Boy, am I glad I don't need to get my news from Fox daytime TV. Thank you TM.

maryrose

Memo tomorrow in time for weekend news cycle.

Neo

I call on the doctors who performed Nancy Pelosi's frontal lobotomy to reverse the process ... because this is just too stupid.

Once again, The Onion nails it.

Sundance claims that manipulated 302s were used in the charging.

That entire 302 thing needs to be gutted. Way too much abuse that I know about, and I hardly know anything about the FBI.
Video recorded interviews only--no more of the "trust me. I'm an FBI agent."

Look up tardive dyskinesia IRT Nancy's mouth movements.

Bloomberg Politics managing editor/MSNBC contributor John Heilemann asked Democratic Senator Chris Murphy : "Is it possible that the Republican chairman of the House Intel Committee has been compromised by the Russians? Is it possible that we actually have a Russian agent running the House Intel Committee on the Republican side?"

I see the truth of the McCarthyism charge.

Honoria

From the Tom R link

"Comey understood Trump’s people as having neither knowledge of nor respect for the independence of the law enforcement function. And he saw it as an ongoing task on his part to protect the rest of the Bureau from improper contacts and interferences from a group of people he did not regard as honorable. This was a general preoccupation of Comey’s in the months he and Trump overlapped—and the difference between this relationship and his regard for Obama (which was deep) was profound and palpable."

Good grief

I don't TV except sports, and those sparingly, and so I suffer less. Saw President Trump's address to the GOP caucus at Greenbrier--he did a very good job, with the goal obviously of trying to get them to be more nimble in support of things they all putatively want. The camera was only on him, so we couldn't see how the Flakes of the world reacted. Probably a bit better than the CBC congresswoman caught playing a candy-crush like game on her phone during the SOTU. I don't think it was actually Candy Crush, says a user up to level 1466 who finds this like suduko and crossword puzzles soothing from the vicissitudes of thought and modern tangles.

Tom R

Has anyone heard when the House Intel committee is going to revote on the Nunes memo? I was under the impression they are all in WV on the GOP retreat.

daddy on iPad

Doing catch-up from the campus of Caltech. It reminds me of Guangzhou.

Caught Rush on the headsets while semi-awake detailing as only Rush can do the framtic and hysterical Left and their allies in the FBI and the DOJ trying like hell to prevent the release.

Have not caught up and don't trust any of the top of the hour radio news reports on AM radio, but am led to understand that the current scheme is Trump will have the original 4 Page Memo released tomorrow, not the one with the grammatical corrections, nor the Wray one demanding all names redacted. Good. If that is not what is produced tomorrow morning I will be hugely pissed.

Am moving the daughter from an apartment with an overflowing toilet. Have been on hands and knees plunging the porcelain with Rush on the headset hollering at CNN. 80+ degrees and eucalyptus style trees abounding. Good morning.

As for Campus, at an putdoor cafe sipping an Americano and a mini-Snickers bar for breakfast. Haven't seen a single tattoo or nose ring on the premises, no grafitti, and only 1 skateboard. No baseball hats on backwards and no pants worn slung low beneath the butt cheeks. The amount of construction of new labs and science type buildings here is amazing. This place is obviously rolling in dough!

joan

The recurring pattern here is schiff's attempt to obstruct Rep. Nunes.

anonamom

Sooooo--Michelle is on Ellen today, talking about that oh so awkward way she handled receiving the Tiffany gift from Melania on inauguration day. Saying that wasn't part of the protocol, she didn't know what to do with it, no flunkie types were coming out to take it from her...

Well, guess just who gave Laura Bush a gift on inauguration day, 2009???

https://tomshermanspecial.wordpress.com/2018/02/01/exclusive-video-michelle-obama-handing-laura-bush-a-gift-on-inauguration-day/

There's video of everything ,people. Fact check your stories.

Well--almost everything.
Not the FBI's 302s.

joan

"Tardive dyskinesia is a side effect of antipsychotic medications. These drugs are used to treat schizophrenia and other mental health disorders."

This made me chuckle. Several people on jom have said pelosi has mental issues.

anonamom

Paul Ryan basically said Schiff was lying about their being any need to revote--that the memo they voted on was the memo that had already been edited.

henry

Ryan said nothing changed since the vote. So no need to revote.

joan

Yes, anonamom, about the 302s. That tweet of holder saying the memo would give up vital intell gathering methods -- my good gracious, the public has been educated in their methods during the past two years. FISA Court. 702s 302s. The left is so full of bull including, mrs. obama.

