BREAKING: New Vatican statement distancing Pope Francis from Scalfari’s report that Francis said, “Hell does not exist.” They say this should not be “considered a faithful transcription of the Holy Father’s words.”

The faithful are not happy.

daddy

I didn't watch Rosanne but I hope in episode 2 she takes on Pope Che'.

Comanche Voter

Ignatz I believe that non religious conservatives still have a tragic view of life. We realize that real evil does exist in the world, and while we accept that, we need to fight against it. That also means that we have a more tolerant view of other's failings, recognizing that everyone is flawed in some way.

I do get amused when progressive Democrats (most of whom would die of shame to be seen entering the doors of a church) yammer away at what "real Christians should do or think". The old saw about "it takes one to know one" applies--and they have not a gnat's eyelash of understanding.

Porchlight

rse, I was just thinking about student assessment this morning and how teachers always want to make it qualitative only.

I understand the difficulty of measuring but still, it is telling.

henry

All i got was a cookie.

I will get these on my way home:

"henry needs a Founders Breakfast Stout. Or a Backwoods Bastard "

Captain Hate

Hogg and his idiot piglet sister obviously weren't raised well by their stage manager daddy. Still, Laura's one of the more mercenary of the radio talkers so I'm amused by all of this.

Porchlight

I hear the Founders Breakfast Stout is really good.

I am a big fan of their All-Day IPA, a session IPA. Lower alcohol, lots of flavor.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Comanche Voter,

"All have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God."

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

I don't think religious conservatives are less tolerant of men's failings, but they do recognize and point out failings, which is sometimes viewed as intolerance.

I am past the stage of thinking man can be perfected, and my concern with the failings I see around me are more to the concern of how much heartache those failings cause.

I covered formative assessment in my book, but when school districts insist on obscuring what fa is by calling it standardized testing it is really telling.

Just be aware that what is being measured is not what you would expect and be open to it bothering a perceptive child. Because it is embedded in the classroom activities the child may not be particularly aware something is being measured. I think I would simply tell them that if something going on at school is troubling you are there to talk about it.

My kids always said the only thing that put them at risk in the end was someone mad at me for what I understood. For the most part though teachers like my work and admin's do not. Ironically veteran ed profs a;so really like my work and are the most horrified by changes in practices.

Sessions catches another alleged intelligence leaker – this one’s a former FBI agent
Attorney General Jeff Sessions had said in August 2017 that the Department of Justice was drastically increasing its investigations into intelligence leaks. The DOJ charged a former FBI agent with illegally spilling national intelligence secrets to The Intercept.

From the leaking leaker link:

"We would like to add that as the only African-American FBI field agent in Minnesota, Mr. Albury’s actions were driven by a conscientious commitment to long-term national security and addressing the well-documented systemic biases within the FBI,” the statement said.

Sounds like a shorter version of the Chris Dorner Manifesto.

daddy

Jane,

looks like this latest leaker was another Reality Winner:

Albury is the second alleged leaker charged for spilling state secrets to The Intercept. In June 2017, NSA contractor Reality Winner was arrested for similar leaks to the same news outlet.

IIRC, Reality Winner thought she'd get off by playing the cute, innocent, dumb blonde card. This guy Albury's gig instead plays the Race card:

“We would like to add that as the only African-American FBI field agent in Minnesota, Mr. Albury’s actions were driven by a conscientious commitment to long-term national security and addressing the well-documented systemic biases within the FBI,” the statement said.

Jack is Back!

So, the Somali policeman who killed the white Australian woman in Minneapolis can plead systemic biases within the MPD?

BTW, whatever happened to the FBI female field agent who ratted out the 911 bombers but got crickets in reply? Was that on Mueller's watch?

WSJ claims Amazon is saving the USPS by shipping through it. If you go by marginal cost of a shipment, that is a standards microeconomic argument. Amazon covers direct shipping cost (aka marginal cost) plus some overhead so USPS is better off with the business than without.

Sorry we have such dismal weather here today!

I went out to lunch with my son and 2 granddaughters.

College granddaughter said she was taking a class in "Studies of Sexual Misconduct and Attitudes eithin News Organizations."

Younger granddaughter just looked at her with her jaw dropping and said, "Wait. They have an actual class about that?"

I had been listening very respectfully until that point, when my son and I just burst out laughing.

Also, there is a class called "Biology for Poets" so that English majors can pass a science class to fulfill requirements.

Younger granddaughter just got a job working the drive-through at McDonald's. She is also the trainer for the girls softball team. She was not happy to see the rain today, because it meant a rescheduled game and conflict with her work.

Hillary Clinton Suffers 90% Cut In Speech Fee

After embarrassing herself and creating yet another obstacle for Congressional Democrats to overcome later this year during a disastrous trip to India earlier this month, Hillary Clinton is taking a massive 90% cut to her typical speaking fee for an engagement at one of New Jersey's most prestigious universities.

And no - it's not Princeton.

Clinton made her less-than-triumphant return to the Garden State on Thursday to deliver a talk about American democracy and her role in shaping the the American woman's place in political life, according to NJ.com.

Rutgers will pay Clinton $25,000 from one of its endowments - ensuring that no tuition money will be used for the payment.

The event will be hosted by the Rutgers Eagleton Institute of Politics and will be held at Rutgers Athletic Center in Piscataway. The event is - unsurprisingly - sold out.

Clinton famously charged $300,000 for a speech at another prestigious state school - UCLA - back in 2014, with a fee of $250,000 generally accepted as the norm.
