Senate leadership has a budget deal with something for everyone except the deficit hawks and the Dreamers. McConnell has promised a separate Senate debate on immigration, although over in the House Ryan has not.

Former President George W. Bush says there's "pretty clear evidence that the Russians meddled" in the 2016 U.S. election.
He (and everyone else in his family) had absolutely NOTHING to say for eight years while Obama and the Dems systematically dismantled everything he accomplished in Iraq and Afghanistan, invalidating the sacrifices made by our soldiers (and throwing away the lives of thousands more of them in the bargain) wrecked the economy, threw the Constitution into a shredder, persecuted the voters who donated millions of dollars to him and put him into office, and slandered him personally at every possible opportunity.
Not one freaking word even mildly critical about ANY of that.
But when it comes to criticism of President Trump, he and the rest of the Bushes just can't shut up.

I got news for people like Jonah Goldberg and other Never-Trumpers who demoan Trump's "unstatesman-like" behavior and lack of "decorum":
It's gonna get much worse from here! You're really not gonna like what comes AFTER Trump.
Why? Because we now live in the culture created by the Left, where Millennials and those born after are becoming the largest bloc of voters.
These people grew up in a "reality-TV" culture, baby-sat by and raised watching countless hours of Jerry Springer, Maurie Povich, Phil Donahue, Oprah, Ricki Lake, et al and ad nauseum. Dysfunctional families and relationships, name-calling, sexual objectification, video game violence, etc., are their normal.
They've watched allegedly "mature" political leaders in the vaunted halls of Washington, DC, bitterly call themselves and others all sorts of derogatory names and slurs on TV, in their hyper-partisan games of oneupsmanship.
They have no clue what true statemanship, decorum, or functional relationships are.
Nor do they have the historical knowledge of what such leaders were in the past.
As I said, these are now the good years. I fear it gets much worse from here.
"Idiocracy" was a comedy farce a few years ago. Sadly, it will be viewed as a historical documentary much too soon.

“Have we seen "pretty clear evidence" of Russian meddling in the election? I know CrowdStrike accused them of hacking, but was "pretty clear evidence" ever produced?
Posted by: Extraneus | February 08, 2018 at 09:20 AM
Ive been saying this for some time now. All “they” have is “The DNC paid an IT company to say it was the Russians.” This would not be admissible in any Court of Law. Also Comey testified to Congress that if the hack was “Bad Actors”, …”technology would not be able to even tell they were there.” - much less who it was. Of course that had to do with the illegal Clinton server, but…

Where were all these RINO voices when Dems were beating us up in the streets?
Dems were caught on video admitting they PAID people to incite violence.

I think you will find that GWB was dipping into that Intel pot on US citizens. He probably built on what Clinton left him.
Betcha.

He has a lot to say after 8 years
Bush also criticized Trump’s decision to scrap a program implemented by former President Barack Obama’s administration that allows young immigrants living in the U.S. illegally who were brought here as children to remain in America.
“America’s their home,” the 43rd American president said. “They’ve got to get it fixed.”
Bush acknowledged that he tried to overhaul America’s “broken” immigration system, but failed.
“There are people willing to do jobs that Americans won’t do,” he said. “Americans don’t want to pick cotton at 105 degrees (Fahrenheit), but there are people who want put food on their family’s tables and are willing to do that. We ought to say thank you and welcome them.”
Bush in 2008 became the first sitting U.S. president to visit the UAE. He spoke Thursday at a summit in Abu Dhabi put on by the Milken Institute, an economic think tank based in California.

Yeah, I linked that yesterday in fact. Comey essentially saying that CrowdStrike shouldn't be believed.

I'm pretty sure if ANY of the county supervisors of elections all across the US used Kaspersky anti-virus on any of their computers at any time, they most likely inserted all kinds of virusus, worms, and backdoors that could be exploited by Russians at some point during elections.
But now that we know the CIA can mask CIA hacking activity leaving footprints that mimic Russian, Chinese, Iranian, or other hacking techniques, who could ever prove that it was foreign - and not US - cyber attacks?

If the Russians can hack the piece of paper I vote on (that was manually recounted last time), I might as well give up beer for vodka.

They don't mention Bush failed at immigration reform because he essentially wanted to do what the Dems wanted to do because he's so darned compassionate, and his party, especially the deplorable base, revolted and stopped him.

Much as I admired GWB for some things he did well, I know that he descends from a long line of "Betters" whose instincts were refined at Yale and Skull & Bones. His Mom taught him well too, and the damage can be seen in his daughters.

henry,
Attackers may not hack your paper ballot that's manually counted.
But they may hack the more centralized State government computers where those votes are tallied and then presented to the public.

The whole thing is just stupid. Who in their right mind thinks that Russia, or China, or any competitor country, would rather deal with Trump than Hillary? It's ridiculous.

I have little doubt the Clintons' and Russians' interests coincided in Hillary's run any more than I doubt the Chinese spent no small sum buying favors from BillyJeff for campaign cash in the 90s.

How much of that increased defense spending could have been realized by leaving Afghanistan to be the shithole it always will be and letting the Syrians murder each other without our assistance?
After 15 years and all that trillion dollars in the ME, what did we get?
A military that can kill camel jockeys but has let Russia and China dangerously erode our technical advantages.
W was a disaster.

"Have we seen "pretty clear evidence" of Russian meddling in the election? "
Phony dossier with Russian input, apparently thanks to:
Hillary
DNC
Fushion GPS
Steele
plus
Googly Eyes Schiff (trying to get pictures of naked Trump; I believe they were Ukrainians, but they sounded like Rooskies)
Posted by: Dirko | February 08, 2018 at 10:07 AM
We can also lay the blame for the shithole that is Libya directly on Sidney Blumenthal, Hillary, and Obama.

I hope this hasn't gone unnoticed: our side has been playing defense since Reagan. We're not doing that anymore. The left is on its heels and losing the debate and the ability to message.

sbw, the 60-vote rule didn't keep the Dems from getting rolled a few weeks ago with the shutdown. Let them filibuster and take the political heat. If it's a "long war," what is the advantage of delaying the start of it and conceding more territory?

Bingo, jimmy.

Actually the Dems stopped him too. The pushback against the immigration reform bill in 2007 was massively bipartisan.
Even Obama didn't bother trying it when he had supermajorities. He had to wait to do the stealth executive DACA.
Trump observed the obvious and drove it home and that's why he's in the WH today.

Former President George W. Bush says there's "pretty clear evidence that the Russians meddled" in the 2016 U.S. election."
He knows that Trump is the guy who may reveal that Bush illegally spied on Americans esp after 9/11 and Obama did too. Plus Obama always did it for naked political dirty tricks. Plus the usual petty tyrant statist bureaucrats who also did it for personal/vengeful/illegal reasons.
Major CYA mode on both sides
