The memo came from Schiff's hole. As aromatic as expected.

That aside, it confirms the dossier is the thing that got the FISA warrant. Publishing Schiff's bluff dump was not the Schiffy plan.

Last one out of DC, flush twice.

Frau: Still puzzling over what has changed in the past fifty+ years in the US and what has not.
It must be a toxic combination of changes that brought us where we are.

Two expressions of the reason are found in Individuals, Journalism, and Society” and in ”Take Back Your News” that I’ll release this week.

It falls in line with Antonio Gramsci’s winning by means of a long march through the institutions. (Not his phrase, but his idea.)

Frau: Your "what's change" comment coincides with an email forward from Paw this morning. Featured a pic of a 1910 Ford.

Underneath the Ford pic was the f0llowing list of selective factoids about American dolce vita in 1910....note the murder stat near the bottom of the list:

Here are some statistics for the Year 1910:

The average life expectancy for men was 47 years.

Fuel for this car was sold in drug stores only.

Only 14 percent of the homes had a bathtub.

Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone.

There were only 8,000 cars and only 144 miles of paved roads.

The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.

The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower!

The average US wage in 1910 was 22 cents per hour.

The average US worker made between $200 and $400 per year.

A competent accountant could expect to earn $2,000 per year, a dentist $2,500 per year, a veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000 per year, and a mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year.

More than 95 percent of all births took place at HOME.

Ninety percent of all Physicians had NO COLLEGE EDUCATION! Instead, they attended so-called medical schools, many of which were condemned in the press AND the government as 'substandard.'

Sugar cost four cents a pound.

Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen.

Coffee was fifteen cents a pound.

Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used Borax or egg yolks for shampoo.

Canada passed a law that prohibited poor people from entering into their country for any reason.

The five leading causes of death were:

1. Pneumonia and influenza

2. Tuberculosis

3. Diarrhea

4. Heart disease

5. Stroke

The American flag had 45 stars.

The population of Las Vegas Nevada was only 30!

Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and iced tea hadn't been invented yet.

There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day.

Two out of every 10 adults couldn't read or write and only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from high school.

Eighteen percent of households had at least one full-time servant or domestic help.

There were about 230 reported murders in the ENTIRE U.S.A. (but almost everyone had a gun!)

What has changed:
1. The removal of God from the public square
2. The destruction of the nuclear family
3. The "dumbing down" of the teaching of hisory, literature, and the sciences
4. The glorification of sex over love

I was listening to the JOM kollidge radio station a few minutes ago and this song came on. I thought "this doesn't sound like something Del Shannon would've done on a cash in on the codgers tour; it sounds like something a group like Scruffy the Cat would have done."

What do I win?

It struck me how bad this document is, it deletes facts already in the public record.

Jim Eagle

In Re our celebrity JOMer.

I knew it from day one. Our old friend is drinking a nice Grey Goose martini about now and laughing out loud on the beaches of Coranado Beach.

We all know him as Danube.

Jim Eagle

The professor is right. Government continues to fail us. Time to take back our laws and their enforcement.

Just watched an interview with Ivanka Trump on NBC (Olympics) and I have to say she is a very beautiful woman. Never had seen her up close before.

I don't think I would support Delta bumping paid first class passengers for Olympic athletes, despite their NRA decision.

I agree with Porch on this.

Haven’t seen anything about bumping first class passengers on Delta. Pointer?

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Then Delta should have SAID that the seats were already full and they couldn't bymp people who had already paid for First Class or who had prior upgrades.

They certainly need a new PR guy.

Beasts of England

She is stunning, JiB.

He was in school in Miami Gardens, JiB - which is in Broward county.

Posted by: Beasts of England | February 25, 2018 at 11:17 AM

BoE, Miami Gardens is definitely in Dade County. It sits on the county line with Broward but is within Dade County.

And Trayvon was a student in the Dade system.

matt - deplore me if you must

Did DoT do something of which I am unaware? Did he thwart a crack tem of North Korean female infiltrators singlehandely and save Coronado from the Red Menace? Or is it just his general daily awesomeness we are discussing. I miss him.

Had to laugh at both the BBC and the Chinee yesterday. We imposed sanctions on some Chinese companies for violating the UN embargo and the Chinee emperor got upset because we were tromping on their national sovereignty or some such tripe.

The Beeb was tut tutting about American aggression or something, but deep into the piece they mentioned that Japanese maritime reconaissance caught said Chinee ship transshipping cargo onto a NoKo freighter in the middle of the ocean with pictures and everything.

I guess Xi the Merciless was pissed about getting caught. he apparently just removed the term limits on his job, so I guess the whole ChiCom power sharing compact has been trashed.

