The Times settles an argument no one is making:
The Myth of the Criminal Immigrant
The Trump administration’s first year of immigration policy has relied on claims that immigrants bring crime into America. President Trump’s latest target is sanctuary cities.
“Every day, sanctuary cities release illegal immigrants, drug dealers, traffickers, gang members back into our communities,” he said last week. “They’re safe havens for just some terrible people.”
They quote Trump mentioning "illegal" immigrants, and one might wonder just what sort of sanctuary legal immigrants are granted in a sanctuary city, but the rest of the article is about all immigrants, legal or otherwise. That certainly pins down the question of whether tech engineers on H1-B visas are a crime risk. As to why Trump might need a border wall to keep out legsal immigrants, don't ask.
They do provide a fun chart:
I know they will like this chart too:
1993 was a peak year for crime, so baseline games are being played here. Still, case closed, right?

RG, I use Twitter, for the reasons you state.
I will argue it grants, even fosters, a unique level of "low discourse"--the horrendousness of which I speak. (Perhaps) since it allows for anonymity, the level of infantile name calling found there is unsurpassed.

Clarice serves as a necessary corrective to the numbskulls at Weekly Standard and, I assume, Andrew "See No Government Evil" McCarthy, on the purported integrity of the FBI under Robert Mueller. Pre Mueller, the FBI was already well on the road to uselessness under, of course, Slick's security nightmare administration when they erroneously sicced the MFM on Richard Jewell, a security guy who was trying to help, and made him out to be the Olympic bomber until a US attorney ultimately cleared him. How nice to be convicted in the court of public opinion of something you tried to help prevent.
Shut the FBI down now!

If he called me a "pathetic f***er" and explicitly said I was an accessory to murder you better believe I would say considerably worse and more personal things than what Ingraham said and I'd apologize for them about the same time they were prying my cold dead fingers off my gun.
More importantly this disgusting little prog made himself a public figure and has injected himself into the hardball world of politics wherein you don't receive some immunity from getting your head stove in just because you can't grow a beard.
Either he is a child who cannot be criticized because he is too young to be held fully accountable in which case his opinions are similarly irrelevant or he is an adult public figure in which case he is subject to the same rules of ridicule as everyone else.

Clarice: large numbers of Americans are losing faith in our institutions and the people who have been running them.
On target and an essential distinction: The underlying disease is NOT the institutions, but DEFINITELY the people running them:
1. It’s pure Antonio Gramsci that the enemy’s war will won not with weapons but by a long march through the institutions.
2. They want us to give up institutions that have worked.
3. Therefore, the corruption of the institutions needs to be countered, not the institutions rejected.
4. The actions, intents, and substance of fifth column soldiers are all fair game for criticism
5. They will accuse us of doing what they do to have us fire into our own ranks.
6. This war of words can only be won through identifying, labeling, and laughing at their stupidity, not giving in to it.

1993 was a peak year for crime, so baseline games are being played here. Still, case closed, right?
The number of firearms may have increased since the early 90s, but that's because guns per person among gun owners has increased. The percentage of households with at least 1 gun has decreased since the early 90s. Several independent polls have found a downward trend over the past several decades in the share of households with guns.

Having a hard time understanding your point foo bar. If it's that large arsenals among gun owners do not contribute to crime then I concur.
Or perhaps it's that the laws already on the books work well. Concur again.
Have to wonder though if you have analyzed the NYT's much more spurious graph regarding immigration and crime similarly?

If it's that large arsenals among gun owners do not contribute to crime then I concur.
I know you won't agree with this, but in my opinion, the polls I cited at least suggest the possibility that a decrease in the share of households with easy access to a gun may be connected to the decrease in gun homicide rate. It doesn't prove causation, but that theory is at least as plausible as the idea that the increase in total number of privately owned guns has helped decrease the gun homicide rate.

