Walker says he won’t remove Chisholm as district attorney

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Gov. Scott Walker says he has no intentions of removing Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm from his job, despite calls from the chairman of the state Ethics Commission to do just that.

Walker said Thursday he has a high standard for removing someone who is in an elected position and nothing Chisholm has done rises to the level of warranting such a move.

The Democrat Chisholm helped lead a secret John Doe investigation into Walker and other conservative groups. The Wisconsin Supreme Court halted the probe in 2015, saying Walker and others had done nothing wrong.

The fallout has led to the state Senate voting to remove the head of both the state Ethics and Elections commissions.

Ethics Commission Chairman David Halbrooks last week called for Walker to remove Chisholm instead.

Tom,

This past couple of years exposes how tawdry and ordinary people really are, no matter what their elite education or political connections or wealth or power. I used to think that mankind would continue evolving, that our society and cities would, too. But, now we have city councils passing laws or ordinances making defecating on the street legal. Well, our public servants, the past administration, our elected officials in congress (democrats and some republicans), and our justice department are sh*tting on the American people.

I don't trust much of anything anymore -- not after what's been exposed through Trump's candidacy and election.

RG, AP is reporting that Russian intelligence is salivating for the release of the Nunes memo because it's going to reveal the FBI's evidence collection process's and a whole host of other law enforcement practices that will inform the Kremlin how they're being investigated by the United States of America.

RG, you and your ilk have literally have put our national security in jeopardy. You have betrayed your country and you've done it with a fucking smile.

henry

Ext, that is no surprise. Walker doesn't want to rile up the left in a reelection year. Or any other time. Most of his reforms got crammed down his throat by the legislature, with the exception of tax cuts. He is steady once it's done, but he is closer to "better way" than "get rid of government."

henry

As an example Walker is now considering a gas tax increase.

If it's evidence against Hillary, they collect it and destroy it for her.
If it's evidence for Hillary, they go to Russia and ask them for what Hillary paid them to concoct.
What Russia is really salivating about is learning how to do some of that fine Dem sponsored, FBI applied propaganda and smear jobs.

TK, have you never had the pleasure of working in a governmental agency? When a change in administration is accompanied by a change of party?

There are *massive* internal discussions going on right now within the FBI and the Department of Justice.

Massive.

Some of y'all write as if you are entirely unconcerned with this very important audience. Trump and Wray can't afford to be. That audience matters. Republicans within that audience need to be able to say the leadership is *not* being reckless, *is* being methodical, *and* is following the law.

Remember, this is all part of the process of FORCING Congress to do its damn job -- a job it has abdicated for quite some time. Part of this process is demonstrably showing the country Congress *is* doing its job, and the Executive branch is working with them but also respecting Executive branch concerns.

And it is also a subtle reminder that Congress is first among equals.

Doesn't that make sense?

Makes sense to me.

What I was talking about was the specifics of this comment:

Now, I gotta go continue celebrating on this victorious Tuesday (I hope y'all are celebrating, because last night was one hell of a victory) and, OL, I've been hip to your lets bait the HNIC game but . . . about this FBI statement. This is clearly part of the script. Who runs the FBI? Who runs the DOJ? Who is the boss of the Executive branch? Who just delivered a phenomenal State of the Union address ???

I don't get what this part of the script is accomplishing and why it is at the behest of Trump.

True, depressing as it is.

The memo's progress, on its way to the public's eyes, was helped by the FBI statement?

How?

Or there was some other expected outcome for the FBI statement?

I am not trying to not see what you are seeing. I just don't get it.

I think this is more easily explained tbat Wray is conflicted and trying to do the right thing for everyone and leans towards the executive. I can live with that.

The last minute FBI statement served no purpose to Trump or us, IMO. But I am willing to try to understand how you reasoned that it was part of the script.

That’s the last shred of any respect or liking I had for Walker, thrown in the shredder.

People who donated to him, supported him, volunteered for him, were persecuted by Chisholm and his goons. They were subjected to Nazi-style predawn raids, humiliated in their communities, forced to bankrupt themselves with legal fees, and forbidden to even speak about any of it thanks to the John Doe law that I can’t believe is constitutional in the first place. Their lives were torn apart because and only because they helped him get elected.

Walker effing OWES them. If he can’t or won’t acknowledge that, he’s a piece of garbage and he can go straight to hell, regardless of what he has accomplished.

Joan, Your lack of trust reminds me of me in earlier years. Lately I've been more optimistic, though I will say that optimism was nearly killed by the prospect of having to endure President Hillary. Then Trump restored hope by winning against almost all expectations, including my own.

