Miss Marple the Deplorable

Now I am going back to bed for a bit. Those links should keep everyone occupied for a while!

Captain Hate

This thread discusses the background on how FISA operates, why it was instituted, and some of Mueller's past cover-ups.

Yesterday I was listening to Rush as I was driving to pick up Teddy who was having his hair trimmed. I admired Rush's passion and outrage but he pissed me off when he said FISA was a post 9/11 creation and I just thought "no, you idiot, it was a post-Watergate creation, by the Church commission iirc, which adds a whole additional level of irony to this sordid tale".

I turned him off and listened to Tammy on my phone. IMO it was inexcusable for him not to know that.

The Infamous Ignatz

--Rod Rosenstein's wife Lisa Barsoomian...--

Holy crap, he's married to an alien from Mars?
We're gonna need a bigger wall.

The Infamous Ignatz

I have heard the excuse Rosenstein and others signing off on FISA warrants were probably misled or ignorant. Same with FISA judges.

This is the argument?
We have a system that allows the government to spy on Americans and we don't require any due diligence on the part of those who are supposed to oversee the spies?

We have also heard that FISA virtually never turns down an app, which is supposed to show how righteous the apps are.
Taranto would call that news of the tautological. Seems they almost never get turned down because the court believe whatever they're told.

We damn well better start caring who watches the watchmen after it's been proven they're lying to watch US.

Marlene

Good Morning! Thanks to JOM,I'm caught up on the memo release. We have visitors this week-end,including a three year old,so I've been a bit distracted. :) This morning we're watching Looney Tunes, which makes more sense than the insane news. Have a great week-end everyone!

Buckeye

Local Department of Motor Vehicles does better than these clowns.

Time for an overhaul.

Loved this one;

I really like the deputy press secretary Raj Shah. He was ust on Fox and Friends and gave ca,m. genial answers to all questions, including the memo's legality. He said they welcome other documents to add to the discussion. (I assume he was referring to the dem counter-memo.)

In a meeting with Chairman Devin Nunes, FBI Director Christopher Wray and others, the source says that Rosenstein threatened to subpoena the texts and emails of Congress because he was”tired of dealing with the Intelligence Committee.” If true, Rosenstein must resign or be fired

Andrew C. McCarthy‏Verified account @AndrewCMcCarthy

My working theory: neither side wants full disclosure. For Dems, it would show reliance on dossier. For Reps, govt theory was Putin could have blackmail material on Trump. Flattering to neither, so we’ll not get disclosure and keep arguing over snippets and shadows.
======================================

Any, one again, proves why I would rather listen to Greg Jarrett.

The idea that there could be blackmail material on President Trump was based on FAKE INFORMATION in the dossier. How is that unflattering? I could say crap about Andy McCarthy that isn't true. How is that embarrassing to Andy?

rse

Since I am stuck watching far more tv than is my norm I have been comparing nbc to abc coverage as well as what I also know about how ed wants to rewire the brain to "guide attention and intention." One of the propaganda concepts not appreciated in both k-12 as well as the media is substituting what are called refutation texts instead of expository texts.

The excuse is that one is more memorable, but it came to my attention in a paper brookings created about a week ago to correct misconceptions about the common core. Since I had the technical knowledge I knew that the brookings narrative was also deliberately false in numerous areas.

That's what the media wants and how they want the fbi memo, russia collusion, obama and hillary etc to be interpreted by us. They want us to simply accept the refutation text they transmit or publish with the memes they have established for us to use. Because most of us here at jom are news junkies with actual demonstrable knowledge we know we are being played.

It's all institutions doing this now though because the idea is that individuals should be subject to political direction and autonomy should be nominal and not genuine.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Mark Penn was on Fox just now and he said he wasn't making any accusations against Rosenstein, but he didn't know how he could continue to supervise the Special Counsel since he is a WITNESS, given his signature on one of the FISA applications.

I thought that was an excellent point and one which mo one has brought up so far.

I am also left with mouth agape wondering why a democrat of his prominence is speaking out about this. Maybe he has a long-held grudge against Hillary.

Old Lurker

Raise your hand if you agree with me that the three most creepy big name actors in this whole production yet to walk onto the stage are: Brennan, Clapper, and Obama.

He could actually be a decent human being, MM, but then it’s hard to see how he could still be a Democrat at all.

Not an original thought, but the biggest takeaway is that Trump is mother loving tough. Name an R that could have put up with this shite and still cast the ashes back in their eyes. Hashtag just win elections. It’s the only antidote.

Does anyone know what 8ch.net is? I found a link in the comments of Instapundit which led to this and had my eyebrows visiting my hairline:

NEW DILLEY INTEL DROP
f acebook.com/dilleyforcongress/videos/vb.303956383430515/321835941642559/?type=3&theater
Main drop: TRUMP won the popular vote.
This will come out in the next 2 weeks. The NSA went through the data and as of 25th jan 18 the votes are:
TRUMP:70,125,263
Killery: 57,177,958
With killery getting approx 7 million votes from machine fraud….

