They were amendments to the Constitution and can be repealed just like Prohibition was.

I know that amendments can be repealed - Prohibition obviously. But some people argue that the Bill of Rights is entrenched, giving it special status. I don't know where that language exists in the Constitution, so I'm skeptical.

Obviously it's politically impossible (for now).

This argument contends that there is a legal possibility of repeal, but since the rights in the BoR exist outside the Constitution and in fact outside government (because they are natural rights, not granted), so even if they were formally repealed the rights themselves can't be taken away.

Of course I hope we never get close enough to see.

I'm pretty reluctant to expect anything good to come from a whack job like Roseanne Barr, even if she is currently experiencing briefs periods of lucidity.

I see where London is trying to compete with Chicago.

If you work for Gigantic Engineering and Construction for 25 years you get a Gold Rolex Date Time 21K. I needed two extra links: $350 each. I only wear it to birthday partiesn (like my FIL's 92nd in two days), weddings and funerals as well as any reunions. They are beautiful watches but scare the hell out of me when I was in London because I made the mistake of wearing one night out to a famous restaurant. The Maitre'd was a Nigerian guy who showed me his Fakeolex and ask if he could try mine on. Never wore again in London. Kept in a safe deposit box with Mrs. JiB's gold bars and diamonds:)

Not the kind of bling you want to show off especially in a mixed crowd.

I mostly agree with your comment about Roseanne, Iggy.

However, she does set a good example for the hillbilly babes:

1) she doesn't leave food out on the counter to attract roaches

2) refrigerator is inside instead of outside

3) never drinks 'shine before noon

4) doesn't have a smack needle hangin' out of her arm

A lot of gals in southeast Ahia need a role model.

Have a good trip across the pond.

In the taxi cab. We were just leaving the hotel and 1 block down the street was blocked off with police tape and police cars so we had to turn around. The Taxi driver says that was the location where the 85 year old Jewish woman was stabbed to death a few days back by 2 Terrorists. That brings it home to you quick. Paris police say murder of a Jewish woman in Paris was a hate crime

Two months after the signing of the Vietnam peace agreement, the last U.S. combat troops left South Vietnam as Communist Hanoi freed the remaining prisoners of war held in North Vietnam. America's direct eight-year intervention in the Vietnam Conflict was at an end. In Saigon, some 7,000 (U.S.) civilian employees remained behind to aid South Vietnam in conducting what looked to be a fierce and ongoing war with Communist North Vietnam.

In 1961, after two decades of indirect military aid, [Facts: Truman & Ike ordered a US presence helping the French before 1961] President Kennedy sent the first large force of U.S. military personnel to Vietnam to bolster the ineffectual regime of South Vietnam against the Communist North. Three years later, with the South Vietnamese government crumbling, President Johnson ordered limited bombing raids on North Vietnam and Congress authorized the use of U.S. troops. By 1965, North Vietnamese offensives left President Johnson with two choices: escalate U.S. involvement or withdraw. Johnson ordered the former, and troop levels soon jumped to more than 300,000 as U.S. air forces commenced the largest bombing campaign in history.

During the next few years, the extended length of the war and the high number of U.S. casualties helped turn many in the United States against the Vietnam Conflict. The communists' Tet Offensive of 1968 crushed U.S. hopes of an end to the conflict and galvanized U.S. opposition to the war. In response, Johnson announced in March 1968, that he would not seek reelection, citing what he perceived to be his responsibility in creating a perilous national division over Vietnam. He also authorized the beginning of peace talks.

In the spring of 1969, as protests against the war escalated in the United States, U.S. troop strength in the war-torn country reached its peak at nearly 550,000 men. New U.S. President Nixon began U.S. troop withdrawal and "Vietnamization" of the war effort that year, but he intensified bombing. Large U.S. troop withdrawals continued in the early 1970s as President Nixon expanded air and ground operations into Cambodia and Laos in attempts to block enemy supply routes along Vietnam's borders. This expansion of the conflict led to new waves of leftist protests in the United States and elsewhere.

Finally, in January 1973, representatives of the United States, North and South Vietnam, and the Vietcong signed a peace agreement in Paris, ending direct U.S. military involvement in the Vietnam Conflit. Its key provisions included a cease-fire throughout Vietnam, the withdrawal of U.S. forces, the release of prisoners of war, and the reunification of North and South Vietnam through peaceful means. The South Vietnamese government was to remain in place until new elections were held, and North Vietnamese forces in the South were not to advance further nor be reinforced. [A double-cross by our Congress and wholesale slaughter by North Vietnam against South Vietnam was the end result.]

In reality, however, the agreement was little more than a face-saving gesture by the U.S. government. Even before the last 566 American POWs were released from Hanoi and remaining US combat troops departed on March 29, 1973 the communists violated the cease-fire, and by early 1974 full-scale war had resumed. At the end of 1974, South Vietnamese authorities reported that 80,000 of their soldiers and civilians had been killed in fighting during the year, making it the most costly of the Vietnam War.

On April 30, 1975, the last few Americans still in South Vietnam were airlifted out of the country as Saigon fell to communist forces. North Vietnamese Colonel Bui Tin, accepting the surrender of South Vietnam later in the day, remarked, "You have nothing to fear; between Vietnamese there are no victors and no vanquished. Only the Americans have been defeated." The Vietnam Conflict was the longest and most unpopular foreign war in U.S. history and cost 58,000 American lives. As many as two million Vietnamese soldiers and civilians were killed.
Footnote from Mike McGrath’62, (NAM-POW Historian): Almost all of the soldiers, airmen, and marines captured in SVN had been moved years earlier to Hanoi. Same with those captured in Laos. They had been moved to Hanoi where they couldn't be discovered by U.S. troops in multiple attempts to find POW camps (in SVN) for POW rescue attempts.