But all of those things that have been exposed by Trump's election are the things that drive my reinvigorated optimism. We would never have found out about them had Hillary been elected. For decades stuff has been going on that we were never intended to discover because of MFM's lock on the news cycle. But then came the internet, and now with the Donald, we are finding out about all the corruption and we can fight it.

In his short time in office the Donald has inflicted substantial damage to MFM's ability to shape the news to their own liking. He also seems to be on the verge of crippling many of the rogues in the swamp. Proof of that will be when the indictments begin to come down. If none do then I expect I'll be joining you on the ledge. In the meantime I remain optimistic. More and more I lean towards the veranda, and it's because all this stuff is coming out. Think sunlight!

Under official rules, the committee is technically able to release such information after a five-day period unless the president objects. The committee formally started that clock with a vote this past Monday.

Is that correct? I thought the president had five days to object. If he states that he doesn't object at any time within that period, couldn't the memo be released immediately thereafter? Anyone know where these rules are documented?

Porch, a nit, just because...

"Definitely not. I was just addressing the train travel issue."

I know what you meant there of course, Porch, but in economics and finance there is the notion of "marginal costs" and up to a point it would support your point that one more person in a half empty train car adds zero cost, so no big deal. But people forget that that applies only within steps, eg if the train is full, the next passenger added forces the addition of an entire new car. Same things work everywhere in business from building plants to sizing AC units.

So in this case, hiring a train to take half of working congress people on a trip requires fewer cars than required if each critter can bring his spouse and up to eight kids...

Tom, 11:59: :)

I did sound bitter, didn't I. Part of it might be that I have the flu -- I almost died from it in back in high school --goodness, I am old :) I had the flu shot, also got Tamiflu.

"Hong Kong flu of 1968, also called Hong Kong flu pandemic of 1968, global outbreak of influenza that originated in China in July 1968 and lasted until 1969–70. The outbreak was the third influenza pandemic to occur in the 20th century; it followed the Asian flu pandemic of 1957 and the influenza pandemic of 1918–19 (also called Spanish flu). The Hong Kong flu resulted in an estimated one million to four million deaths, far fewer than the 1918–19 pandemic, which caused between 25 million and 50 million deaths."

I wax and wane about being optimistic. Just like with this memo and Rep. Nunes. No matter how enthused I get thinking "we're gonna get them", the democrats, like schiff, for example, get in there with the media, and twist and weaken our message. I thought, seeing and hearing Nunes, as well as other Republicans, that we absolutely were going to expose the past administration and their dirty tricks. Now, again, today it is delayed.

I got offline awhile ago after I wrote that post, started feeling guilty about it, and came out to saw your post. You are right to feel encouraged because HRC isn't president. Donald Trump is, and things will work out.

Definitely, more to do there than at the Homestead, but we like both as a waypoint traveling back and forth to Florida or New York. Back in the turn of the century (20th) my great-grandfather had a sports shop in Warm Springs.

BTW, the track in Crozet, VA at the intersection of Marymart Farm Road and Lanetown Road seems to at grade and level. The crossing appears to be an uphill drive to the track and then level. Strange but the Google maps view doesn't show the crossing safety equipment and warning light standards but shows a signal box, so it could be a Google anomaly.

Thomas Collins

Tom Bowler, I don't think the GOP will overplay its hand. On the other hand, this won't be a turning point in crushing the Resistance. It's going to be a continuing slog for the next several years. A few revelations that will embarrass certain members of the Resistance and cause McCabe type "retirements" are likely. Substantially shut down, I hope, will be Justice, FBI and intelligence agency critters monitoring Team Trump. FBI/DOJ reform to minimize the chance in the next few decades that these agencies may be weaponized in elections is my fondest hope. If not reform, at least a message to Mueller that there will be nuclear war if he tries to nail Trump on obstruction of justice charges.

Tom, Ha! I meant (when I copied that bit about the flu) to explain that I had the Asian flu: "....it followed the Asian flu pandemic of 1957," but started "talking" and didn't make that clear. I've always told my children that I had the 'Hong Kong' flu, trying to warn them how bad it was so they'd get the flu shot. Our daughter even used me in speeches she used to give about health -- I was her comic relief. :) Anyway, I was interested when I googled the HK flu and saw it actually followed "my" flu. So, I am 76. And if you're on our fb group, you'll see I can do 'inversion' yoga. :) Trembling. And with people ready to catch me if I fall over. :)

This flu I have now comes and goes. I'll feel good. Then think I'm going to collapse. The doctor is worried about this flu -- gave me strict instructions about proper nutrition, making certain I didn't live alone. I guess it can be awful. Right now I don't feel awful. I feel blah.
