Good morning J O M

Neo

In private meetings with more than a dozen members of Congress held on Dec. 5 and 6, Lee briefed lawmakers — all Democrats except for one Republican senator, whom [Dr] Lee declined to identify.

Obvious conclusion ...
Democrats seeking the aid of a mental health expert to help them with their 'Clinton-induced' psychosis.
One Republican trying to figure out just how incapacitated they are.

anonamom

She's just taking the JOM way.

More Trump winning!
Leftists startign to realize how badly all their hate hurts themselves.

Captain Hate

Hmmm, that is a strange and uplifting back and forth.

anonamom,

This is true. I detect a crack in the wall, myself.

Stephen Miller did well on Tapper's show, from what I can see.

Leaving Camp David for the White House. Great meetings with the Cabinet and Military on many very important subjects including Border Security & the desperately needed Wall, the ever increasing Drug and Opioid Problem, Infrastructure, Military, Budget, Trade and DACA.

James D.

From the previous thread:

their accusations of racism, misogyny and now insanity against Trump are also accusations against me and others who align with his views.
Personally, I find it very very hard not to despise them.

I’m st the point where I’m ready to stop trying, myself.

Old Lurker

I was there a year ago myself, James.

Femall. I don't care.

No Republican in a "meeting". That is a lie.

http://www.weeklystandard.com/did-a-republican-senator-actually-meet-with-a-psychiatrist-about-trumps-sanity/article/2011052

"In an on-the-record phone call with TWS Saturday afternoon, Lee admitted her “meeting” with a Republican senator was not actually scheduled and that it was, in her own words, “accidental.”

“The meeting happened—it wasn’t arranged in advance,” she said. “It was accidental. It was incidental, I will say. It was incidental.”"....

"when TWS asked whether the nameless Republican senator was sympathetic to her view of Trump’s mental health, Lee was quick to admit they were not."...

The MFM are a pathetic joke.

I’ve had to put up with the Fake News from the first day I announced that I would be running for President. Now I have to put up with a Fake Book, written by a totally discredited author. Ronald Reagan had the same problem and handled it well. So will I!

Jane, our Chitown lurker suggests the HUD money went through Loop Capital, aka "The Original Laundry Service."

Doesn't Treasury or the HUD IG have a forensic accounting group that can get the bottom of this? Can you imagine Boeing or CAT or Exxon reporting to the SEC on their 10K that they can't find where $500 billion in expenses was spent and for what?

les nessman

From today's Pieces "... Nunes now has the record of what Steele was asked by the FBI and what he answered..."
Well, he has the "record" of what the agents decided to put in their 302's. Which is probably chock full of fabrications, distortions and omissions.

And from Byron York :"If what Steele told the FBI was untrue, that's a problem."

Who is it a problem for? Isn't he a Brit? Our stupid "'lying' to the FBI" laws don't apply to him. It's certainly not a problem for the FBI, who now have a cover-all excuse if things go bad. (Oops! Not our fault, we were lied to. Honest mistake"

henry

JiB, the $500 billion missing was from HUD's forensic accounting. As a Loop Capital type firm siphoned cash in every blue hell, they have the same protections as Hilligula does- co conspirators in every Congessional office plus the regulators. The swamp teems with leeches.

Extraneus

He's the one who released 375 of the 10,000 Strkok/Page texts, right? (Nunes is supposed to get the rest this week.) Just that alone was pretty important, and kind of argues against a whitewash. We'll see soon enough if all this stuff gets to the committees when they say it will.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

I must be a bad person because the first two things that came to mind were:

I watched Wolff on MTP this morning. In the beginning he was fairly compelling - compelling enough to make me nervous, but then he sort of fell apart - very void of actually facts.

Even David Brooks said something like: I hate everything about trump but this book is not credible.

The liberals were talking 25th amendment.

Oh and Wolff really needs his teeth cleaned.

jimmyk

Although as OL pointed out, sometimes missing money is just the result of mistaken entries, outright corruption and theft can be on the books via featherbedding, bogus "consulting" fees, and the like. The NYT piece I linked a week or two ago about the subway tunnel construction indicated $billions were being given away to unions and other cronies.