re: foob "percentage of households with at least 1 gun has decreased since the early 90s"
WaPo link so probably lies. Still, would be interesting to see a similar survey with immigrants filtered out if they are from a country with no history of gun ownership.
Posted by: JimNorCal | April 01, 2018 at 10:49 AM
Seems rather less plausible since the vast vast majority of crimes, including homicide are committed by people for whom easy access to firearms is always a given.
Your theory requires us to believe that the drop in numbers of households with guns includes the violent offenders who commit the vast majority of homicides.
Unless you believe 49% of homicides were committed by otherwise law abiding citizens all of whom decided they didn't want a gun in their home just in case they went berserk in the future.
The contingency is a remote one.
Posted by: Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki | April 01, 2018 at 10:53 AM
Iggy,
Foo Bar may have inadvertenly touch on a demographic anomaly I have noticed. As we gray as gun owners, hunters, shooters, and collectors, who are taking our place? Our kids are being brainwashed everyday to the Bill Ayers SJW testament. Would love to see the gun buys by age group 18-35 in the last few years on a per capita basis to the gun buys per capita in say 1985, 1995 and 2005.
Its possible that Media Hogg may be ruining Ayers script by mouthing off the negative which may reverse the trend among the millenial set.
Posted by: Jack is Back! | April 01, 2018 at 10:56 AM
And you seem reluctant to apply your withering analysis to the Times laughable "myth" immigrant graph.
You're not polishing your cool analytical bona fides by ignoring that groaner in lieu of specious gun arguments.
Posted by: Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki | April 01, 2018 at 10:56 AM
JiB, the downtrend seems fairly clearly related to evil "mass incarceration" and beefed up and altered law enforcement techniques, more than anything.
Posted by: Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki | April 01, 2018 at 10:59 AM
foobar, there is no poll about gun ownership that's worth the pixels it's displayed on, particularly when handgun ownership is included. This is because very few sensible gunowners will discuss their gun ownership with strangers.
The progs are also well-underway in the process of driving semiautomatic rifle ownership into similar shadows.
Posted by: Another Bob | April 01, 2018 at 11:06 AM
Iggy,
Not everyone in that millenial age group is part of a mass incarceration. I still think the demographic on gun buys by (lets say) white non-hispanic between 18-35 is down compared to 20 years ago on a per capita basis. If it is not then our millenials are less affected by the 24/7 evil news of guns than I am assuming.
Would love to see those stats but have no idea where to find them. Is there an FFL association who collects that data?

Criminals are not known to be legal purchasers of guns but non-criminals are known to purchase them legally. I would still like to see the stats since I think our education system may be playing a role in reversing the attraction of being legally armed for either protection or sport.
Of course, that is my opinion like the one I had about Loyola going all the way.

Happy Easter one and all,
About last night...
It seems appropriate for Easter to note that the left is all too often willing to see us as less than human, not only wrong but evil, deplorable, IRREDEEMABLE. Throughout history the first step in oppression, destroying lives, killing, is to make a group less than Human, I do get it.
With what seems at times a constant onslaught of this, it's hard to remember on our part to hate the sin not the sinner.
This whole Hogg Ingram thing, no matter how mild, and yes true, her Tweet was, does in some small way illustrate this. She was counting Coup more than fighting.
If a friends kid called me a "pathetic f***er" etc. I think he should be corrected, even ridiculed. I hope though, I would stop short of calling him pinch faced Nancy boy who will likely never reproduce.
I am likely wrong this particular instance is where a line should be drawn. I do think we need to start thinking about where to draw them.
Thanks for Humoring me. I gotta get back to work now and wont be able to respond for awhile.

Do read Clarice’s 12:27. I’m sure many of us could cite similar chats our family and friends. Praise the Lord it’s not the other way around.

Couple thought about this supposed decline in households with a firearm.
Do thugs live in "households"?
How do you do a survey and get meaningful statistical information about this?

An interesting story about the pieces selection, is an echo of prerevolutionary Russia, the known wolf problem, azev the second in command to savinkov in the srs was an okrana asset, bely (aka Alexander blok) dramatizes this in Petersburg, which was a little like if ee cumings wrote a political novel, and of course solzhenitsyn in the first volume of the red wheel wondered about stolypins assassin begaev.

I am posting this because it is Easter.
Today is Easter Sunday, when we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ. However, Christ was not just the redeemer of the world, he was a pioneer in other ways also. Tacitus, the Roman historian, tells us:
And the Gallilean's followers gathered at the tomb on the third day after his crucifixion. It was the beginning of the fourth lunar month. They were dismayed to find the sarcophagus still sealed, and when they rolled away the stone, the body lay as it had been placed after death. They began to wail and mourn, "He should have risen from the dead!" Then the Christ sat up from his slab and said, "Surprise! Fooled you!" And thus was born April Fool's jokes.
Funny how that bit never made it into the New Testament accounts of the resurrection.
