABOVE THE LAW*.
I am really doubt that future presidential victors would be able to legitimately do (and therefore would not be able to fabricate enough real evidence) what Donald J. Trump is doing.
1) Because they would be new and their apparatus in Washington would be new.
2) They won't have a 30 plus year mole (like Mueller, Comey, and Lynch) in key leadership positions with cutout records of integrity etc.
3) The DNC is nearly defunct. A new party would need years to develop the teeth to replicate the Trump victories that are starting to emerge.
4) The American Left are greedy children. And the only thing they hate more than Republicans are leaders who lie to them. Bernie, Feinstein, Pelosi---> they were all in on this charade. They lied and the EmoCrat Party died.
Once the evidence comes out even some of the diehards are going to abandon any semblance of loyalty to the DNC, the memory of the Clintons ("Bill, was that a lie too? Or did you have real feelings for us?")
It's kind of like going into a world war twice. The people began to say puck you to Uncle Same when Korea happened; and, the "false flag" event in the Tonkin Gulf led to a giant single digit salute to the "old business" model.
Sacking former presidents will have the same lack of appeal. Banana Republix and African politics are nowhere near the trajectory the Nation and its patriots have set for ourselves with the Trump election and the MAGA sentiment we expect to continue no matter the cost to our adversaries.
This is the Second American Revolution. The civil war people were saying that we're in the middle of will come 100 years from now as political opposition to MAGA dig in and continue to plant seeds of secession and the break-up of the US into "bio-regions" (a commie watermelon idea).

but for comity in the state and a break in the pattern, I would want Pres. Trump to pardon both of them as soon as the public record confirms what we here already know, their confirmed villainy and violation of federal statutes.
I've always assumed this is what Trump will do. I think he wants to be known as a great President and being magnanimous to people who wanted to use the state to destroy him would aid in that effort. Plus I think he considers this an impediment, albeit an unfortunately necessary one, to MAGA.

Trump was in fact very magnaminous in victory, signaling that he wasn't going to go after former rivals, no matter how steeped in criminal offenses. It got him nothing, because given what they had already done they had no choice but to go full steam ahead with Russia and whatever they thought they had. Silly asses--now all exposed, and Trump's generosity stamped on with wicked muddy boots--IF he can find it in him to be generous NOW for the nation would not surprise me (I think he is really a gentleman at heart), but it is certainly far better than Hillary or Obama deserve.

During this part of the maturation cycle of Democrat Party/President/apparatchik overreach we saw that followers were willing to kill the political opposition,or at least to inspire lethal caliber violence with bike locks and arming anarchist elements in "peaceful protests."
We've seen university faculty participate in direct propagandizing and disinformation campaigns (Robert Reich of Cal Berkeley telling the press "It was Breitbart News. Breitbart was here.")
If we do not kill the ringleaders, the wave will build again. Infrastructure will be allowed to stay in place (I can hear it now:" What's the harm of allowing minor actors in this conspiracy to keep their DC jobs and pensions? That plus exercise 5-6 days/week, a lot of walking, and limiting carbs, and I'm about 20% off my peak weight, pretty close to where I want to be.

Sure they had a choice: they should have kept their stupid yaps shut and gone about their business of just doing the jobs they were being paid to do and hoping the GOPe didn't have the guts to scrutinize things in the past other than what IG Horowitz had in motion which would produce some manageable casualties but they would still have most of their embedded bad actors in place.
But they had a mentally ill harridan refusing to accept defeat and agitating her subgroup of lunatic adherents to begin a quixotic undertaking that would only end badly. And a few of the more sane people are starting to see just how badly it will end up.

It is a sad story. It's the kind of logical fallacy a fuckin retard could work out in 3 seconds....but in this group it passes for sound reasoning.

Far better for President Trump to cast a paternal eye on them and ask which they would rather have, a temporary seat or citizenship. (I doubt he says anything at all, but sure don't want a ruckus in the gallery.)

Most vets canoperate on small dogs ass well as large. Spaying involves an incision in the abdomen through both skin and muscle; then the vet reaches in and pulls out the Fallopian tubes, removes the ovaries, and sews up where they were removed. Replace and suture the main incision.
I was a cheap vet assistant for my ucle when he first started his practice. We did all sizes of dogs.

Just don't get Kiwi's teeth cleaned. I've owned a dog or dogs my entire life & I've never had their teeth cleaned.

'It's the kind of logical fallacy a fuckin retard could work out in 3 seconds...'
Says the half-wit who built the most frail of strawmen with his premise.