Jim Eagle

Thanks, RG, I thought so but BoE seemed so confident I didn't have the time to research it.

But in any event, it is still a mark against Florida or any other state that makes the Sheriff position an elected one.

Jim Eagle

Anyone else watching Victoria?

I don't usually link foreign kwrfluffles but it was an interesting on conradiana, of course without a firm hand that region has devolved into the purview of warlords

Beasts of England

You're correct, RattlerGator - thanks! I had looked up the county for Miami Gardens and hadn't considered that schools districts could overlap.

My bad, JiB!!

Beasts of England

I just got a text from a friend: 'I am looking for black heels, skinny slacks, black fitted suit jacket and a blue striped shirt.'

Captain Hate

Delta said there were no upgrades to offer, which says to me that first class was already fully booked.

The Victorian's are my passion and I have to say that so far Victoria has not missed a beat. My studies and readings are pretty specific. They have done a masterful job. Lots of detail that even in books you would not see.

Another Masterpiece.

RG--time for you to run for office--Fla needs you.

Second that sentiment.

Captain Hate

Finally Patterico has someone other than Jake Tapper in his spank bank:

Mrs. Buckeye's genealogy research has lead to the discovery that I am a direct descendant of James Lackland.

Not quite as impressive as Victoria, in fact, pretty much a screwup.

Yeah, JiB, they are constitutional officers in Florida and, as such, very powerful. But answerable to the public.

And Broward County (Fort Lauderdale) is second in population only to Dade County (Miami) in our state. Voter registration looks like this: 253,718 Republicans and 593,634 Democrats (331,118 No Party Affiliation). So you see the challenge for us down there: more NPA's than Republicans.

Clarice Feldman

A McCarthy again--this time on why Schiff's memo validates Nunes'/

Then Delta should have SAID that the seats were already full and they couldn't bymp people who had already paid for First Class or who had prior upgrades.

Do they really need to spell it out? I'm assuming they weren't refusing to move the athletes to empty first class seats. Can't remember when I've even seen empty first class seats.

I loved the examples from 1910, KK!

I was thinking this weekend about things that have changed. We had on the Me channel and an old Gunsmoke show was on. At the end there was a young guy (late teens I would guess) and some disaster had been averted. The wise older character took a minute to give him a lecture about discerning a person's true motives, making wise choices, etc.

I thought at the time - they rarely if ever do anything like that on any of today's shows. For one thing, most men are portrayed as blooming idiots and objects of scorn.

I think Andy Griffith used to do that occasionally, too! (Have a heart-to-heart with Opie about some life lesson.)

Entertainment used to have as one of its goals to portray goodness and uphold good values. When is the last time that has been done?

When my kids were growing up, although many were hard to find, we watched "Little House on the Prarie", "Andy Griffith", "Leave It To Beaver" and similar shows. Even 20 years ago there was precious little on TV that I deemed worthy of an hour of their lives.

Looking further - Delta did say they had no upgrades to offer, but were happy the team were onboard, and a team member responded very nicely.

Courteous and positive on both sides. Looks like pitch-perfect PR to me.

Clarice Feldman

mom, I used to love popular culture. I know despise it. And from watching the data on TV and movie consumption and the dipping audience for the emmys. Grammys and Oscars, I think I'm not alone.

Of course

Maine Voices: Yes, we want to take away your guns: The case for civilian disarmament - Portland Press Herald

If we want to end the carnage, we must advocate for the solution that is required, not one designed to be politically palatable. Instead of shying away from the NRA’s accusation that gun control advocates want to take away their guns, we should embrace it as a mantra.

Let’s clear the air and call for total civilian disarmament. Period.

John, not James.

Jim Eagle

Did not know Delta flew out of Seoul. But when you consider all the big spenders who go to Olympic games, it is not unreasonable to accept the fact that First Class is closed out.

Finished my NRA legislative survey today and sent them a few extra $.

Like porchlight, I would not support Delta bumping first class customers for the Men’s Curling team.

Now I’m off to read what I should be discussing.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

The go-to show when I was a kid was "Gunsmoke."

My dad LOVED that show. He even would quote lines from Doc, such as "Kinda talky, ain't ya Chester?" (Said to one of us when we wouldn't be quiet.)

We even played saloon in my grandad's bedroom. (Ue had moved in with us). He let us borrow his shot glasses. We would dress up as saloon girls. LOL! Not quite "Little House on the Prairie."

The best part of this was when we found an old empty pint bottle of whiskey and poured the remains into one of the shot glasses so that my younger sister (the retired teacher) chugged it down thinking it was water. HA! She must have coughed and choked for a full 5 minutes.