Threadkiller

What a nice find, anonamom.

daddy on iPad

That entire 302 thing needs to be gutted. Way too much abuse that I know about, and I hardly know anything about the FBI.

I cannot think of a single high level FBI case that I am aware of where 302 Abuse has not been part of the mix. There may be some, but in Stevens, Bundy, Hillary, Libby, this, either the 302's are kept from the defendent and the Court if they help exonerate him, never even taken if they want to exonerate the target (Hillary), or changed and/or pencil whipped long after the interviews in order to generate false evidence to help win a conviction. They are illigitimate Law tools on their face.

joan

Oh, Tom R., I wish I hadn't re-read your 4:35 about comey explaining to Trump how contact should happen between the president and the FBI. I got mad all over again, and I'd sort of been enjoying the posts, especially the Onion's. :)

My God, what our president has been up against this past year. He should receive a sainthood and a knighthood for putting up with comey, the media, the democrats, et al.

daddy on iPad

Comey understood Trump’s people as having neither knowledge of nor respect for the independence of the law enforcement function

DeSantis the other night on I think Hannity said that his read on all this hidden stuff lead him to conclude that the FBI bad eggs were not knee jerk anti-Republican but all shared a real ad hominem against Trump. They specifically hated Trump and he was their specific target that they were intent on destroying. He thought they would not have done this against some of the other Repub candidates, ie Jeb! Etc.

glenda

Honoria...isn't it rich ?? The panic about a Memo !

All the constant-@comey man-splaining WHY he broke numerous laws, his oath of office, persecuted REAL patriots {(military--rank&file , Leo's , Americans who served other's for country --fellow Americans)before "self"}..a duly elected President and American voters..
because "he, Comey" egotistically felt a,b or c. He preferred Obama to excuse his personal bias, He disliked Trump because he had no power over someone as brash and rich as DJT.
He, Comey...chose POORLY..just as most sociopath control seekers do.

I've been pleasantly surprised by The Onion, as I recall they were bought by some MSM outfit a year or two ago. There still seems to be a sense of humor there.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

The thing that shocked me the most is that the FBI doesn't record interviews and that all cases aree based on the agent's written notes. Who thought THAT scam up?

This isn't 1932, or even 1965. All agents have cell phones or could have separate video cameras, which are no longer large.

I think Congress needs to pass a law about this. I am honestly outraged about it!

Threadkiller

Ok, here's the rule, on page 15 at this link:

http://clerk.house.gov/legislative/house-rules.pdf

(g)(1) The select committee may disclose
publicly any information in its
possession after a determination by the
select committee that the public interest
would be served by such disclosure.
With respect to the disclosure of information
for which this paragraph requires
action by the select committee—

(A) the select committee shall
meet to vote on the matter within
five days after a member of the select
committee requests a vote; and
(B) a member of the select committee
may not make such a disclosure
before a vote by the select committee
on the matter, or after a vote
by the select committee on the matter
except in accordance with this
paragraph.
(2)(A) In a case in which the select
committee votes to disclose publicly
any information that has been classified
under established security procedures,
that has been submitted to it by
the executive branch, and that the executive
branch requests be kept secret
,
the select committee shall notify the
President of such vote.
(B) The select committee may disclose
publicly such information after
the expiration of a five-day period following
the day on which notice of the
vote to disclose is transmitted to the
President unless, before the expiration
of the five-day period, the President,
personally in writing, notifies the select
committee that the President objects
to the disclosure of such information,
provides reasons therefor, and
certifies that the threat to the national
interest of the United States
posed by the disclosure is of such gravity
that it outweighs any public interest

in the disclosure.
(C) If the President, personally in
writing, notifies the select committee
of objections to the disclosure of information
as provided in subdivision (B),
the select committee may, by majority
vote, refer the question of the disclosure
of such information, with a recommendation
thereon, to the House.
The select committee may not publicly
disclose such information without
leave of the House.

---

This seems to imply that the "executive branch" objected and also to say that they can't release before the 5-day period expires, even if the president supports the release.

Anyone read that differently?

