At least one of these headlines looks wrong. Here is ABC News from last November:

And from Resistance HQ:
Indictment Makes Trump's Hoax Claim Harder To Sell
Although The Resistance will remain mystified this Gordian Knot can be cut by acknowledging that Trump has (mostly) claimed that the charge of Trump collusion with Russia is a hoax; he was a reluctant convert to the Russian meddling charge. But we knew that. Here is CNBC with a litany of Trump's claims.

Good morning from socked-in First Coast Florida where the sun is trying its damnest to burn off the fog.
In re using trusts and lawyers to buy homes and keep the owner secret, it is the normal practice in the Hamptons to use an LLC as the title holder. I have yet to see any home on Gin Lane or Meadow Lane listed other than an LLC selling and another LLC buying.
But that doesn't stop an intrepid reporter from researching the LLC and finding its major partners.

Tapper's salary is $300,000/year and the taxes and mortgage payments on the house are around $280,000.
The author makes the point that his wife isn't wealthy and is a stay-at-home mom, and that he didn't have much equity built up since he lived in a shabby apartment until a few years ago.

Captain Hate,
Celebrities involved in poliics can be traced back to JFK, whose brother-in-law, Peter Lawford, brought a whole bunch of Hollywood people out to campaign for him. I remember it distinctly because I was in junior high and the idea that movie stars cared about politics was something new. (Especially coming out of the Eisenhower years.)
Ever since then, stars from Hollywood have opened their mouths and annoyed half of the population, one way or the other. Now sports guys are doing it as well.
I think this has been a bad influence on American politics and society in general. I wish we could dial things back to the days when I didn't know how anyone voted.

Clarice, they don't make actual reporters anymore.
The crap we see at the national level is happening at the local levels too. I've seen the local papers (as expressed by their websites) in all the places I've lived go the same direction. Younger people are brought in that have been steeped in the nonsense, and the older ones continue to think the AP, WaPo, NYT are their betters and follow their lead.
Curious what SBW thinks. I know he's done his share of tilting at the AP windmill.

Mentioned to my hubs last night that local reportage is the shits, too.
Some new 'at the scene' reporter couldn't pronounce O co nee county and kept saying O con ee county. If you don't know the damn area you are reporting about, maybe you should educate yourself before pontificating about things. Just as ignorant of the suburbs as the DC fools are about flyover country.

Steph, my pet gripe of late is that the on air talent all seem to have gone to some "actors' seminar for TV" where they were told to emote more with their hands, words, and facial gestures.
So now they give you BS while looking and sounding like 7th grade acting class.
Posted by: Old Lurker | February 18, 2018 at 11:42 AM
Course, my other gripe having watched DC stations for 50 years is how come the stations can't get rid of the news readers who were cute and on their games back in the 70's but now just look as old and washed up as, well, I do?

There is a point on the spectrum of celebrity where they become somewhat divorced from reality. They surround themselves with sycophants who tell them what they want to hear.
When LeBron James feels the urge to make public comment about politics he's really just embarrassing himself. So let him go.
When celebrities step out side their field of expertise their always on very thin ice.
Stephen Hawking, who supposedly has an IQ of three zillion, feels the need occasionally to say publicly and categorically that there is no God. Perhaps he thinks his status as a cosmologist warrants this.
The simple truth is that he has not the slightest idea whether or not God exists.
Posted by: middyfeek | February 18, 2018 at 11:50 AM
“It would be amusing to see an actual journalist asking LeBron questions like, "What do you think of the tax reform legislation?"”
Exactly. Instead of inviting celebs to shut up, the far better approach would be to see their vacuous, soundbite views properly exposed for the nonsense they are.
We’d need actual journalists for that, however.
Posted by: exdemocrat | February 18, 2018 at 11:52 AM
That, too. OL. The ad libs by the on air copy readers is exasperating.
And the local news here is 4 - 7 with hourly resets reporting the same stories over and over and over BUT each of the first two report the story with a tease of "more to this story we are putting together for the 5 pm or 6 pm newscasts" to which I always bitch "what the f were you doing earlier in the day that you couldn't broadcast the whole damn story at once!!" I don't want to watch 3 damn hours of the same shit with more added each time. I thought 3 hours of news was so you could get it all at a time that was convenient to you, not to snag ratings numbers for 3 hours. Asses.

Shouldn't more be made of the fact that the indictments were explicitly not for interfering with the election, but for fraud of various kinds? Every MSM outlet is reporting it as some variant of "Russians indicted for interfering with the election," which is fake news. High Schools have gotten way, way too big. Large school size only helps matters unrelated to scholarship, such as maximizing sports team performance & having many goofoff electives. Among the casualties of large school size: academic performance & good conduct.
Gen. Dumas @paulhue
Turns out that low student number for the entire school is much more helpful than low student:teacher ratio. Money saved by herding so many students into shopping mall-sized schools is offset by lower academic performance & higher behavior incidents, especially when extrapolated.

Please don’t say I don’t know basketball.
I have been following it for years.

maryrose,
You have me confused with someone else. Never commented on your knowledge of basketball.

jimmy, I apologize for hashing your quote though. For the first time I'm using word on my new air Mac and it kept crashing so I missed it. You did not make a grammatical mistake--you said this indictment is--and for clarity I made it these indictments, missing the singular verb which followed the original.
If someone has a trick fo keeping word from crashing on an air Mac, please let me know. It drove me mad on Saturday..

And SBW most metro areas had 2 papers, a morning and evening one. One was usually more conservative and the other more liberal.