Strange morning here. Typical winter storm: dark, blowing 30 kts and raining sideways, but this morning there are several eagles having a conniption fit right outside. With the wind they can stay aloft in one spot that gives them a visual on something on the ground. Probably something dying or dead on the shore. Lots of piping to each other which brings others over to check on the action. Lots of aerobatic maneuvers.

Why did PowerLine feel the need to name Sundance ???

My take on the comment at PowerLine (forgive me, Esquires everywhere) is this: lawyers can be so damn anal retentive, they miss the forest for the trees. Sundance is writing for a lay audience. Wake up, smell the damn coffee, and appreciate the overall value of accurately (more or less) addressing the narratives at play.

* * *

I wasn't aware that Steele testified before the Judiciary Committee, or any Congressional committee, and I couldn't find anything to confirm. Does anyone have a link?

Posted by: Extraneus | January 07, 2018 at 08:17 AM

Isn't this a distinction of no import? Chuck Grassley and Lindsey Graham are discussing a classified memorandum. Theoretically, it could contain "testimony," either loosely or strictly defined, from Steele (indirectly, or directly, implicating this question using the black vernacular: Is you is, or is you ain't lyin? Because the FBI said . . . .).

Remember, *someone* leaked to CNN that Mueller's team *has* interviewed Steele. Correct? And Steele has made certain representation in British court, correct?

http://media.washtimes.com.s3.amazonaws.com/media/misc/2017/04/26/Steeles_Defence_in_London_Action.pdf

Representations, in fact, that are now seriously in doubt . . . are they not?

That particular tweet thread, Extraneus, is a good one, whether or not a non-substantive point misstates the fact of in-person testimony before the Senate committee.

The intriguing point made: a clever trap has been laid for these co-conspirators, and Chuck Grassley, Lindsey Graham, along with the Trump Administration, all of them very much want these co-conspirators TO KNOW THEY'VE BEEN HAD. Which means . . . time to freak the hell out.

(9) The elite circle of the co-conspirator media propagandists are shaking like wet poodles in a Boston Bomb Cyclone. They are whiplashed into the realization that they are now one & the same with Steele. While they may not have committed the same crimes, they face an inquiry...

— 2ndUSRevolution🇺🇸 (@2ndUSRevolutoin) January 6, 2018

(10) And upon that realization, they are now scrambling like loose calves in a rodeo roping competition. They are likely making phone calls, meeting with advisors, sending desperate emails. They are acting as Paragraph 1 was intended to trigger: afraid and shaken...

— 2ndUSRevolution🇺🇸 (@2ndUSRevolutoin) January 6, 2018

(11) With such a statement inserted, where it was not otherwise necessary to present Steele to the DOJ and FBI, I am certain every person on that list has been, and is presently, under full surveillance. And in that position as enemies of the state, evidence is being collected...

— 2ndUSRevolution🇺🇸 (@2ndUSRevolutoin) January 6, 2018

(12) This memo from Grassley and Graham is as much to present Steele for prosecution as it is to shake the trees, watch the fruit fall, and gather a harvest of undeniable evidence of guilt...

— 2ndUSRevolution🇺🇸 (@2ndUSRevolutoin) January 6, 2018

(13) It may be a year before we see this shoe drop, but from the 3rd day of This presidency when Trump opened up a can of “Fake News” whoop-ass in his first press conference, he has not let up, & won’t, until media honest reporting is restored.

Sweet dreams, media elite. The end

Bori

Regarding Steele, he had to provide testimony on a lawsuit brought about because of the Dossier by a Russian in the UK. His testimony in that lawsuit and his statements to the FBI is what I believe that the Senate is looking at.

If his testimony under oath at the British courts conflicts with his statements to the FBI, there are obvious issues.

For those who may believe that Mueller is a white hat, could it be that he is stretching out his investigation in order to keep high paid Dem lawyers encumbered so that they don't interfere with what is going on behind the curtains.