If Rodham or the first Bi-racial Bi-sexual President showed ANY CONTRITION of ANY SORT, I'd untie the noose.
These 2 motherfuckers continue to poison America.
The DEMOTARD FULL COMMIE tantrum and sick sick lie is at ELEVENTY!! right now. Rodham shit on The President on Sunday night. She has committed crimes against this nation for years, including BENGHAZI. The gentlemen who died at Benghazi didn't get to take milllllions in bribes and retire in luxury.
No way no how. There is a once in HISTORY CHANCE to get this country back to THE RULE OF LAW.
Either RODHAM or OBAMA or both need to go to PRISON.

Please don't engage with half wits. It only encourages them.

Baloney! Those Bastards tried to flush the will of the people right down the shitter! Justice For ME!

For the record, I'd love retribution too. I LOATHE these people and think they have done incalculable damage to our country. Wouldn't mind what happened to the Ceauscecus going down. But half the country would never understand and become even more hardened. Many don't know ANYTHING (that's actually the greatest danger to our country, the colossal ignorance of its citizens, married to their undeserved notion of their moral superiority).

Feel free to ignore us both, Buford.

Remember this too -
No "Dreamer Law" has ever been passed in Congress.
Even when the Democrats had the House, the Senate (with 60 Dem. votes so they could win a filibuster) & the Presidency....they did NOT pass amnesty for citizens of other countries that were here illegally.
They could have done ANYTHING they wanted when President Obama was first elected. They did NOT pass amnesty.
**********
So why didn't the Dems bring DREAMers to Obama's SOTU?

I will never ignore you, Beasts. You're way too good of a guy, and very entertaining. I just get very tired of having to sort through troll messages.

"Nugent or Cruz"
The one with the Gibson Byrdland. Not the girly-man:)

Neil Cavuto leading Fox Business for the SOTU lead in. Switching to Tucker. Well Tucker has Brit "Womb Fume" Hume on, so I may need to switch to CNN.
By the way, was Brit banging that filthy whore, Meagain?

Baloney! Those Bastards tried to flush the will of the people right down the shitter! Justice For ME!
Amen.
Where do I get a "Free to be lawless" token?
What laws do I get to break?
That goes for the so-called Dreamers, Hillary, the deep state criminals,....
Again, What laws do I get to break?

I just got a Facebook message from Mark Folkestad. It looks like his account has been hacked. Anyone know how to reach him? He's saying he got his FPWA grant, and wants to know if I got mine. Certainly doesn't sound like Mark.

How am I supposed to respond to that, Buford?! ;)

Fifteen years ago, Bush used the infamous 16 words. "the British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa."
Seems like yesterday

Watch the flash, it's more plausible than most commentary about this speech.

Ma Clinton and the preezy: Full humiliation and trashing of their special status.
Nixon was branded for life. These criminals need branding also. Heap ridicule and not respect and stop the honorifics--against rules anyway. She is NOT Secretary and he is NOT President.

Tucker just ripped some Ohio Dem Rep a new one over his empty guest seat in honor of an illegal deported.

Btw beasts it looks like space x' s launch will be delayed, they heard about this thing called winter, or they too are enthralled to the sky dragon.
Posted by: narciso | January 30, 2018 at 08:14 PM
The fact FULL COMMIE LIBTARDS do not and will not see the CRIMES that have been committed, BUT INSTEAD, choose to attempt and back an attempt to bring down a duly elected President by virtue of CRIMINAL ACTS......CANNOT BE FORGIVEN. Absolution comes with the CONFESSION, then redemption can take place. THESE MOTHERFUCKERS TTRIED and are TRYING to STEAL the land where my FATHER DIED, land of MY CHRISTIAN, A-STUDENT, EAGLE SCOUT SON.
The laws that have been broken are legion, the FUCKING FBI and IRS have been used to for the purposes of a COUP. The law still prescribes death FOR TREASON.
Posted by: GUS | January 30, 2018 at 08:14 PM
Boy, Tucker was on fire, wasn't he?
The killer statistic was 4000 drug overdose deaths and 400 illegals deprted. So why the grandstanding over the deportee?
Posted by: Miss Marple the Deplorable | January 30, 2018 at 08:14 PM
I'd brand the old Hilligula cowhide for you, Frau. My brother still has some irons from the ranching days 40+ years ago.

BUFORD:I will never ignore you, Beasts. You're way too good of a guy, and very entertaining.

BUFORD: I wish I knew how to quit you.

Our Federal Furuncle - there are things worse than death or the orange jump suit. Their names must live in infamy. We should be working on the name of the biggest scandal in our history.
Lyle and I want skulls but I will settle for full lengthy details of the individual sins. This must make it into future history lessons. Part of my high school US history course was leaning about the Teapot Dome scandal. Rank amateurs!
Let 'er rip...
