That's twenty minutes I can't get back. I just sat through the full Michelle Wolf effort at the White House Correspondents Self-Adoration Dinner and wow! I've seen my share of late night comedy monologues so the basic theme of Evil, Stupid Republicans is not exactly a surprising comic twist. But even knowing I would be seeing a howling lefty that was criticized for being harsh and unfunny, I was not ready for this.
Here's a transcript, which does not capture the sense of horror that spread over the room. There were plenty of awkward silences but at a guess (there will be no booth review by me) the nadir was this:
Mike Pence is the kind of guy that brushes his teeth and then drinks orange juice and thinks, “Mmm.” Mike Pence is also very anti-choice. He thinks abortion is murder, which, first of all, don't knock it till you try it. And when you do try it, really knock it. You know, you got to get that baby out of there.
And, yes, sure, you can groan all you want. I know a lot of you are very antiabortion. You know, unless it's the one you got for your secret mistress. It's fun how values can waver. But good for you.
But glancing through the transcript there were plenty of contenders for "Lowest Moment". Actually, spending time with that transcript might be a mistake too. Wolf happened, she was even worse than you imagined, move on.
ERRATA: The president of the WHCA apologizes, feels the hate in Twitter. Even the failing NY Times notes that there is a bipartisan flavor to the criticism.

Narciso I don’t get your point. Flynn sold his house for the same reason millions of other people do: he was moving somewhere else, in this case back home to Rhode Island.

I am totally behind the curve here. Answering JMHanes from the thread before last.
Have you been to Japan?
Yes. I lived in Japan for two years as a Mormon missionary in the mid-1980s. Since then, I have been back a couple of times for business, but those were really oddball jobs. Haven't been back in about twenty years, though.
Do you have a cultural interest in Japan, or primarily business?
Mostly cultural. I became interested in Japanese history, literature, and culture when I lived there, and have maintained that interest. I have taken several graduate level courses in Japanese literature in the original classical Japanese at UCLA and USC.
And now the big question: Do you watch Japanese historical TV dramas?
When I can find them. My wife and I write Japanese historical fiction and fantasy, some of which is set in the Heian period. It is incredibly difficult to find anything on that period in English, so we have gone through a couple of the NHK dramas, like "Kiyomori" as well as "Yoshitsune" and used them for inspiration on the setting.
Regrettably, in my experience, the English subtitles on the Blu-Ray versions are nearly worthless.

Of course Flynn has had some legal fees. The issue is if these legal fees have "financially wrecked" Flynn to the point he had to sell his house. There is zero concrete evidence that is the case.

Now you are moving the goalposts. There have been several Ledge dwellers here who have cited on multiple occasions they could not subscribe to the 4D chess theory because Flynn has been financially wrecked. I guess the assumption is why would Flynn be a part of such a intricate scheme to destroy the Deep State if it was going to require him to make such a huge personal sacrifice. I am just pointing out there is zero concrate evidence that Flynn was financially ruined due to exorbitant legal fees. The ABC news article TK linked is Fake News according to one of Flynn's personal friends. He sold his house for the normal reason that he was moving somewhere else.
I agree with you that Flynn is innocent of the charges he pled guilty to. Unless you subscribe to the 4D chess theory that Flynn was part of an intricate sting operation, it makes zero sense that he would admit guilt in that situation knowing he did nothing legally wrong. Assuming there is no 4D chess theory, if Flynn knew he was innocent why did he turn down Trump's offer to pay for his legal fees? Mueller's case against him wouldn't have cost him a penny.
Posted by: Tom R | April 30, 2018 at 01:44 PM
Tom R, I'm not moving goalposts, because I've never used the term "financially wrecked," or anything like that. But to get to the point:
Unless you subscribe to the 4D chess theory that Flynn was part of an intricate sting operation, it makes zero sense that he would admit guilt in that situation knowing he did nothing legally wrong.
No, it doesn't make zero sense. This happens all the time because people are afraid of the power of the government to get them convicted (and/or "financially wrecked" in the process). Look what happened to Libby. So yes, Flynn may have copped a plea to avoid getting "Libbyed." And that may be why he has only been financially harmed and not wrecked.
As to why he turned down Trump's offer, who knows? Maybe he's proud. Maybe he thought it would make Trump look bad. You'll have to ask him.

When I learned LTG Flynn sold his home I figured that a man of means will restructure his assets to handle significant legal fees to dispose of them ASAP.
Were the proceeds of the sale of his home applied directly to paying the legal fees? Were the proceeds the only way to meet legal costs incurred by the setup/witch hunt? The rooster crowed and the sun came up....
The real story isn't that he sold his home. Not my business.
The real story and what is my business is this stranglehold by the LAWFARE State setting up traps where the targets are guilty of something until they can prove that they are not guilty of anything.

It's an elementary principle of human psych that one ONLY gets emotionally angry at another's weaknesses if those weaknesses are threatening in some way to oneself.
Another person's shortcomings might make you sad, contemptuous, puzzled, ... many things. But if you feel the red hot bile rising in your throat, then that shortcoming strikes directly at you. It might be a fault you have yourself, it might be a fault held by someone key to your life (parent, spouse) that you were not able to resolve/handle.
Just two cents.

These lyrics from Dead Skunk In The Middle Of The Road are appropriate for a certain female comedian and her twentyminute hate fest. Loudon Wainwright III had it right when he said the skunk---er Ms. Wolf--shoulda looked left and shoulda looked right. She looked one way--and now her reputation smells.
Crossing the highway late last night
He shoulda looked left and he shoulda looked right
He didn't see the station wagon car
The skunk got squashed and there you are
You got your dead skunk in the middle of the road
Dead skunk in the middle of the road
Dead skunk in the middle of the road
Stinking to high heaven
Take a whiff on me, that ain't no rose
Roll up your window and hold your nose
You don't have to look and you don't have to see
'Cause you can feel it in your olfactory
You got your dead skunk in the middle of the road
Dead skunk in the middle of the road
Dead skunk in the middle of the road
And it's stinking to high heaven
Yeah, you got your dead cat and you got your dead dog
On a moonlight night, you got your dead toad frog
Got your dead rabbit and your dead raccoon
The blood and the guts, they're gonna make you swoon
You got your dead skunk in the middle
Dead skunk in the middle of the road
Dead skunk in the middle of the road
Stinking to high heaven
C'mon, stink

Raping Juanita Broderick. Clown boy is okay with that. The President of the United States, sticking a cigar up a EMPLOYEE'S vagina, in the Oval Office....is ok with Clown boy. Spewing his semen all over a young interns blue dress, is okay with the Clown.

Red State is welcome to employ or NOT employ any one they choose.
To become unemployed by Red State means, Red State was not profiting from the newly unemployed persons, endeavors.

"The twitter game is what'll put them back on top."
Here are a couple of others to go along with the Spawn's delusional addition to "She Persisted."
1. Bill's heavily air-brushed head shot.
2. Hildo's upward angle pose to keep the pork fat from bulging downward.
3. Hildo's screeching jokes about "chardonnay" and losing.

clarice:
There are accusations of sexual assault, as you know, but none of out and out rape. But when people joke here about Clinton, they are talking about Monica and cigars.
The Stormy Daniels stuff is, alas, credible to whether there was a few encounters or not. It matches other reported conduct, when Trump has cheated on his wives. There are a number of other accusations from Daniels that sound over the top. It's kind of hard to miss Daniels is in this for the Benjamins, not just a few Johnsons.