They voted on Monday, right? What time? And as Henry asked, is that 5 calendar days? If so, then don't they have to wait until Saturday?

Where does the anti-corruption Executive Order fit into this?

If the whole Mueller investigation was a counter-intel honeypot to find corruption in the FBI, does the EO give them powerful tools to threaten the exposed with financial ruin? If Soro, etc., try to pay them off to keep them quiet, then that money gets vacuumed up too, right? Hey, it's not enough to eliminate the $7 trillion of Obamadebt, but it sure will be the best part...

Another reason to #ReleaseTheMemo: A lot of just really bad, inaccurate info being disseminated in meantime. (1) This isn't the "Nunes memo". He didn't draft it & it's not his memo. (2) This is strictly about FISA abuse & misconduct. (3) Its content is actually 100% non-partisan

(4) Changes made to memo were very minor, including changes requested by FBI & House minority. (5) This isn't an attack on the institutions. The end result will be better institutions. (6) No good sources & methods will be revealed. It will reveal bad ones though.

House rules are just that. The President can declassify and release whatever he wants. He doesn't need permission from the legislative branch.

No, but no one ever said Trump would declassify. As far as I remember, they said he'd send it back to the House for release.

Re moving to NZ, some pals of ours, (the Auburn Coke heiress), bought a place at the north end of the South Island. Lasted two years of wintering down there. Just too many things not right. I take it as what a lot of people just barely can tolerate living in HI, but about 50 times worse. Isolation, culture, basics like hiring contractors to fix stuff. Everything drove them nutz.

I figure our hideout on our pile of rocks is just right. If we need a dose of Murica we can day trip to Costco. Otherwise, get off my lawn! :)

Threadkiller

I can't argue with that either, danoso.

Assuming the executive sits this one out, the house rules prevail on Saturday I think. If the executive decides they want their fingerprints on the Memo it will be tomorrow.

danoso

Of course he's declassifying it - that's why its being presented to House members from a SCIF - its classified. And the President has the ultimate say in these matters.

My point is Trump doesn't have to operate by House rules.

exdemocrat

Comey: "I wish more of our leaders would."

aaand there's the problem: the hired help sees itself as our "leaders"

Then he could have released it yesterday. He appears to be operating by House rules unless he beats their inevitable deadline.

also, Ext, while i respect your skepticism re Wictor's theory, your snippet missed the lede.
His theory is that one way to explain Flynn's otherwise inexplicable actions is that he did this to invite the black hats to prosecute him based on their own FISA misdeeds, thereby inadvertently setting themselves up for disclosure and prosecution.

(11) Mueller is saying in plain English that sentencing Flynn would not be the right thing to do, EVEN THOUGH FLYNN PLEADED GUILTY.

That is a heck if a big assumption. Mueller should have tossed this out and exonerated Trump 6 months ago. Just allowing this process to go on for so long is serious punishment all in itself and grossly unfair to President Trump and the country.

"House Judiciary Dem calls for emergency FBI, DOJ meeting over Nunes memo
By John Bowden - 02/01/18 06:40 PM EST

Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee are calling for an immediate meeting with officials from the FBI and Department of Justice over the claims made in the memo drafted by Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.).

The letter, spearheaded by ranking member Rep. Jerrod Nadler (D-N.Y.), is directed to committee chairman Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.). In it, Nadler asks Goodlatte to arrange a meeting with FBI Director Christopher Wray and other representatives from the Justice Department to examine the "talking points" that he says Republicans are using to "discredit the work of the FBI and Special Counsel Robert Mueller."

"It is imperative that we hear directly from these officials about the security and law enforcement implications of making this information public," Nadler wrote.

"It is also important that we hear about any inaccuracies or key omissions from the Nunes document," he added.

I've requested that @HouseJudiciary immediately call FBI Director Wray and other DOJ representatives to appear on an emergency basis before the Committee and brief us about their concerns regarding the #NunesMemo. https://t.co/bwABWiNah9 pic.twitter.com/gzEpvQKcwy

The thing with Wictor is that he has been saying for several months now that GEN Flynn has engineered one of the greatest intel sting operations of all time. This requires you to also believe this is all part of Trump’s 4D chess theory. There is obviously a lot of wishful thinking involved but this recent thread by Sundance reinforces the notion. GEN Flynn is a Intel spook and had the knowhow to setup a separate Intel apparatus described in this thread.