Let tus not forget that the party of jor, Ben, DuDa, et. al. were the ones who got us in their. I have 8 Squadron mates on the wall. Thanks JFK, LBJ.

March for Our Lives participants mostly middle aged, educated women: Analysis

Only 10 percent of those who participated in the March for Our Lives last weekend were under 18, despite many media reports focusing on the youth of the organizers.

The March 24 rally in Washington, D.C., mostly comprised educated women, according to a new Washington Post analysis released Wednesday.

The average profile of a marcher was a 49-year-old, college-educated woman. Compared to the Women’s March last January, of which 85 percent of the participants were women, the March for Our Lives rally was made up of 70 percent women.

BREAKING: California AG Threatens to Arrest Orange County Sheriff for Assisting ICE (VIDEO)

Attorney General Xavier Becerra: State law is state law. And it is my job to enforce state law. I will do so. And we want to make sure that every jurisdiction including Orange County, understand what state law requires of the people and the sub divisions of the state of California.

Reporter: Does that mean a lawsuit of the sheriff’s department or the arrest of the sheriff?

Xavier Becerra: I think I just answered that.

Not sure the headline matches the quote, but there it is.

Feds: Detainee at airport for deportation escapes in taxi

NEW YORK – Federal authorities say an immigration detainee about to be deported to Senegal escaped custody at New York's Kennedy Airport and fled in a taxi.

A spokesman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement says Mohamadou Lamine Mbacke was in the custody of its agents at the airport Tuesday night when he bolted and got into a cab.

The agency says Mbacke entered the country lawfully in 2005 but violated the terms of his status.

Mbacke was ordered deported in September 2015. ICE spokesman Khaalid Walls says the 31-year-old Mbacke has criminal convictions for weapons offenses.

Judge Acquits Pipeline Protesters Allied With Al Gore’s Daughter After They Invoked ‘The Climate’

The Climate Disobedience Center’s webpage details how environmentalists can use the “necessity defense” in court. The Center wants to use it to “justify action taken on behalf of the planet” for “activists who have been arrested for protesting fossil fuel extraction and government inaction on climate policy.”

Judge Mary Ann Driscoll of the West Roxbury District Court acquitted all 13 defendants Tuesday after allowing them to tell the court why they blocked a natural gas pipeline. They all argued man-made global warming drove them to action.

Environmentalists, including Al Gore himself, praised the judge’s ruling and argued the the “necessity defense” was successfully used in court.

maryrose, it matters one hell of a lot if the courts decide climate change is real (in spite of the science) and enforce torts thereby. "your thermostat is too high, pay the plaintiffs plus court costs").

JIB - Last year I attended a lecture by a former CIA agent who operated out of Laos in the early 60s. One of his main tasks was to coordinate teams of indigenous tribesmen and mercenaries to monitor the Ho Chi Minh trail. He mentioned that he sent a report to the CIA outlining the fact that most of the resupply of the South was done via the Ho Chi Minh trail and closing the trail would stifle the Communists in the South. The USA preferred to maintain the fiction of Laotian neutrality.

"Environmentalists, including Al Gore himself, praised the judge’s ruling and argued the the “necessity defense” was successfully used in court."

I first saw this as a successful defense a few years ago in the UK. The vandals had vandalized a refinery and the judge found them not guilty for the above reasons.

DNC Chairman Equates Census Citizenship Question to Voter Suppression

"They want to change it to count the number of U.S. citizens so that they can engage in very not subtle voter suppression," Perez said. "That is illegal and that is totally inconsistent with what the North Star of the census in Republican and Democratic administrations have been."

"This is just another divide-and-conquer effort. This is a first cousin of these voter ID laws sought to make sure that African Americans and Latinos can't vote," he added. "This is not who we are as a nation. This is not why people died for the passage of the Voting Rights Act."

‘March for Our Lives’ Leaders Deny They Want to Repeal Second Amendment

March for Our Lives leader Cameron Kasky was the first to try to contain the damage. Kasky, a student at Marjory Stonemason Douglas High School who used his platform at a CNN town hall last month to compare Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) to the shooter, and who also accused National Rifle Association spokeswoman Dana Loesch of being a bad mother, immediately shared the article on Twitter, though he added that it was “not what we are going for”

Later, however, Kasky tweeted that the Second Amendment was outdated:

The second amendment was written when African Americans were still considered 3/5ths of a person...

As a matter of fact, if you read it, it didn’t even call them African Americans; it called them “Other Persons”

'Facebook Condom'? - Mozilla Launches Firefox Extension To Avoid Zuck's Spying Eyes

In response to the Facebook data harvesting scandal, Mozilla has launched an extension for its Firefox Browser which helps you segregate your web activity from Facebook's prying eyes by isolating your identity into a separate "container." This makes it far more difficult for Facebook to track your activity on other websites using third-party cookies.

You can get the extension here.

Upon installation, the extension deletes your Facebook cookies and logs you out of Facebook. The next time you visit the social media giant, it will open in a special blue browser "container" tab - which you can use to safely log in to Facebook and use it like you normally would. If you then click on a link that takes you outside of Facebook, it will load outside of the container.

"maryrose, it matters one hell of a lot if the courts decide climate change is real (in spite of the science) and enforce torts thereby. "your thermostat is too high, pay the plaintiffs plus court costs")."

In addition, in this era where the government, using free money and free lawyers, go after individual and corporate liberties, there is never enough money for an individual or even a medium size business to fight back and make the other guy - this case the government - "Prove It".

Only the biggest of companies can afford to do that and only then if the Board thinks the government is wrong and therefore damaging its shareholders' investment.

So Chevron, by switching sides, deprives the good guys of what should have been a rich White Knight, and it makes it much harder for the remaining White Knights to make the case that will help us little people.