Jim Eagle

I find it interesting as all get out that Woolf has pulled back on the veracity of his book without being challenged by the MFM. Just a Sarah Sanders tweet, one or two from Trump and maybe a few other inner circle. But I know of no Sunday news or talk shows that challenged him or did they.

But voluntary walk back could be more 11 dimensional chess. Its almost as if Trump wants the smears, lies, fake news to keep himself more legitimate to the base and his Congressional allies. Somthing weird about the access, which Trump denies, Bannon's praise of Trump after Trump criticized him in a press release, the media being sucked in and then Woolf walking back.

Beyond conincidental. YMMV

Nonsense, Clarice. When I worked for the British civil service (fresh out of college) back in the day, I had no trouble at all following a breakfast like that with 2 hours moving paper around my desk, followed by a couple of hours at the pub for lunch, 2 more hours chatting, and then leaving early for soccer practice.
Iow, a normal ‘working’ day

Extraneus

His testimony in that lawsuit and his statements to the FBI is what I believe that the Senate is looking at.

I think that's true, also. So when the twitter guy claims in his 2nd comment of a long thread that they're trying to nail Steele on his Senate Judiciary Committee testimony, and then follows that up with a bunch of speculation, I write him off as unreliable and ignore what else he has to say, since Steele didn't testify to the Committee or any other committee, and this stuff is complicated enough without having to sort out fact vs. fiction in twitter threads.

It's simple. Either state facts or speculate. Don't make false claims or state speculations as fact. We do a lot of speculating here and nobody seems to state their speculations as facts.

And, btw, reporting on reports as facts - like Byron York did about the unsourced, unverified, and possibly bogus WaPo report that the FBI tentatively agreed to pay Steele - is just bad (and unreliable) reporting. We really shouldn't have to fisk Byron York.

Captain Hate

Powerline at least keeps tabs on the dickholes in Minneapolis not doing a fucking thing about the murdering Somali cop and his complicit partner. Charge them both!

i've respected and admired Scott for many years (and used to exchange personal emails with him), but I especially admire the personal integrity he's shown in setting aside his cautious lawyerly instinct in order to see the value in the no-prisoners approach of trumpism.

my own view, fwiw, is that the approaches are complementary.

Old Lurker

Clarice, my basic packing strategy is to carry what I really need for the duration (lately electronics, drugs, glasses and contacts fill a carry-on) and to check nothing that cannot be replaced with a Visa Card. And I backup the Visa Card with two others. Really important things like drugs are backed up in Mrs. L's carry-on too, and again in my checked bag. The last thing I do is call my banker and say "We are going to AU & NZ; your job if I call you at any hour is to get the money to me if I need some."

exdemocrat

..and let's not forget that part of the responsibility for differentiating a 'statement of fact' from an 'informed speculation' lies with the reader too. not least because many things we presume to be facts are in actuality informed speculations.

Buckeye

She is undermining national security and foreign policy with statements like that, and apparently hates or fears Trump so much she doesn't care.

Clarice Feldman

I always carry those things with me, OL and now the electronic stuff takes up TOO MUCH SPACE, but as long as I'm responsible for my mother;s care, our trips are shorter and it's hard to replace (or have the bagge catch up to you if misplaced) on short hops. Anybody on the planet who believes anything written by anyone in the MSM except MAYBE the three or four we listed yesterday without telling oneself "this may or may not be true...why does he want me to think this?" deserves the serfdom that is his future.

exdemocrat

This is good http://www.nationalreview.com/article/455192/fbi-gave-hillary-co-special-treatment-during-email-probe, but what bugs me is that in removing the delta between "extremely careless" and "grossly negligent" (significant as that is) we don't stop short of the real issue:
that Clinton and the left went off the book for a purpose - to mask criminality and venality - not simply because they were 'grossly negligent.'
Qua MM, it's that purpose - rather than mere 'negligence' - that the masses may respond to with pitchforks.