My mother was so mad! Dad thought it was hilarious, but we were forbidden on pain of a whipping to play "saloon" again.

That is great, MM. I just watched Stagecoach last night for the first time. It was splendid. A little political around the edges but whatever.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

I wonder how many people connect "no upgrades available" with "can't displace paying customers." The NY Post story didn't point that out, and when I first read it I didn't think about paying First Class customers, which of course is the explanation.

I still think they should have put that in their their message.

Maybe that version was for the series crime story, which had a Miami vice ethos but set in the early 60s

Frau Die Wacht am Bein

Charles Mackay would be amazed at the ability of the left to drive mass madness in this country today. White privileged youths standing in front of the WH proclaiming "We are not safe" makes me wonder if any self-evaluation by them and their parents will ever kick in.

Mrs. Buckeye watches The Rifleman most afternoons.

I am hard pressed to think of any current show where a father is portrayed setting a good example for a son.

Festus is an American original.

I flew Delta a lot until very recently. Frequent flyers were moved up to First Class early. Even when I was a lowly silver level, I sometimes got First Class. If people expect First Class seats to be open at boarding time, or even same day, they are likely to be disappointed.

All the things I'm missin'
Good vittles, love, and kissin'

Move 'em on, head 'em up
Head 'em up, move 'em on
Move 'em on, head 'em up
Cut 'em out, ride 'em in,
Ride 'em in, let 'em out,
Cut 'em out, ride 'em in

Keep movin', movin', movin'
Though they're disapprovin'
Keep them dogies movin'
Don't try to understand 'em
Just rope, and throw, and brand 'em
Soon we'll be living high and wide.

My true love will be waitin'
Be waiting at the end of my ride.

On those 1910 figures; the world population in that decade was estimated at 1.75 billion people.

The world population today is (more or less--estimates vary) 7 billion people.

Four times as many people are alive today as there were 100 years ago. Why aren't they starving in the streets with no food to eat. (Cue the environmentalists with their violins and gloom and doom).

Well around 1912 two German scientists, Haber and Bosch invented a process to fix nitrogen from the air. They weren't looking to make fertilizer (although that increase in nitrogen is perhaps the primary reason for the world increase in food supply). They were looking to make explosives--the prime alternate source for nitrogren at the time was mining bat guano.

Now that you can make nitrogen from the air, you can let the politicians spew all the bat guano they want--and you can still have fertilizer and explosives.

I have a car!

I bought the Mitsubishi Montero sport vehicle, 2001. It's in good shape other than a small door dent and the electric locks don't work. Mileage is around 160,000.

Got it for $1700. The rest of the money is in savings for repairs and maintenance.

I am so excited! You guys don't know how awful it is to be trapped in your house all day.

Thank you so much for the help. The reason I went with a cheaper car is that my income is only $700/month, and it seemed smart to me to bank the excess money for emergencies. I hope that is ok with all of you.

I pick it up tomorrow and will get plates and such.

So the Hill calls the talkative dude that didn’t get shot “Florida survivor”.

Seems to me with that definition there are 3000 others who could make that silly claim.

On that Oakland Mayor warning of ICE raids.

If she is right, somebody ought to be looking for the leakers.

If she is wrong she is needlessly scaring illegals.

Does ICE need counter-espionage help? Or can they use this? Deliberately leak raid sites on a regular basis - when they have no intention to raid that site, but another one.

Comanche Voter,

You must have read this book:

It is very enlightening.

If you're feeling masochistic, try reading Andrew McCarthy's (yes, I know) takedown of Schiff's memo:

alongside Vox's breathless rhapsody on the same memo:

It's like we've become two different species.

Comanche Voter

Sammy Small I don't recall seeing that book. But the work of Haber and Bosch has been written about in several places. And early in my legal career I did a lot of work on a case involving a fertilizer plant. It made ammonium nitrate and urea (both used as fertilizers) from natural gas (for the hydrogen) and nitrogen taken from the air.

I'm not as pessimistic about the planet's ability to support a population of 9 or 10 billion people as most are. I also think that if you can get energy supplies into energy poor countries (i.e. almost all of the third world) we should see remarkable human progress. Sarah Palin was right when she said "drill baby drill" and "all of the above". And Obama beclowned himself when he said "we can't drill our way out of an energy shortage". As history proved--frack him.

jim nj

I wonder if the NRA should think about setting up "associate" memberships. No cost, no benefits, just a chance to show how many people are aligned with them.

How high would the "membership" rise to?

Or maybe just offer a magazine subscription "membership" for $5.

Anybody know somebody?

What would be the ultimate NRA "membership" if everybody who wanted to register their support for the NRA could easily "vote" to do so.
