Let me go in record with this now: if Fergie threatens us with another go at The Star Spangled Banner I will be kneeling and praying for an end to the brutality.

Reposting for sbw:
sbw,
There are Presidential Medals of Freedom that are given to first responders, civilian heros etc. The trope of giving him something unrecognized by the reciepient is forced acceptance. We give Medals of Honor posthoumously but why not that if he was considered military eligible? Makes no sense to me or my veteran community. We have been discussing all day.
BTW, West Point, Annapolis and Colorado Springs have all gone social justice and diversity oriented so the appointment is less than it would have been 25 years ago. They are starting to challenge Oberlin and Antioch for your prog college of choice.

I am still wondering why the Obama appointed top ICE Attorney in the Northwest US, Raphael A Sanchez, still has no posted picture?
Here's what we're given as pics of Mr Sanchez:

SEATTLE (AP) — The former chief counsel for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Seattle acknowledged in court Thursday that he stole the identities of people facing immigration proceedings and used them to run up credit card and other bills totaling more than $190,000.
Here's another:
What the hell is that about. All we're given are cartoon drawings of the Perp that Obama appointed as the head honcho to track down and oust illegal aliens? Does that make sense to anyone?
Raphael Sanchez, 44, oversaw deportation proceedings in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington before resigning when charges were filed Monday
So we unmask General Flynn but we put a cartoon mask on Obama's top Government criminal officials?

I guess I am an outlier on this one. I am fine with Fergie's rendition of our National Anthem. I just wish she hadn't apologized. Oh well, I guess she brought Americans of diverse stripes together in denunciation of her version. To hear people criticize her, one would think she had grabbed her nether area or dragged a flag on the ground. Throaty and mournful and passionate is fine with me for our National Anthem.

Yes. I am glad to see he is still around, only under a different name.
Vachel Lindsay wrote one of my all-time favorite poems, "General William Booth Enters Into Heaven."
https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poetrymagazine/poems/12631/general-william-booth-enters-into-heaven
Lindsay felt that poetry should have musical accompinament, as you can see in this example.
General William Booth was, of course, the founder of the Salvation Army.
Here is the YouTube of his funeral in 1912, with narration and music.

I have a great fondness for the Salvation Army, which was exceedingly kind to my dad when he was in the Army in North Africa and Italy. He always gave to them at Christmas, and I do, too.

Trump should have just kept his mouth shut about this. He is showing weakness here and will merely lose some support in his base. I am q1uite disappointed with him. It is, as the say "low energy".
And as for "the problem", one needs to consider false flag direct action, not to mention the indirect actions amounting to the decay and rot of our society. There really is no "problem" to solve other than exposing and then out the Deep State and their Nomenklatura, and returning to a sane society.
To start down the path that there is "a problem" with gun ownership is a grave error. Trump should have stood up to them. Now the GOP will cave, the Left will be emboldened--and not just on this "issue"--and we could well start down the slow of unraveling what is left of the moral force behind MAGA. No good and much harm will come of this. I am surprised he step forward with it. It shows he is out of touch with a substantial portion of his base, or that he was being dishonest in the first place. It shows that he can be pushed around by MSM generated hysteria.
There was no need to do this,; the hysteria would have passed, and he could have used it to bludgeon the deep state operatives in the FBI (and elsewhere). A very stupid and ill-considered move on his part--perhaps his very first one.

squaredance,
I no longer try to outguess Trump's actions. I think he is trying to do 2 things:
1. Get some bipartisan stuff going with the few democrats who are willing, and demonstrate that the vast majority are NOT willing to work with him.
2. Remove any criticisms of his White House in anticipation of the midterms.
Adams thinks he is moving into another stage of his presidency where he is trying to bring in people who didn't vote for him.
Somme of the major things he needs to yet do (Immigration and the Wall, for example) need more than the current numbers of GOP in Congress.

All he needs to do about immigration is enforce the law. If he where to send the DACA bunch back home he would be assure 2018 and his reelection. Letting them stay will be the beginning of the end for us (and him). Here too he is in error.
As for the Wall, start throwing some Dems in prison, crack down of voter fraud and exposing their crimes and the wall will come soon enough, not to mention blasting the Dems out of the water in November. He certainly has the intel and the evidence to do so. It could not be more simple and it is what many (most?_) hoped for when they voted for him. Thus your point just sound like a rationalization to me; in fact it sounds like Trump is "moving towards the center", a move that will be fatal for him (and the rest of us too). So your argument makes no sense.
And I have no idea what you mean by "outguess"? Sound like you mean forming and independent opinion based on actual actions and facts. facts. I certainly am not trying to "outguess" him, whatever that means. You may be ok with blindingly following leaders, but I am not. That is how we got here in the first place.
Trump campaigned on "trust me your guns are safe." Now he wants the AG to "look at the problem", and AG, I might add that is letting the Dems get away with bloody murder. He has let the Left frame the issue and he apparently has gone back on his word.
There was no reason to do this. It is a blunder.

