Old Lurker

Has any criminal from the Obama-Clinton years had 88 WaPo stories aimed at him, or had even the attention Rob Portman has gotten? Have any of them had their doors broken down at dawn and their wives felt up in their nightgowns by masked me dressed in black?

Who knew that at the end of the day ALL of our Equal Justice For All marbles would be invested in some IG's future report?

Sue

For something that is all about Russia and Trump, there have been an awful lot of demotions, resignations, reassignments, etc., in the FBI and DOJ.

Old Lurker

"demotions, resignations, reassignments"

None of which will strike a guy in the street as appropriate justice for robbing a bank.

Old Lurker

Sue, I know that was not your point, but that phrase fit MY narrative!

:-)

JimNorCal

In CA the state demands businesses avoid giving aid to the federal government regarding illegals. Florida though is cooperating.

Recently police were called to a high school to remove a 17 year old you had been suspended but kept returning to campus. She refused to obey simple commands and kept trying to return to the campus, so the cop took her to the ground.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5296795/Police-officer-BODYSLAMS-handcuffed-teenage-girl.html

The cop has been crucified and the police chief has taken the cowardly lion position. At the time this happened I said to my wife "do all the other parents want a suspended student that is this out od touch mingling with their kids on campus? There is something seriously wrong with a 'young adult' that gets themselves into handcuffs and still doesn't listen."

I hope the locals there rally around the cop in light of the Florida shooting, even though they shouldn't have needed such a tragedy to wake up.

Instead they will probably create a situation where something worse will happen to their own kids.

No surprise the video doesn't include that.

While the Republicans and Democrats in Congress are working hard to come up with a solution to DACA, they should be strongly considering a system of Merit Based Immigration so that we will have the people ready, willing and able to help all of those companies moving into the USA!

CA is #1 in out-migration, i.e. escapees. I guess they need illegals to fill the void so gov workers keep their jobs and politicos keep their seats. No surprise retirees are heading to low-tax FL and SC. Just hope they keep driving down I-75 all the way through GA.

A retired CHP officer bragged to my group that he doesn't need to leave California because he funnels everything, including his $98,000 pension, car purchases, etc, through his South Dakota residence. Apparently he only has to visit SD once every 5 years to maintain residency.

It was too nauseating for me to research what he was talking about, but he was very convincing that he doesn't put a dime into the system that pays his retirement.

That sounds strange, TK. New York is very strict about claiming residency in another state. You have to be able to prove that you spend at least 183 days in the state, with things like credit card receipts. I can't believe CA would be that lenient.

School administrators will always back the kids first.
I taught high school kids with behavioral issues. I was
assaulted by a female student. Punched in the face, knocked
to the ground and kicked. Principal decided on 3 days
suspension.
Against the wishes of the school I had the girl arrested.
The judge issued a restraining order. She was no longer
allowed on campus. It took 7 months but in the end she
was convicted of assault.

Beasts of England

I'm glad Ohr was mentioned because I had the same feeling. All of this crap was proceeding at light speed until last weekend and then *poof* it's become silent. Too silent.

The delay in Flynn's sentencing was the white flag, in my opinion. I wouldn't be surprised if deals are being cut this week. However, this is an unprecedented assault on free elections and Trump hasn't shown anything in his past dealings to make me believe he'll accept Ohr as a scapegoat.

I don't think he'd settle for anything less than Comey's skull.

School administrators will always back the kids first

Not in GA, but it depends of whether the kid is special ed. If so, the out of school max is 18 days a year before a whole bunch of professionals meet to decide how to proceed. Hubs, a retired GA school admin, said 2 weeks was usually the max the school could do on their own for what LS described. Such an assault involving a non-special ed kid, is a crime that is up to LE to charge or not.

The Infamous Ignatz

Shockingly, TK's LE acquaintance doesn't want the law enforced re him.

It is a story of the Norse fighting over who gets to rule Mercia in and around 911 AD.

I once came upon a co-worker complaining that his township commissioners were crooks.

I said "why don't you vote them out ?"

My co-worker replied .. "why would I do that ? Any new commissioner would have to start all over again filling his pockets, when the current commissioner at least has his pockets already partially filled."