Legit? Who is Dilley?

"he wasn't making any accusations against Rosenstein, but he didn't know how he could continue to supervise the Special Counsel "

That is big news. Who knew anyone was supervising Mueller?

Jack is Back!

Bunky,

He's from Queens, did High School in a military school, lived and worked in the New York City construction and real estate business, doesn't drink. He has seen tougher guys and situations than any congresscritter with the exception of the Iraq and Afghan vets like Cotton and Zeldin.

Look at that braindead goof McCain. Think Trump doesn't live daily in what is left of his mind?

Captain Hate

it really is stretching credulity to see how Sessions is playing 4D chess, or that Rosenstein is secretly wearing a White Hat.

I can possibly seeing Sessions quietly playing his part as one of a number of people involved in taking down a massive and widespread operation, unlike a worthless self serving grandstander like that shitstain Holder, but Rosenstein is as filthy as they get and anyone believing otherwise are delusional.

The Infamous Ignatz

I find that highly unlikely Robin.

Wopner

"the source says that Rosenstein threatened to subpoena the texts and emails of Congress because he was”tired of dealing with the Intelligence Committee.”"

Obstruction of Justice! Obstruction of Justice! Mueller needs to investigate Rosenstein!

Robin, Tiger Beat Pompom Girl REHAB Team

So those 8ch.net folks are saying that the leadership of the actions to take down Trump will not be handled in the judicial courts but in military tribunal courts.

MM, they are also saying that Thomas Paine, this Dilley character who is apparently running for Congress, Hannity, and Anon are the recipients of information from inside the operation.

I don’t know how legit any of this is, but it sure does read like a good espionage novel!

Tom Bowler

Raise your hand if you agree with me that the three most creepy big name actors in this whole production yet to walk onto the stage are: Brennan, Clapper, and Obama.

Not sure that those are the most creepy, OL. But I do agree that Obama was an active player in this. It occurs to me that Obama's expulsion of 35 Russian diplomats in late December 2016 was intended as bait for Trump officials to be in contact with the Russians.

This is also an important piece of information.

The Infamous Ignatz

--I thought that was an excellent point and one which mo one has brought up so far.--

Gus and I discussed it in this very thread.

Robin, Tiger Beat Pompom Girl REHAB Team

Probably, Ig, but it’s fascinating all the same.

I have to say that the idea of military tribunals for Clinton,Obama, etc. is certainly intriguing.

Rocco

Good Morning, babysitting duties and this have me trying to catch up.

Did anyone catch El Presidente on Tucker last week?

Sammy small

My first reaction to the memo is why it was classified at all. If this can be claimed due to sources and methods, then anything from the feds can. Classified material was once used to protect information from being revealed to the enemy or other state players. Nowadays it apparently protects information solely from the American public.

Robin, Tiger Beat Pompom Girl REHAB Team

My theory about Sessions, which somebody alluded to upthread somewhere, is that he has to preserve the institution of the DOJ while cleaning house. So he pays lip service to the good people in office while offering Rosenstein the rope to hang himself. There is no other reason for Trump to keep him on that I can see.

Old Lurker

A good VDH:

http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/456084/nunes-memo-fbi-doj-corruption-ticking-memo

Old Lurker

Robin, VDH in my 8:58 link gets into that some regarding the FBI.

In short he asks whether "saving the FBI" refers to the entire organization of mostly highly competent soldiers, or whether it is the dozen or so in the FBI Executive Suite. I think that applies to the DoJ and the other soon to be tainted agencies as well.

Extraneus

My first reaction to the memo is why it was classified at all.

I think because all FISA stuff is classified. That's why we never knew for sure that there was or were warrants, or who signed. The fact that Page was the target of a warrant was classified.

rse

https://www.frontpagemag.com/fpm/269211/memo-reveals-coup-against-america-daniel-greenfield is also good.

iggy=I was trying to figure out what you were disagreeing with me about. Ooops.

Robin, Tiger Beat Pompom Girl REHAB Team

Question, is it true that RICO cases have no statute of limitations?

OL, agreed. I am an optimist, so I think we will see bright sunlight cast on all the malfeasance. Call me crazy or naive, but I don’t see how the good guys don’t win here.

Beasts of England

Having held intelligence caveats and worked with TS/SCI product, it's laughable that any of the released memo was a threat to national security.

Jack is Back!

If you can corrupt and weaponize politically the DoJ and FBI to this extent, then what is like at the other agencies? Now, I have a better understanding why the Department of Education ordered millions of rounds of ammunition.

rse

I think this is the crucial point vdh made and what should be the bullet points in a non-pravdaesque media.

"Is This a Scandal? If all this is not a scandal — then the following protocols are now considered permissible in American electoral practice and constitutional jurisprudence: An incumbent administration can freely use the FBI and the DOJ to favor one side in a presidential election, by buying its opposition research against the other candidate, using its own prestige to authenticate such a third-party oppositional dossier, and then using it to obtain court-ordered wiretaps on American citizens employed by a candidate’s campaign — and do so by deliberately misleading the court about the origins and authors of the dossier that was used to obtain the warrants."

Threadkiller
Prosecutors say witness testimony, audio and video evidence, plus bullet trajectory analysis yielded one conclusion: FBI agent W. Joseph Astarita lied about firing two shots at the truck of refuge occupation spokesman Robert "LaVoy" Finicum in 2016 after he swerved into a snowbank.

The information is detailed in a 32 page government response to Astarita's motion to dismiss the federal indictment against him. He's pleaded not guilty to three counts of obstruction of making false statements and two counts of obstruction of justice. Astarita's lawyer claimed the indictment was based on "junk science".

The government response also reveals that Oregon State Police SWAT troopers at the scene, ordinarily required to wear body cameras, didn't that day at the request of the FBI. The FBI did obtain video from FBI surveillance planes flying above the scene.

State police detectives also normally record interviews of officers who might be involved in a shooting, but they didn't that night when questioning the FBI Hostage Rescue Team members, again at the FBI's request. A follow-up interview with the hostage team members also came with unusual conditions, prosecutors note.

http://www.oregonlive.com/oregon-standoff/2018/02/fbi_told_oregon_state_police_n.html

Like I said a couple of days ago, MM, when you asked why the FBI agents don't record their interviews, it is so they can abuse the witnesses.

Yeah, maybe Ficum should have kept his hands up, but I don't see how that would have stopped the assassination attempts, that the feds lied about, while he was driving to safety.

Old Lurker

Ditto that, rse.

Janet 🚬

"there's no evidence of Russian government interference with the 2016 election, but there's plenty of evidence of US government interference with the 2016 election. The latter ought to be far more disturbing. All foreign governments can be expected to pursue their national interests as they see fit. That the most powerful forces within your own government decide to subvert the election result is far more bizarre, and far graver."

https://www.steynonline.com/8431/un-candid-in-camera

and this -

" Carter Page, the peripheral Trump campaign volunteer who was the target of the surveillance, was not represented in court. In fact, he did not even know he was on "trial". A year and a half after he attracted the attentions of Deputy Director McCabe and his chums, Mr Page has not been charged with a single crime, never mind (to be old-fashioned about these things) convicted of one."

boris

... it was only about Carter Page and FISA abuse ...

So why then was the Trump dossier necessary to obtain the FISA warrant on Carter Page?

boris

Invites speculation of a type unwelcome to the dimorats, FBI, DOJ, and MSM doncha think.

Hope that question comes up in Clarice's column.

Iggy,

Although you and Gus discussed it, I missed it, as did the general public, so that is why I was glad to see someone bring it up.

Threadkiller,

Thanks for that article. Once again, what is the culture of the FBI that they ask for this type of opaqueness in their actions?

I really, really want to know why this is still allowed.

Bunky

JiB: roger that. The skills needed to build in NYC are quite transferable to DC politics. What we all want to see is younger Rs learning that if you stand up for yourself to these paper tigers, you win. GW his daddy never learned that. Trump also gets that when he stands up for himself he is standing up for his voters.

Porchlight

Robin at 8:57, that is my view of Sessions as well.

For some reason my friend Iggy considers Clive Bundy et al a bunch of unsympathetic deadbeats, and maybe he's right, but you can't help but contrast the way Comey's gumshoes handled taking over some dogshit sparsely used park building in Oregon versus the just as illegal high exposure Occupy bullshit. Three different episodes CH.
In NV Cliven Bundy refused to pay the grazing fees on his BLM lease and refused to remove his cattle when it was revoked.
I don't think the Feds have any business retaining 50-90% of Western states but as long as they do lessees should pay the lease.
The BLM's response was stupid and someone should at the least be fired for the withholding of evidence.

In OR Bundy's kid and company occupied a wildlife refuge in protest of how a couple of OR ranchers had been treated. The Feds, for once, showed some restraint until Finicum and others left. The roadblock was unnecessary and almost certain to end badly.
However the video is clear that shooting him was justified.
The shots the FBI guy fired that started it weren't and neither was his lying about it. Had he not shot Finicum would not have gotten out of his pickup. However once he did, his actions virtually guaranteed he would be shot to the extent it could plausibly be characterized as suicide by cop.

The truly wronged parties, were the father and son in OR who the BLM and DOJ railroaded that the Bundy kid was protesting.

An overzealous and dishonest government doesn’t mean every person that opposes them is a hero or even sensible.

Maybe Finicum was a jackass who I wouldn't have liked in real life but I don't see how you can criticize his actions AFTER the FBI has already fired into his car. If that had been me it would be pretty obvious that things weren't going to end up well for me and I honestly can't state what I'd do under those circumstances but it almost for sure would be different if I hadn't already been shot at.