Trump: I’ve Directed AG ‘to Propose Regulations to Ban All Devices That Turn Legal Weapons Into Machine Guns’
I know others will disagree, but I think this is a good move, and not just politically. Machine guns have been banned for decades and even gun people agree with the rule.
Reportedly, Trump is also open to an AR-15 age limit. Big deal. Who really wants 18-year-olds to have AR-15s? I'm a gun rights person, with a 20-year-old son, and I don't. Even car insurance actuaries say that men are not normal until after age 25.
Good move by Trump I think.

You'd think they could ultimately agree to ban AR-15s, but that would require banning just about all semi-autos, and pistols are semi-autos. (Blam, blam for each trigger pull.)
They went with the scariness factor last time - which had no effect on lethality - in order to avoid the pistol issue, but a general semi-auto ban is not gonna ever happen. Trump is free to throw them a few bones.
Posted by: Extraneus | February 20, 2018 at 07:17 PM
daddy,
I pay attention to the polls they push, adn Brett almost always uses Washington Post, which right there tells you he's a Beltway elite type.
Casual listeners only pay attention to the results. I look at the source, and this one can be discounted.
Brett is a huge disappointment to me. Like I said, he went on and on about rehearsing that opening GOP debate with Megyn Kelly, so although she got most of the criticism he should get a fair amount as well.

Posted by: henry | February 20, 2018 at 07:17 PM
" Machine guns have been banned for decades "
All machine guns are not banned, at least not at the Federal level. Some states have banned machine guns (for non-law enforcement common folk), of course some states/towns have banned semi-auto "assault" rifles as well. Any machine gun manufacturer prior to 1986 may still be transferred. They fall under the NFA and have a tax and background check process that takes several months.
Legal machine guns in action....

If I could arrange it I'd find whatever channel they play in the decenter bars in Sydney. Usually it's short clips of surfing or skiing, then bikini gals and interesting animals and cool topography, replayed over and over again at just the right interval to make you want to watch when it comes around again. I'd place that in every Airline terminal in the free world and dump CNN. That'd improve the mental health of millions of travelers and make this a much happier world. Let's figure out how to Tax Bill Gates a couple Billion and make it work.

My daughter had 3 insurance damage claims today from a certain shipping company. All of the claimants had Hispanic names, and all had Russian accents.
My daughter can spot this stuff because she used to date a Russian guy and now dates an Hispanic.
Got any ideas? Is there a witness protection program in operation? Is there an identity theft ring in action?
Very weird!

From my tri-pod dog page today:
While on a walk with Paige (my tripod):
Teenager: “Wow, like, your dog totally has three legs!”
Me: “Yes.”
Teenager: “Sooooo, does she have a hard time getting around?”
Me: “She used to have only two legs. It’s been much easier for her since the third one grew in.”
Teenager: “Oh my God. Like, for real?”
Me: “Yes.” (stares blankly)
Teenager: (waves at Paige) “Byee, sweetie!”
We are a doomed society.

Let me understand this: There are some constitutional rights that carry and age limit? How does that work exactly? What other parts of the bill of rights can be so "interpreted" into law with out an amendment ratification process? Well, evidently all of them. Why does one clearly defined right not have the same protection as other rights? Should we have a background check to exercise those other rights as well..sar the first amendment?
Again, the actual "problem" is not gun ownership. Letting the left get away with framing it this way is a disaster. It is surprising that JOMers do not see just how bad this is.
(and btw, one can have machine guns if one has the money and the connections, and the ban on them is of questionable constitutionality.)
Amazing how some can be lead by their nose to the stripping of heir rights based on false flags and media hysteria.
"smart move", indeed. (as if trading on our rights to "score points" in a totally contrived "crisis" is in any way "intelligent".)
Again, a real blunder, as the following days will show.

Thanks for the reminder, BOE on Barkley and Moore. When I Google his name and Trump he seems all over the place. From asking everyone to give him a chance to this:
"“Thank you, Republicans. I know I can always count on y’all to take care of us rich people, the 1 percenters,” Barkley said. “Sorry, poor people. I’m hoping for y’all, but y’all don’t have no chance.”
I think I will send her a card and save my $. He will probably take his time at the podium to say something equally stupid.

Because of the College Bills I am maximizing my income. I could work a bit less but I hate debt.
Daddy, it was a great feeling when Buckeyette graduated and I knew I didn't have to write those checks anymore.
I don't think CalTech will likely end up on the six year program, so sounds like your timing will be perfect.
I have a couple of friends who fly for NetJets. Bet you could do something like that after "retirement".

Trump's job is most manifestly not to "do something" to make the "Feelers" feel good. His job is to stand up for our rights, stop the erosion of liberty, law and constitutional government and restore the nation. He looks weak, cynical and dishonest in this, and so do some hereabouts, i might add.
Giving any ground on this issue in not in any way, shape or form "good".
Between this and the DACA amnesty that is surely coming, Trump looks to lose no small part of his support.
