A review of Eastwood's new film on the three Americans who thwarted a terror attack on a train in Europe. Spoiler alert - the good guys win.
Things I did not know - the three leads are played by themselves, although the supporting cast includes professional actors. Between this and Black Panther I might actually see some movies this month.

As a contrast to DC, the things the WI legislature is working on to rein in govt: base budgeting (ie govt agency, justify your existence); oversight of "guidance documents" (Sen Johnson has a similar bill being ignored in DC), welfare reform and more.
Note in WI, the Rs can operate even if the Dems fleebag again. even then RINOs slow down reform. DC has bigger uniparty issues plus the 60 vote Senate thing. It will take longer to fix that.

I am home and anonamom's diagnosis was the same: "transient global amnesia."
I wil have to get an echocardiogram, a brain wave test, and a scan of my carotid arteries in the next couple of weeks just to be sure I am not having mini-seizures, minor heart interruptions or small blood clots, but he doubts it as something else would have been detected (except the brain waves) when I went to see my cardiologist/high blood pressure doc two weeks ago.
He sees no reason that I can't drive unless something odd shows up on those tests. They can all be done at their facility and will be scheduled together, so as soon as that is done I am good to go! Yay!
He said if I need to run a short errand with my daughter's car, no problem.
Whew! I had to do a whole bunch of things with walking, balance, eye movement, repeating words forwards and backwards, etc.

I am not used to that in a medical office. My sister said it is now common, and that she even works with an anesthesiologist from time to time who has full sleeve tattoos so he wears long shirts in the OR so patients won't get freaked out.
Also, I guess because of the types of people they see in that practice, there were signs everywhere saying things like "For your personal safety, do not attempt to adjust the blinds" and "Turn left to exit" and "Do not stand on chairs."

working on catch up and saw this quote about immigration ...
>>>“Americans don’t want to pick cotton at 105 degrees (Fahrenheit), but there are people who want put food on their family’s tables and are willing to do that. We ought to say thank you and welcome them.”<<<
But some darkies from Central America do like pickin' cotton when it is 105 outside and they might have some darkie music while they do it ... really, really can't believe that Bush said that or that it ever became a reasonable argument in the immigration debate-it is racist on its face.
it is also just a matter of time when technology is going to be applied to agricultural labor and "all those jobs American's don't want to do" are going to be done by German robots, Israeli cameras, and Asian programmers ... if a camera and s/w can recognize a human face, a camera, robotic arm, and s/w can pick a tomato ...

Why would he worry about the FBI hearing him?

From the previous thread:
The Obama apologists are claiming that of course "potus wants to know everything," because he was getting briefed about Russia's interference in the election. Nothing to do with the Hillary e-mail investigation. The problem with that theory is that if you look at the texts that day and the surrounding days, their pretty clearly focused on the e-mail issue. For example, they talk about the "breaking on NYT.com" story on the emails. There's no mention that I saw of Russia and the election.
Couple of points:
1. The leftwing media is claiming that the texts were not concerned with the Hillary investigation because the WSJ 'debunked" that theory. The debunking came from some unnamed associated of Strzok and Page in the FBI. For all we know it could be Andrew McCabe or Jim Comey who was the WSJ source of the "debunking".
2. Why would Obama want to get briefed on the "Russia hacked the election" investigation when he already knew that was a false narrative crafted by the Democrats?
3. Strzok was the FBI agent in charge of the Hillary email server investigation. On the same day (2 SEP 2016)the text mentioning Obama was sent, the WAPO published an article about the FBI investigation of Hillary's email server. It was the big news item of the day.

It isn't getting much coverage in the media but the strategy in Afghanistan under Trump has completely changed from what it has been the past 15+ years. We are now actively destroying the Taliban's opium industry which in turn will significantly impact their revenue stream.

Excellent piece linked by lurkersusie @ 12:01. In it, Mollie Hemmingway discusses the anonymously sourced WSJ piece claiming that what "potus" wanted to know about was the Russia investigation, not the Hillary email investigation.
While the libs are gleeful about the "debunking" of the original idea that Obama was reviewing the Hillary email investigation, Mollie explains how much more interesting it is if in fact the talking points were about the Russia investigation.

As someone who prefers fiscal responsibility I'm conflicted on the Senate budget deal but taking the pragmatic view that overall its a good thing.
It's ridiculous that for several years now the government has been forced to operate on Continuing Resolutions with the threat of government shutdowns due to both parties refusing to compromise. To get 60 votes to overcome a filibuster means each side gets something they want out of the compromise deal. Whatever deal gets made is always going to mean more taxpayer money gets spent on programs each party supports. The only difference is who controls the House. If the GOP is in control then more money gets spent on programs the GOP supports. Vice versa when the Democrats are in charge. Congress has always worked this way.
The concept of "fiscal conservativism" has become an idealistic pipe dream fantasy. It will never happen even if it is the best thing for the fiscal future of the country. There is no way to enforce fiscal conservatism constraints on the federal budget without cutting entitlement spending like Social Security, Medicare etc and that is political suicide if anyone actually tried to do that. The US is a welfare state and I don't see any way that will ever change.
Knowing that is the case, from a pragmatic point of view I am glad that the military is finally no longer suffering from sequestration limits. That was having a serious impact on the physical well-being of the troops, their families, and equipment materiel readiness.

Obama holdover running the show
$20 Billion Hidden in the Swamp: Feds Redact 255,000 Salaries
The only thing the bureaucratic resistance hates more than President Trump is the disclosure of their own salaries. It’s a classic case of the bureaucracy protecting the bureaucracy, underscoring the resistance faced by the new administration.
Recently, Open the Books filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (pictured) for all federal employee names, titles, agencies, salaries, and bonus information. We’ve captured and posted online this data for the past 11 years. For the first time, we found missing information throughout the federal payroll disclosures. Here’s a sample of what we discovered from the FY2017 records:
254,839 federal salaries were redacted in the federal civil service payroll (just 3,416 salaries were redacted in FY2016).
68 federal departments redacted salaries. Even small agencies like the National Transportation Services Board and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation redacted millions of dollars in salaries.
$20 billion in estimated payroll now lacks transparency.
A 7,360 percent increase in opacity hides one out of every five federal salaries.
Who’s the bureaucrat in charge? Not a Trump appointee – the president doesn’t even have a current nominee at OPM. So, the buck stops with new acting Director Kathleen McGettigan, a 25-year staffer who assumed the position because she was the next in line, not because the White House appointed her.

www.fas.org/irp/agency/doj/fisa/woods.pdf
one thing i noticed right away: one of the 3 main items that must be addressed is "the existence and nature of any prior or ongoing asset relationship between the subject [PAGE] and the FBI."
So the fact that Page worked for the FBI undercover since 2013, and was an instrumental witness in their prosecution of several Russian spies in 2016, was presumably clearly stated to the FISC, yes?

"Goolag spying on you via your cell phone. (it location tracks even in "airplane mode")."
Anyone who uses anything provided by Google assigns little to no value to their privacy. And not just Google, but 3rd party apps as well. Uber had gotten in trouble for continuing to track users after their ride was over - https://www.npr.org/sections/alltechconsidered/2016/12/01/503985473/uber-now-tracks-passengers-locations-even-after-theyre-dropped-off (Uber claims they no longer do this). Apple is probably not much better but at least their business model is not primarily focused on marketing data (third parties).
Also, certain Intel chips can be access even if your computer is turned off: "Almost all AMT features are available even if the PC is in a powered-off state but with its power cord attached" - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Active_Management_Technology
There are some companies working on developing PCs and phones that use firmware/software that is 100% open source (usually meaning linux based).
