The Florida Senate moved forward with a package of gun safety measures which included a "risk protection order" process.
In the current text of the bill the relevant section starts at line 753. The statute is 790.401 "The Risk Protection Order Act". Court orders and due process look similar to the generic version described by David French.
On February 16 — two days after the Parkland massacre — I wrote about the GVRO in National Review Online [link]. I described the GVRO as a local-court order that allows law enforcement to temporarily remove guns from a potential shooter’s home. It is usually sought by a person in a close relationship with the potential shooter. A well-crafted GVRO law should contain the following elements:
1) It should limit those who have standing to seek the order to close relatives, those living with the respondent, and perhaps also school principals or employers.
2) It should require petitioners to come forward with clear and convincing evidence that the respondent is a significant danger to himself or others.
3) It should grant the respondent an opportunity to contest the claims against him.
4) In the event of an emergency, ex parte order, a full hearing should be scheduled quickly — ideally within 72 hours.
5) The order should lapse after a defined period of time (30 days would be acceptable) unless petitioners can produce clear and convincing evidence of continued need.
I haven't wrap my head around "school security guards" yet. We had a few crossing guards, usually old bats, though younger than I am now.

following all the details for GVRO and ex parte parties in court, there is this on defensive deterrence ---- student readiness to respond to a shooting emergency in progress, with emergency-related comms check(s) in the mix: (I like these additions--- recommended them in some posts over at Ace Hordeware just after the attack)
providing requirements for student crime watch
programs;
revising the policies and procedures for
emergency drills to include drills for active shooter and hostage situations;
providing requirements for such drills; revising requirements for the emergency response policy;
requiring model emergency management and emergency preparedness procedures for active shooter situations;
requiring school districts to establish a schedule to test emergency communication systems;

I must have been on sabbatical when Hit went all TruCon on us. That's unfortunate. It seems to have hit the diehard Cruzers the most, and I understand it to some degree. After eight years of Bozo, many wanted the pendulum to quickly swing all the way back - and Ted seemed like the heaviest bob to accomplish it. The broader electorate would've flinched with him as the messenger. I'm holding out hope for Justice Cruz.

Asked retired school-admin hubs today about kids being kept in rooms at the sound of a fire alarm just until an admin gave the "Please exit now" message. He said that's untenable in the case of a possible fire. Assuming all school hallways have several fire detectors, so a fire wouldn't have advanced to the point of cutting off exits, I disagreed. If classroom doors/windows were bulletproof and their locks couldn't be "shot out", then having kids remain in class until an "Exit now" or "Shelter in place" message came over the intercom would relieve parents fears of another Cruz scenario where he pulled the alarm, kids poured out, and he started firing.

have to move some stuff into storage, but before i leave, in case Jim nj shows up here before my return..... here is a disinformation piece on Kratom and the "salmonella outbreak" in 20 states LOL
jim nj:
http://www.wsbtv.com/news/local/cdc-warning-links-kratom-to-salmonella-outbreak-across-20-states/703801634
I came up with a CDC bulletin that states Kratom is a mood altering alternative to opiates, relieves pain etc.... but doesn't mention its time-tested application: (herb is native to southeast asia--- a heroin corridor FOREVER!)
alleviating withdrawal symptoms when coming off opiates with its unique way of interrupting brain signals to force cravings into primacy through the pain of withdrawal (Just gimme more, Mr. Pharmacist!)
The only reason this herb in all of its varieties is referred to as controversial is that it's a low cost, unregulated alternative to pharmaceutical company control and pharmacy intrusiveness into the medical histories of people who have legitimate use reasons for opiates in the first place, and a desire to stop taking them after prolonged, legitimately prescribed, use.
The CDC is a weaponized agency of the USG.
The FDA is using the public's positive perception of CDC (even though its been thoroughly compromised since Clinton 1 turned it into an AIDS-focused clearinghouse for the wealthy sodomite angels who were dying in droves) to badjacket a safe alternative.
Salmonella is everywhere.
And it has likely been present in the 12 cases where somebody ate capsules after preparing raw chicken or cracking old/dated eggs and didn't wash their hands.
It might also be a similar hygenic issue at the point of capsule production. Same as processed fresh produce outbreaks. But we don't see the FDA banning spring greens or arugula, do we?
The CDC doesn't do boots on the ground epidemiological investigations for 12 reported cases of anything. CDC extrapolates on data sets.
The FDA is involved and they seldom follow any other agencies lead---- they follow the lead of big Pharma.... so there is the agenda.

Posted by: anonamom | March 04, 2018 at 04:37 PM
I can dig that scenario too, Buckeye. Structural defensive deterrence (SDD) can provide a huge tactical advantage to the armed responding teacher(s).
At Berkeley HS, the physical plant arrangement allows a shooter to snipe with ease from atop buildings they can access with ease, or concentrate fire within a single building (there are four to five large buildings connected by open walkways) while controlling points of entry by countering personnel.
There was a threat last week at Berkeley High. An armed perp appeared outside the school, but was lost to the tracking authorities *somewhere on campus*.
All that to say, to optimize the result of an armed teacher(s) taking out an armed murdering shooter, the augmentation of the physical plant take primacy, to reduce tactical advantages the shooter enjoys IMO before assigning teachers into harms way.
It also would en-courage the teacher(s) knowing the perp has limited attack options and what those options selected are likely to be.
We win. Perp dies.

I think it got rolled in later to a more expansive definition of public health. Rockefeller money always is at the front of the template.
It's not something I go looking for, but I also recognize it's significance when the idea is something in my sights. Given that the cdc is in atlanta and near to where we lived after we got married, that particular fact had sticking power. Also remember spelman is named for laura spelman rockefeller because of their generosity. Also how determined they were to target the eradification of certain diseases associated with the poor agrarian south.
I also seem to remember a bunch of woodruff money went there. I went to college and travelled some with a daughter of one of his beneficiaries and they were always raised knowing his wealth was going to philanthropy.

Maxine Waters: Trump Is ‘Racist’ For Questioning My IQ
Posted by: Extraneus | March 04, 2018 at 06:06 PM
Just found a medium sized moving box filled with my eldest's journals from age 12 to 22. The box wasn't sealed.
Inside I found a note from 2008 from her addressed to me:
"I didn't want you to go too long without knowing how I really felt about you during those dark years."
Whoa.
Was just telling Paw some stories last week about "influences" our kids experience as they come up. Most of them we don't hear about.
Hopefully we live long enough and they don't precede us over the River Styx, long enough to understand how they see themselves in their private mirrors.
I guess I was ready to find this box of journals.
Have been piecing together a grand family set of stories to leave to my Grandeez over in Belgie.
How else can they know their Oso GPaw but through his stories? I'd like to think their genealogical journey, and of their personal lines of descendants, will feature a primary source for this deeper reflective voice on The Long Walk Home.
If this is too Facebooky for JOM, then I half-heartedly apologize in advance.
Time to add to my callouses.
My biz partner's girlfriend, from nearby Orinda, brought over his Taylor solid body electric to plug in and amuse myself on this comeback trail. He's in Tampa full-time and brought it out during his Xmas visit.
I think he's lightening his inventory (has over 80 guitars). This rig is nice.

Twenty years ago this month I came to my first SXSW here in Austin, and through the same mutual friend who introduced me to Mr. Porch I met a niece of David O. Selznick. Actual niece, not grandniece, even though she was only a year or two older than I.
We hit it off talking about our dads. She told me that her dad, who was around 70 when she was born, gave her a piece of advice that she always remembered:
"When your floors look clean, your house looks clean."
I always remembered it, too. And I'm here to say that all I did today was vacuum and for the umpteenth time I am pleased to see that it's absolutely true. Even if your floors didn't look all that dirty before cleaning, it makes a big difference.

Daughter and I went to CVS today because she wanted to purchase some stuff and lured me to drive by suggesting we get Diet Cokes at McDonald's. I had been there yesterday and had gotten a $6.00 (!!!) coupon good on anything because I had bought some L'Oreal makeup.
I used it today for 4 bottles of vitamins which were on BOGO so ended up only spending $12.00, PLUS I got another $3.00 coupon and some other coupons good on things I buy.
I used to be a weekly CVS shopper but with the move and then not driving I sort of fell out of the habit. I can save a LOT of money if I pay attention to the sales!

The floors are *really* clean in Japan. No shoes in the house, or even in a factory or office building. Upon entering, you change into slippers. There are special slippers for the bathroom, which you change into upon entering and out of when exiting, so that your house (or office, factory, etc.) slippers never touch the possibly dirty bathroom floor.

I woke with a though that might be old hat around here. We have the current example of Trump serving his term(s) without compensation and I have a vague recollection that the Founders may he been mostly uncompensated (not counting their loss of life and property as part of the Revolution).
So, how about having elected officials not being compensated, except for a basic room and board stipend? Think about that. First, only successful people could afford to do it, which would eliminate a lot of riffraff like Maxine. Second, it would likely accomplish the basic term limit desire without necessarily requiring an Amendment to do it. (I assume the current compensation is entirely self imposed.
We'd get the usual rich ne'er do wells like Teddy, but I suspect there may be fixes lurking there, as well. Even this requires the other constraints we've discussed around here, like no lobbying for five years after leaving office.

We live on discounts. Some of our less conscious friends (lawyers, etc) think we are miserly "because you don't *NEED* to get discounts!"
Welp. Ya. We want discounts for two very good reasons, both an insistence on not wanting to reward bad behavior by Uncle Sam and useless business owners that charge inflated prices because they can't provide superior value at the lowest cost. (I don't care how shee-shee the joint is!!)

Not if you known Hilton he was the mouthpiece for deepstate operators like Powell factotum and borderline 9/11 denialist Lawrence wilkerson while at gq
That little colloquy earned lopez a visit from the security services and a severe beating.

The weird spawn of one of their own long time nerd perv legends outs the fat, grizzled, wonky eyed king of the pervs and the beetles and pill bugs begin scurrying about from under ther own rocks and now the enabling scum who winked at it for fifty years or more are going to crank the sanctimony up to eleventy to give the rest of us who already knew they're all scum a lecture on moar prog cowbell.

Troll farms. These people have completely lost it.

Ext,
This is the only solution their brains can accept. Why did she lose to this clown? Surely it must be outside influence, preferably illegal.

Trumps better cuz he's done nothing to address the issue...that's your logic?

You, the New York Times are an icon. I’m a New York icon, you’re a New York icon, and the only difference is, I still own my buildings.
This might be the most fun I’ve had since watching your faces on election night.
I have to tell you, in preparation, I did what any good late night comic would do these days. I called Chuck Schumer and I asked him for some talking points.
Lots more

I mean, c'mon Ex.
Fashion something...but make it real.

Who the hell is Adam Rippon? Is he one of our betters?
(I ask because I only recognize 3 people from that "celebrity" pic I posted earlier, and I forget one of their names.)