Buckeye

Spent an hour in the queue at the Social Security office this morning.

Finally got my Part B application processed.

Turns out that if you apply during your birth month, you can either request it to start 1 month out or 3 months out, but not 2 months out like I had initially requested.

Can someone explain the logic of that "donut hole"?

So they shitcanned my application. Mofos couldn't be bothered to pick up the phone and let me know.

However the nice lady I talked to this morning was very helpful. She must have appreciated a "customer" who didn't need an interpreter:)

All of this crap was proceeding at light speed until last weekend and then *poof* it's become silent. Too silent.

Frankly, we all know Mueller won't do any good (except possibly to say there was no collusion by the Trump campaign). It all boils down to Michael Horowitz's IG report which supposedly is now a month away.

Schools are only interested in making everything look good. I was told not to call Law Enforcement if something happened. I responded that if I am assaulted, stole from or any other rights violated, I would do what is my right and call LE. They were horrified that I would say such a thing. I have not needed to do this (school stuff has been stolen, but never my personal stuff). Where in my contract does it say I have to give up my rights as a US citizen?

"In a provocative column at the Federalist, Lee Smith looks at the roles played by Franklin Foer (Slate), Anne Applebaum (Washington Post), Jeffrey Goldberg (Atlantic), and David Remnick (New Yorker) during the 2016 campaign to plant the seeds. He takes note of certain contradictions that emerged between their coverage of Obama and their critique of Trump. Lee hypothesizes that the Democrats’ media adjunct planted the seeds with a little help from their friends in the employ of the Clinton campaign. Together they collaborated on the creation of “an echo chamber of opposition research.”

The Magpie is grandstanding on the yet to be dug graves of the dead children in Florida.

She is screaming that we need to do something different, we need to direct more money to the problem, we need to tell the politicians that this is unacceptable, etc.

At no point does she present the solution she would like to see. She does mention how many guns are in America and she also makes a note of how tough it is to lock up nutty kids.

henry

TK, I don't care who says it. It's Chamber goal #1 right now. even the WI Assembly leader is pushing gas tax "for roads" while keeping prevailing wage so the road builders have a higher base to cost plus their pockets full. Need to make it a new third rail of politics.

I was blown away when we visited L'Anse aux Meadows and learned that they were forging fresh nails to repair their long boats. The raw materials were heated in charcoal in holes in the ground. Hammering out a sword would have only been a little more challenging.

The gas tax is a favorite of wonky pseudo-conservatives like Mankiw. Would Ryan support it?

If only they would devote as much effort to cutting spending as to finding nifty new taxes. Henry's suggestions above are a good place to start.

Old Lurker

I'm sure that is right, TK, but the bottom line is you can't live (fulltime) in one state and pay taxes to another one. Oh that we could!

henry

this is good, but 25 years overdue. Several countries joining US in suit at WTO over China's tech transfer policies. Basically if you want to license software (or other IP) in China you must have a Chinese partner owning 51% of the Chinese business entity and that entity gets rights to 100% of the IP used. This policy was explained to me by a woman in charge of tech transfer for China who visited CWRU to see how the US did it. (We had a policy contract with DOD involving Clinton's military to civilian tech transfer programs that funded my grad school). I told her I couldn't believe anyone would be dumb enough to accept those terms. She just smiled. I still do no business in China because of that policy.

SC gas stations near I-85's SC/NC line benefit hugely from NC's gas tax - an added 40 cents a gal. when we lived there. Ditto the explosion of home-building in Fort Mill/Rock Hill, SC by people who commute to nearby Charlotte.

I see a couple of links here essentially asking the question -- why were reporters in Spring 2016 asserting, almost in unison, that Trump was Putin's tool?

It's a reasonable question. And it would not be surprising if Clinton people (directly -- not laundered through Fusion GPS) would be pitching that kind of story to various like minded reporters. Pitching stories to reporters is a well-known Washington activity.

But, if you are going to assert that the media are principals in a conspiracy, you need to consider whether their reporting had some basis in fact. And Trump was very much on the record about his feelings towards Putin:
