The Times settles an argument no one is making:
The Myth of the Criminal Immigrant
The Trump administration’s first year of immigration policy has relied on claims that immigrants bring crime into America. President Trump’s latest target is sanctuary cities.
“Every day, sanctuary cities release illegal immigrants, drug dealers, traffickers, gang members back into our communities,” he said last week. “They’re safe havens for just some terrible people.”
They quote Trump mentioning "illegal" immigrants, and one might wonder just what sort of sanctuary legal immigrants are granted in a sanctuary city, but the rest of the article is about all immigrants, legal or otherwise. That certainly pins down the question of whether tech engineers on H1-B visas are a crime risk. As to why Trump might need a border wall to keep out legsal immigrants, don't ask.
They do provide a fun chart:
I know they will like this chart too:
1993 was a peak year for crime, so baseline games are being played here. Still, case closed, right?
If they don't have a green card or visa, they are criminal by definition.
Posted by: henry | March 31, 2018 at 01:52 PM
Another asterisk for the charts, what year did CA (and others) change crime definitions to make some crimes "non-violent" by stroke of a pen?

a commenter at CTH directed me back to this insightful 2013 post by Ace http://minx.cc:1080/?post=345514. In it, he describes the politically-minded left seeing in Ozero the Hero character in a familiar movie narrative - like, say, Raiders of the Lost Ark - such that the content/quality/wisdom of his various policies and goals were in themselves inconsequential; all that mattered in their movie was rooting for the hero's brave and moving efforts in achieving them against his villainous opposition. As a theory, this rings true to me.
So this got me wondering what movie the politically-minded left is watching now? Obviously, Trump is the Hated Villain, but what standard movie narrative best fits their delusions?

What she said was pretty mild, but it just gave Hogg the opportunity to grandstand. The mistake was apologizing. She should have said, “Tough. If you want to publicly slam everyone who disagrees with you on guns, you ought to be able to handle a little criticism.”
That would've been a good comeback but it still wouldn't have shut the twerp (tomorrow, free at last) up. She was pretty much in a lose/lose position when the sponsors started bailing; she can't say anything about the bailers being gutless cowards because that would start a stampede.
On a related matter, I'm sure Tammy Bruce dials it back when she sits in for Todd Starnes even though the regular host markets himself as a red meat conservative broadcasting from NYC. She's still the same brash pistol packing lezzo doll baby, but she has to tighten things up to accommodate commercial breaks and comes off professionally and polished.
Jim Caviezel is a perfect spokesman for unapologetic God squadding. He doesn't make any effort to disguise that he regards Whoreyweird as a clogged septic tank and will only be in productions he thinks have a positive message. He's in a position in which he doesn't have to STFU about anything and will probably use that well.

Laura Ingraham got ripped by a well funded campaign against guns. Simple as that.
The Companies may think their cowardly actions are in their best interest, but they'll find out the hard way. Lauara Ingraham did not make the companies choose sides. They did so to vitrue signal. My daughter used to work at Borders, before it closed. She is still upset that local bookstores are disappearing.
Our library always seems to have a lot of new books I am not interested in reading: a bunch of leftist junk. a bunch of vegan stuff, books on feminism, books on the oppression of blacks, etc.
Nothing new on archaeology, geology, or good murder mysteries. It's depressing.

No doubt that that is all true. No doubt that Media Matters et al have a long list of radio and television hosts and lists of their advertisers just waiting for a moment, any moment, to strike. Her mistake was giving them an opening. Instead of rubbing his noise into not getting into a California school (thousands of Asian students are similarly situated) she could have used for how colleges manipulate admissions for in-state, out-of-state, and international students [ie change the subject].

It was a gift from my beer drinking dog walking friends who have sold their house quickly and advantageously to a couple from Dallas, the husband of which will be an anesthesiologist resident at the Clinic. They'll be leaving for San Diego in a month and I will truly miss them, as will Teddy miss Otto and Jett, two black standard poodles. Otto was the first adult dog that would run with Teddy at the park and Teddy still pesters him to chase him unlike what he does with any other dog.
The beer is good but probably should have been consumed a couple years ago. Still free craft beer FTW!

The number of begging emails I've gotten from the Restraining Order and Crockagewia's puppet, Cordray, has gotten out of control, as in multiple ones per day. For all this blue wave talk I keep hearing from the MFM, these two clowns don't seem to be taking that seriously at all.

Just watch this. Totally creeped me out.
I have to wait for the right time to show that to my wife.

Miss M, that was great! They each act like they wrote it themselves, as if their brains function.

CH
I have a beer challenge for you.
We avoid taking beer in bottles camping because it makes dragging the empties off the camp site a pain. Dragging the bourbon bottles is bad enough:)
I found and took Modelo Especial in cans last week which was a lot better than the Bud Light most of the boys bring but......
What have you seen that is readily available in cans?
Something a little more "Especial"?
